Dorothy Aldridge, 75
Former Kent resident Dorothy Aldridge, 75, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at her home in Wethersfield, Conn.
Born Oct. 2, 1925, in Kent, she was the daughter of Thomas and Genevieve (Shanley) Linnen.
Mrs. Aldridge was a research assistant at the Institute of Living for many years, retiring in 1992.
Survivors include her husband, William; daughters, Rosemary Aldridge of Canton and Carol Aldridge of Warren; granddaughters Sarah Aldridge and Joann Daigle, whom she raised; one great-grandson; brothers Thomas (Metta) Linnen of Hubbard and John (Peggy) Linnen of Munroe Falls; and sisters, Patricia Zeller of Stow and Jean (William) Howard of Ft. White, Fla. Her brother, Paul Linnen; sisters, Louise Linnen and Joanne Strah, and brother-in-law William Zeller, all died previously.
Services were held June 12 in Connecticut. Burial was in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Connecticut. Arrangements were made by Rose Hill Funeral Home in Rocky Hill, Conn.

Marvin Bailey, 69
GARRETTSVILLE - Marvin A. Bailey, 69, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at home following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 31, 1931 in Troy Township, he was the son of Home and Georgine (Klein) Bailey.
Mr. Bailey was most recently employed as a repairman for the Furon Corp., retiring in 1994. He was a foreman at Polson Rubber in Garrettsville for 25 years.He was a graduate of Hiram College.
Mr. Bailey served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a social member of VFW Post 1055 in Ravenna, and was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Ravenna. He enjoyed hunting, especially for deer, and working with tractors and mowers.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes (Moskal); brothers, Freeman (Mildred), Clyde (Donna) and Dale (Lynne), all of Mantua; sisters, Eleanor (Sam) McAnich of Garrettsville; Grace (Archie) Eggleston of West Farmington, and Jean (Wilbur) Valot of Newton Falls; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Bailey of Garrettsville. His parents; brothers, Homer and Charles F.; and sisters, Pearl Bartholomew and Alma Dyson died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to 11 a.m. services Monday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, with the the Rev. Fred Bell officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.
Roger Krohn, 52
MANTUA - Roger Krohn, 52, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in Conroe, Texas, following a long illness.
Born July 14, 1948, in Bedford, he was the son of Herbert and Jeanette (Monroe) Krohn. He was a lifetime resident of Mantua.
Mr. Krohn was a lab technician for Samuel Moore & Company in Mantua.
He was a member of the Mantua Methodist Church and the Crestwood Lions Club, serving as chairman of the Christmas tree sales. He enjoyed reading and long walks.
Survivors include a brother, Dennis (Pat) Krohn of Garrettsville; sister, Debra (Robert) Garling of Willis, Texas; three nephews; and one niece.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Portage Faith United Methodist Church in Mantua. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua.
Memorials can be made to the Crestwood Lions Club.
Sharon Edwards, 51
Former area resident Sharon Edwards, 51, of Valrico, Fla., died Monday, June 18, 2001, at her home.
She was a 1968 graduate of Rootstown High School. She moved from the area to Florida in 1971.
Mrs. Edwards was a registered nurse in the critical care unit of St. Joseph's Hospital and was an instructor in the RN program at an area college. She was a graduate of Florida Southern School of Nursing.
Survivors include her husband, Terry D; sons, James (Lindsey) of Brandon, Fla., Christopher (Roxanne) of San Antonio, Texas and Brian of Brandon, Fla.; two grandchildren; brothers, Jim White of Kent and R.J. White of Silver Lake; sisters, Nancy McGee of Ravenna, Trish Wood of Stow and Margie Curry of Marietta, Ga.
Services have been held in Florida. Gentry Morrison Funeral Home in Lakeland, Fla. made arrangements.

Henry C. Vanderhoeven, 92
NELSON - Military graveside services will be held Monday for Henry C. Vanderhoeven, 92, who died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at the Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Herrington Cemetery, Nelson.
Born March 6, 1909 in The Hague, Holland, he was the son of Cornelius and Margaret (Seiman) Vanderhoeven.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Vanderhoeven was a farmer. He was a Portage County resident since 1968.
Survivors include a nephew, Sam (Anna Mae) VanDerHoeven of Nelson; and great-nephew, Thomas (Lois) Schaffer of Freedom.
Arrangements are being handled by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville.
Kenneth E. Longenette, 46
Kenneth E. Longenette, 46, of Kent, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a brief illness.
Born June 28, 1954, in Ravenna, he was the son of Kenneth and Barbara (Hurst) Longenette.
A life-long Portage County resident, he was a rubber worker at Crest Rubber.
Survivors include his parents, Kenneth (Jeanette) Longenette of Ravenna and Barbara (Wes) McDaniel of Ravenna; brother, Michael McDaniel of Ravenna; and sisters, Brenda Wilson of Kent and Becky Longenette of Ravenna.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to 11 a.m. services Monday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with Dr. A.H. Barbee officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
Roberta Secrest
Roberta Faye Secrest, 88, of Cambridge, the mother of Sheryl Gardner of Kent, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, in Cambridge.
Mrs. Secrest attended Kent State University for a time, as did her husband and three of her daughters. She taught sewing and knitting and worked as a substitute teacher in Cambridge schools while her daughters were young. She graduated from Muskingum College when she was in her 50s and taught first grade at Oakland School in Cambridge.
Survivors include her daughters, Sheryl (C.C. 'Dick') Gardner of Kent, DeMeril (Paul) Schoenbachler of Louisville, Ky., Raoma "Randi" Secrest of Cuyahoga Falls, and Dixie (Tom) Lodge of Cambridge; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, Richard V., whom she married May 1, 1933, died in 1985.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home in Cambridge. Private services will be held Monday.
Lynn Marie Bartlett
Lynn Marie Bartlett, 37, of Bedford, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, in Cleveland.
Born Sept. 17, 1963, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Ralph and Sheila (Rothacker) Kingsmill. She formerly lived in Streetsboro.
Mrs. Bartlett was employed in sales.
Survivors include her husband, Michaelt; son, Michael Jr.; daughters Courtney, Kelly, and Shannon Bartlett; parents, Ralph and Sheila Kingsmill; and sisters, Lori (Jeffrey) Nemeth and Lisa Richards.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 521 Broadway, Bedford. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 400 Warrensville Center Road, Bedford. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Northfield.

AURORA Benjamin Gyrich, 82, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.

Diana Sue Brewer
Diana Sue Brewer, 49, of Munroe Falls, died Monday, June 18, 2001, of cancer.
Born Sept. 28, 1951 in Fairmont, W.Va., she was the daughter of Charles and Velma King.
Mrs. Brewer worked in the classified advertising department of the Akron Beacon Journal for 11 years. She was long time member of Akron Free Will Baptist Church where she enjoyed working as a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald L., to whom she had been married for 28 years; son, Ronald D.; daughter, Rhonda S. of Cincinnati; sisters, Donna J. (Donald) of Rootstown, Debra A. (Matthew) Wyers of Deerfield; grandmother, Opal G. Scyoc of Aradia, Fla. and mother-in-law Jeannine of Bradley, W.Va. Her parents died previously.
Calling hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. tonight at Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Kenneth Frisbee officiating. Entombment will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.

Thomas "Larry" Hampton
Thomas "Larry" Hampton, 49, of Ravenna, died suddenly Monday, June 18, 2001, at his home.
Born Feb. 3, 1952, in Albertville, Ala., he was the son of Tom and Bobbie (Smith) Hampton.
Mr. Hampton was a truck driver.
Survivors include his sons, Benjamin and Anddru Hampton of Ravenna; a daughter, Sara Hampton of Ravenna; mother, Bobbie Hampton of Aurora; brother, Gary (Teresa) Hampton of Mantua; and sister, Debra (Frank) Dengg of St. Petersburg, Fla. His father, Tom, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mennonite Church of Aurora.
Verna B. Beznoska
Verna B. Beznoska, 79, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville.
Born Dec. 4, 1921, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of John and Anna (Holicky) Skulina.
A homemaker, she was a longtime resident of Solon.
Survivors include her son, Frank (Jan) of Ravenna; daughter, Linda Gulyas of Twinsburg; and one grandson.
No calling hours will be held. Cremation has taken place. A private family burial at Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Heights will be held.
Arrangments were made by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.
Charles Cooper Jenks Jr.
Former Ravenna resident Charles Cooper Jenks Jr., 85, died Sunday, May 27, 2001 in the Portage County Nursing Home in Ravenna.
Born Jan. 13, 1916, in Erie, Pa., he was the son of Charles C. and Elizabeth (Dasen) Jenks.
Mr. Jenks was employed as a purchasing agent with Rockwell International of Richland, Wash. before his retirement.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include his sons, Charles D. (Suzanne) of Kent and David B. (Diana) of Kent, Wash.; daughter, Patricia J. (Perry) Williams of Ravenna; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Marion Bankoske of Warren, Pa. His wife, Opal (Dougan), died Jan. 25, 1999.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on June 30 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ravenna with the Rev. Judith Wozniak officiating. The Wood-Kortright Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel is handling arrangements.
Marian (Higgs) Sharp
Marian (Higgs) Sharp, 90, of Cleveland, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Walton Manor Nursing Home.
Born May 23, 1911, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Albert S. and Rosalind (Warner) Higgs. She was a lifelong Cleveland resident.
Mrs. Sharp was a secretary.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights. She was a member of the East Cleveland PTA and the League of Women Voters.
Survivors include her son, Warner Ross Sharp of Ravenna; a daughter, Linda Snowberger of Ravenna; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her husband, H. Ross Sharp, died in 1990. Two sisters also died previously.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Acacia Park Cemetery in Mayfield Heights with the Rev. Cliff Garris Jr. officiating.
Memorials may be made to Friends of Solon Library.

James T. Monroe Sr.
James T. Monroe Sr., 51, of Newton Falls, died of heart failure Sunday, June 17, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown.
Born June 14, 1950, in Possum Hollow, Ky., he was the son of Charles Thomas and Sarah Pauline (Click) Monroe. He had lived in Freedom Township before moving to Newton Falls in 1973.
Mr. Monroe was a line coordinator at General Motors for 30 years.
He was an Honorary Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, assisting with their Toys for Tots program.
He attended General Assembly Church of God in Newton Falls. He liked motorcycle riding and the outdoors, played guitar and banjo in local bands Show Time and Iron Horse and was a member of the Covered Bridge CB Club.
Survivors include his wife, Gail (Walker), whom he married Aug. 25, 1967; son, James T. Monroe Jr. of Newton Falls; daughter, Sheila Monroe of Newton Falls; three grandchildren; mother, Pauline of Freedom; brothers, Charles of Windham, Franklin of Hopemills, North Carolina and William of Freedom; and sisters, Bonnie O'Shields and Darla (Charles) Henley, both of Freedom, Gracie (Marland) Bowman of Newton Falls, Tammie Monroe of Shalersville and Hazel Chapple of Garrettsville.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the General Assembly Church of God in Newton Falls, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Newton Falls Lutheran Cemetery.
