Merle Miller, 84
Merle Miller, 84, of 1619 Robbins Ave., Niles, died Monday at St. Joseph's Health Center.
Born Jan. 24, 1916, in Reader, W.Va., he had lived in the area since 1952. He moved to Florida in 1975 and returned to the Niles area in 1999.
Mr. Miller was employed for 23 years by Republic Steel as a crane repairman, retiring in 1975.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He attended Warren Revival Center.
Survivors include his wife, Doris (Johns), whom he married April 24, 1975; sons, Charles of Canfield, Norman of McDonald, Carl of Rapids, Wis. and Gary of Eustis, Fla.; daughters, Elizabeth McCune of Howland Township, Alberta Beuter of Niles, Clarissa Miller of Leavittsburg; stepsons, Jake Click of Southington and James Click of Niles; stepdaughters Wanda Miller of Eustis, Fla. and Cathy Campbell of Orange Park, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. His first wife, Juanita Miller, died in 1974. His daughters, Elise Shaw and Sharon Miller, and two granddaughters died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Roberts-Clark Memorial Home, 188 Garfield Drive, NE, Warren, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Cremation will follow. Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery.
Harold Derr, 89
Harold E. "Red" Derr, 89, of Fairchild Avenue, Kent, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Feb. 21, 1911, in Kent, he was the son of George and Myrtle (Struck) Derr.
Mr. Derr worked as a machine operator at Lamson & Sessions Co. in Kent, an independent trucker and a carpenter at Cortex in Kent. He also was a farmer and had his own vegetable stand.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Military Police in the European theater.
Survivors include his wife, Edna L. (DeFluiter); three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and sister, Rosemary (Richard) Harrick of Kent. His sister, Beatrice H. Webb, died in 1987.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, followed by a service at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Kay Dunlap officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Leonard Romano, 72
Leonard "Nardy" Romano, 72, of Ravenna, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001 at Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro.

Darrell Steele, 38
SHALERSVILLE - Darrell Steele, 38, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at South Pointe Meridia Hospital in Warrensville Heights after a sudden illness.
Born Aug. 10, 1962, he was the son of Jean and Lillard Steele Sr. He was a life resident of the Portage area.
Mr. Steele was a truck driver for TL Express in Mantua.
Survivors include his wife, Susan (Scher), to whom he was married 20 years; sons, Christopher and Andrew, both at home; mother, Jean; brother, Lillard Jr. of North Royalton; and sisters, Chris Frattorolli and Donna Fortner, both of Georgia. His father died previously.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hilltop Christian Church in Mantua. Arrangements are being handled by McFarland & Son Funeral Home in Warren.

Blair Knight, 35
Blair Scott Knight, 35, of Ravenna, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 8, 2001.

John Mancino
Former Ravenna resident John Mancino, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001 at Traditions at Bath Road Nursing Home in Cuyahoga Falls after a long illness.
Born April 4, 1927 in Akron, he was the son of Samuel and Pettina (Mazza) Mancino. He had been a life resident of Ravenna.
Mr. Mancino was a retail furniture salesman. He owned Portage Furniture in Ravenna, Today's Furniture in Ravenna and Streetsboro and Matress World and Furniture in Alliance. He retired from Kent Giant Eagle after working there for 10 years.
He was a member of Ravenna Elks Lodge No. 1076 and Grace Episcopal Church in Ravenna.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.
Survivors include his son, Samuel (Marisa) of Cuyahoga Falls; one grandchild; sister, Fran Cooley of Ravenna; sister-in-law, Janet (Doug) Svoboda of Ravenna; and nephew, George (Ann) Cooley of Wadsworth. His wife, Virginia, died in 1990. His brothers, James and Joseph, and sister, Marjorie Lalama, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Carol Evans officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.

Nancy L. Balogh,
WINDHAM - Nancy L. Balogh, 64, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Warren after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 16, 1936 in Aurora, she was the daughter of Lester and Emily (Veverka) Sweet. She had lived in Mantua before moving to Windham.
Mrs. Balogh was a kitchen worker at the Aurora Inn.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer; daughter, Katherine L. Ward of Windham; two grandchildren; brother, Les Sweet of Southington; and sister, Donna Hershman of Twinsburg. Her brothers, Harry and Jerry Sweet; and daughter, Donna, died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held for the family at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua. A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville.
Eugene E. Schulenberg
Eugene E. Schulenberg, 71, the father of two Kent women, died Friday, Jan. 5 at his home in Clearwater, Fla.
Born Dec. 18, 1929 in Williamsville, N.Y., he was the son of Eugene A. and Cornelia R. (Vogel) Schulenberg.
Mr. Schulenberg was an accountant and was employed by the Lisk-Savory Co. in Buffalo, N.Y.
Survivors include his sons John (Cathleen Connell) of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Rob (Michelle) of Pittsburgh; daughters Sandy (Bill) Rippey of Kent and Jane (Matt) Barnhouse-Olsen of Kent; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and brother, Norbert.
There will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Williamsville, N.Y. in the spring.
Memorials may be made to any local hospice.
Lucas Daniel Lemongelli
Lucas Daniel Lemongelli, the 5-month-old son of Michael and Michele (Morris) Lemongelli of Summit Gardens Boulevard, Kent, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
He was born Aug. 13, 2000 in Ravenna.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his brothers, A.J. and Zachary; and grandparents John and Helen Lemongelli of Bath, Pa. and Amy Peebles and John and Donna Morris, all of Kent.
Visitation will take place one hour before the service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, with the Rev. Everett Schleef officiating.
Ralph Pemberton Jones
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, for Ralph Pemberton Jones, 80, of Kent, who died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Alliance Community Hospital.
George Pinter Sr., 88
George J. Pinter Sr., 88, of Ravenna, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 after a long illness.
Born Nov. 30, 1912 in Pageton, W. Va., he was the son of Frank and Anna (Monok) Pinter. He had lived in Mantua before moving to Ravenna 55 years ago.
Mr. Pinter retired from Ruhlin Construction of Akron. He was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 66 of Pittsburgh.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Stella J. (Ken), to whom he was married for 55 years; sons, George (Sharon) of Miami Beach, Fla. and Frank J. (Kim) of Rootstown; daughter, Kathleen A. Sommers of Orrville; six grandchildren; brothers, William of Ravenna and Arthur of Mantua; and sisters, Rose Lange of Mantua and Margaret Orban of Ravenna.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Wood-Kortrighht Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum in Ravenna.
Margaret Goodrich, 76
STREETSBORO Margaret G. Goodrich, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Maison Aine Nursing Home in Stow.
Born June 24, 1924, in Turtle Creek, Pa., she was the daughter of David and Grace Brown. Formerly of DuBoise, Pa., she had lived in Portage County since 1990.
Mrs. Goodrich was a snack bar manager at the Thrift Drug Store in Monroeville, Pa.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Streetsboro and the Portage County Senior Center.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur, to whom she was married 58 years; sons, Thomas (Sandi) of Twin Lakes and James (Colleen) of California; daughter, Carol (Gary) Thompson of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., nine grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence Clark of Pennsylvania and David Brown of California; and sister, Louise Rovier of California.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. Thursday at Faith Baptist Church in Streetsboro, with the Rev. Donald Workman officiating.Private burial will be in Morningside Cemetery in DuBoise, Pa. Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, is handling arrangements.
Michael Patti, 81
Michael T. Patti, 81, of Akron died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, after a brief illness.
Mr. Patti retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron in 1980. He was a member of the United Steelworkers/URW Local 2.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific. His vessel left Pearl Harbor 10 days before the attack on Dec. 7, 1941.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine R., to whom he was married 54 years; sons, Michael (Lynn) of Akron, Richard (Gail) of Massillon, John (Sandi) of Windham, Frank (Bee) of Renton, Wash., and Tom of Sacramento, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and brother, Sam of Wadsworth.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Dunn-Quigley-Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home in Akron. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 2935 Chenoweth St., Akron 44312. Burial will be Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.

Raymond Genchur, 67
Raymond Genchur, 67, of 266 Taylor Ave., Newton Falls, died Sunday, January 7, 2001 of complications from diabetes at the Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls.
Born Nov. 25, 1933 in Newton Falls, he was the son of Boldy G. and Mary (Rancik) Genchur. He had lived in Newton Falls all his life.
Mr. Genchur owned and operated the Genchur Sunoco Service Station in Newton Falls for 41 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Newton Falls. He enjoyed gardening, sports and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy A. (Dallas), whom he married June 2, 1956; son, James M. of Mooresville, North Carolina; daughter, Valerie (William K.) Rundle of Monroe Falls; five grandchildren; brothers, John of East Meadows, New York and Andrew G. of Newton Falls; and sister, Helen Mandrick of Newton Falls. A grandson, Raymond Charles; brother, Thomas E.; and sisters, Ann Hadick and Dorothy Dye, all died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church in Newton Falls, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Newton Falls.

John H. Gough
John H. Gough, 60, of 325 W. Ohio Ave., Sebring, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at his home.
Born July 30, 1940, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he was a son of Harry Norman and Constance (Herbert) Gough.
Mr. Gough was the co-owner/operator for the Smith & Gough Construction Co. where he worked for 32 years.
In 1961, he won the Ohio Bricklayers Apprentice Championship. He was a member of the Operative Plasterers and Cement Mason's Union Local 0109 in Akron and the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 07. He attended Salem Bible School for 10 years and he graduated from Salem High School with the class of 1959. He performed voluntary masonry work the Sebring Lions Club on the newly constructed veterans' memorial.
Survivors include his wife, Susan (Brubaker) whom he married Nov. 26, 1988; son, John Daniel Gough of the home; stepson, Russell Coppock; daughters, Mary Ann Williams of Leetonia, Kristen Gough of Columbiana, Connie Smith of Hendersonville, Ind., and Olivia Gough of the home; stepdaughters, Robi Smith of Sebring, and Becky Jo Coppock of Alliance; eight grandchildren; and his mother, Constance Gough of Salem. His father, Harry Norman Gough died Feb. 22, 1993; and a brother, Daniel Herbert Gough died on March 12, 1964.
Calling hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Gednetz Ruzek Funeral Home. The family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Westville Community Bible Church with Rev. Rod Doran officiating. Burial is in Highland Memorial Park.

Edna Mae Barnard
Edna Mae Barnard, 94, a former Edinburg resident, died at a nursing home in Lakeland, Florida on Sunday, February 4 following a period of failing health.
Born December 25, 1906, in Huntington, Indiana, Edna Mae Price came to Ohio with her parents. She was a secretary until her marriage to Jack Barnard. They lived in Mantua, then in Edinburg.
They were active in the Edinburg United Church. Mr. Barnard died in 1967.
Mrs. Barnard moved to Lakeland, Florida in 1977. She was a member of the Crystal Lake United Methodist Church there.
She is survived by a sister, Lela Burgess of Monroe, Michigan, and a sister-in-law, Beth Force of Arizona.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside services at the Edinburg Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Edinburg United Church.
Janet F. George
STREETSBORO - Janet F. George, 77, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Oct. 13, 1923 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Leon and Mary Ann Kurak. She had lived in Streetsboro since 1956.
Mrs. George was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Edward, to whom she was married for 51 years; sons, Gary (Kathi) of Kent, Larry (Jill) of Mentor and Dale (Elaine) of Lakewood; and six grandchildren. A brother and sister died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Holm officiating. Private burial will be held.
Hildred M. Main
Former Diamond resident Hildred M. Main, 74, of Gilmore, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001 at Union Hospital from complications following an automobile accident on Oct. 9, 2000.
Born May 9, 1926 in Barnesville, Ohio, she was the daughter of George and Virgie M. (Spencer) Gallager. She had been a resident of Guernsey and Tuscarawas counties most of her life and had lived in Diamond for 20 years.
Mrs. Main was a homemaker.
She was a member of Gilmore Church of Christ and taught Sunday school for several years at Windham Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Frank J., whom she married March 4, 1946; sons, William (Jody) of Cambridge, Robert (Martha Jean) of Gilmore, Ronald (Peggy) of Crowder, Okla., and Donald (Debra) of Newton Falls; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; twin sister, Mildred (Larry) Morrison and sisters, Anna Eschbaugh and Anita (Randall) Lucas, all of Barnesville; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Main of Blocker, Okla. and Roselyn Gallager of Quaker City. Four brothers and two sisters died previously.
