Eugene Grimm, 77
Eugene D. "Geno" Grimm, 77, of Silver Oaks Drive, Kent, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
Born Dec. 19, 1923 in Brightwood, Ohio, he was the son of Victor and Margaret (Walton) Grimm.
Mr. Grimm retired as the manager of the Kent State University Golf Course.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover, the United Church of Christ of Kent, New Philadelphia Elks, Kent Kiwanis, American Legion and KSU Blue and Gold Club.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
A Kent State University alumnus, he was on the KSU golf team in 1946.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. "Betsy" Krebs, whom he married Dec. 28, 1946; son Todd (Joy) of Stow; daughter Linnea (Patrick) Ray of Kent; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His brother, Garnett; sister, Madge VonKennel; father, Victor Grimm; mother, Margaret Gordon; and stepfather, Charles Gordon, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Patrick Russell officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dover Burial Park in Dover.

Arthur Kuhner, 91
Dr. Arthur Kuhner, 91, of S.R. 43, Twin Lakes, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born April 20, 1909 in Brooklyn, N.Y, he was the son of Henry and Gizela (Silberdraught) Kuhner.
Dr. Kuhner earned his doctorate in dental science from Western Reserve University Dental School in 1935. He practiced dentistry at the Statler Hotel and Rose Building in Cleveland for 45 years. He was editor of the Journal of the American Society of Psychosomatic Density. His articles were published in the British Journal of Medical Hypnotism and the Journal of the American Dental Association.
He was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, president of the Cleveland Hypnosis Society and chair of the Board of Directors for the American Council on Dental Hypnosis in Cleveland.
Survivors include his son, Thomas of Sanborton, N.H.; daughter Dr. Susan Kuhner of Twin Lakes; and one grandson. His wife, Mary (Franklin) died in 1986. His son, John, died in 1984, and brothers Ted, Robert, Lee, and Joseph; sister Mary Sharpe and mother-in-law Nettie Trommer Franklin all died previously.
Services will be private. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. Arrangements were made by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.
Doris Bartholdi, 72
GARRETTSVILLE - Doris M. Bartholdi, 72, died suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Feb. 22, 1928 in Devils Lake, North Dakota, she was the daughter of Abraham and Deliah May (Lazmader) Azure. She had lived in Windham before moving to Garrettsville 11 years ago.
Mrs. Bartholdi was a homemaker.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, shopping and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Maynard, whom she married May 23, 1964; sons, Michael (Paula) of Windham and Mark and Maynard Jr., both of Ravenna; and five grandchildren. One grandchild died previously.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to noon services Saturday at Mallory-DeHaven Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, officiated by the Rev. Fred Bell.
Allan Hackbart, 58
AURORA - Allan Hackbart, 58, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, where he apparently had a heart attack.
Born July 29, 1942 in Cleveland, he was the son of Edwin and Evelyn (Latsko) Hackbart. He had lived in Aurora nearly his entire life, except for the five years he lived in Hawaii after graduating from Aurora High School.
Mr. Hackbart grew up working for his father in the family's general store and became a volunteer for the Aurora Fire Department, where his father had been chief. He most recently worked for Tool and Die Engineering Co. in Solon.
He enjoyed flying and earned his pilot license shortly after high school. He enjoyed animals and assisted the Aurora Veterinarian Clinic.
Survivors include his brother, Dale of Plano, Texas; and three nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at The Church in Aurora. Arrangements are being handled by the Kindrich-Mchugh Steinbauer Funeral Home in Solon.

James Nutter, 68
AURORA James Arthur Nutter, 68, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Valley View Nursing Home in Akron.
Born April 12, 1932, in Russellville, W.Va., he was the son of Emerson and Lettie (Miller) Nutter. Formerly of Millersburg, Ohio, and Hines, W.Va., he had lived in Aurora since 1969.
Mr. Nutter was a coal miner with the Lift Fork Coal Co., in Nallen, W.Va.
He was a member of the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Aurora.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Angle), to whom he was married 47 years; sons, Lancy (Angela) and James A. Jr. (Linda), both of Hiram; daughter, Cindy (Allen) Kelley of Aurora; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Alfonzo of Quinwood, W.Va.; and sisters, Jessie Tyree of Richwood and Flossie Dorsey of Sommersville, W.Va. One brother and four sisters died previously.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, with the Rev. Jesse Angle officiating. Visitation also will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle, W.Va. Burial will be in Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Rainelle.
Harry Russell, 84
Harry E. Russell, 84, of Richwood, Nicholas County, W.Va. died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Richwood Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1916, in Richwood, he was the son of Joseph and Ewart (Cooke) Russell. He had lived in Ravenna, then returned to Richwood.
Mr. Russell retired from Rockwell International in Newton Falls with 26 years of service.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He attended Hinkle Mountain United Methodist Church in Richwood.
Survivors include his wife, Paula (Wolford); son, Joseph of Ravenna; and foster sons, Gary Wolford of Atwater and Charlie Wolford of Gilbert, Ariz.
Calling hours will be held from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hinkle Mountain United Methodist Church in Richwood. White Funeral Home at Richwood is handling arrangements.
Frank Hawkins Jr.
Frank Hawkins Jr. died Thursday, Jan 18, 2001, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky where he had been a resident since February 2000.
Mr. Hawkins was a retired salesman.
He served in the Navy during World War II as a storekeeper.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, two whom he was married 40 years; children, Guy, Dawn, Sharon, Robert, David, Pamela, Jay, Lee, Lesly, Patti and Sally; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Aurora Mennonite Church in Aurora.

Former Ravenna resident Ruth Strahl, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001. Services will be announced by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
Mary Jane Gregory
Mary Jane Gregory, 86, of Cleveland, the mother of Phyllis (Sam) Cory of Mantua, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001.
Mrs. Gregory was a cook at Mayfield High School until she retired.
In addition to Mrs. Cory, survivors include her son, Roger of Cleveland; daughters, Frances Fremont (Roger) Marshall of Spearfish, South Dakota and Leona Louise (Dick) Gang of Tarpon Springs, Fl.; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a sister. Her husband, Garl; a grandson; four brothers; and five sisters all died previously.
Arrangements are being handled by Maher Melbourne Funeral Home, 4274 Mayfield Road, South Euclid.
Francis A. Stoerkel
Former Ravenna resident Francis A. Stoerkel, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at his home in Miami, Fla.
Born in Ravenna in 1927, he was the son of Alfred and Beatrice Stoerkel.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; son, David; daughters, Carol, Joan and Beatrice, all of Florida; and brother, Joseph (Abby) of Ravenna.
Cremation has taken place.
Richard F. Evans
Former Nelson resident Richard F. Evans, 90, of Mesopotamia, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.
Born Sept. 20, 1910, in Nelson, he was the son of Frederick and Emma (Sweet) Evans. He was a resident of Fla. from 1965 to 1995, but spent the rest of his years in the Nelson area.
Mr. Evans had been self-emplyed as an auto mechanic in the Garrettsville-Nelson area and in Fla. as well.
He enjoyed woodworking and reading. He was a graduate of Nelson High School.
Survivors include his daughter, Judith Peppeard of Mesopotamia; step-son, Charles Zanda of Hartsville, Ala.; Step-daughter, Jenine Ewert of Ft. Myers, Fla.; brother, Guy Evans of Warren. His brothers, Archie, Bob, Jim, David, Roger and Clark; and sister, Dorothy Harmon died previously.
No calling hours or services will be held. Cremation will take place. Russell Funeral Service of Middlefield is handling arrangements.
Doris Bartholdi
GARRETTSVILLE - Doris Bartholdi, 72, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at her residence. Arrangements will be handled by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville.
Patricia I. Wriston
Patricia I. Wriston, 70, of Ravenna, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 at her home.
Born Aug. 18, 1930, in Arab, Ala., she was the daughter of Doyle and Odell (Waldrop) Robinson. She had lived in Ravenna since 1957.
Mrs. Wriston was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Ravenna American Legion Auxiliary No. 331.
Survivors include her son, Robert A. Gilley of Ravenna; daughters, Kathy Green of Newville, Ala., and Debbie Long of Ravenna; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five brothers; and three sisters. Her husband, Dillis "Mike" Wriston, died in 1995.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Debbie Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
Marie A. Price
STREETSBORO - Marie A. Price, 79, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro.
Born Nov. 1, 1921, in Belmont, Ohio, she was the daughter of Walter and Rachel (Wildes) Truax. She had been a Streetsboro resident since 1950.
Mrs. Price had been employed as a maintenance worker for Creative Label in Aurora.
Survivors include her husband, George, whom she married in 1941; son, Larry (Donna) of Ravenna; daughters, Nancy (Skip) McElravy, and Barbara (Larry) Sell, both of Streetsboro; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Mildred Truax of Streetsboro.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, where ervices will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Karen Graham officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.
Maurice L. "Mick" Alexander Sr.
NELSON - Maurice L. "Mick" Alexander Sr., 73, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness.
Born Oct. 9, 1927 in Brooke County, W. Va., he was the son of John Albert and Martha E. (Freeland) Alexander.
Mr. Alexander had been a supervisor at LTV Republic Steel for 28 years, retiring in 1974.
He enjoyed tinkering and bicycle repair, fixing the bikes up so he could give them away. He also collected old cars.
Survivors include his sons, William "Ken" and David A., both of Garrettsville, and Paul R. of Warren; daughter, Diana L. Durst of Garrettsville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Paul of Weirton, W. Va. His wife, Twila May, whom he married Oct. 5, 1946, died Aug. 11, 1986. A son, Maurice "Mickey" Jr.; grandson, David L.; brothers, Scott, Herman, Chester, Clarence, Earl and Elvin; and sisters, Hazel, Elizabeth, Virginia, Lucille, Audrey and Agnes, died previously.

Nedra E. DeYoung Overholt
Nedra E. DeYoung Overholt, 87, of Ravenna, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Oct. 28, 1913 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Archie and Edna (Dole) Dunning. She was a life resident of Ravenna.
Mrs. Overholt was a secretary at Kent State University.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ravenna and the Thursday Literary Club. She also did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include her sons, Richard (Marty) DeYoung of Ravenna and Arden (Peggy) DeYoung of Lakewood; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Simon DeYoung, died in 1968. Her second husband, Ervin Overholt, died in 1974.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. Friday until a 3 p.m. memorial service at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with the Rev. Vernon White officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Ravenna.
Dr. Ralph S. Kaczor
Dr. Ralph S. Kaczor, 85, of State College, Pa., who was a professor of economics at Kent State University, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Fairways at Brookline Village in State College.
Born Sept. 15, 1915, in Carnegie, Pa., he was the son of Stanislas and Mary (Czarna) Kaczor. He had been a resident of State College, Pa. and Palm Harbor, Fla. for the past 11 years.
Dr. Kaczor was a member of the economics faculty at Kent State University until he retired in 1976.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served as a first lieutenant under General George S. Patton. While in the army, he attended the University of Manchester in Manchester, England, where he studied economics. He was a 1939 graduate of KSU with a degree in business education and social studies. After World War II, he earned his doctorate in economics from Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y.
An avid golfer, he had three holes in one. He being with his family, especially his grandchildren, and participating in and watching sports.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor (Varley), whom he married June 10, 1957; daughter, Eleanor K. Martin of State College, Pa.; four grandchildren; brothers, Edward of Milan, Ohio, and Frank of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Sophia Hildebrand of New Providence, N.J., and Marian Bravis of Lakewood. Two sisters and a brother died previously.

Brenda Jean Jankowski
STREETSBORO - Brenda Jean Jankowski, 58, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Jan. 14, 1943 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, she was the daughter of Glenn and Glee (Rine) Evans. She had lived in Euclid before moving to Streetsboro 27 years ago.
Mrs. Jankowski was a secretary at the Streetsboro High School guidance office. She had been an elementary school teacher for the Mayfield Schools.
She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley, to whom she was married for more than 30 years; sons, Todd Michael of Kent and Kris Michael of Chicago; and sister, Cherie (Kenneth) Sbocco of Roaming Shores, Ohio.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro,with Msgr. Frederick Slaven officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.
