James H. "Bud" Cain, 83
FREEDOM - James H. "Bud" Cain Jr., 83, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a long illness.
Born Oct. 8, 1917 in Hamilton, he was the son of James and Della (Tickel) Cain Sr. He was a life resident of Freedom Township.
Mr. Cain worked as a foreman at Polson Rubber Co. in Garrettsville for 38 years, retiring in 1974. He also worked for many years at the family business, Cain & Sons Garage in Freedom.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, arriving in Morocco, North Africa in 1943. He was stationed in Italy, southern France and Germany before being discharged in October 1945. He earned the Bronze Star, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with six bronze stars and one bronze arrowhead and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Cain was a member of The Family of Jesus Fellowship Church in Ravenna. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Lula B. (Belknap), whom he married Nov. 16, 1946; daughter, Gloria M. Myers of Freedom; brothers, John, Harold (Martha) and Clyde (Alice), all of Freedom, Robert (Pat) of Hiram, Pete (Betty) of Ravenna, Lloyd of Nelson and Don McCort of New Mexico; and sister, Josie (Ned) Underhill of New Mexico. One brother and three sisters died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Samuel S. Goebel officiating. Burial will be in Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom Township.
Lester R. Hall, 76
Former Ravenna resident Lester R. Hall, 76, of Akron, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Akron City Hospital.
Born Jan. 17, 1925 in Calhoun County, W. Va., he was the son of Okie and Nancy (McCune) Hall. He had lived in Ravenna for 13 years before moving to Akron last year.
Mr. Hall was a tire builder at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron for 30 years before his retirement.
He was a member of St. Peter of the Fields Church in Rootstown.
Survivors include his sons, Ralph and Mike MacIntire, both of North Carolina, and Leslie Hall of Akron; daughters, Linda Drurey of Ravenna, Brenda Phillips of Cuyahoga Falls and Marianne Brown of North Canton; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Chester of West Virginia; and sisters, Jean Yost of Cambridge, Ohio and Ivy McCumber and Eloise White, both of West Virginia. His sisters, Essie Skiera, Delsie Spencer, Grace Cunningham and Geneiveve Henderson, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Thomas Crum officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter of the Fields Cemetery in Rootstown.
Linda S. Nolder, 51
Former Portage County resident Linda Sue Nolder, 51, of Akron, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at her home.
Born April 1, 1949 in Huntington, W.Va., she was the daughter of Dallas and Madline June (Adkins) Hettinger. She had lived in the Ravenna and Kent areas before moving to Akron two and a half years ago.
Mrs. Nolder was a disc jockey and the founder and owner of Angel's Gothic Sound Entertainment of Akron.
She was a member of Faith Temple Church of the Living God in Akron.
Survivors include her husband, Murl J.; daughters, Kimberlee S. Watts and Jamie A. Watts, both of Akron; and former husband, Keith Watts of Akron.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
Michael K. Tulley Sr., 50
RANDOLPH - Michael Kenneth Tulley Sr., 50, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born May 24, 1950 in Akron, he was the son of Blonda and Elizabeth (McPherson) Tulley. He had lived in Stow before moving to Randolph three years ago.
Mr. Tulley was the owner of Artistic Welding in Kent.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa E. (Crites); son, Michael Jr. of Randolph; daughter, Connie (Keith) Henline of Springfield; one grandchild; mother, Elizabeth of Stow; and sister, Cindie White of Randolph. His father; a granddaughter; brothers, William and Curtis; and sister, Barbara Christ, died previously.

Edwin R. Terrill, 89, of Ravenna, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.

Gladice Smalley-May
Gladice Smalley-May, 68, of Green died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in Akron.
Born March 4, 1932 in New Kensington, Pa., she was the daughter of Boyd Sarvey and Catherine Thiel.
Mrs. Smalley-May was an astrologer.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; sons, Richard Bower, Boyd Weber, Larry Weber, Charles Weber and David Weber; daughters, Judy Bower and Christine Hochevar; stepdaughters, Melanie, Pam and Tammy May; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Sarvey and sisters, Pearl Stearns and Catheryn Sproull.

Ruth Anna Kline
Ruth Anna Kline, 90, of Cherry Street, Kent, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro.
Born July 12, 1910 in Kent, she was the daughter of George H. and Matilda E. (Elmerick) Kline.
Miss Kline worked in the salad department of the Kent State University kitchen.
She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent.
Survivors include her brothers, Ralph of Tallmadge and Howard of Kent; and sister, Esther Halalko of North Canton. Her brothers, Ernest and Raymond, and sisters, Helen O'Brien, Stella Long and Mildred Pennington, died previously.

John David McClure
John David McClure, 41, of Ravenna, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Feb. 14, 1960, in Whitesville, W.Va., he was the son of Denver and Glenna (Brown) McClure. He had lived in Ravenna for 22 years.
Mr. McClure was a laborer with Lite Metals Co. in Ravenna.
Survivors include his sons, John Jr. and Colton Michael, both of Ravenna; daughter, Morgan Christine of Ravenna; mother, Glenna Pellegrini of Ravenna; brother, George (Cathy) of Akron; sisters, Donna Stover of Florida, Cheryl (Wayne) McClure of Florida, Janie (J.F.) Thompson of Akron and Dreama (Cleve) Daughertery of West Virginia; stepbrothers, Kevin and Scott Whetsell of Ravenna; stepsister, Marjorie Thompson of Mogadore; and fiancée, Rinda Collins.

Norma Jeanne (Herrick) Kaminski
Former Kent resident Norma Jeanne (Herrick) Kaminski, 70, of 19455 Rockside Road, Bedford, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 at Mount Alverna Home in Parma.
Born Aug. 22, 1930 in Akron, she was the daughter of Marion and Margaret Mary (Kaley) Herrick. She was reared in Kent.
Mrs. Kaminski had been a registered nurse at Brentwood Hospital in Warrensville Heights.
Survivors include her sons, Mark (Carrie), Steven and John; daughters, Ann (John) Caldwell, Mary Beth (John) Laurita, Joanne (Scott) Delollis and Donna (Joseph) Londrico; 15 grandchildren; brother, James Michael Herrick; and sister, Kathleen (Robert) Rankin. Her husband, Alfred A., died previously.

Olive "Peggy" Fowler
A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West, Ariz. for Olive "Peggy" Fowler who died Sunday, Feb. 25, in Sun West City, Ariz.
Mrs. Fowler, 81, spent the majority of her life in Ravenna where her husband, Jack, was the pharmacist-owner of Fowler Drug Co. She and her husband had retired to Sun West City in the 1980s.
Born in Cuyahoga Falls on March 9, 1919, Mrs. Fowler was a trained secretary, but devoted herself full-time to being a home-maker for her husband and daughter, Jeannie Fowler Donie. She also treasured the company of her two grandsons, Jonathan and Benjamin Donie.
Mrs. Fowler was an accomplished seamstress and an avid reader. She enjoyed arts and crafts. In Sun City West, she and Mr. Fowler were members of the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church.
In addition to her immediate family, Mrs. Fowler is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Russell Rednour, formerly of Sun City West, Ariz. and her nephew and niece, Dr. Tom and Carolyn Lutz of Carefree, Ariz.
A brief reception, followed by inurnment, will be held at the conclusion of the ceremony. The family asks that memorial contributions be forwarded to the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, the American Heart Association or a charity of one's choice.
Charles W. "Chuck" Lindon
STREETSBORO - Charles W. "Chuck" Lindon, 66, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Akron City Hospital.
Born June 12, 1934, in Belmont City, Ohio, he was the son of John W. and Rosa Lee (Heriges) Rose Lindon. He had lived in Akron before moving to Streetsboro in 1972.
Mr. Lindon was a hi-lo driver for Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg until he retired.
He was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard and a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro. He enjoyed horseracing and the lottery.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene (Stefansky), to whom he was married 34 years; sons, John of Akron and Charles "Chuck" of Ravenna; daughter, Cathy Blankenship of Brimfield; five grandchildren; and brother, Kenneth (Lucy) of Garrettsville.

Ray A. Nist
Ray A. Nist, 75, of Ravenna, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born May 8, 1925 in Canton, he was the son of Raymond and Helen (Snow) Nist. He had lived in Canton before moving to Ravenna in 1988.
Mr. Nist was co-owner of Kent Lighting Center and retired in 1995. He had been in the electrical business for 50 years.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He was a member and Elder of Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton, a member of Masonic Lodge A. & F.M. No. 60 of Canton and the Kent Lions Club and was a volunteer for Portage County Hospice.
Survivors include his wife, Blodwyn (Boyer), to whom he was married for 56 years; daughters, Paula (Robert) Smethers, Christine (C.S.) Testa, Roberta (Steven) Stocker and Janet (Larry) Nicol; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Eylene (Charles) Cobb, Mary (Andy) Boomhower and Patricia Boomhower.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to a 2 p.m. memorial service Friday at Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 Tuscarawas Ave. in Canton. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are being handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

William R. Harvey
Former Kent resident William R. Harvey, 74, of Hinckley, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001.
Born March 25, 1926, in Kent, he was the son of Carl and Viola Harvey.
Mr. Harvey was a mechanical engineer for Lamson & Sessions and Pride Machine Products and Milbar Corp.
He also was a member of the Hinckley Zoning Board for many years and a Hinckley Township trustee from 1976 to 1981. He helped establish the Hinckley Police Department and was active in Little League and Boy Scouts.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed reading, working on home construction projects, trout fishing and studying World War II history and family genealogy. He also holds patents for a nailing machine and a tape recorder.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, to whom he was married 51 years; son, Robert C. (Debbie) of Annandale, N.J.; daughter, Lynn of Mantua; two grandchildren; and sister, JoAnne (James) Anderson of Wisconsin.

Arthur "Chip" Hunsicker
Arthur "Chip" Hunsicker, 53, of 3375 Mahoning Road, Lake Milton, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at his home.
Born Aug. 2, 1947 in Ravenna, he was the son of Arthur and Elizabeth (Andrajka) Hunsicker. A 1965 graduate of Southeast High School, he had been a resident of Lake Milton for 30 years.
Mr. Hunsicker was a truck repairman at the General Motors Metal Fabricating Plant in Lordstown since 1970.
He was a charter member of Annual Local 1714 where he was a former recording secretary and was also a member of Trustee Local 1714. He was active in the Classic Car Show and CAP Council of United Auto Workers. He was a former Little League coach for the Palmyra Hot Stove League.
A U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1967 to 1970, he was a member of American Legion Post No. 737 in Lake Milton.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Hart), whom he married Aug. 12, 1967; son, Christopher, at home; daughters, Holly of North Canton and Shannon of Cortland; father, Arthur of Diamond; and sisters, Patricia of Lake Milton and Frances of Diamond. His mother died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, where services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Faye I. Moorhead
WINDHAM - Faye I. Moorhead, 66, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness.
Born Sept. 24, 1934 in St. George, W.Va., she was the daughter of Henry and Flarnie (Kimble) Mick.
Mrs. Moorhead was employed in food services for Town & Country Smorgasbord in Canton for 23 years, retiring in 1983.
She attended Living Water Fellowship Church at Ridge Ranch. She liked needlepoint and ceramics and collected spoons and music boxes.
Survivors include her son, Gary at home; brothers, Albert (Julia) Mick of Whitmore Lake, Mich. and Henry (Karen) Mick of McClellandtown, Pa.; sisters, Phyllis (Wayne) Hall of Garrettsville, Laura (James) Ellis of McClellandtown, Pa., Ruth Tressa of Schiller Park, Ill.; and sister-in-law, Roberta (Gary) Rainsburg of Massillon. Her husband, Charles, whom she married July 24, 1964, died Aug. 30, 1995. Her sisters, Joan Lantz and Arvonda Palko, died previously.

Edna K. Thomas
Edna K. Thomas, 96, of Ravenna Township, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls.
Born Oct. 8, 1904 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Otto and Rose Kaupinen.
Mrs. Thomas was a teacher in the Southeast School District in 1975 until she retired in 1975.
Survivors include her son, Howard of Newton Falls; daughters, Jean Manlove of Chagrin Falls and Phyllis Schenkkan of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Alma Raber of Barberton.
There will be no calling hours. Private graveside services were held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Arrangements were handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Martha Mary Baker
BRIMFIELD - Martha Mary Baker, 80, of Neville Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Kent Healthcare Center.
Born Feb. 25, 1921, in Crafton, Pa., she was the daughter of William and Lillian (Miller) Donnelly.
An accomplished artist, she enjoyed singing with "Tony's Angels" in Kent.
Survivors include her husband, Cloyd, to whom she was married 57 years; and cousins, Cleon Willard and Erma Switzer, both of Brimfield.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were made by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.

Scott Anthony Olson
MANTUA - Scott Anthony Olson, 27, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at his home following an 18-month illness due to cancer.
Born April 26, 1973, in Garfield Heights, he was the son of Anthony and Carol (Bundy) Olson. A Mantua resident since 1998, he previously was a lifelong Streetsboro resident. He was a 1991 graduate of Streetsboro High School.
Mr. Olson had been employed at Chrysler Mopar in Streetsboro in parts distribution since 1999.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Tiffany (Schultz), whom he married Sept. 7, 1996; son, Tyler at home; parents, Anthony and Carol of Streetsboro; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gralewski of Eastlake; twinsisters, Janett Bolyard of Streetsboro and Janice of Twinsburg, sisters, Kim Savel of Bainbridge and Toni (Keith) Sangston of Cuyahoga Falls; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Brent and Cathi Schultz of Streetsboro.

Kenneth A. "Mac" McGregor
Kenneth A. "Mac" McGregor, 75, of Kent died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at home.
Born Sept. 4, 1925, in Fleming, Ohio, he was the son of Andrew Noble and Lulu E. (Lane) McGregor. He lived in Vincent, Ohio, before moving to Kent 50 years ago.
Mr. McGregor was an expediter with Park Ohio of Kent until he retired. He was employed more recently with Acme in Stow, where he worked in the jewelry department.
He was U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine (Brady); son, Kenneth A. Jr. of Kent; brothers, Miles of Vincent, and Keith of Rinard Mills, Ohio; and sisters, June Porter of North Canton, Helen Lynch of Barlow, Ohio, Emma Lou Welch of Columbus, and Virginia Combs and Doris Reed, both of Marietta.
There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place. Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel is handling arrangements.
