James David Stemple Sr.
James David Stemple Sr., 67, of Lordstown, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at his home.
Born Jan. 3, 1934, in Terra Alta, W. Va., he was the son of John Jacob and Pearl (Taylor) Stemple. He had lived in Kingwood, W. Va. before moving to Lordstown in 1952.
Mr. Stemple was an assembler for General Motors Corp. in Lordstown for 25 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1953 to 1955.
He was a member of Bailey Road Baptist Church and was a former member of Christ Memorial Baptist Church in Warren and Lake Milton Baptist Church in Lake Milton. He served as a Sunday School superintendent and teacher, deacon, bus driver and Junior Church worker.
Mr. Stemple enjoyed camping, woodworking, hunting and refinishing furniture. He spent several weeks in Florida each winter.
Survivors include his wife, Iris (Weaver), whom he married Aug. 24, 1957; son, James Jr. of Stafford, Va.; daughter, Kim Chalker of Braceville; six grandchildren; brother, Charles of Streetsboro; and sister, Virginia Hahn of Oakland, Md. Brothers, Phil, Frank, Howard and John; and sister, Dortha Collins, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls and one hour prior to 1 p.m. services Monday at the Bailey Road Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lordstown Cemetery.

Norma Salinsky, 68
Norma (Woods) Neal Salinsky, 68, of Akron died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Division in Charleston, W.Va.
She was the daughter of Lee and Mable Woods. She was formerly of Idore, W.Va.
Mrs. Salinsky was a cook at Altercare of Ravenna until she retired.
Survivors include her sons, Scott Neal of Fresno, Ohio and Darrell Ray (Anita) Osborne of Dover, Ohio; daughters, Karen Osborne of Ravenna, "Patty" Pearl Gonzales, Vannessa K. (Butch) Whitted of Rootstown; Penny (Danny) Whitacre of Akron and Drema Nealof Columbus, eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Jolly Woods, and Nute Woods; and sisters, Madeline Sizemore, Ruby Johnson. A grandson, Danny Ray Gonzales; son-in-law, Tim Keifer; and sisters, Lenna Butcher and Garnet Woods, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, 154 Main St., Clay, W.Va., where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Herbert Vance officiating. Burial will be in the Reedy Cemetery in Indore, W.Va.
Virginia Boyer, 92
AURORA Virginia M. Boyer, 92, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Anna Maria Nursing Home in Aurora.
Born in Detroit, Mich., she was a resident of The Norwood since 1985.
Mrs. Boyer was a teacher for a short time until she married. She attended Detroit Teachers College.
Survivors include her son Richard R. (Edith) of Blufton, S.C.; daughter, Janet M. (Gerald P.) Miron of Aurora; 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-granchildren. Her husband George L., died in 1985. Her daughter, Barbara Anne, died in 1952; and son, George L., died in 2000.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Aurora. Burial will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Southfield, Mich., on Monday. Kindrich-McHugh Steinbauer Funeral Home of Solon is handling arrangements.

Margaret L. Bradbury, 90
ROOTSTOWN Margaret L. Bradbury, 90, died Thursday, May 17, 2001.
Born Jan. 14, 1911, in Scranton, Pa., she was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (McDonnell) Lavelle. She is formerly of Florida and Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Bradbury was a teacher for 41 years.
She was a member of St. Antonio Catholic Church of Port Charlotte, Fla.
Survivors include her son, Lee (Mary) of Rootstown; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Thomas Lavelle of Groveville, N.J.; and sister, Eileen Hopkins of Oakland, Calif. Her husband, Howard, to whom she was married 55 years, died in 1994. Her sisters, Mary and Claire, died previously.

Louise L. Kurtik, 73
Louise L. Kurtik, 73, of Ravenna died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born May 22, 1927, in Lamberton, Pa., she was the daughter of Martin Andrew and Blanche Sophia (Merchock) Kurtik. She moved to Ravenna three years ago after living in Lamberton and McClellandtown, Pa.
Miss Kurtik was a cashier/receptionist at Uniontown Hospital, Union Supply and Equitable Life Insurance, all in Pennsylvania.
She was a member of St. Procopius Roman Catholic Church in New Salem, Pa.
Survivors include sister her Carolyn (Paul) Marva of Ravenna; sister-in-law, Joanne Kurtik McDonald of Big Bear, Calif.; nephews, Paul (Laura) Marva Jr. of Rootstown, and Mark (Lydia) Kurtik of Llano, Calif.; and nieces, Beth (Marc) Orlando of Mason, Ohio, Diane (Charles) Wilson of Rootstown and Kristin Campbell of Oklahoma; seven great-nephews and six great-nieces. A brother, Joseph; and nephew, Jerome Kurtik, died previously.

Harold E. Montgomery, 62
DEERFIELD Harold E. Montgomery, 62, died Thursday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness.
Born Dec. 29, 1938, in Waynesburg, Pa.; he was the son of Harold W. and Pearl (Coss) Montgomery. He was a lifelong resident of Deerfield.
Mr. Montgomey was a member of Charity Masonic Lodge No. 530 and Palmy Chapter No. 144.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie (Lambes), to whom he was married 37 years; daughters, Rebecca of Deerfield, Michelle (Edward) De Remer of Charlestown, Glenna (Harold) Bruitt of Deerfield and Belinda (Jeremy) Sasala of Lake Milton; six grandchildren; mother and stepfather, Pearl and Roland Ruggles of Deerfield; brother, Robert (Ruthanne) of Edinburg; and sister, Tammy (Jack) Hopkins of Deerfield. His father; Harold W., and a sister, Sandra Rose, died previously.

Violet E. Ritenour
Violet E. Ritenour, 69, of Colebrook, Ohio, the sister of Paul Leigh of Ravenna, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown from complications following open heart surgery.
Born May 29, 1931, in St. Mary's, W.Va., she was the daughter of VanBuren and Bertha M. (Ashcraft) Leigh. Formerly of Braceville Township, she lived in Colebrook for the past five years.
Mrs. Ritenour was a homemaker.
She attended the First Congregational Church of Wayne.
She enjoyed cooking, crafts and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband, George D. Ritenour whom she married Nov. 4, 1950; son, Gary G. Ritenour of Colebrook; daughters, Kathy S. Farmwald of Colebrook and Sharon A. Francis of Clarks Mills, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Herbert Leigh of Barberton, Paul Leigh of Ravenna, and Cecil Leigh of Newton Falls; and sisters, Jean Salley of St. Mary's, W.Va., Patricia Leigh Stoll of Marshallville, Ohio, and Rita Russell of Warren. Her parents; brothers, Jack, Curtis, Harry and Forrest Leigh; and a sister, Freda Swaggert died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the First Congregational Church of Wayne where services will be held at noon on Friday with Revs. Robert and Lori Coleman officiating.

James M. Smalley
James M. Smalley, 60, of Newton Falls, died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
Born July 16, 1940, in Montgomery, Ala., he was the son of Wallace and Bessie (Bynan) Smalley. He had lived in Newton Falls most of his life and formerly resided in Windham.
Mr. Smalley had worked as a supervisor for WCI Steel for 30 years, retiring last year.
He enjoyed yard work and traveling.
Survivors include his sons, Richard W. and Robert J., both of Newton Falls; and four grandchildren. A brother, Wallace Jr., died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery.
Ralph Mack
STREETSBORO - Ralph Mack, 75, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a brief illness.
Born Oct. 24, 1925, in Cleveland, he had lived in Streetsboro since 1957.
Mr. Mack worked as a machinist at Jerpbak-Bayles in Solon.
He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Streetsboro.
Survivors include his wife, Ann, whom he married in 1948; daughter, Caroel Wolbert of Troy Mich.; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and sisters, Grace Tuttle of Garfield Heights and Genevieve Kodat of Parma. His brother, Kenneth, and sister, Virginia Barto, died previously.
Private graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro, with Msgr. Frederick Slaven officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel.

Harold L. Ranft Sr.
DEERFIELD - Harold L. Ranft Sr., 72, of 1693 Notman Road, died Tuesday, May 14, 2001, at his home.
Born Dec. 5, 1928, in Alliance, he was the son of Lawrence and Rhea (Light) Ranft.
Mr. Ranft was a truck driver with Roadway Trucking of Phoenix, Ariz.
Survivors include his sons, Larry, Harold and Russ, all of Phoenix; daughters, Rhea of Alliance and Susan Gates of Deerfield;11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and mother, Rhea of Alliance. His wife, Dotty (Burkey); and father, Lawrence, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home, 126 W. Vermont Ave., Sebring, where a memorial service will be held at 9 tonight.

Michael "Mike" Puzio
Michael "Mike" Puzio, 91, of Cuyahoga Falls died Tuesday May 15, 2001.
Born Feb. 12, 1910, in Yonkers, N.Y., he was the first son of Polish immigrants.
Mr. Puzio was a machinist and a real estate agent. He also was a laborer on the Hoover Dam Project in the 1930s.
He served under Gen. Douglas McArthur in the Philippines, where he was also a boxer. He knocked out the Pacific Fleet Champ in Manila and later he knocked out the Nevada State Champion in Las Vegas. He had 25 wins and one defeat in his career.
He was a member of the Polish National Alliance and a longstanding member of the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish.
Survivors include his grandchildren, Ray and Melanie Leone; four great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Mike (Mary) Chlysta, Charles (Betty) Chlysta; and Russel (Betty) Chlysta, all of Ravenna. V. Thomas Visher Jr.
V. Thomas Visher Jr., 57, of Ravenna, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at his home.
Born Jan. 6, 1944, in Ravenna, he was the son of Victor T. and Dorothy (Lewis) Visher Sr. He was a lifelong Ravenna resident.
Mr. Visher was a self-employed trucker.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna.
He was a United States Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include his sister, Becky Seredick of Broadview Heights; and companion, Sheila Craycroft of Ravenna.

Cynthia Jane (Grimm) Rogers
Cynthia Jane (Grimm) Rogers, 42, of Charlotte, N.C., the sister of three Portage County residents, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Mercy South Hospital in Charlotte.
Born Nov. 27, 1958, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Arthur Raymond and Shirley Ann (Halvorsen) Grimm.
Survivors include her husband, Darrell Gene; son, Robbie; daughters, Jessica and Erica; two grandchildren; brothers, David Grimm of Ravenna, Kevin Grimm of Streetsboro, Chuck Grimm of Akron and Larry Grimm of Charlotte, North Carolina; and sister, Becky Biltz of Streetsboro.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tyvola Church of God in Charlotte, with the Rev. Dennis Beam officiating. Visitation will be held immediately following the service. Inurnment will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson Memorial Park in Pittsburgh. Arrangements are being handled by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service in Charlotte.

Charles J. Yacavona
Charles J. Yacavona, 94, of Summit Road, Ravenna, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at his home.
Born May 9, 1907 in Wooster, he was the son of Emedio A. and Martha (Grazer) Yacavona.
Mr. Yacavona was the owner and operator of Yacavona Heating and Sheet Metal Co. He had previously worked at Gougler Industries for six years during World War II, worked at Kent Sheet Metal for nine years, and had apprenticed with the Erie Railroad.
Mr. Yacavona was an avid sportsman and a member of the Lake Milton Fish and Game Club, Twinsburg Sportsman Club, and Goodyear Sportsman Club.
Survivors include his daughter, Joy Radovic of Ravenna and Los Angeles; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. His wife, Nellie Mae (Cain) to whom he was married for 62 years, daughter, Bette Lea Yacavona, sisters, Eva Myers and Dorothy Moulton; uncle, Paul, a former Kent City councilman, and father, Emedio, a Kent policeman for three decades, all died previously.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Newman Center, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at Kent State University, the Rev. John Jerek officiating. Burial will be held in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Danny Workman
Danny Workman, 43, of Streetsboro and formerly of Mansfield, has died.
Born May 28, 1957, in Mansfield, he was the son of Tommy and Faye (Roberts) Workman. He lived in Streetsboro since 1987.
Mr. Workman coached girls softball in Streetsboro.
Survivors include his wife, Andrea (Perry) Workman whom he married July 21, 1985; daughters, Chandra Nicole Workman and Ashlee Nicole Turner, both at home; his parents; brother, Mark "Rob" Workman of Mansfield; and sister, Diana Logan of Mansfield.
Elinor A. Pesek
Former Aurora resident Elinor A. Pesek, 64, of Pinellas Park, Fla., died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in the Palm Garden of Largo Nursing Home in Largo, Fla., after a long illness.
Born June 4, 1936, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Paul and Frances (Okoren) Kainec. She had lived in Aurora for most of her life before moving to Florida in 1988.
Mrs. Pesek was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Aurora.
Survivors include her husband, Carl, of Pinellas Park, Fla.; son, Tom of Aurora; daughters, Sandra Dellasala of Pinellas Park, Fla., Kathy Oswald of Mantua and Judy Cole of Rocklin, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Frank of Largo, Fla., Bernard of Bedford and Paul of Cleveland; and sisters, Rosemary Mauer and Kathy Skok, both of Aurora.
There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation will take place Monday.
