Reverend Warren B. Jolls

Rev. Jolls was born on June 26, 1915 in Grand Ledge, MI to Earl and Mable (Bennett) Jolls. His childhood was spent in Grand Ledge and then his family moved to Cross Village near Harbor Springs where they continued farming. Warren attended Moody Bible Institute while supporting his parents and graduated in 1944. He was commissioned and ordained by Skeels Baptist Church of Gladwin, MI.
He joined Hiawatha Land Independent Baptist Missions to reach souls where others would not go as a pioneer missionary church planter and received his first church assignment at Van Meer, MI in November of 1944. A month later on December 27 1944 he married Laura Isabelle Bruett in Chicago and brought her to the parsonage at Van Meer where he perfomed his first wedding on that day of his arrival back home. He conducted Bible studies in Shingleton and Ty Mill and after the morning services in Van Meer he would walk six miles to Ty Mill and hold a church service and then walk back again to do the evening service in Van Meer.
After four years he moved to Perkins. Ml to start a new church. While there, he conducted many Bibles studies west of Rock and he was crucial in the opening of the Limestone Baptist Church, moving the former Swedish Lutheran Church huilding to a new site and starting a Baptist Church. For twelve years, he pastored at Perkins and filled the pulpit at Limestone whenever the pulpit was vacant. In 1961, he and Laura moved to Limestone full time and built a home on Atherton Road near Kiva Rev. Jolls as known for his hospital visitation and his door-to-door evangelism. His greatest desire was to see people have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. For thirty-four years, he pastored Limestone Baptist Church, overseeing a new building project after the old church burned down in 1969, soon after a new auditorium had heen built. One time, thirty of the sixty members of the congregation moved away from Limestone in six months in their search for employment. Often having the only car in the neighhorhood, Rev. Jolls sometimes had two pick-up routes hefore church. He would often give people rides into town and was known for witnessing to hitchhikers.
In 1994, Hiawatha Baptist Missions, now called Continental Baptist Missions, declared Warren and Laura, missionaries emeritus after fifty years of faithfull service across the Upper Peninsula. He retired at age seventy-nine, although declaring pastors never truly retire. Rev. Jolls continued calling and witnessing and remained an active church member until last fall when he had a massive heart attack.
Rev. Jolls was predeceased by his father and mother, Earl and Mable Jolls, his brother Earl Jolls of Willmington, NC; five brothers, William, Harry and David Prisk all of Champion, Robert Prisk of Ishpeming and Harold Prisk of Lower Michigan; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
