Carol Ann Rogers
Aug. 10, 1937-March 17, 2007
Carol Ann Rogers, daughter of the late Ed and Margaret (Rice) Morgan, was born on Aug. 10, 1937, in Enid, Okla. She departed this life on Saturday, March 17, 2007, at her home in the Splitlog community of McDonald County, Mo., at the age of 69, after a long illness.
Carol was raised in Anderson, Mo., and was a graduate of Anderson High School. On Aug. 25, 1954, in Bentonville, Ark., she was united in marriage to Jimmie Rogers and to this union one son and three daughters were born. Carol worked at the hospital in Neosho, Mo., for more than 20 years as an aide and then later as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She loved being a caregiver and frequently sent cards to the special people in her life. Carol could often be found tending to her garden and planting beautiful flowers. She found great joy in the activities with her church and volunteering to serve wherever she was needed. She was a longtime active member of the Banner Church of the Nazarene where she served as a board member and Sunday school teacher. On Feb., 18, 2007, she received the Distinguished Service Award presented to her by her loving church family for her faithful service to her Lord and Savior. Carol sustained a close walk with Jesus throughout her life and prayed daily that all would know of His saving grace. Carol’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends until the day of that glorious reunion on Heavens bright shore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Linda Koonswiler; a brother, Jeff Morgan; and two grandsons, Miles Thomas and Jacob Rogers.
Carol is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jimmie Rogers of the home; a son, Earl Rogers and fiancée, Hope Lynch, of Bella Vista, Ark.; three daughters, Tama Mueller of Anderson, Mo., Cheryl Thomas of Bella Vista, Ark., and Traci Owens of Rogers, Ark.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Carley Tagliaferri and husband, Al, of Rohnert Park, California; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Carol Ann Rogers were 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2007, in the Anderson chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Dennis Bergen officiating. Burial followed in the Banner Cemetery. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers were Neal Smith, Richard Brick, Ronnie Rogers, John Rogers, Rick Hall and Larry Lankford. The family received friends on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to the Banner Church of the Nazarene Building Fund and contributions may be left at the funeral home. Jamie Susan Nyander
Aug. 17, 1955-Feb. 27, 2007
Jamie Susan Nyander, 51, of Springfield, Mo., was born on Aug. 17, 1955, to the late Clifford and Margaret (Earl) Randolph, in Bridgeport, Conn., and passed away in her home on Feb. 27, 2007, after a long illness.
Jamie was a psychiatric nurse for the United States Army and proudly served her country from 1973 to 1976. She became a commissioned officer and was discharged in 1986 as a 2nd Lt.
On May 25, 1985, she was united in marriage to Hal Nyander and to this union one son was born. In 1987, Jamie left the nursing profession to raise their son. She spent 16 years in Germany with her family and relocated to Springfield, Mo., in 2005.
Her passion was for animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed playing the piano, running and was active with Meals on Wheels. Jamie was a loving and caring person who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her loving husband of the home, Hal; one son, Greg Nyander of Springfield; and two sisters, Peggy Kirby of Colorado and Kathi Valentino and husband, John, of Calif.; three nieces, Kay Foechterle of Vienna, Va., Marilyn Carnell-Williams of Pineville, Mo., Zella Collie of Neosho, Mo.; one nephew, Dr. Bill M. Carnell of Springfield, Mo.; as well as a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors who will deeply miss Pauline and her wonderful stories.
A celebration of Pauline’s life will be held on Friday, March 23, 2007, (her 102nd birthday) at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Jane, Mo. The Rev. Hank Gorman will officiate. Burial will follow the service at the Jane Cemetery in Jane, Mo. David O’Brien, Gerald Elkins, Ken McKim, Gene Hall, Willie Griffith and David Foechterle will honor Pauline’s life by serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Noman Nichols, Bobby Anglin, Tommie Yeargain, Ricky Shain, Ben Alexander, Rick Sockett, Carol Price, Moila Bilby, Reba Yocum and Marcella Marrs.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 22, 2007, from 2 until 8 p.m. at the Walker-Dowd Funeral Home Chapel in Anderson, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions in loving memory of Pauline can be made to the Benton County Historical Society, White Rock Fire Department or the Shelt Noel Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
In lieu of food for the family, please donate to the Lanagan Senior Citizen’s Center in Lanagan, Mo., in memory of Pauline.

John Alfred Smith
June 13, 1936-March 15, 2007
Mr. John Alfred Smith, 70, of Anderson, Mo., departed this life on Thursday morning, March 15, 2007, at the Freeman Hospital in Neosho, Mo., after a short illness.
John was born on June 13, 1936, in New Castle, Wyo., son of Silas Joseph and Flora Nancy (Vinzant) Smith. As a child he moved to Southwest City, Mo., attending Saratoga School. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army. On Aug. 3, 1984, in Goodman, Mo., he was united in marriage to Colleen Holloway and together they shared the last 22 years. In 1998 he retired from Simmons Foods after 19 years of service as a grain buyer. In his earlier years, John and his brother, Jim were involved in the sport of car racing. John loved the outdoors, he enjoyed days of fishing and caring for his beloved farm. He especially enjoyed watching the birds that fed just outside his windows. John also competed in coyote hunting, where his dogs won many trophies. John led an adventurous life that was full of precious memories. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Silas Smith; and two brothers, Jack and Jim Smith.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Colleen Smith of the home; a daughter, Julie Dixon and husband, Mark, of Siloam Springs, Ark.; three sons, Gary Smith of Southwest City, Mo., Larry Smith and wife, Kelli, of Gentry, Ark., and Mike Smith and wife, Debbie, of Southwest City, Mo; two step-daughters, Ellen Douglas and husband, Mark, of Anderson, Mo., and Becky Gibbs and husband, Zeke, of Jane, Mo.; a step-son, David Holloway and wife, Julie, of Anderson, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his mother, Flora Smith of Joplin, Mo.; two brothers, Silas Smith and wife, Isabelle, of West Plains, Mo., and Henry Smith and wife, Joyce, of Grove, Okla.; two sisters, Rhoda Macarthur of Joplin, Mo., and Flora Phillips and husband, Bob, of Joplin, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Visitation services for Mr. John A. Smith were Sunday afternoon, March 18, from 2 until 4 p.m. in the Anderson chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
Frances A. Bush
Aug. 26, 1909-March 10, 2007
Frances A. Bush, 97, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2007, under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Frances was born in Carthage, Mo., on Aug. 26, 1909, the only child of Elmer and Anna Trowbridge. She attended Pittsburg (Kan.) Teachers College and worked as an elementary school teacher until her marriage in 1932 to Dr. Sterl S. Bush. After her marriage, she moved to Anderson, Mo., and began her career as a country doctor’s wife. She worked side by side with her husband in his medical practice for 43 years until his death. She was a member of Anderson United Methodist Church, the PEO Sisterhood and was an avid bridge player. After her husband’s passing in 1977, she resided in Muncie, Ind., and Savannah, Ga., near her daughter and son-in-law.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Bertha Bush of Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mount Vernon, Mo., following a short illness.
Norma began her journey in Greeley, Thompson on Feb. 5, 1955, in Pineville, Mo., and to this union two daughters were born. After moving to Thompson on March 20, 2002; one brother, Harvey Whitehill; two sisters, Margie Herring and Levetta Allison; identical twin great-granddaughters, Wendy Faith and Virginia Grace.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Keys and Brenda Pierce, both of Lanagan, Mo.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Slaven and husband, Jason, of Lanagan, Mo., and Marell Howerton and husband, John, of Lanagan, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Jack Thompson of Colorado; nine great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, many friends and neighbors who will dearly miss Norma and her kind ways.
Funeral services for Norma Lee Calif., and Jerry; and six sisters, Mabel Johnson, Lena Harnar, Agnes Harnar, Duley Harnar, Mildred Abercrombie and Hazel Brown.
George is survived by a son, Ben Gregory of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Ann Reynolds and husband, Ralph, of Derby, Kan., and Pat Curtis of Joplin, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Leona Latty of Lanagan, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for George Henry Harnar are 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2007, in the Noel chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Richard Rogers officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Lanagan Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
