Davey E. Fields
Davey E. Fields, 49, of Kent, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights of natural causes.
Born April 2, 1952, in Xenia, Ohio, he was the son of Eugene and Virginia D. Fields. He had lived in Kent since 1958.
Mr. Fields was the lead guitarist in his blues band, The Davey Fields Blues Band "DFB," which played in Kent, Cleveland, Akron, Georgia, Florida, and many other areas. He also was a former member of the well-known Numbers Band.
Survivors include his son, Marcus of California; one grandchild; mother and stepfather, Virginia D. and Frederick Garrette of Springfield, Ohio; brother, Claude Greenriver of Columbus; stepsisters Josie (Tyrone) Morrison and Dawanna Garrette, both of Wilmington, Ohio; and former wife, Pramila (Jonathan) Bird of Novelty, Ohio. His father, Eugene, and son, Dylan, died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are being handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel.
Marie Furgerson
Marie Furgerson, 70, of Ravenna, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a short illness.
Born Aug. 12, 1930, in Akron, she was the daughter of Floyd E. and Margaret (Hunter) Minor Sr. She lived in the Hiram and Twinsburg areas before moving to Ravenna in 1993.
Mrs. Ferguson was a shipping clerk at Spectrum Sports in Twinsburg until she retired in 1996. her
She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.
Survivors include sons, Mark of Garrettsville and James (Debi) of Ravenna; daughters, Sandra Justus of Streetsboro, Carol DiGrino of Streetsboro, Debbie Fahl of Mantua, Beverly (Bruce) Hall of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Linda (Mark) Patterson of Suwanee, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her mother, Margaret Minor of Ravenna; and brother, Floyd Minor Jr. of Ravenna. Her father, Floyd Minor died previously. A companion, Earl Jenkins, died in 1997.
Memorial calling hours will be held from 6 p.m. until memorial services at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, with the Rev. Ernest Surgener officiating.
Solomon K. Wilson
BRIMFIELD - Solomon K. Wilson, 75, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a period of failing health.
Born Oct. 22, 1925, in Salem, he was the son of Kemit and Naomi (Regal) Wilson. He had lived in the Ravenna area since 1961.
Mr. Wilson was the owner of Solomon Wilson Electric, where he also was an electrical contractor.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Unity Lodge No. 12 F & AM, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 46 in Ravenna, past High Priest of the Tyrian Chapter, Royal Arch Mason No. 91, past president of Portage, Summit and Medina KYCH Club, past commander of Bethany Commandry No. 72 in Ravenna, past Illustrious Master Council of Alliance, Knight of York Cross of Honor and Knight Templer.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean (Fortune), whom he married July 31, 1946; sons, Randal (Diane) of Ravenna and Kerry (Susan) of Texas; daughters, Cheryle (Ronald) Reitz of Brimfield and Dianna (Darcey) Brasel of Texas; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Phillip, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home in Ravenna, with Masonic services at 7:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Derrell Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.

Evelyn Dickerson
Evelyn Dickerson, a woman ahead of her time whose dedication to helping women and men look their best made her one of the best-known hairstylists in the Kent area, died Monday, April 9, 2001 at the Cleveland Clinic. She was 79.
Mrs. Dickerson opened her first beauty salon in Kent in the Campus Supply building on South Lincoln Street in 1953, at a time when few women owned businesses. In 1969, she built the salon on South Water Street that bears her name. She retired in 1988 after 34 years, when her daughter, Diane Roberts, took over the business.
She was a firm believer that appearance made a difference, that the way you presented yourself said a great deal about you, and worked hard to keep abreast of trends in hairstyling, beauty and fashion. She took pride in having some of the most prominent women and men in the Portage area among her clientele.
In addition to her South Water Street headquarters, over the years her business operation also included the Westview Salon on Kent's west side, the salon at Click in Stow and The Penthouse in Cuyahoga Falls.
Born April 29, 1921, in Terre Haute, Ind., she was the daughter of Andrew and Blanche (Stoddard) Templeton. She was a 1939 graduate of Sullivan (Indian) High School.
Mrs. Dickerson was a member of the United Methodist Church of Kent for 50 years and its Rachel Circle, Coterie I, the Chestnut Society and the Blue & Gold Club. She was also active in civic affairs and a member of Twin Lakes Country Club, ontinuing her membership after her husband, William, died. Her son, Brad, called her "vivacious and fun loving," and other friends recalled that being with her made every event a party. She also enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include her son, Brad (JoAnn) of Kent; daughter, Diane (Gary) Roberts of Kent; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Templeton of Punta Gorda, Fla.; sister, Barbara Hofiditz Holbrook of Winter Haven, Fla.; and close friend, Robert Collette. Her husband, William, died in 1996. A brother, Jack Templeton, and sister, Margaret Butler, died previously.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Kent, with the Rev. Kay Dunlap and the Rev. Dr. David A. Palmer officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.

Helen Mary Trivelli
Helen Mary Trivelli, 86, of Ravenna, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a long illness.
Born Dec. 22, 1914, in Newell, Pa., she was the daughter of Dominick and Carmilla (Bianci) Liberati. She had lived in the Ravenna area since 1929.
Mrs. Trivelli worked at the Brown Derby in Kent and retired in 1988 from Elite Restaurant in Ravenna.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include her sons, Henry (Christine) and John (Rosemary) both of Ravenna, eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Armando Colello of Tallmadge; sisters, Lena Chuifo of Ravenna, Josephine Bowers of Brimfield, Elizabeth Elio of Peninsula, Loretta Flood of Mentor and Edith Fiocca of Akron. Her husband, Peter, died in 1990. An infant daughter, Clara; brothers, Dominick and Tony; and sisters Margaret, Louise, Susan and Florence, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, with Msgr. Robert Sabatino officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Ravenna.

Sister M. Therese Clouser
Sister M. Therese Clouser, 91, who was superior and principal at Immaculate Conception School in Ravenna, died Monday, April 9, 2001 at Our Lady of the Elms Infirmary in Akron.
Born Martha Clouser, Sister Therese was in the 66th year of her religious profession in the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron.
She served at Immaculate Conception from 1955 to 1960. She also taught at several schools in the Akron and Youngstown areas, including St. Paul School in Akron, where she served as principal from 1960 to 1966 and from 1972 to 1974. She spent several years at St. Augustine School in Barberton before returning to Our Lady of the Elms, where she was a librarian at the high school until she retired in 1995.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a wake service at 4 p.m., at Our Lady of the Elms Convent, 1230 W. Market St., Akron, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Hummel Funeral Home in Akron handled arrangements.

Raymond J. Koran
Raymond J. Koran, 71, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., a former Portage area resident, died Sunday, March 25, 2001.
Mr. Koran was the son of the late Raymond and Rose Koran of Freedom.
Survivors include his sons, Michael R. of Destin, Fla., and William R. (Judy); one grandchild; one step-grandchild; and sister Bernice (Gerald) Smith of Ravenna. His wife, Evelyn (Hartman) died previously.
A memorial service will be held in Charlestown at a later date.
Evelyn Deunk, 86
Evelyn Deunk, 86, formerly of Kent, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Medina General Hospital in Medina. She was a three-year resident of Pearlview Nursing Home in Brunswick.
Born Jan. 28, 1915, in St. Thomas, Canada, she was a daughter of George W. and Iva Irene (Fuke) Titus.
Mrs. Deunk was a member of First Christian Church of Kent.
She was an avid espionage book reader.
Survivors include her son, Robert Jr. of Brunswick; daughters, Linda Giacomoni of Cuyahoga Falls, Karen Case of Austin, Texas, and Laurel Barchalk of Brimfield; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Robert Sr., died in 1992. Her brothers, Donald and Lloyd Titus, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Griggs officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Thomas R. Bugansky, 43
STREETSBORO - Thomas R. Bugansky, 43, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Meridia Southpoint Hospital in Warrensville Heights after a long illness.
Born April 13, 1957, in Cleveland, he was the son of Robert and Helen (Bodziony) Bugansky. He had lived in the Streetsboro and Shalersville areas since 1985.
Mr. Bugansky was employed in industrial maintenance for many years.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua.
He enjoyed fishing, tinkering with items at home and feeding and playing with his dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Karen (Gainer), whom he married Sept. 22, 1985; son, Christopher Heaton of Doylestown; daughter, Sarah, at home; father, Robert of Cleveland; brother, Robert (Kathy) of Oregon; and sisters, Norma Cramer and Roberta, both of Cleveland. His mother died in 1985. His brothers, Ralph and John, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua and from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua. The Rev. Thomas McCarthy will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.

Jose Pobadora, 81
SHALERSVILLE - Jose Pobadora, 81, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville.
Born March 17, 1920 in the Philippines, he had been a Ravenna resident since 1982.
Mr. Pobadora was self-employed as a fisherman until he retired.
Survivors include his daughters, Angelita Flowers of Shalersville and Narsisa Atkins of Oregon; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His wife, Cristita (Comigis) died in 1957.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours or services. Private burial will take place. Shorts Funera Homel, Ravenna Chapel, is handling arrangements.
Mary A. Forgus, 89
Mary A. Forgus, 89, of Ravenna, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Akron City Hospital.
Born Jan. 16, 1912, in Buxton, Iowa, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Gasper) Hresko. She was a life resident of Ravenna.
Mrs. Forgus was a homemaker. She also worked in food service at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include her husband, Steve, whom she married Sept. 26, 1942; sons, Jerry (Vivian) of Ravenna and Ronald (Barbara) of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; daughter, Nancy (Paul) Scoma of Princeton, Ill.; and six grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister died previously.

Anna T. Kucek, 79
Anna T. Kucek, 79, of Warren Road, Newton Falls, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, in Assumption Village, North Lima.
Born May 1, 1921, in Center Township, Pa., she was a daughter of Andrew and Mary Marie (Serbin) Yager.
Mrs. Kucek was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Newton Falls, where she started the Ladies Guild and was in charge of the church dinners. She was a member of the Senior Citizens and took the seniors on a tour to New Jersey. She started the colt and pony baseball leagues in 1963 and was on the parks and recreation board, and helped but in two baseball fields and bleachers.
Mrs. Kucek taught ceramics in her home and collected cups from all over the world, and Hummel figurines.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph A. Kucek, whom she married June 19, 1948; son, Jack (Janice) Kucek; daughters, Mrs. Art (JoAnne) Keffer and Mrs. Ed (Jo-Lene) Cooper, both of Newton Falls; 11 grandchildren; brother, John Yager of Newton Falls; sister, Mrs. James (Mary) Sanders of Newton Falls.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church in Newton Falls, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Helen Mary Trivelli, 86, of Ravenna died Sunday, April 8, 2001. Arrangements will be announced by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
Jack Mancos
Jack R. Mancos, 77, of Bryn Mawr Street, Ravenna, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born March 7, 1924 in Cleveland he was the son of Ross and Verea (Bunce) Mancos.
Mr. Mancos taught at Springfield High School where he was a football and baseball coach. He then taught at and retired from Ravenna High School. He played professional football in Canada.
He graduated from John Adams High School and Kent State University. He was a member of the Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and KSU Blue and Gold Club. He was a member of the charter class of the Varsity "K" KSU Hall of Fame.
He lettered in football while at KSU in 1949, 1950, and 1951 when he was the team captain. He also earned a letter in baseball in 1951.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a Lieutenant.
Survivors include his daughter, Stacy Devine of Cuyahoga Falls. His daughter, Kelly A. Mancos, died in 1972.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, with the Rev. Timothy Kenney officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Mary Roliff
Mary Catherine Roliff, 80, of Johnson Road, Kent, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Stow Glen Retirement Center.
Born July 27, 1920, in Randolph, she was the daughter of Daniel Brian and Eva Elizabeth (Royer) Miller.
Mrs. Roliff was proud to be a "Rosie the Riveter" at Twin Coach during World War II. She also worked at Monarch Rubber in Hartville and at Lamson-Sessions in Kent.
She formerly was a Campfire Leader, and a member of the Brimfield Grange. She was active in the community campaigning for civic issues and she was a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
She enjoyed animals, nature, music, reading, gardening, politics and current events.
Survivors include her daughters, Cynthia Gard-Given of Dallas, Texas, and Kimberly (David) Jozsa of Kent; two grandchildren; and sister, Helen Robertson of Barnesville. Her brother, James Miller and sister, Elsie Fillmore died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with Denny Just officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Brimfield, with Dick Robertson officiating.
