Mary Lois Knight, 60
Mary Lois Knight, 60, of Glennville, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Medical University Hospital in Charleston, SC. The Evans County native had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She retired from Georgia State Prison as a Correctional Officer in 2002 with 20 years of service. She was a loving wife, mother, homemaker, and attended Watermelon Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Revis Knight of Glennville; children, Earl Talmadge (Tal) and Lynda Kicklighter of Loveland, OH, Gina and David Cammack of Glennville, Julie and Stan Elrod of Cleveland, Donna Nobles of Glennville, Michelle Stubbs of Statesboro, and Douglas Stubbs and Viniece Stubbs, both of Glennville; brothers, Henry Harper of California and Bill Harper of Daisy; sisters, June Hendrix of North Carolina and Carol Lindsay of Reidsville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 12, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Van Power officiating. Burial followed in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy Teague, Johnny Lindsay, Jimmy Harper, Donald Lindsay, Charles Anderson, and John Petrosky.
Honorary pallbearers were employees of Georgia State Prison.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. George Robert “G.R.” Lee, 78
Mr. George Robert “G.R.” Lee, 78, of Metter, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at his farm in Bulloch County. Before retiring, he was employed by Claxton Poultry Co. for many years, was an avid garden farmer and did landscape maintenance. He was a member of the Metter Primitive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean Deal Lee.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Pam Lee of Metter; daughter, Marsha Cannady of Rincon; sister, Anne Phillips of Sunnyvale, CA; and four grandchildren, Meghan Lee, Nicholas Lee, Laura Lee, and Tiffany Cannady.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 10, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Rev. John Sheldon Mikell officiating. Burial followed in the Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wayne Wright, Randy Wright, Randy Deal, J.P. Mongin, Lamar Mongin, and Leo Hotchkiss.

Cecil Long, 62
Cecil Long, 62, died Friday, April 11, 2003, in Glennville. The Long County native had lived in Glennville and Long County most of his life. He was a self-employed Barber for the past 40 years in Glennville. He was well known for his musical ability, singing and playing guitar in Gospel and Country groups. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin C. Long and Mersadis Long Shaw, and a brother, Hoyt D. Long.
He is survived by his wife, Willene Long of Glennville; children, Kay and John Curcio of Gainesville, FL, Keith and Tracy Long of Vidalia, Kathy Griggs of Glennville, and Billy, Jimmy and Harry Middleton, all of Hinesville; sister and brother-in-law, Jodonne and Royce Folsom of Glennville; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Fredia Long of Perry; three grandchildren, Bailey Griggs, Casidy Long, and Carrington Long; five step-grandchildren, John Curcio, Crystal Curcio, Kevin Middleton, Tanner Middleton, and Jimmy C. Middleton, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 13, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at Pigott Branch Church with Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., and Rev. Jerry Knight officiating. Burial followed in Grace Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eric Moody, David Baxter, Jason Long, Brian Nall, Nathan Long, and Glenn Purcell.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Jane Mullins, 53
Mrs. Jane Mullins, 53, of Reidsville, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at her residence. She was reared in Northern Virginia and moved to Reidsville twelve years ago. She was a member of the Tattnall County Library Board and was the City of Reidsville’s Election Superintendent.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Mullins of Reidsville; son, Jimmy Mullins, Jr., of Reidsville; two daughters, Lori K. Ennis and Heather J. Mullins both of Jacksonville, NC; two grandchildren, Kayla and Jacob; two brothers, Robert J. Gosnell of Texas and Dewitt Gosnell of Florida; and three sisters, Ramona G. Edwards of NC, Gwendolyn Fowler of Grovania, GA, and Tonja C. Johnson of Norcross, GA.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held in Manassas, Virginia, at a later date.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Oraline Odum, 95
Oraline Odum, 95, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Tattnall County and a member of New Anderson Primitive Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Rufus T. and Della Callaway Odum. She was predeceased by her siblings, Watson, Archie, Ben, Roger, Rose, Bessie and Bertle Odum.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Clower. Burial was in Anderson Church Cemetery.

Georgia Holland Rogers, 93
Georgia Holland Rogers, 93, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at the Claxton Nursing Home. A lifelong resident of Tattnall County, she was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. She attended Georgia Normal College, now Georgia Southern University. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Herbert Rogers.
She is survived by four sisters-in-law, Hazel Rogers and Marjorie Rogers both of Claxton, and Henrietta Thrift and Laura Collins both of Metter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roebuck Burch officiating. Burial was in the Anderson Cemetery.

George W. Benefield, 74
George W. Benefield, 74, died Monday, April 21, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Coffee County native had lived in Glennville for the past eight years. He was a former heavy equipment operator and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, June Benefield of Glennville; daughter, Susan Lannander of Glennville; sons and spouses, Murray and Donna Benefield of Glennville, Chuck and Marie Hubler of Interlachen, FL, and Carl Hubler of Sevierville, TN; sisters and spouse, Melba Sawyer of Dillsboro, NC, Barbara Moore of High Point, NC, and Hazel and Gene Smith of Smiths, AL; brothers and spouses, Lyman and Roberta Benefield of Lithia, FL, Freeman and Joyce Benefield of Port Orange, FL, J.C. Benefield of Gainesville, FL, John and Sybil Benefield of High Springs, FL, Thomas and Juanita Benefield of Orlanda, FL, and Roy Benefield of Orlando, FL; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, April 24, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Knight and Rev. Lyman Benefield officiating. Burial will follow in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell Benefield, Danny Lynn, Timothy Benefield, Timothy DeLoach, Jonathan Benefield, and Ronnie Anderson.
Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Cletise Collins Broome, 89
Cletise Collins Broome, 89, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003. Born in Cobbtown, she was a daughter of the late James Rance and Maggie Kicklighter Collins. She was a resident of Columbia for most of her life. In declining health, she moved to Houston, TX, to be with her daughter. She was an avid gardener having shown her prize flowers in the State Fair. Her greatest passion was serving others. She was a member of College Place United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Broome and granddaughter, Michelle Broome.
She is survived by a son, Lynwood D. Broome of Columbia; daughters, Delores B. Kizer of Houston, TX, and Ginny B. Robinson of Rembert; grandchildren, Deia Patsel, Kimberly Broome, Kelli Davidson, Daryl Kizer, and Van Robinson; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 19, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Wiley B. Cooper officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Church Cemetery, Blythewood.
Pallbearers were Jerry Shepp, Guerry Frick, John Broome, Gene Broome, Talmadge Frick, Jr., and William Avery Frick.
Memorials may be made to Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Millwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Billy Kendle Kitchens, 78
Billy Kendle Kitchens, 78, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at his residence in Ludowici under the care of Hospice. The Florida native had lived in Ludowici for the past 20 years. He was a retired Heavy Equipment Mechanic and a World War II, Korean and Vietnam Veteran.
He is survived by a brother, Walter Kitchens of Dublin and several special friends.
A Memorial Service was held Friday, April 18, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. at his residence in Ludowici. Burial was private.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Evie Clyde Hadden Martin, 84
Evie Clyde Hadden Martin, 84, of Collins died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Candler County native lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a seamstress at a clothing factory. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelton James Martin and daughters, Jewell and Mamie Martin.
She is survived by sons, L.J. Martin of Lyons, Dennis Martin of Collins, and Tommy Martin of Cobbtown; daughters and son-in-law, M. Ann and Jerry Richardson of Peru, IN, and Bobbie Todd of Claxton; brothers, Lester and Cleo Hadden both of Ludowici; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 24, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Collins Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Gene McCord will officiate.

Fannie Kate Baxter Patterson, 95
Fannie Kate Baxter Patterson, 95, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native was the oldest member of Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was a member of the Golden Age Club, the Over 60 Club and the Keenagers. She had been a resident of Sutton Place for the past year and a half. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.I. (Shorty) Patterson and son, Gene Patterson.
She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Novadean and William Dreggors of Glennville and Marie P. Johnson of Groesbeck, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Pat R. and Lilla D. Patterson of Glennville; ten grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Elder Scott Williams and Licentiate J. Glenn Patterson officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Dutton, Trey Dutton, Tyson Dutton, Chip Heath, Jonathan Jones, and Steve Peterson.
Remembrances may be made to Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
