Joseph Marsky
Joseph M. Marsky, 77, of Streetsboro, died Saturday at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Brecksville following an extended illness.
Born July 24, 1920 in Cleveland, he was the son of Martin and Mary Marsky. He had been a Streetsboro resident for the past 37 years. He was retired from Hancock Lumber of Chagrin Falls where he worked as a foreman.
Mr. Marsky attended St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Streetsboro. He was a member of the Streetsboro American Legion Post No. 685. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Leona; and several nieces and nephews. One brother, Val Sersa, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel at Northlawn Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls.

Mary Ann Racin
Mary Ann Racin, 64, of Cuyahoga Falls died Saturday. Services will be announced by the Wood-Kortwright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Lillian Maynard
Lillian C. Maynard, 90, of Nelson died Friday at St. Joseph Eastland Hospital in Warren.
Born April 8, 1907, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of James and Mary (Swantonski) Chunat. She had lived in Nelson for 45 years.
She had been an inspector at Polson Rubber prior to her retirement in 1970.
Mrs. Maynard was a member of Nelson United Methodist Church.
Survivors include son, Robert, of Garrettsville; daughters Laverne Pechac and Pearl Ely, both of Garrettsville; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Lawrence, died in 1988. In addition to her parents, her stepmother, Katie Chunat, and brother, Clarence, also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home, Garrettsville, with services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Dwaine C. Stanley officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.

Kathryn Becker
Services for Kathryn (Weissapple) Becker, the mother of Kent State University President Carol Cartwright, will be held Monday in State College, Pa.
Calling hours for Mrs. Becker, 88, who died Thursday, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory.
Born Oct. 5, 1908 in Wisconsin, she grew up in the small town of Durand.
Before marrying Carl Becker, she worked as an executive secretary to the president of an insurance company in St. Paul, Minn.
Mrs. Becker and her husband settled in Pittsburgh after Mr. Becker retired from the Missouri-Pacific Railroad.
After her husband's death, she moved to State College to be closer to her children.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, Richard, and six grandchildren. A son, James, died previously.

Johnny Hamilton
Johnny D. Hamilton, 79, of Fairchild Avenue in Kent, died Wednesday at Altercare of Ravenna.
Born April 9, 1918 in White County, Tenn., she was the daughter of John D. and Novella (Knowles) Doney.
Mrs. Hamilton worked as a press operator at the Chrysler Corp.
Survivors include her sons, Dale Hamilton of Nashville, Tenn.; Ronnie Hamilton of Memphis, Tenn.; Kevin Greathouse of Alabama; daughters, Laura Jane Winnett of Randolph, Joann Radvansky of Memphis, Mich., Geraldine Ricketson of Kent, Martha Kay Moore of Michigan, Mary Faye Martin of Michigan and Karen Bodin of Michigan; 29 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. Her son, James Harold, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent, immediately followed by an 8:30 p.m. service with the Rev. Kay Dunlap officiating.

Kathryn Becker
Kathryn (Weissapple) Becker, the mother of Kent State University President Carol Cartwright, died Thursday night at a nursing home in State College, Pa., where she had lived for about 20 years.
Cartwright was en route to State College this morning. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be held in State College.
Born Oct. 5, 1908 in Wisconsin, she grew up in the small town of Durand.
Before marrying Carl Becker, Mrs. Becker worked as an executive secretary to the president of an insurance company in St. Paul, Minn.
In the 1996 book, "Against the Tide: Career Paths of Women Leaders in American and British Higher Education," Cartwright, one of the 20 women featured, described her mother as a woman who left her career to raise her family of three children.
Mrs. Becker and her husband supported Cartwright's decision to attend college, but never attended themselves, Cartwright said in the book.
She and her husband settled in Pittsburgh after Mr. Becker retired from the Missouri-Pacific Railroad. After her husband's death, she moved to State College to be closer to her children. Cartwright recalled today that her mother enjoyed seeing her become KSU's 10th president.
"One of the highlights of recent years was her attendance at my inauguration," Cartwright said. "She had a wonderful time, and especially enjoyed dancing with my son, Stephen.
"My mother, who grew up in an era when women rarely worked after marriage and rarely pursued higher education, was thrilled by my career path," she said. "She was always supportive of me."
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her son, Richard and six grandchildren. Her son, James, died previously.

Roseland Costill
STREETSBORO ­ Roseland A. Costill, 61, of Streetsboro, died Wednesday at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident Tuesday.
Born July 27, 1936, she was the daughter of Brooks and Delma (Halley) Howard. She had lived in Streetsboro for the past 6 months and was formerly of Chesterland.
She had worked as a sales clerk for the past three years at Turney Hardware in Chesterland. She had worked for several years at Mantua Corners Crossroads Tavern.
Mrs. Costill enjoyed traveling, gardening, dancing, cooking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include sons, Patrick Fitzpatrick of Richmond, Va., Michael Fitzpatrick of Streetsboro and Sean Fitzpatrick of Westminster, Colo.; daughters, Mrs. Eileen (John) Shea of Richmond, Mrs. Molly (Kenneth) Carpenter of Warm Mineral Springs, Fla., Mrs. Erin (Gary) Mandalfino of Chesterland and Michelle Costill of Stow; 10 grandchildren; and sisters, Jane Spiker and Barbara Baumgardner, both of Ft. Pierce, Fla. and Ruth Pennock of Daleville, Va. Three brothers died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where funeral services will follow with the Rev. James Lang officiating. A private burial will follow. The family will also receive friends following the service at the residence of Erin Mandalfino, 8761 Wilson Mills Road in Chesterland.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Donald Young
Donald Lee Young, 50, of Holcomb Road in Newton Falls, died Thursday at his home following a long illness.
Born Oct. 27, 1946 in Warren, he was the son of Charles (Bill) Young and Kathryn J. Hollingshead. He had lived in the Howland-Bolindale area for 45 years before moving to Newton Falls.
Mr. Young was a machinist for Service Guide in Cortland for 23 years.
He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Bolindale Nazarene Church, and was a member and past president of Trumbull County Amature Ham Radio Club. He enjoyed fishing and racing at Nelson Ledges.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Lynn (Miller Richter), whom he married May 13, 1994; son, Craig of Wasilla, Ala.; stepson, Jon Miller of Newton Falls; daughter, Stephanie Young of Cortland; stepdaughters, Val Lash of Lordstown and Jenny Kover and Vickie Hamerik both of Newton Falls; six grandchildren; adoptive mother, Kathryn L. Young of Niles; brother, Robert Young of Jeanette, Pa.; and sister, Billie Keene of Niles.
There will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place.
Arrangements were handled by James Funeral Home in Newton Falls.

Lois Lash
Lois C. Lash, 82, of Ravenna, died Thursday after a brief illness.
Born May 12, 1915, in Nottingham, Pa., she was the daughter George and Wanetta (Harriett) Brown.
Mrs. Lash was homemaker. She was a member of the Yale Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Roger of Stow, Bruce of Derby, Kan., David of Ravenna and Keith of Kent; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Jewel Leonard of Beaver Falls, Pa. Her son Brian died in 1971.
Calling hours will be held from 6 p.m. until the 8 p.m. service Sunday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. A private burial will be held.

Roseland Costill
STREETSBORO - Roseland S. Costill, 61, died Wednesday at Metro Health General Hospital in Cleveland.
Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Velma Brumbaugh
PALMYRA - Velma Irene Brumbaugh, 85, died Wednesday at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born June 26, 1912 in Brimfield, she was the daughter of Clarence and Myrtle (Werstler) Hershberger. She had lived in Palmyra since 1944.
Survivors include her sons, Harold I. of Hatboro, Pa., and Robert A. and Donald G., both of Diamond; daughters, Gerry L. Seem and Joanne L. Skidmore of Diamond; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Irvin H.,died in 1991. Her son, Richard, died in 1967, and her brother, LeRoy Hershberger, died in 1970.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Jody Hill officiating. Burial will be in West Cemetery in Palmyra.

Robert Ruble
Robert R. Ruble, 76, of Kent, died Monday.
Born March 21, 1921, in Marion, Ind., he was the son of Raymond W. and Vivian (Boxell) Ruble.
Mr. Ruble retired from Kent State University, where he was director of vending.
Mr. Ruble was a member of the United Methodist Church of Kent, the Tree City and Mahoning Valley National Wood Carvers clubs, past presidentof the Kent Lions Club and a member of Rockton Masonic Lodge No. 316 in Kent. He had been an amateur radio operator since 1951.
He served as a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol during World War II.
Survivors include: sons Gary L. of Akron, James L. (Vicki) of Mansfield, Richard A. (Linda) of Port Townsend, Wash., and Jeffrey R. of Orem, Utah; three grandchildren; brother Jack (Fran) of Barberton; sister Jean Tannert of Kent; and friend, Dorothy Egan of Hudson.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Fenton St. John officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery inKent.

Joseph Parsons
ROOTSTOWN - Joseph H. "Joe" Parsons, 73, died Tuesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a period of failing health.
Born Aug. 2, 1923 in Rootstown, he was the son of Arthur and Anna (Holmes) Parsons. He was a life resident of Rootstown.
Mr. Parsons was owner and operator of Joe's Lime Service utnil he retired in 1990. He formerly was a commercial truck driver and farmer.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rootstown, where he had served as a trustee on several occasions.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in both Germany and France.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Thompson); son, Bill of Rootstown; foster sons, Raymond Acomb, Jim Johnson and Larry Woodall, all of Rootstown, and Bob Woodall of Ravenna; foster daughter, Judy Corple of Denton, Texas; four grandchildren; nine foster grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two foster great-grandchildren. His sister, Lucille Kibler, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home in Ravenna. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church of Ravenna, with the Rev. Susan Tipton officiating. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown.
Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church of Rootstown.

Robert Harrell
Robert L. Harrell Jr., 57, of 5167 Warner Road in Kinsman, died Wednesday at his home.
Born Dec. 28, 1939 in Warren, he was the son of Robert L. Sr. and Lucille (Harding) Harrell. He had lived in the Kinsman area for 20 years and previously lived in Newton Falls and Warren.
Mr. Harrell worked as a dispatcher for Regal Transport of Niles.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Leach), whom he married Sept. 23, 1961; sons, Theodore R. of Howland and Benjamin P. of Warren; daughters, Jeanne Harwood of Warren and Rachel Cox of Niles; stespson, Michael Leach of Warren; nine grandchildren; stepmother, Betty Harrell of Warren; brothers, David of Indiana and Dennis of Kentucky; and stepsister, Margaret Corisine of Georgia. His brother, Richard, died previously.
There will be no calling hours or funeral services.
Arrangements are being handled by Borowski Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Newton Falls.

Jack Hale
Jack M. Hale, 79, of Lake Milton, died Tuesday at Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital in Youngstown.
Born May 25, 1918 in Sulphur Springs, Ark., he was the son of Reed and Anna (Markwardt) Hale. He had lived in Lake Milton since 1959 and was formerly of Akron and McConnell, Ill.
Mr. Hale was a truck driver for Anchor Motor Freight in Lordstown and Leppo Inc. in Tallmadge. He also operated a saw-sharpening service.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pricetown.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Brashaw), whom he married April 12, 1942; sons, David of Mogadore and Alan of Uniontown; daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Sandra) Crown of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Linda of Cuyahoga Falls; six grandchildren; and sister, Irene Undieme of Freeport Ill. His grandson, Teddy Crown, and brother Larry, both died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Palmyra Cemetery.

Mary Menough
Mary Menough, 83, of Ravenna , died Wednesday in Anchorage, Alaska.
Services will be announced by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Robert J. Nussbaumer
Robert J. Nussbaumer, 73, formerly of Aurora, who was a professional football player, coach and talent scout for the Cleveland Browns and other National Football League teams, died Saturday at his home in Moreland Hills.
Mr. Nussbaumer began his foootball career with the Green Bay Packers in 1946, and played six seasons in the NFL, first as a receiver, then as a defensive back. He played for the Washington Redskins, then joined the Chicago Cardinals in 1949, before returning to Green Bay for his final season in 1951.
He spent two years with the Chicago Cardinals as a talent scout and was an assistant coach and a talent scout for the Detroit Lions from 1954 until joining the Browns in 1965 as an aide to the personnel director. In 1972, he took over as director of player personnel. He served as vice president in charge of player personnel from 1973 to 1977.
He was a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he lettered in football, baseball and track. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include a son, John R. of East Lansing, Mich; and two grandchildren. His wife, Marie, who was a reporter for the Record-Courier, died in 1974.
A memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Forward Funeral Home, 17022 Chagrin Blvd., Shaker Heights.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Robert Ruble
Robert R. Ruble, 76, of Kent, died Monday.
Services will be announced by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel.
