David Christensen
David L. Christensen, 51, of Grand Island died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the All Faiths Chapel at the Nebraska Veterans in Grand Island, with the Rev. George Wheat officiating. Burial will be in the Burkett Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home and one hour before services on Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Christensen was born Sept. 5, 1946, to Jim and Bessie (Darrough) Christensen in North Platte. He was raised and received his education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1965.
He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 11, 1966, serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 15, 1968.
Following his military service, Mr. Christensen returned to Grand Island, where he was employed at Skagway until 1971. He then worked for Rainbow Bakery for 16 years. He worked at various jobs until his retirement in 1993 because of ill health.
He is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the American Legion Club. He enjoyed fishing, painting, crossword puzzles, bingo and baseball.
Survivors include his mother, Bessie Christensen of Grand Island; four daughters, Tara Christensen, Cynthia Christensen, Jamie Christensen and Suzanne Christensen, all of Grand Island; a son, Jerry of Grand Island; two grandchildren; and a brother, James Christensen Jr. of Grand Island.
Vada Mohr
Vada G. Mohr, 98, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Frank Sanchez Sr.
Frank T. Sanchez Sr., 76, 1123 E. Eighth, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Sanchez was born on Jan. 29, 1921, in Grand Island to Pedro and Juanita (Torres) Sanchez. He attended school in Grand Island. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married
Consuelo Vasquez on Nov. 18, 1947, in Grand Island. Mr. Sanchez worked on a section crew for the Union Pacific Railroad. He then worked for the Sims Construction Company, and later as a supervisor for the Haile Construction Company. He retired in 1984.
After his retirement, he worked part-time at Stuhr Museum. He was an avid baseball fan and also enjoyed being at home. Mr. Sanchez was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and the Latin Club.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Jr. and Ruben, both of Grand Island; five daughters, Theresa (Mrs. Abelardo) Esquitin of Grand Island, Gloria (Mrs. Kennie) Romer of Corning, Iowa, Linda (Mrs. Gary) Kelly of Princeton, Texas, Veronica (Mrs. William) Burks of Grand Island and Lori (Mrs. Robert) Livingston of Grand Island; 19 grandchildren; 16-great grandchildren; two brothers, Isaias (Chino) Sanchez and Pete Sanchez, both of Grand Island; three sisters, Mary Ramirez of Cheyenne, WY., Emily Valdes of Grand Island and Patty Galvan of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Consuelo in 1993; a daughter, Rita Sanchez; two grandsons, Frank Richard Sanchez III and Lared Lee Majerus; and one granddaughter, Landsay Ann Majerus.
Carroll Hill
BROKEN BOW -- Carroll William Hill, 88, of Broken Bow died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Doug Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Broken Bow Elks local scholarship fund. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hill was born on April 5, 1909, to James R. and Susie M. (Shepherdson) Hill in Nehawka. The family lived on a farm when he was younger. He was baptized into the Otterbein Church, north of Nehawka. He attended school at New Hope School near Murray. In 1928, he moved with his family to Oconto where he worked on a farm.
He married
Madge M. Heitz on Sept. 2, 1930, in Norton, Kan. He worked on farms raising cattle, hogs, breaking and training horses and drilling wells.
In 1950, due to Mrs. Hill's failing health, they left the farm and moved to Broken Bow. He worked as a plumber for Joe Weitzel and for Bates Incorporated Parts Department for 20 years. He later worked for Meston Motor's Parts Department for a short time.
Mrs. Hill died on July 1, 1967.
He married
Evelyn (Clark) Karnes of Berwyn on Jan. 13, 1968. They lived on a farm in Berwyn. In 1969, they sold their farm and moved to North Platte. They later moved to Kearney. Due to his wife's poor health, they returned to Broken Bow and lived in Independence Hall. She died on Dec. 29, 1984. He lived by himself until Dec. 12, 1990, when he entered Heritage Hall.
He was a member of the Broken Bow United Methodist Church and the Broken Bow Elks Lodge No. 1688 since 1955.
Survivors include two sons, Donald of Broken Bow and Duane of Lexington; one daughter, Donna Jean (Mrs. Duane) Beck of Oconto; one sister, Gladys Hurley of El Monte, Calif.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both wives, one grandson and six siblings.
Goldie Rodocker
BROKEN BOW -- Goldie Rodocker, 86, of Broken Bow, formerly of Halsey, died Friday, Jan. 23, at the Kearney Good Samaritan Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Purdum Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers.
Memorials may be given to the Halsey United Church of Christ or the American Heart Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Norma Kemp of Broken Bow; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Tresa Brumbaugh of California, and Matilda Jochum of Denver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; a son, Lyle; four brothers and one sister.
Leona Wiese
WOOD RIVER -- Leona V. Wiese, 83, of Wood River died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at the Wood River Good Samaritan Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Wood River with the Rev. Steven Heinsen officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the Wood River Good Samaritan Center.

Mrs. Wiese was born on May 19, 1914, in Grand Island to Charles and Adaila (Harders) Kloppenburg. She grew up and was educated in Grand Island.
She married
Rudy Wiese on Sept. 5, 1934, at Kearney. The couple lived on the family farm in Wood River all of their married
life. Mr. Wiese died April 25, 1988.
Mrs. Wiese continued to live on the farm until her health forced her to move into the Wood River Good Samaritan Center in August 1995.
Survivors include one son, Gary of Wood River; one daughter, Sharon Gloe of Wood River; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter at birth; two sisters and one brother.
'Eva' Huls
HAWARDEN, Iowa -- Reke "Eva" A. Huls, 98, of Hawarden, Iowa, and formerly of Akron, Iowa, died on Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at the Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. William Flemr officiating. Burial will be in the Brule Creek Lutheran Church cemetery at Spink, S.D.
Mrs. Huls was born Jan. 6, 1900, in rural Alcester, S.D., to William and Augusta (Bullmann) Hemmelrick. She attended school in Alcester.
She married
Esterd "Ed" Huls. Mr. Huls died in 1971. Mrs. Huls enjoyed crafts, sewing, gardening and flowers.
Survivors include three sons, Conrad of Hawarden, Iowa, Floyd of LeMars, Iowa, and Al of Akron, Iowa; a daughter, Lorraine Onnen of Grand Island; a sister, Anna Bjork of Temple City, CA.; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three children, DeWayne, Delores and Raymond; a great-grandson, Todd; nine sisters and three brothers.
