Dr. Edward TORREY
Bef. Dec. 22, 1921 Dr. Edward TORREY, 74, a physician at Allegany and Olean more than half a century, died in the Olean General Hospital on Thursday. He underwent an operation for cancer on October 6th. Dr. TORREY came to Allegany in 1869 after graduation from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, ME and College of Physicians and Surgery, NY. He is survived by his widow, one son and one daughter. Dr. TORREY was one of the ablest and most skillful physicians in western New York. Jacob JAWORSKI, 50, convicted last Thursday in Supreme Court at Mayville of the murder of Mrs. Mechelina MANCHALSKI at Findley Lake, was sentenced by Justice SEARS to die in the electric chair at Sing Sing during the week of January 29. Charles HUFSTADER died at his home on Mill Street at Delevan on Saturday,
26 November 1921, after a long and painful time from Bright's disease.
He was obliged to give up all work for over a year, but was confined to
his bed only a week. He bore his suffering patiently, yet often said he
would be glad to go home. Mr. HUFSTADER was the son of David and Eliza
HUFSTADER and was born in the Town of Ashford on 3 April 1848. Out of a
family of seven, only one brother, Oscar HUFSTADER, survives. Mr. HUFSTADER
was married on 6 July 1873

George WILLEY, a life long resident and Civil War veteran of Bliss, died last week aged 78 years. Lester M. ALLEN, age 47, in the undertaking and furniture business at North Java for 30 years, died last week. Mrs. William K. HARRISON, wife of the Supervisor of the Salamanca Railroad yards, is dead after a few days illness with pneumonia. Harris W. SANDOL, 18, of East Aurora, died on Sunday from a fractured skull caused by a fall from a horse. Mrs. Nora HERRICK, wife of the editor of the "Shingle House Mail", died on Sunday evening, December 4th, following a week's illness from pneumonia. Alfred HOLMES of Celeron, 65, fell dead while at work on Thursday. Henry C. MORGAN, President of the First National Bank of Cuba, died on Friday morning, age 67. Christopher, Edward J., 84, of Collins, died Feb. 7, 2000 in Buffalo. He was husband of the late Millicent Meyers Christopher; son of the late Joseph and Lena DeMarco Christopher; father of Edward Christopher and Carol Shattuck; brother of Sam Christopher, the late Della Leone, Josephine Loffredo, Jennie Chiarmonte, Liz Ursitti, and Thomas, James, and Vincenco Christopher. Elvin, Arthur J., 76, of Gowanda, died Feb. 13, 2000 in Gowanda. He was husband of Margaret Boberg Elvin; and the late Sally Victor Elvin; son of the late Arthur J., Sr. and Ann McCallie Elvin; father of Ronald and Daniel Elvin; brother of Mary Dalton, Margaret Mammoser, and Robert Elvin. Krauss, Chester L., 72, of Gowanda, died Feb. 11, 2000. He was the father of Wayne and Jeffrey Krauss; and brother of Doris M. Krauss and the late James A. Krauss. Russo, Mary C. Renaldo, 75, of North Collins, died Feb. 11, 2000. She was the wife of the late Charles F. Russo; mother of Richard Russo, Patricia Mack, and Michael Russo; sister of Lucy Kelm, Josephine Kusior, Mary Lardo, and the late Paul Renaldo, Laura Romero, Katherine Haynes, and Peter Renaldo. Stebbins, Ernest R., Sr., 59, of Gowanda, died Feb. 14, 2000. He was the husband of Jennie Benson Stebbins; son of the late Earnest and L:ila Christian Stebbins; father of Ernest Stebbins and Sheila Bailey; brother of Paula Slack, Trudy Penn, and Alan Stebbins. Stearns, Bruce W., 56, of Arcade, died Jan. 18, 2000 in Rochester.
