Georgetta M. Cobun
Georgetta M. Cobun, 81, of Silver Oaks Place, Kent, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born June 30, 1919, in Elkins, W.Va., she was the daughter of Harry and Ethel (McCroby) Jackson.
Mrs. Cobun was a stock clerk for the West Virginia University Chemistry Department for 20 years. She was a member of Morgantown United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Herbert (Dee) of Kent; daughter, Judith Cobun Crain of Glendale, W.Va.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Doris Jean (C.J.) Estep of Stow. Her husband, Herbert; daughter, Carol Harper; brother, Harry Jackson Jr.; and sisters, Isabel Lerch, Elaine Alspaugh, Margaret Nine, Maxine Patterson and Virgina Hill, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. John McIntyre officiating. Graveside services will be held at noon Thursday at Beverly Hill Memorial Gardens in Morgantown, W.Va.
Louise Allman
Former Diamond resident Louise Allman, 80, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born April 4, 1920 in East St. Louis, Ill., she was the daughter of James and Ella Anderson. She had lived most of her life in the Portage County area.
Mrs. Allman was a homemaker.
She served as chairman for two years with the March of Dimes and was a founding member and gold member of the Edwin Adams American Legion Auxiliary in Waldorf, Md.
Survivors include her sons, Kenny and Myron; sisters, Millie Ryan and Janet Baker; and many nephews and nieces. Her husband, Kenneth, died March 5, 1994. Brothers, Charles, Jim, Bill and Dutch Anderson; and sisters, Christine Garrett and Mary Elizabeth Russell, died previously.
Cremation has taken place. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Private inurnment will be held at West Cemetery in Palmyra.

Scott Anthony Olson
MANTUA - Scott Anthony Olson, 27, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at his residence following an illness.
Born April 26, 1973, in Garfield Heights, he was the son of Anthony and Carol (Bundy) Olson. A Mantua resident since 1998, he previously had been a lifelong Streetsboro resident.
Mr. Olson had been employed at Chrysler Mopar in Streetsboro in parts distribution since 1999.
A 1991 graduate of Streetsboro High School, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Tiffany (Schultz) Olson, whom he married on Sept. 7, 1996; a son, Tyler at home; his parents of Streetsboro; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gralewski of Eastlake; sisters, Janett Bolyard of Streetsboro, Janice Olson of Twinsburg, Kim Savel of Bainbridge and Toni (Keith) Sangston of Cuyahoga Falls; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Brent and Cathi Schultz of Streetsboro.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Samuel S. Goebel officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Mantua.
Dale Richard Ramsey
GARRETTSVILLE - Dale Richard Ramsey, 60, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.
Born June 5, 1940, in Homestead, Pa., he was the son of Arthur and Esther (Porter) Ramsey. A Portage County resident for most of his life, he had lived in Garrettsville since 1958.
Mr. Ramsey taught at ATES Technical School and was self-employed through Docks Appliance Repair as an appliance repairman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a radar operator. He loved fishing and reading.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Lee Ramsey of Garrettsville; a son, Michael Ramsey of Wadsworth; daughters, Ms. Roxan Ramsey of Windham and Mrs. Ray (Brenda) Glover of Mesopotamia; three grandchildren; a brother, William Ramsey of Flowermound, Texas; sisters, Marjorie (Bruce) Kyte of Bassinger, Fla., Kathleen (Edwin) Winch, Jr. of Holliday, Fla., Cherryl (Philip) Reiterman of Virginia Beach, Va. and Barbara (Robert) Kenyon of McLeansville, N.C.
Calling hours will be held at noon Tuesday at The First Church of God in Newton Falls. Services will follow at 1 p.m. in the church. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville. Arrangements are being handled by James Funeral Home, Inc. in Newton Falls.
Margaret Dodd Jennings
Margaret Dodd Jennings, 66, of Brookhaven, W. Va., died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at Mon Point Continuing Care Center in Morgantown, W. Va.
She was born March 7, 1934, in Shinnston, W. Va.
Mrs. Jennings was employed as a secretary at the Mountaineer Travel Council and was a volunteer for the Christian Help. She was a member of the Harvest Church of God in Morgantown.
Survivors include her sons, Harold E. (Val) Casseday of Ravenna, Richard E. (Kathy) Dodd of Streetsboro and William M. (Mary) Dodd of Morgantown; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Shirley) Milush of Westover and Bradley (Bonnie) Milush of Harmony Grove, W. Va.; a sister, Marlene Holcomb of Windham.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown, W.Va. Services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Eddie Noel officiating.

William Raymond Lightner
William Raymond Lightner, 64, of Warren, died of cancer Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at his home.
Born Oct. 17, 1936 in Altoona, Pa., he was the son of Raymond W. and Marian Catherine (Murray) Lightner. Formerly of Lorain, he had been a resident of Warren for 25 years.
Mr. Lightner attended Lorain High School and served a five-year apprenticeship as a plumber.
He was a plumber for General Motors in Lordstown from 1954 to 1964 and was a journeyman pipefitter for General Motors from 1964 to 1988. He retired in 1989.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Lightner was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 1112 and was a past commander of the Army Navy Club No. 283 in Warren. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed all sports and watching television.
Survivors include his daughters, Linda Ann Sims of Sheffield Lake and Lisa Ann Lightner of Warren; step-sons, Marvin (James) Pugh of Newton Falls and Franklin D. Scott of Braceville; step-daughters, Louisa Jerina of Newton Falls and Kathy Jerina of Madison Heights, Va.; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Thomas Edward of Farmington, New Mexico; and sisters, Judy Ann Amato of Glendale, Ariz. and Geraldine Gergely and Jane E. Nelson, both of Lorain. His wife, Lora Bernice (Tenney), whom he married Aug. 6, 1988, died Oct. 21, 2000. A step-son, Mark (Richard) Pugh, also died previously.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to 11 a.m. funeral services Thursday at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Braceville Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3332 in Newton Falls.

Richard R. Martin
Richard R. Martin, 85, of Nelson Township, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001.
Born Jan. 18, 1916 in Cleveland, he was the son of James and Mary (Klanitter) Martin.
Mr. Martin was self-employed as a painter.
Survivors include his sons, Thomas and Richard; daughter, Mary Ann; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His sister, Sister Mary Ann, O.S.U., died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Brickman & Sons Funeral Home, 21900 Euclid Ave., Euclid, where services will follow at 5 p.m.
Elva A. Adams
Elva A. Adams, 80, of West Farmington, Ohio, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 at her home following a long illness.
Born Sept. 25, 1920 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of George and Jessie (Harris) Simpson.
Mrs. Adams was a social worker for Warren Social Services.
She was an avid artist and painter and enjoyed ceramics. She was an avid Cleveland Browns and football fan and loved anything relating to family, especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. Adams was honored as "Mother of the Year" for the Multiple Sclerosis Association in 1992.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd G. Sr., whom she married July 25, 1964; sons, Douglas Blakenship and James Adams, both of Highland Hills, Floyd Jr. of Cleveland and Claude of Columbus; daughters, Marie Fortson of Ravenna, Diane Bradford of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Elaine B. Dansby of Bedford Heights, Cheryl James of Cleveland, Eloise Norwood Umbles of Toledo and Sheron of University Heights; 23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; brothers, Nathaniel and Harrison Simpson, both of Cleveland; and sisters, Vivian Jennings, Juanita MacPherson and Georgetta Smith, all of Cleveland. A daughter, Linda Derricoatte, died previously.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to 1 p.m. funeral services Tuesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.
James R. Dexter
James R. Dexter, 90, of Ravenna, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001.
Born Jan. 25, 1911 in Akron, he was the son of James C. and Emily J. (Landis) Dexter.
Mr. Dexter was a member of the American Legion of Ravenna.
Survivors include his wife, Garnett (Donhue), to whom he was married 19 years; sons, Bob of Ravenna and Ronny of Florida; daughter, Evelyn Tipton of Cuyahoga Falls; six stepchildren;seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. His brothers, Harold and William, died previously.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until services at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Maple Grove Cemetery Chapel in Ravenna. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Arrangements are being handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Patricai Kay (Patter) Bradley, 51
Patricia Kay (Patter) Bradley, 51, of Alliance, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at her residence.
Born April 29, 1949, in Alliance, she was the daughter of James and Marcy (Balduzzi) Patter. She was a lifelong resident of the Alliance area.
Mrs. Bradley was a teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas for 30 years. She had been serving as the Department Chairman of the English Department and Junior Class Moderator.
A previous recipient of the Teacher of the Month award, she was a member of the National Catholic Education Association and a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church in Alliance.
A 1968 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Canton, she received her bachelor of science degree in Education at Mount Union College in 1971. She was an affiliate of the Alpha Delta Phi Sorority.
Survivors include her sons, Jeff of Alliance and Tim at home; daughter, Jenny Bradley at home; her parents of Alliance; brother, Jeff Patter of Columbus; and a sister, Kim Gatien of North Canton.
Services have taken place. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Alliance.

Frank C. Bonkowski
Frank C. Bonkowski, 84, of Troy Township, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Briar Hill Nursing Home in Middlefield, following a period of failing health.
Born Oct. 18, 1916, in Cleveland, he was the son of Alex and Frances (Marcysiak) Bonkowski. He was a resident of Troy Township since 1960.
Mr. Bonkowski had been employed as a truck driver for Teamsters Local #436 in Cleveland for over 40 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a former member of Our Lady of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Cleveland. He grew up in Cleveland and was a graduate of South High School. He enjoyed reading in his spare time.
Survivors include his sons, Bruce F. Bonkowski of Hiram and Ronald (Kathleen) Bonkowski of Stow; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His wife, Frances (Fetzer) died in 1977. Three brothers also died previously.
Memorial calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua. Cremation will take place.
John C. Goretti, 76
John C. Goretti, 76, of Kent, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001.
He was born Oct. 8,1924.
Mr. Goretti worked as a self-employed flooring contractor.
Stricken with polio at the age of 6, he defied the odds and lived life to its fullest. He built radio-controlled airplanes as a hobby and was insistent on doing things "the Italian way." He was a member of Portage Aero Modelers Club, Corsair Model Aircraft Club, S.A.M. No. 39 and the National Free Flight Society.
Survivors include his daughters, Lee Ann (Ronald) Robinson of North Canton, Susan Lee (Rick) Cerett of Kent and Sally Lee (Kevin) Kramer of Carrollton; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and friend, Sue Malensek of Akron. His three brothers and a sister died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Jack Panther officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.
Edith M. Workman, 64
Edith M. Workman, 64, of Braceville, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at home following a lengthy illness.
Born May 12, 1936, in Newton Falls, she was the daughter of George and Lena (Painter) Harvey. She was a lifelong Braceville resident.
Mrs. Workman was a sales representative at Sears in Niles. She previously had been employed at the Ravenna Arsenal.
She enjoyed reading, bingo and fishing.
Survivors include her sons, George E. Jr. of Braceville and Steve A. of Warren; daughters, Mary L. Brewer of Newton Falls and Lena J. Payne of Champion; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Claire Harvey of Oklahoma and Roy Harvey of Newton Falls; and sisters, Lena Martz of Newton Falls and Twanda Sheely of Warren. Her brothers, Frank, George and Harry Arthur Harvey, died previously.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Braceville Township Cemetery. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls is handling arrangements.

Jim Fetters
Jim Fetters, 50, who became a familiar figure for many Portage area residents when he was a staff photographer for the Record-Courier in the 1970s, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at his home in Annapolis, Md., where he had suffered a blood clot in the lung.
Mr. Fetters was an editor for Agence France-Presse, an international photo service based in Washington, D.C.
Born July 4, 1950 in Toledo, he began taking photographs when he was a student at Kent State University and joined the Record-Courier staff in 1970 when he was 19 years old. Among his first assignments was coverage of the events of May 4, 1970 at KSU.
He earned a reputation as a talented, hard-working professional who was adept at covering spot news assignments but also excelled at feature photography. His friendly, outgoing manner - marked by a dry wit and an engaging conversational style - made him a favorite of many he encountered on his professional rounds throughout the Portage area.
After leaving the Record-Courier in 1979, he worked for United Press International in Cleveland and the Pittsburgh Press, then moved to the UPI photo desk in Washington in 1985. He joined Agence France-Presse in 1990.
In addition to photography, he was a voracious reader, baseball fan, avid sailor, collector of antique memorabilia and a cat lover.
Survivors include one brother, one sister and a stepmother.
Arrangements for a memorial service are pending.
Hazel L. Weaver
Hazel L. Weaver, 88, of Brady Lake Road, Ravenna, died Wed., Feb. 21, 2001 at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville.
Born Dec. 6, 1912 in Kent, she was the daughter of Eli Fay and Mabel (Diezman) Jones. She was a member of the Portage County Historical Society, Christ Episcopal Church in Kent, Kent Grange and Dames of Malta.
Survivors include her daughter, Jacqueline Woodring of Ravenna; two grandchuldren; and one great-grandchild. Her husband, Dudley, died in 1984. Her sister, Ethel Mayer, died previously.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church in Kent, with the Rev. David Mathus officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Undercroft of the church. Private burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Arrangements are being handled by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.

Dorothy E. Holland
Dorothy E. Holland, 78, of Ravenna, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at the Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born Jan. 8, 1923, in Windham Township, she was the daughter of Arthur and Georgia (Fisher Dole) Waite. She was a life resident of Portage County.
Mrs. Holland was a spindle operator at the Cleveland Worsted Mills in Ravenna, and also worked at Clark's Pharmacy and Fowler's Drug Store.
She was a member of Women of the Moose.
Survivors include her sons, Royce (Linda) of Ravenna and Ted (Louise) of Brady Lake; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Martha (George) Leet Barker of Freedom. Her brothers, Ralph, Robert and Charles, died previously.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Bilsza officiating. Burial will be in Windham Township Cemetery.
