Collette Carney Skeehan
EAST AMWELL TWP. - Colette Carney Skeehan, 54, died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Hunterdon Medical Center.
She was born in Penndel, Pa. where she lived until 1960, when her family moved to Langhorne. Pa. She then lived in Washington Crossing, Pa. for 26 years before moving to Ringoes three years ago.
She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Stockton.
Mrs. Skeehan graduated from Saint Andrews Elementary School in Newtown Pa., from Villa Victoria Academy in Trenton and from College of the Holy Names in Oakland Ca.
She worked as a research assistant for the University of New Hampshire and taught GED courses at Pease Air Force Base prior to joining her parents' constructions company, Thomas P. Carney Inc. in 1972 where she worked as office manager.
In 1982 she and her husband John Skeehan, founded and operated Rampart Construction Co. In recent years, their company performed school construction in Hillsborough, Metuchen and Skillman.
Mrs. Skeehan also managed a show horse training and breeding facility at the family's Back Brook Farms in East Amwell. Though a western equestrian in her youth, her barn focused primarily on show jumpers, and her horses competed successfully on the show circuit. She was a member of USA Equestrian, formerly the American Horse Show Association and the Amwell Valley Trail Association.
A brother, Thomas P. Carney, Jr. and a daughter, Monica Skeehan died previously.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents, Thomas P. and Teresa Plewes Carney of Langhorne; a daughter, Danielle Skeehan, a student at Boston University; a son, Sean Skeehan, a student at Manhattan College; five brothers John, Robert, Joseph, Michael and William Carney and a sister Anne Marie Carney Bruno.
A funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lambertville. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery in Ringoes, after which there will be a reception of celebration for her family and friends at the family residence, 73 Back Brook Rd.
Calling hours will be today from 6 to 10 p.m. also at the family home.
Arrangements are by the Garefino Funeral Home in Lambertville.

Jordan Ewing
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Jordan B. Ewing died Friday, April 4, 2003 at St. John's Hospice in Springfield. He was 75.
He was born in Flemington, a son of Judiah and Alice Barcroft Ewing.
Mr. Ewing served in the Army from 1946 to 1948 and earned the World War II Victory Medal.
He attended Flemington grammar and high schools and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He was employed by the New Jersey Telephone Co. in Flemington and Hunter Douglas in Raritan Township before moving to Illinois.
He was employed at the State of Illinois Highway Department and later was a claims adjuster at Horace Mann Insurance Co., retiring in 1980.
Mr. Ewing was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church here and the Knights of Columbus.
He belonged to Elks Lodge 158.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald and two sisters Lucretia 'Keke' Claunch and Emma O'Brien.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Meyer; four daughters, Alaine Ewing, Lori Best and Lisa Riley, all of Springfield, and Linda Wayne of Decatur, Ill.; a son: Craig Ewing of Springfield; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday at the Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home in Springfield.
Burial followed at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with the Interveteran's Burial Detail of Sangamon County performing military honors.

Beatrice Silver
RARITAN TWP. - Beatrice M. Silver died April 2, 2003 at Hunterdon Medical Center. She was 81.
Born in New York City, she was a daughter of Jack and Irene Veit Weinberg. She lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. before moving to Raritan Township 45 years ago.
She was the retired owner/manager of Phoenix Taxi Corp. which she operated in the Bronx, N.Y. with her husband Harry Silver.
Mrs. Silver had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in New York City.
A longtime volunteer at Hunterdon Medical Center, she was instrumental helping the hospital in its early years. She was an officer in the AARP chapter of Flemington/Hunterdon County for many years.
Her husband died in 1984.
She has no immediate survivors.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
Interment was private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington.

Helen Olenick
FLEMINGTON - Helen Olenick died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at the Country Arch Care Center in Union Township. She was 91.
She was born in Reaville, the daughter of Isaac and Ethel Peters Wyckoff, and was a lifelong resident of the Flemington area.
She was a retired store manager for Flemington Cut Glass Co.
Her husband, Paul E. Olenick, died in 1960.
She is survived by five sons, Robert Pickell of Raritan Township, William Pickell of Branchville, John Pickell of Farmville, Va., Charles Olenick of Belle Mead; and Paul L. Olenick of High Bridge; a brother, Walter Wyckoff of Lambertville; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Services were held yesterday at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Reaville.

James Farrell
PLAINFIELD - James J. Farrell died April 1, 2003 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. He was 78.
Two daughters, Kathleen Farrell and Winifred Farrell, live in Three Bridges.
Born in Newark, he lived Carteret before moving to Plainfield 37 years ago.
Mr. Farrell was an internal auditor with the Union County Parks Commission before retiring. He formerly worked as a systems analyst and budget analyst for Singer Manufacturing Co. in Elizabeth.
He had served as secretary of the Singer Employees Federal Credit Union and vice-president of the Union County Employees Federal Credit Union.
He was a devout Christian and family man and an avid gardener and reader.
His wife, Gloria Brandt Farrell, died in 1997.
In addition to his two daughters, Mr. Farrell is survived by another daughter, Josephine Farrell-Betz of Mendham; a sister, Fern Farrell of Orlando, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Services were held on Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home in Fanwood. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.

Michelle M. Warner
LAMBERTVILLE - Michelle McCook Warner died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Rolling Hills Care Center in Clinton Township. She was 60.
Known as Mickey, she was born in Lansing, Mich., the daughter of Donald and Helen Marshall McCook. She came to the New Hope, Pa., area as a child, then lived in Wixom, Mich., for five years and St. James, N.Y., for 25 years before moving to Lambertville five years ago.
She was a 1960 graduate of Solebury School and a 1985 graduate of Stony Brook University on Long Island, N.Y.
Mrs. Warner was the supervisor of a paralegal staff at the accounting firm of DeLoitte & Touche in New York City for 15 years before retiring seven years ago. She had also served as director of the Smithhaven Ministries in Coram, N.Y.
She was a member of the Lambertville Historical Society and the Kalmia Club of Lambertville. An avid reader and antique collector, she treasured her home, her family, friends and companion animals.
Mrs. Warner is survived by her husband, William J.; her sons, Kenneth of Wilton, Conn., David of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., and Stephen of Vicksburg, Mich.; two brothers, John McCook and Jim McCook, both of Solebury, Pa., and five grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 23 at Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home in Lambertville.

Nancy E. Verity
WILMINGTON, Ohio - Nancy E. Verity died on Oct. 7, 2002, at Jewish Kenwood Hospital of Cincinnati, Ohio, following a brief illness. She was 54.
Ms. Verity was born in Somerville, the daughter of Harold L. and Frances (Barrick) Verity.
She attended Union Township and Delaware Township schools, graduating from Hunterdon Central High School in 1966. While in school she participated in 4-H. She attended Northeastern Bible College for two years.
After moving to Ohio in the early 1970s, she worked at Clinton Memorial Hospital and was most recently supervisor of centralized scheduling.
She was an active member of Wilmington Fellowship Christian Church.
She is survived by her father, of Crystal River, Fla.; a son, Andrew of Wilmington, Ohio; a sister, Janet Tremaine of Milford, a brother, Dennis of Santa Rosa, Calif., and a granddaughter.
A memorial service were held at Wilmington Christian Fellowship Church in Wilmington, Ohio. Interment was at Rosemont Cemetery.

Joyce Butler Soltys
HUNTLEY, ILL. - Joyce Butler Soltys died Oct. 17, 2002, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill. She was 63.
Born in Trenton, she was the daughter of Arthur and Almena Rockafellow Butler.
She lived in Flemington until this year, when she moved to Huntley.
She graduated from Hunterdon Central High School in 1957.
She worked at Hunterdon Central High School's administrative office until retiring in June.
Her husband, John, died in 1995.
Surviving are two daughters, Susanne Strotman of Park Ridge, Ill., and Leanne Kremer of Gaithersburg, Md.; a brother, Gerald Butler of Houston, Texas, and two granddaughters.
Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington, followed by interment at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Flemington.

Charles W. Scott
PIPERSVILLE, Pa. - Charles W. Scott Jr. died Oct. 14, 2002, in Doylestown, Pa. He was 44.
He was the nephew of Shirley Nemeth of Holland Township, Louise Carr of Frenchtown and Bill Scott of Phillipsburg.
Born in Leominster, Mass., he was the son of Charles W. Scott, who is deceased, and Joan Nemeth Scott, with whom he lived.
Mr. Scott was employed for several years as a machine operator for Penn Engineering in Danboro, Pa.
Funeral services were held Oct. 18 at Finegan Funeral Home in Phillipsburg, followed by burial in Bloomsbury Cemetery.
Mary J. Milligan
FRANKLIN TWP. - Mary J. Milligan died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Praxis Care Center in Easton. She was 85.
Born in the Klinesville section of Raritan Township, she was the daughter of William and Mary Ellen Rake Smith. She was a lifelong area resident.
Many years ago, she was an operator for United Telephone Co. in Clinton.
She was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Robert, died in 1994.
She is survived by a son, Robert G. of Freemansburg, Pa.; two brothers, Jacob Smith of Oxford and Charles Smith of Clinton; eight sisters, Bessie Biel and Edith Thatcher, both of High Bridge, Hazel Novack of Trenton, Doris Sipler of Annandale; Katharn Byrne of Pennsylvania, Annie Church of New York, Betty Smith of Flemington and Mazie Morgan of Flemington; two grandsons, and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 23 at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home in Lebanon. Interment was at Cherryville Baptist Cemetery.

Robert F. Masek
CLINTON TWP. - Robert F. Masek died Oct. 16, 2002, at Hunterdon Medical Center. He was 61.
Born in Bridgeport, Conn., he was the son of Frank J. and Mary Pronechen Masek. He lived in Framingham, Mass. before moving to Clinton Township 30 years ago.
He graduated in 1958 from Fairfield (Conn.) Preparatory School and received his degree in chemistry from the University of Connecticut, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, in 1964.
Mr. Masek was a research chemist for Air Products and Chemicals in Allentown, Pa.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Whitehouse Station.
Mr. Masek was a member of the Clinton Elks.
Surviving are his wife, the former Carol DiTrocchio; his sister, Sally M. Bonomo of Stratford, Conn.; two daughters, Donna Grade of Somerville and Melinda Popolla of Union Township, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 21 at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church.
Burial was at Mountainview Cemetery in Cokesbury under the direction of Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, Lebanon.
James Hockenbury
OLDWICK - James Hockenbury died Oct. 15, 2002, at Hunterdon Medical Center. He was 75.
He was born in Morristown, and lived in Piscataway before moving to Oldwick in 1966.
He served in the Army during World War II in the Asian-Pacific Theater.
Mr. Hockenbury was a self-employed carpenter until retiring in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Marian; two daughters, Judith Louise Auvil of Roanoke, Va. and Joan Hockenbury of San Francisco; two sisters, Ethel Hilliker of Upper Black Eddy, Pa., and Ann Gaffney of Bridgewater, and two grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 19 at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home in Basking Ridge. Burial was in Somerset Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Basking Ridge.
Marilyn Morgan Hanlon
HAMPTON - Marilyn Morgan Hanlon died Oct. 17, 2002, at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She was 66.
Born in Richardson County, Neb., she was a daughter of Benjamin Trecek and Zelma Hunzeker.
Ms. Hanlon lived here many years, during which time she was a clerk at the Glen Gardner Post Office. She retired in 1992. Ms. Hanlon enjoyed crocheting.
She was predeceased by her husband, Pete.
Surviving are three daughters, Zelma Morgan and Linda Eick, both of Hampton, and Hester Munniksma of Belvidere; a son, Willie of Hampton; a brother, Ronald Hanlon of California, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 21 at Warren Hills/Ford Memorial Home in Washington, followed by burial at Musconetcong Valley Cemetery in Hampton.
Elizabeth Exley
UNION TWP. - Elizabeth "Betty" A. Exley died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Hunterdon Medical Center. She was 70.
Born in Providence, R.I., she was the daughter of James and Agnes Mahon Ahern. She lived in Union Township for the last 12 years. She had previously resided in Martins Creek, Pa.
She was a supervisor for Hunterdon Developmental Center in Clinton for 24 years, retiring in 1992.
She enjoyed traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons, Philip of Cape May Court House, Michael and George, both of High Bridge, and James of Belvidere; two daughters, Vicki Exley of Schuylkill Haven, Pa., and Mary Exley Reed of Harmony Township; nine grandchildren, and a close friend, Herbert Scheuing of Pattenburg.
Funeral services were held Oct. 21 at Martin Funeral Home in Clinton.

Roger Cain
LEBANON - Roger M. Cain, an attorney for more 40 years, died Oct. 17, 2002 at Somerset Medical Center. He was 70.
He was born in Spencer, W. Va., the son of John and Eunice Gerwig Cain. He lived in Hunterdon County since the 1960s.
He was a partner in the law firm of Felter, Cain & Shurts in Lebanon since 1965. The law office will continue operation under the direction of William Shurts.
Mr. Cain received his A.B. in 1955 at Rutgers University and his law degree in 1961 from the University of Virginia. He was admitted to the New Jersey State Bar in 1961.
He was a member of the Hunterdon County Bar Association (including a term as president), the New Jersey State Bar Association and the New Jersey Institute of Municipal Attorneys. He was a member of Delta Theta Phi fraternity.
He was also chairman of board of directors from 1987 to 1989 for the American Heart Association, New Jersey Affiliate. In 1993, he received the Howard W. Dayton Award, the highest honor given by the group. Mr. Cain served in various leadership capacities of the AHA-NJ, including chairman of the bylaws, nominations and awards, volunteer development and planned giving committees. He was a delegate to the AHA's Upper Atlantic Regional Heart Committee.
In his law practice, he was an attorney for the planning boards of Lebanon Township from 1965 to 1970; Raritan Township from 1969 to 1978; Bethlehem Township from 1970 to 1978 and Clinton Township from 1970 to 1981.
Mr. Cain was a member of Round Valley United Methodist Church in Lebanon, formerly the Lebanon United Methodist Church. He was a lay leader at the church and was the coordinator for the television broadcast from the church. He was also active on several church committees.
Mr. Cain was on the board of directors for The Lord's Closet, a Readington Township organization which supplies items to the needy. He was a member of the Lebanon Fourth of July Parade Committee.
A sister, Loretta Cain, died previously.
He is survived by his wife, the former Carole Edler; one son, James R. of Redding, Conn.; a daughter, Judy Cain of Charleston, S.C.; a stepson, Jon Weaver of Spruce Creek, Pa., a stepdaughter; Kim Walsh of Lebanon; four sisters, Marilyn Donaldson of Tucson, Ariz., Roberta Zakarian of Ventura, Calif., Judith Lambert of Westbury, N.Y., and Martha Schlossburg of New Zealand, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. at Round Valley United Methodist Church.
Interment is private, under the direction of Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home in Lebanon.

Alexander Kennedy
WELLFLEET, Mass. - Alexander Kennedy Jr. died on Oct.17, 2002 at his home. He was 82.
He was a former Stanton resident.
He was a born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of Alexander and Jessie Aitken Kennedy. He later lived with his parents on their chicken farm in Stanton.
Mr. Kennedy attended Stanton Grammar School and graduated from Flemington High School in 1935. He graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
He was editor of the Clinton Democrat, which in 1944 became part of the Hunterdon Republican.
He left the newspaper in 1941 to join the Army in World War II. He served four and a half years, rising from private to captain. He was engaged in the North African, Italian and Southern France campaigns, earning four battle stars.
After the war, Mr. Kennedy became suburban editor of the Plainfield Courier-News, a United Press correspondent, city editor of the Asbury Park Sun and assistant promotion manager of the Brooklyn Eagle. He then joined the Columbia Broadcasting System and became director of audience promotion for the CBS television network. When he retired from CBS, after 35 years of service, he was executive editor of the CBS Press Department.
Mr. Kennedy had a lifelong interest in royalty and became a close friend of the Hapsburg family, the dynasty that ruled Austria-Hungary and most of Europe for 700 years. He corresponded with King Umberto II of Italy.
He also maintained a home in Naples, Fla. and was a member of the Deauville Lakes Country Club, the historical societies of both Naples and Wellfleet, and the Blakesely Book Club.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, the former Barbara Oakley; a son, David R.; two daughters, Laura Kennedy-Klemm of Cataumet, Mass. and Victoria Kennedy-Nesmith of Carmel Valley, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Huber of North Plainfield, and a granddaughter.
Graveside services were held Oct. 19 at Oakdale Cemetery in Wellfleet. Arrangements were by Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Service in Hyannis, Mass.

Jean Weller Berger
FRANKLIN TWP. - Jean Weller Berger died on Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Hunterdon Medical Center after a long illness. She was 83.
She was born in Wilkinsburg, Pa., to Garfield and Mary Barr Weller, and moved with her family to Nutley, where she grew up. She moved to Franklin Township with her husband, Philip, in 1946. Mrs. Berger was a graduate of Penn Hall and Syracuse University. She had worked for the Shering pharmaceutical company.
She was a 4-H leader and served on the Hunterdon County Extension Council. She was a longtime member of the Clinton Women's Club, serving as its president for three years and as editor of its newsletter for several terms throughout the 1980s.
Her husband, Philip, died in 1993. Surviving are a son, P. Jeffrey of Ames, Iowa; four daughters, Jennifer Stanley of Oxford, Md., Kim Berger of Philadelphia, Susan Berger of Los Angeles and Sally Berger of New York City, and two grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Scholarship Fund of the Women's Club of Clinton and the Salvation Army's Camp Tecumseh in Alexandria Township. Arrangements were handled by Martin Funeral Home in Clinton.
Elsie M. Maxwell
HAMPTON - Elsie M. Maxwell of Hampton died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Brakeley Park Care Center in Lopatcong Township. She was 96.
She was born in Jutland, the daughter of George Earl and Maggie Mitchell Dalrymple. She lived in Glen Gardner, Washington and Hampton before moving to Brakeley Park.
She worked for Exact Tool & Level Co. in HIgh Bridge.
She was a member of Norton United Methodist Church in Norton.
She was also a member of the Milford VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles R., who died in 1962; a brother, Howard Dalrymple of Whiting, and two sisters, Lillian Kline of Rosemont and Alice Simon of Interlazen Lakes, Fla.
She is survived by a son, Charles J. of Hampton; two daughters, Verna Hauck and Gloria Braun, both of Clinton Township; and a brother, Kenneth Dalrymple of Dunellen.
Funeral services were held Oct. 21 at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home in Lebanon. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery, Clinton.
Edgar T. Leeberg
ALEXANDRIA TWP. - Edgar T. Leeberg died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at home. He was 78.
Born in Roselle, he was a son of the late Edward and Emma Leeberg.
Mr. Leeberg was a tool and die maker. He owned Diamond Point Knife and Tool Co. in Alexandria Township.
He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as a radio operator and instructor.
Mr. Leeberg was a former member of the Hunterdon County Republican Committee, representing Alexandria Township. He also served on the township Election Board.
His wife, the former Florence D. Maieran, died in 1999. A grandson, Kipp Sujet, died in 1995.
Surviving are two sons, Drew P. Sujet of Clinton and Gary J. Sujet of Alexandria Township; a daughter, Andrea K. Stamets of Holland Township; a brother, Albert Leeberg of Florida; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services were planned. Arrangements were by W.E. Johnson Funeral Home in Holland Township.

Frances E. Conover
HOLLAND TWP. - Frances E. Conover died at home on Oct. 15, 2002. She was 85.
Born in High Bridge, she was the daughter of Lester Hunt and Edith Stone Hunt.
She graduated from High Bridge High School in 1936.
A homemaker, she lived in Holland Township for the past 26 years. She enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 U.S. states and many foreign countries.
She is survived by her husband, Charles of Holland Township; two daughters, Candice Eick of Washington Township and Patricia Frenchko of Easton; a son, Neal C. of Belvidere; a brother, Joseph Hunt of Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Services were held Oct. 21 at Martin Funeral Home in Clinton, followed by interment at the Evergreen Cemetery in Clinton.

Earl R. Sharp
LAMBERTVILLE - Earl R. Sharp died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. He was 76.
Born in Lambertville, he was the son of Richard and Blanche Pefer Sharp. Mr. Sharp was a lifelong resident of the city.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Sharp was a machinist with the Union Camp Co. in New Hope for many years before retiring 10 years ago.
He was an avid fisherman.
His wife, Ada Taylor Sharp, and two brothers, Louis and Edward Sharp, died earlier.
Mr. Sharp is survived by two daughters, Linda Smith of Frenchtown and Nancy Martinez of Trenton; a step-daughter, Dolores Fletcher of Locktown, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. at Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home in Lambertville. Interment will follow at Holcombe-Riverview Cemetery in Delaware Township.
The calling period will be Oct. 24 at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
