Albert Carr, 69, UH professor
Albert B. Carr, a University of Hawaii professor of science education and author, died March 30 in Honolulu. He was 69.
Carr was born in New York and taught in the UH College of Education. He developed many science programs for students, including a Student Science Seminar that allowed Oahu’s brightest children to meet weekly with top scientists.
Carr was the senior author in residence for the Encyclopedia Britannica and served as the coordinator of Science Curriculum Improvement Study at the University Laboratory School.
His books included “Islands of the Deep Sea,” The Black Box,” “The I Wonder Why Readers: Soft As a Bunny, Look and See,” and “Black Is a Word.”
Carr is survived by his wife, Norma; daughters, Lorrie Ohashi and Dr. Linda Carr; sons, Kevin and David; two grandchildren; brother, Bruce. Memorial arrangements are pending. Donations may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation.
