Evlyn M. Devine, 89
MANTUA - Evlyn Morgan Devine, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Aurora Manor Special Care Centre.
Born April 3, 1911, she was the daughter of Evan and Pamela (Conger) Devine. She had lived in Mantua for 80 years.
Mrs. Devine had been employed at the Mantua Post Office as a postal worker.
She was a member of Hilltop Christian Church in Mantua, Eastern Star and the Portage County Republican Party.
Survivors include her friends, Florence Dunkerton and Sharon Marks, both of Mantua. Her husband, Earl, died in 1980. Her sisters also died previously.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Golden Rule Funeral Home in Garrettsville, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Eastern Star services will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Mantua.
Margaret E. Nagy
RANDOLPH - Margaret E. Nagy, 91, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001.
Born May 28, 1909, in Akron, she was the daughter of Mathias and Susan (Freund) Pamer. She had lived in Mansfield most of her life, and was a resident of the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman since June 2000.
Mrs. Nagy retired from Sears Roebuck in 1974, where she had been an auditor for 15 years.
She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Mansfield.
Survivors include her daughters, Laureen (Barney) Nenadov of Canyon Country, Calif., Susanne (David) Goodyear of Randolph; ten grandchildren; brothers, George (Kay) Pamer, Joseph (Betty) Pamer, both of Mansfield; sisters, Susanne Pavkov of Mansfield, Helen (George) Pavkov of Doylestown, Sophia (William) Sabo of Mansfield. Her husband, Custer; brother, Lawrence; sisters, Irene and Emily, died previously.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday afternoon, and services will be held on Monday. Times to be determined. Arrangements are being handled by Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road in Mansfield (419) 529-2323. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Randolph Fire/Rescue Department or the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman.
Edward F. Kaminski
Edward F. Kaminski, 78, of Needham Avenue, Kent, died Thursday, January 11, 2001, at his home.
Born July 30, 1922, in Kent, he was the son of Peter and Konstancja "Katie" (Piza) Kaminski.
Mr. Kaminski was a founding partner of Consolidated Mold & Die and retired from Superior Mold and Die.
He was a Navy Pilot during WWII. He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Kent Elks BPOE 1377; Kent Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3703; and the Kent American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Rosalie (Riggle); sons, Terry L. of Stow and James E. of Chagrin Falls; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, James of New Jersey; and sister, Lydia Yamokowski of Florida. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Vincent, Arthur, Alfred and Joseph; and sister, Joan Piltz.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home. Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

John Perkovich
John Perkovich, 76, of Newton Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, of an apparent heart attack.
Born Nov. 27, 1924, in Newton Falls, he was the son of Louis and Mary (Shokac) Perekovich. He was a lifetime resident of Newton Falls.
Mr. Perkovich had been a biology teacher at Lakeview High School in Cortland for 25 years, prior to his retirement in 1980.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Newton Falls. He was chairman of the science department at Lakeview High School and served as the school's athlectic director from 1968 to 1980. He graduated Newton Falls High School in 1943 and later graduated from Kent State University. He enjoyed all sports and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona Jean (Sechler) Perkovich, whom he married July 6, 1968; brothers, Joseph (Joe), Rudy, Louis, Jr., all of Newton Falls; sisters, Margaret (Margie) Rogers of Baltimore, Md., Anne Perekovich of Las Vegas, Nev., Janet Wileman of Houston, Texas. His brother, Thomas; sister, Kathryn Julian Perkovich; first wife Helen (Golias) Perkovich, died previously.
Calling hours will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. John P. Madden officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Lillian Cooper
WINDHAM - Lillian Cooper, 78, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at her daughter's residence in Lake Milton following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 25, 1922, in Freedom, she was the daughter of Herman and Ina (Schovall) Berg. She had lived in Portage County all her life.
Mrs. Cooper had worked for Carlon Products in Aurora for 15 years, retiring in the early 1980s.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dogs.
Survivors include sons, Donald and Eric, both of Windham, and Paul of Follansbee, W. Va.; daughters, Pamela Jenkins and Joy Ramsell, both of Windham, Patricia Michael of Lake Milton, with whom she made her home, Sheila Liezert of Twinsburg and Sharon Swain of Wellsburg, W. Va.; 26 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. A brother, William; and sisters, Zelia Maldinger and Ella Rock, died previously.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to 2 p.m. services Monday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, with the Rev. Peter King officiating. Burial will be in Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom Township.

Lyndon J. Jacobs
Lyndon J. Jacobs, 72, of Vine Street, Kent, died Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Oct. 3, 1928, in Cleveland, he as the son of Montaque and Gladys (Rowe) Jacobs. His parents came to the United States from Monmouthshire, England.
Mr. Jacobs was a retired machinist for Lamson-Sessions and RB&W, where he worked for 43 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean War in the 7th Infantry, U.S. Army, and was an avid pilot and a member of the AOPA for 10 years. He was also a former scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 251, a member of the American Legion, and was involved with the aerial search and rescue. He was also a stone mason, prospector, carpenter and hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Doris (Miller); sons Douglas (Cathy) of Kent and Norman (Nicole) of Kent; daughters Denise (Paul) Jacobs-Woolf of Kent; and four grandchildren. His parents and stepfather, Earl Snyder, died previously.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, were services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, concluded with the American Legion Honor Guard services.
Philip Papiska
Philip Papiska, 63, of Akron, died suddenly Jan. 10, 2001.
He was born Feb. 19, 1937, in Ravenna.
Mr. Papiska was employed by Intertex World Resources LTD and was in the rubber industry for more than 40 years.
He was a member of Fairlawn Country Club, Bath United Church of Christ, and an avid golfer and hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Carole (Sollberger) and daughters Anne Miller (Paul) of Charlotte, N.C. and Melanie Papiska of Cincinnati; brother David of Ravenna; and sisters Elinor Marshall of Dallas, Susan Chamberlain of Kansas City. His son, Todd, died in 1973.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. until the service, which will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bath United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 3980 W. Bath Road, the Rev. Mark Frey officiating. Arrangements were made by Dunn-Quigley, Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home.

Jean M. Zimmerman
STREETSBORO Ð Jean M. Zimmerman, 82, formerly of Richmond Heights died Wednesday, Jan 10, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born June 1, 1918, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Ignatz and Rose (Kacjan) Vidmar.
She was retired from her job as a customer service representative for the Richmond Mall.
Survivors include her son, Tony (Jennifer Reinker) of Streetsboro; and four grandchildren. Her husband, Anthony J.; and six brothers and sisters, all died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Schulte & Mann-Murphy Funeral Home in Lyndhurst.
Services are at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paschal Baylon Church in Highland Heights. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery.
Leonard Romano, 72
Leonard "Nardy" Romano, 72, of Ravenna, an outstanding Ravenna High School athlete who coached youth football n Ravenna for many years, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro after a long illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1928 in Ravenna, he was the son of Mariano and Carmella (Fisher) Romano.
Mr. Romano retired from the Chrysler Corporation. He also had worked at the Ravenna Arsenal.
A 1947 Ravenna High School graduate, he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He also was active in the drama department.
He became involved with the Ravenna Pee-Wee Football League in the late 1960s and became head coach of the junior varsity team, leading the team to the league championship in 1968. He was awarded a plaque by the Ravenna Rams for his outstanding contributions to the betterment of the youth of Ravenna.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, which he entered in 1948 following high school.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna and Ravenna Eagles No. 2164.
He enjoyed music and dancing and could be seen at many weddings and other occasions doing the jitterbug.
Survivors include his son, Randy Lee (Linda) of Aurora, Colo.; brothers, Joe (Nadine) of Topeka, Kan., Frank (Connie), of Andover, Russell (Beverly) of Grove City, Pa. and Major John Romano (Diane) of South Bend Ind.; sisters, Kathryn (Bill) King of Norwalk, Ann (Leo) Wymer of Lambertville, Mich., Bridget (Tom) Gray of Loveland and Patti (Richard) Naulty of Herington Beach, Calif. His wife, Mavis (Ginger), died previously.

Leta Chionchio, 99
Leta Chionchio, 99, of Ravenna, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born Dec. 8, 1901 in Vieste, Italy, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Castellano) Naturale. She had lived in Ravenna since 1915.
Mrs. Chionchio was a homemaker.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include her son, Matthew A. of Ravenna; daughters, Margaret (Alva) Wysel and Josephine Battista, both of Kent and Joanne (Patrick) Kilbane of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Joseph, died in 1990. Three brothers and three sisters died previously.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, with the Rev. David Misbrener officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Ravenna.

Patience Shomock, 94
Patience "Pat" K. Shomock, 94, formerly of Ravenna, died December 6, 2000 at the Ohio Masonic Home in Springfield, Ohio where she and her husband, Joseph, had resided since 1996.
Born June 12, 1906, in Trenton, N.J., the daughter of Frank C. and Hannah B. Hartman, she and her husband had made their home for many years in Ravenna, where he was vice president of manufacturing for Evenflo Products.
Mrs. Shomock was known in the community as an avid and skilled golfer. She was a member of the 18-hole women's golf league at Twin Lakes Country Club and was a runner-up in women's competition at the club several times.
She also was active in Robinson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Unity Lodge No.1012 in Ravenna.
After Evenflo was sold to outside ownership in the early 1970s, her husband retired and the couple relocated to Florida, where they lived for several years until they became residents of the Ohio Masonic Home in Springfield.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her sister, Olive Smith, New South Wales, Australia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Helen Finley of Vestaburg, Pa.; sister-in-law, Janie Hartman of Dayton; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at the Ohio Masonic Home Chapel of Springfield. Burial was in the Ohio Masonic Home Cemetery.
Margaret Hawkins, 50
Former Garrettsville resident Margaret E. "Margie" Hawkins, 50, died Tuesday, January 9, 2001, at her home.
Born Dec. 3, 1950, she was the daughter of Edward J. and Margaret Z. (Coburn) King. She lived in Garrettsville until moving to Lake County six years ago.
Mrs. Hawkins was a bank teller at First Merit Bank in Willoughby.
She enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include her son, Benjamin J. (Marciane) II of Atwater; daughter, Shauna L. (Robert) Capron of Ravenna; one grandchild; father, Edward King of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; brothers, Edward R. King and Bryan J. (Jessica) King, both of Fort Lauderdale; and sisters, Gloria A. (Melvin) Grigg of Phoenix, Ariz. and Cindy Crawford of Palm Beach, Fla. Her mother, Margaret King Rebham, died previously.

Blair "Scott" Knight, 35, of Ravenna, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 8, 2001.
Born May 27, 1965, in Phillipi, W. Va., he was the son of Charles and Phyllis (Moore) Knight.
Mr. Knight was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include his mother, Phyllis; brothers, Charles F. Sr. (Mickey) of Cuyahoga Falls, Robert W. (Rhonda) of Streetsboro, Jack L. (Jeannie) of Ravenna and Jeff A. (Doris) of Euclid; and sister, Debbie (Jim) Archer of Streetsboro. His father died in 1984.

BRADY LAKE - Olive K. Long, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born, Jan 14, 1917, in Green Township, Pa., she was the daughter of Orrin C. and Orpha C. (Goodlin) Bash. Formerly of Ravenna, she lived in Brady Lake for 30 years.
Mrs. Long was a sterilization technician at Robinson Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna
She was an avid bingo player.
Survivors include her husband, Charles E., to whom she was married 66 years; son, Adelbert "Sonny" (Heike) of Northfield; daughters, Lois (Tom) Mariana and Betty Lynch, both of Ravenna; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lyle and C. Louis Bash, both of Pennsylvania, and Telford Bash of Streetsboro; and sister, Geraldine Marsh of Pennsylvania. Her brother, Donald Bash, and sister, Nona Snyder, died previously.

Johanna Hille, 91
Johanna "Omi" Hille, 91, the mother of Ursula Ficht of Mantua, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001 at her home in Bremen, Germany.
Born Feb. 12, 1909 in Essen, Germany, she was the daughter of Dr. Kurt and Louise (Brauer) Aoetgers. She visited the United States every summer for 36 years, making her last trip at the age of 90.
Mrs. Hille had been a nurse and enjoyed working with people.

Lilian Curtiss, 91
Former Garrettsville resident Lilian Margaret (Cooper) Curtiss, 91, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Jackson, Ky., after a long illness.
Born Dec. 15, 1909, in Pasadena, Calif., she was the daughter of Arthur Victor and Bertha (Ayers) Cooper.
Mrs. Curtiss worked for Heinen's Independent Grocers for nine years, and worked seven years for an accountant in Chagrin Falls. She also was a secretary for Chagrin Falls Methodist Church and worked for General Electric in Cleveland.
She had been a member of the Garrettsville United Methodist Church, as well as Rebekah Lodge No. 403. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 14 years.
She graduated from Spencerian Business School in Cleveland.
Survivors include her son, Gary L. of Worthington; daughter, Shirley (Curtiss) Snell of Jackson, Ky.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Rinerson Kent of Mansfield and Venice, Fla.; and sisters-in-law, Harriet Isler of Warren, Ruth Totten Cooper of Canton. Her husband, Louis E.; brother, William; sisters, Alice Bush, Bette Bettiker; and sister-in-law, Frances Pike died previously.
