Cornelius V.R. Bogert Jr., 88,
Cornelius V.R. Bogert Jr., 88, formerly of Philadelphia, Pa., the father of Alison Steinberg of Kent, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in Akron.
Born July 17, 1911 in Bogota, N.J., he was the son of Cornelius V.R. and Evelyn (Truefitt) Bogert.
Mr. Bogert worked with architect George Howe for a number of years, designing the Children's World Pavilion at the 1939 New York World's Fair and the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin headquarters. He also designed the Keystone Auto Club building and the Rohm & Haas building, both in Philadelphia.
He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Architecture in 1934.
In addition to his daughter in Kent, survivors include his wife, Hope (Holland), to whom he was married 62 years; sons, Peter of South Carolina and Cornelius V.R. III of Kentucky; six grandchildren; and brother, Allen Z. of Alabama.
No calling hours or services will be held. A private memorial service is being planned by the family. Arrangements are being handled by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel.
Martha Jane Fisher, 55
STOW - Martha Jane Fisher, 55, of Stow, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Hospice Care Center in Copley Township.
Born Oct. 9, 1944 in Columbus, she was the daughter of Francis E. and Mary Ellen (Coen) Smith.
A former resident of Mentor, Mrs. Fisher graduated from Pleasant View High School. She earned a bachelor degree in sociology from Ohio State University and a master of education degree in rehabilitation counseling from Kent State University. She was a certified rehabilitation counselor, a member of the Ohio Commission on Rehabilitation Counselors and on the board of directors. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Mildred Chapter 85. She was an active member of the Methodist church - most recently in the Garrettsville Methodist Church where she was in the choir. She was a foster mother for 12 years for numerous children.
Survivors include her husband Robert B.; daughter Amy Elizabeth; father Francis E. Smith; brother William Smith; sister Marian English; and brother-in-law Bruce L. Her son Robert B. and mother Mary Ellen Smith died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 9819 Darrow Road, Twinsburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cardington Methodist Church, 300 S. Marion St., Cardington.

Francis "Jay" Eichmiller Sr., 70
Francis "Jay" Eichmiller Sr., 70, of Parkman, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Hillcrest Hospital in Warren after a short illness.
Born Nov. 16, 1929, in Uniontown, Pa., he had lived in the Parkman area for more than 25 years.
Mr. Eichmiller was a carpenter in the general maintenance department for Jack Picard in Parkman.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and gardening, tinkering with small engines and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Carol (Golden), whom he married Nov. 19, 1966; and a son, Francis "J.J." Eichmiller Jr. of Garrettsville.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until services at noon Saturday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
Robert L. Hill, 63
Robert L. Hill, 63, of 1127 Woodland Ave., Alliance, died Monday, July 3, 2000 at Alliance Community Hospital.
Born Oct. 7, 1936 in Atwater, he was the son of James and Margaret (Jenkins) Hill. A 1954 graduate of Southeast High School, he had lived in Alliance since 1962.
Mr. Hill worked as a mold closer at American Steel Foundries for 35 years. He was a member of the 25 Year Club of American Steel and had been a member of the United We Set Club.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn (Vayner) Cowart Hill, whom he married Oct. 7, 1991, son Robert, Jr. of Olathe, Kan., daughters, Margaret of Alliance and Susan Harbert of Woodhaven, Mich.; stepson Henry Cowart of Alliance; stepdaughters Kathryn D. Toussant of Sebring, Stephanie J. Davidson of New Philadelphia and Eva M. Roberts of Alliance; 12 step-grandchildren; and sisters Marjorie E. Marshall, Evelyn K. Hughes and Elaine M. Carpenter, all of Alliance.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cassady-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave. in Alliance, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Timothy Black officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Beloit.

Samuel R. Stark Sr., 77
Samuel Raymond Stark Sr., 77, of Painesville, died Monday, July 3, 2000 at Lake Hospital Systems East in Painesville after a short illness.
Born Jan. 25, 1923 in Akron, he was the son of Milo and Julia (Frankovich) Stark. He had lived in Painesville for 50 years.
Mr. Stark was the founder and president of S.R. Stark, Inc. Certified Public Accountants in Painesville, which he began in 1953. His firm included many clients in both the Portage and Geauga County areas, including several in Garrettsville, as well as his Lake County business clients. In 1997, his firm merged and became Stark & Bencar, Inc. Certified Public Accountants in Painesville, where he still remained active on a daily basis as he became semi-retired. His son, David, remains active in the business.
He was a member of the National Association of Public Accountants, the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants and American Legion Post No. 214 in Willoughby. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and also served with the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1950.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene (Zaiser), whom he married Nov. 22, 1947; sons, Michael of Greeley, Colo., Sam R. Jr., David T. and Patrick S., all of Painesville; daughter, Polly M. Baber of Painesville; seven grandchildren; a brother, Steven Staich; and sisters, Natalie Wolfsberger of El Cajon, Calif. and Sally Mitchell of Akron. Two sisters died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Ave. (Rt. 20) in Painesville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Robert Gaston officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Painesville. Local arrangements were made by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Martha J. Hamilton, 75
ROOTSTOWN - Martha J. Hamilton, 75, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000 at her home.
Born May 15, 1925 in Akron, she was the daughter of Lee and Louetta (Williams) Richmond.
Mrs. Hamilton was a member of the Portage Community Baptist Church of Ravenna. She was active with local Good News Clubs for area children.
Survivors include her husband, Milton H.; sons, Thomas E. of Kent, and Mark A. (Shelly) of Rootstown; daughter, Jacqueline A. of Rootstown; and three grandchildren. Her son, David; brother, Daniel; and sister, Ella Luckett, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Portage Community Baptist Church in Ravenna, with the Rev. Barry Shahan officiating. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown.

James Franklin Hallock, 52, of Ravenna died Monday, July 3, 2000.

Joseph Ries, 57
BRADY LAKE - Joseph O. Ries, 57, died Saturday, July 1, 2000 at his home following a short illnes due to 11 years of quadroplecia.
Born April 1, 1943 in Bajmok, Austria, Hungary, he was the son of Mathias and Paula (Kunzer) Ries. He came to the United States with his family when he was 5 years old and grew up in Newton Falls.
Mr. Ries worked at Crestwood Middle School for 24 years until he was injured in 1989. He taught social studies, served as athletic director and helped coach wrestling.
He was a Kent State University graduate.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Kent.
Survivors include his wife, Julia, to whom he was married 26 years; son, Jeffrey, at home; father in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Joretta of Washington Court House, Ohio; and sisters-in-law Linda (Gene) Wells of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Susan (Jon) Mitchell of Washington Court House and Nancy Brunner of Columbus. His parents died previously.
Calling hours will be held from noon until services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church in Kent, with the Rev. Bruce Chouinard officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. Arrangements were made by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel.

Roy Woofter, 66
Roy C. Woofter of Ravenna, 66, died Saturday, July 1, 2000 at Akron City Hospital after a brief illness.
Born July 1, 1934 in Troy, W.Va., he was the son of Ola and Gay (Rexroad) Woofter. He had lived in Ravenna for three years and formerly lived in Hiram for 26 years.
Mr. Woofter worked as a crystal cutter for Harshaw Chemical Co. in Solon from 1956 until he retired in 1991.
He was a member and elder of Streetsboro Church of Christ.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, stationed at Fort Belvair, Va.
He enjoyed gardening, camping, and hunting on his family homestead in Troy, W. Va.
Survivors include his wife Patricia, whom he married July 26, 1958; sons, Darrell (Annette) of Canton, Douglas (Renee) of Ravenna and Brian of Parkman; daughters Donella (Edward) Vanhorn of Garrettsville, and Kimberly (Robert) Mate and Sherry (Matthew) Mate, both of Colebrook, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; brothers, Elbert of Bridgeport, W.Va., and Charles of Pennsylvania; sisters, Elsie Irland of Weston, W.Va., Edna Lamb of Cox's Mills, W.Va., and Elnora Huddleston of Stow.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with Mr. Gene H. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.
Robert Clyde Jr., 89
STREETSBORO - Robert Clyde Jr., 89, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born July 12, 1910 in Philadelphia, he was the son of Robert and Marie (Damberger) Clyde, Sr. Formerly of Elyria, he had lived in Streetsboro since 1969.
Mr. Clyde worked as an optical lens manufacturer at the Harshaw Chemical Co. in Elyria and Solon until he retired in 1975.
He was a member of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Streetsboro, where he was a Sunday School teacher, Outreach leader and served on the church council. He also was a member and honorary life member of the Mahoning Valley Astronomers Club, and built his own telescopes.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his son, Niels of West Paterson, N.J.; one grandchild and one great-grandchild. His sister, Marjorie Glenn, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Denise Sager officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.

Anna Rossow, 95
Anna Mae Rossow, 95, of Alliance, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at St. Joseph Care Center.
Born Oct. 28, 1904, in Rootstown, she was the daughter of Walter and Bessie (Baldwin) Porterfield. She attended Shalersville School. She had lived in Alliance for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Rossow was a homemaker.
She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alliance, where she taught Sunday School for 45 years.
Survivors include her sons, Harold of Weston, Idaho and Richard of Louisville, Ohio; daughters, Nancy Tschantz of Louisville, Elva Scaduto of Youngstown and Lois Green of Denver, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Laura White of Canton. Her husband, Edward C., whom she married Apr. 11, 1925 died Jan. 11, 1994. A daughter, Harriet, and a grandson, Michael Rossow, also died previously.
Services were held today at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home in Alliance. Burial was in Marlboro Cemetery.

Eugene Gordon, 77
STREETSBORO - Eugene W. Gordon, Sr., 77, died Sunday, July 2, 2000 at home.
Born Feb. 22, 1923 in Iaeger, W.Va., he was the son of Charles and Fanny (Hylton) Gordon. He had lived in Streetsboro since 1965.
Mr. Gordon was a welding inspector at Terex Corp. in Hudson until he retired.
He attended Ravenna Assembly of God Church.
He had served with the U.S. Army in Korea.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn, whom he married in 1950; sons, Daniel (Bev), Dwayne and Randall (Beverly), all of Stow; Darrell (Penny) of Rootstown, and Geno (Tabitha) of Kent; daughter Dreama (the Rev. Michael) Adkins of Garrettsville; nine grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Coburn, Georgia Bryant and Lena Hall, all of Princeton, W.Va. His son, Billy; brothers, David and Percy; and sisters, Bessie, Lucy and Eva, died previously.

Cora Harvey, 78
Cora Ellen Harvey, 78, of 42Quarry St., Newton Falls, died Saturday, July 1, 2000 at Forum Health/Trumbull Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born Aug. 10, 1921, in Coral, Pa., she was the daughter of Clifford and Bessie (Barnett) Roudebush. Formerly of Windham, she had lived in the Newton Falls area for 49 years.
Mrs. Harvey was a homemaker. She previously worked at Timken Roller Bearing in Canton, Hanson Drug in Newton Falls and Ruth's Apparel in Newton Falls.
She was a member of First Congregational Church in Newton Falls.
She enjoyed reading and caring for her grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry Hardwick of Champion and Jim Harvey of Mason, Mich.; daughters, Kathleen Shonce of Leavittsburg, Janice Crawford of Newton Falls and Judy Vietto of Arnold, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; andsister, Katherine Zmuda of Leavittsburg. Her husband, James E., whom she married July 25, 1941, died Dec. 8, 1999. An infant son, George, died previously.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls, with the Rev. Paul Gaug officiating. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery.
Mary Rose Spolarich, 96
Mary Rose Spolarich, 96, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Long Meadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born Jan. 6, 1904, in Slovinia, Yugoslavia, she was the daughter of General Lupsinia and Mary (Grdanc) Lupsinia. She was a resident of Nelson Township.
Mrs. Spolarich worked as a farmer with her husband, Steve, in Twinsburg.
She was a member of the Literary Musical Club of Nelson Township. She also enjoyed singing and the button box accordion.
Survivors include her son, Albert of Nelson Township; daughter, Paula (Joe) Pawlak of Solon; and stepdaughters, Stephenie (Bud) Spencer of North Olmsted and Carolyn (Bob) Smith of Parma. Her husband, Steve, died previously in 1974 and step-daughter Elsie (Carl) Turner; and step-son Louis both died previously.

Julia A. Miller, 76, of Lexington Township, died Friday, July 30, 2000, at Aultman Hospital following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 2, 1923, in Alliance, she was a daughter of Albert and Anna Sukosd.
She is survived by her son, Scott L. Miller of North Benton; brothers, Andy, Joseph, John and James Sukosd; sister, Esther Holbert; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Roy Lee, died in 1999. Her son, Michael, also died previously.

STREETSBORO - Josephine Zamborsky, 88, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, following a long illness.
