Mary J. Jenkins

TINA, Mo. -- Mary Jane (Austin) Jenkins, 65, Tina, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at a Chillicothe, Mo., health-care center.
Mrs. Jenkins was a secretary for Tina Oil and Gas for many years.
Born in Bogard, Mo., on March 31, 1933, she graduated from the Bosworth, Mo., high school. She had lived most of her life in Bogard and Tina.
Mrs. Jenkins was a member of the United Church of Tina, where she was pianist; and Carroll County (Mo.) Historical Society. She also played and sang for weddings and funerals in the area.
On Aug. 31, 1952, she married Mike Jenkins in Carrollton, Mo. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Helen Austin; and two brothers.
Additional survivors: two sons, Steve and Jerry, both of Tina; a daughter, Janie Klingenberg, Chillicothe; a sister, Judy Prete, Kansas City; and eight grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, United Church, Tina. Burial: Rock Branch Cemetery, Tina. Pauline Johnson

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Pauline (Clark) Johnson, 81, Joplin, formerly of Barnard, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at a hospital in Joplin of cancer.
Born in Barnard on April 5, 1917, Mrs. Johnson, a homemaker, graduated from the Graham, Mo., high school and was a member of the Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her parents, Boone and Ida Clark; two sisters, Myrta M. Clark and Cleo Stroble; and three brothers, Ira, Marvin and Virgil Clark.
Surviving: a son, John, Joplin; and two sisters, Verline Wright, St. Joseph, and Ruth Lamb, Santa Rosa, Calif.

Irene A. Kimes
1901-1999
DAWSON, Neb. -- Irene A. (Mashaw) Kimes, 97, Dawson, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at the Auburn, Neb., hospital.
Born in Theresa, N.Y., on Aug. 27, 1901, Mrs. Kimes moved to Schuyler, Neb., and then Table Rock, Neb., where she lived with the Charley Kalina family.
On Feb. 14, 1919, she married John A. Kimes in Table Rock. They made their home in Table Rock and later moved to Humboldt, Neb., and the Dawson area in 1927. The couple moved into Dawson in 1942. He died in 1961.
Mrs. Kimes was a member of the Methodist Church in Lincoln, Neb.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Harlan D.; two daughters, Phyllis Prine and Norma I. Kimes; her parents, James and Mildred A. Mashaw; and two sisters, two brothers and a great-great-grandchild.
Surviving: two sons, Gordon, Dawson, and John, Beatrice, Neb.; three daughters, Betty Larson, Verdon, Neb., Maxine Bell, Long Beach, Calif., and Dorothy Forbis, Auberry, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

John E. Logan
1913-1999
John E. Logan, 85, St. Joseph, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Logan retired from the Railway Mail Service after 25 years. During World War II, he served in the Army.
Born in Arkoe, Mo., on March 7, 1913, he was a member of the Pony Express American Legion Post No. 359 and was a Christian. He was formerly active in the Masons.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth; two stepdaughters, Pat Jetton and Joann Hayes; his parents, Martin A. and Lula M.; and two brothers, Harry L. and Charles A.
Surviving: his wife, Barbara C. of the home; a stepdaughter, B.J. Chimenti, Hinsdale, Ill.; a sister, Viola Weddle, Pekin, Ill.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, with military rites by members of the Pony Express American Legion Post No. 359, St. Joseph. Family visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at the Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph.
Lula E. Mason
1914-1999
Lula E. (Whitehead) Mason, 84, St. Joseph, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Mason was employed as a sales clerk and bookkeeper at the former Block's retail store in St. Joseph from 1969 until 1990.
Born in Mexico, Mo., on July 4, 1914, she had been a resident of St. Joseph since 1932. She was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burl Mason, in 1982; her parents, Luther and Ada Whitehead; and a brother Ottis Whitehead.
Surviving: a daughter, Sheryl Kane, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; a sister, Ida M. Williams, Mexico, Mo.; and a grandchild.

William R. Park
1931-1999
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- William Richard Park, 67, Columbia, formerly of Lathrop, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at a hospital in Columbia.
Mr. Park had been a farmer in the Lathrop area for 40 years. He received the 1972 Clinton County (Mo.) Outstanding Achievement Award, 1978 State Achievement Award, 1974 State Commercial Pork Producers Award and 1973 Missouri Farm Family Award.
Born in Gashland, Mo., on Sept. 18, 1931, he graduated from the North Kansas City, Mo., high school and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Columbia.
Mr. Park served in the Air Force for three years in Bermuda as a radio operator. He was an Eagle Scout.
On Dec. 16, 1951, he married Shirley Turpen in North Kansas City. She survives of the home.
Mr. Park was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon H. and Aletha; and a sister.

Elizabeth Reed

Elizabeth (McDonald) Reed, 98, St. Joseph, formerly of Oregon, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at a health-care center in St. Joseph.
Mrs. Reed had been employed in the sewing section of the former Townsend and Wall department store in St. Joseph. She also had worked in the family shoe repair business and dry-cleaning business, both in Oregon.
Born in Holt County, Mo., near Oregon on July 24, 1900, she lived most of her life in the Oregon area. She graduated from the Culp rural school near Oregon and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Forest City, Mo.
On June 15, 1920, she married Charles E. Reed. He died in 1956.
Mrs. Reed also was preceded in death by a son, Charles W.; her parents, Amos and Caroline McDonald; a brother, Carl E. McDonald; and three sisters, Amy L. Branham and two infants.
Surviving: four nieces, Harriet Foutch, Wilma Reed, Katherine Knapp and Mary Pollock, all of St. Joseph.
Service: 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon. Burial: Maple Grove Cemetery, Oregon. Visitation: after 3 p.m. today, at the funeral home. There is no scheduled family visitation.
Mildred Scott
1914-1999
BEDFORD, Iowa -- Mildred (Frazier) Scott, 84, Bedford, formerly of Weston, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Born in Weston on Dec. 21, 1914, Mrs. Scott, a farm wife, supplied the Owens-Cross Hatchery with eggs for hatching.
She graduated from the Gallatin, Mo., high school and attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Mo. She was a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church in Daviess County, Mo.
On Dec. 9, 1939, she married Herschel Scott in Sheridan, Mo. They lived all their married lives southeast of Bedford and farmed. He died in 1979. Later she moved into Bedford.
Mrs. Scott also was preceded in death by her parents, John and Harriett Frazier.
Surviving: two daughters, Jo Ann Nelson, Clearfield, Iowa, and Deloris Spire, Bedford; a grandchild; and five stepgrandchildren.
The funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 18, at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery at Bedford.
Lera Tally
1909-1999
SKIDMORE, Mo. -- Lera (Snively) Tally, 89, Skidmore, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Tally, a homemaker, had farmed northeast of Braddyville, Iowa, for six years before moving to Skidmore in 1944.
Born in Braddyville on Dec. 25, 1909, she graduated from the Braddyville high school and was a member of the Skidmore Christian Church.
On Jan. 6, 1936, she married Melvin L. Tally in Maryville, Mo. He died in 1983.
Mrs. Tally also was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Jane E. Snively; a sister, Ruth Sterling; a brother, Virgil Snively; and two grandchildren.
Surviving: two sons, Merle and Lewis, both of Skidmore; four daughters, Barbara Osburn, Columbia, Mo., Melva McIntosh, Graham, Mo., Betty Stephens, Kirksville, Mo., and Deborah Derr, Burlington Junction, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

John R. Boyd
1902-1999
John Robert Boyd, 96, St. Joseph, formerly of Fortescue, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at a hospice in St. Joseph.
Mr. Boyd was engaged in farming. During World War II, he worked as a pipe fitter foreman in a shipyard in Vancouver, Wash. Later he worked as a custodian and bus driver for the Fortescue and Craig, Mo., schools for several years. And he was a trapper for the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge.
Born in Fortescue on April 16, 1902, he attended school there. He lived in Holt County, Mo., all of his life until moving to St. Joseph in 1987.
He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mound City, Mo.
On Feb. 16, 1922, he married Gracie B. Chuning in Oregon, Mo. She died in 1992.
Mr. Boyd also was preceded in death by three sons, John, William and James; his parents, Robert and Martha; six brothers, Walter, Henry, Earl, Isaac, Lafayette and an infant; three sisters, Katherine Rutherford, May Smith and an infant; and two great-grandchildren.
Surviving: a daughter, Mildred Myers, St. Joseph; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Velma C. Clevenger

CAMERON, Mo. -- Velma C. (Foster) Clevenger, 83, Cameron, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at the Cameron hospital.
Mrs. Clevenger was a filing clerk for the Cameron Mutual Insurance Co. for 10 years until retiring in 1978.
Born in Milan, Mo., on Aug. 25, 1915, she lived most of her life in Cameron.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, auxiliary to the Elmer Ellis American Legion Post No. 33, and 8 and 40 Club, all of Cameron; and Good Sams Camping Club.
On Oct. 9, 1982, she married Vincil Clevenger in Cameron. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Clevenger was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Goad, in 1964; her parents, Alfred and Mabel Foster; and two brothers and four sisters.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Pat McQuinn, Cameron; a twin sister, Thelma Hauger, Milan, Ill.; eight stepchildren; four grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild.

Melanie Duncan

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Melanie (Ferguson) Duncan, 39, Overland Park, formerly of Trenton, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Born in Trenton on March 30, 1959, Mrs. Duncan lived all of her married life in the Overland Park area.
She was a member of the Salem Baptist Church in Grundy County, Mo.
On Aug. 2, 1981, she married Randall Duncan in Trenton. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Duncan was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert U. and Elaine Ferguson.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Sara Duncan of the home; a sister, Michelle Saunders, Chillicothe, Mo.; two brothers, Steve and Mark Ferguson, both of Trenton; and her maternal grandmother, Velva Steele, Trenton.

D. Lucille Gullion

CAMERON, Mo. -- Doris Lucille (McConaha) Sutton Gullion, 83, Cameron, formerly of Weatherby and Pattonsburg, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at the Cameron hospital.
Mrs. Gullion was a machine operator for the Lambert Manufacturing Co. in Pattonsburg and Maysville, Mo., from 1951 until her retirement in 1976.
Born on Dec. 28, 1915, in Charleston, Ill., she was reared in the Alta Vista/Weatherby, Mo., vicinity; and was graduate of the Alta Vista High School.
Mrs. Gullion was a member of the United Methodist Church and Crabill Extension Club, both of Weatherby.
On March 8, 1937, she married J. Musser Sutton, at Alta Vista. They farmed near Weatherby and raised their family there. He died in 1964. In 1977, she married Don Gullion, and they later divorced.
Mrs. Gullion also was preceded in death by her parents, F.P. and Faye McConaha; four brothers; three sisters; and two grandchildren.
Surviving: three daughters, Frances Lee, Hamilton, Mo., Elsie Sweiger, Pattonsburg, and Doris Walker, Cameron; two sons, Eugene, Cameron, and James, Stanberry, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and seven great great-grandchildren.
