Lawrence Ketzell
Lawrence V. Ketzell, 68, of Ravenna Township, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998.
Born May 24, 1930 in Sardis, Ohio, he was the son of William H. and Ethel J. (Stewart) Ketzell. He had been a Ravenna Township resident since 1953.
Mr. Ketzell was a machine operator at Colonial Rubber Co. in Ravenna until he retired.
A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of Ravenna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1055 and Ravenna American Legion Post No. 331. He also was a member of Ravenna Eagles Aerie No. 2164.
Survivors include his brother, Harry of Mount Vernon, Ohio; and sisters, Roletta and Grace both, of Ravenna. His brother, Earl, and sisters, Ruth Leavengood, Alice Keith, Mary Longacre, and Madelyn White, died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Gravside services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Bilza officiating.. Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home in Ravenna.
Ernest R. McCauley
NELSON - Ernest R. McCauley, 71, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron following a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 14, 1927 in Mill Creek, W.Va., he was the son of Bradford and Florence (Lambert) McCauley.
He had been a machine operator at Harbison Walker in Windham for 35 years before retiring in 1985.
An avid wrestling fan, Mr. McCauley also loved Cleveland Indians baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise (Dye) McCauley, whom he married Aug. 22, 1973; daughters, Thelma Jean Parnaby of West Farmington, Ohio, Nancy Lou Starcher, Barbara A. Conway, Diana L. Hannah, Roseanne M. Jenkins, all of Garrettsville, Jackie M. Carter of Windham, and Cathy K. Dye of Newton Falls; 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
His son, Victor; his brothers, James, Carroll, Olen and Arnold; and his sisters, Mary Loyd, Naomi Shifflet and Christina Tingler, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where services will be held at noon Saturday with the Rev. Peter T. King officiating. Burial will be in Harrington Cemetery in Nelson Township.
Betty L. Fabiny
GARRETTSVILLE Betty L. Fabiny, 73, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness.
Born Aug. 1, 1925 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Raymond and Marie (Friedrick) Krieger. Formerly of Hiram Rapids, she had lived in the Garrettsville-Nelson area for the past 20 years.
Mrs. Fabiny had been employed at Hiram College in the food services department for several years.
She enjoyed gardening and cooking for family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Andrew J.; son, Bruce J. of Burton; daughters, Diane (Joey) Long of Garrettsville, Beth Locash, Theresa (Joseph) Nanassy and Janet (Russ) Mateja, all of Kent; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; mother, Marie Krieger of Cleveland; brother, Donald Krieger of Cleveland; and sister, Lois Short of Cleveland.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Green's Funeral Home at Pioneer Trail and S.R. 44 in Mantua, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, with Mr. Donald Krieger officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.
Bertha Mae Hogue
Bertha Mae Hogue, 69, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Aurora Manor in Aurora after a long illness. Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.
Albert M. Nye
Albert M. Nye Sr., 85, of 566 Braceville Robinson Road, Braceville, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls.
Born July 23, 1913 in Fort Wayne, Ind., he was the son of Frank and Emma (Magley) Nye. He lived in Braceville all his life.
Mr. Nye was a retired steelworker at Republic Steel, and a retired teacher at Braceville High School, where he coached basketball, baseball and track. He served on the Braceville Board of Education, Trumbull County Board of Education and Trumbull County Joint Vocational School Board of Education
He was a member of Braceville United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Braceville Lions Club, and Braceville Grange.
He played varsity baseball at Kent State University and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include his wife, Anne (Domynach), whom he married Dec. 5, 1935; son, Albert M. Jr. of Newton Falls; daughters, Mitzi Hanze of Newton Falls, and Mrs. Andrew (Diane) Emmerth of Cortland; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Jr. of North Olmsted; and sister, Mary Jane Thomas of Boynton Beach, Fla. His son, Michael; brother, John; and sister, Dorothy Monroe, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Braceville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Braceville Cemetery.

Patricia Shank
Former Ravenna resident Patricia A. Shank, 58, of Cuyahoga Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital.
Born Nov. 13, 1939 in Rootstown, she was the daughter of Arnold and Mary (Workman) Williams. She had lived in Cuyahoga Falls for 13 years.
Mrs. Shank was a bookkeeper at Revco in Twinsburg.
She was a member of The Church of God in Ravenna.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; son, Shawn Rogers of Ravenna; daughter, Sandra Rogers of Houston, Tx.; one grandchild; mother, Mary Williams of Ravenna; brothers, Louis "Sonny" (Anne) of Rootstown, and Roy "Buddy" (Donna) of Defiance; and sister, Carol (Dave) Walters of Orange Calif.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Phillip Miller officiating. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown.

Elsie Steinel
Elsie Elizabeth Steinel, 85, of Ravenna, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Akron City Hospital.
Born July 9, 1913 in Akron, she was the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth (Aston) Smith. She lived in Akron until moving to Randolph in 1957. She had lived in Ravenna for the past year.
She was a member of the Homemakers Club and The Hobby Club of Randolph. She was a former member of the Allenside Presbyterian Church of Akron.
Survivors include her sons, George E. Jr. of Atwater, and Kenneth P. of Edinburg; daughter, Donna L. Sapp of Akron; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Edna Dodson of Kent. Her husband, George E. Sr., died Dec. 6, 1995. A sister, Inez Braucher, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Robert Pfeiffer officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Randolph.
Marian Russell
MOGADORE - Marian O. (Mong) Russell, 94, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998.
Born in Mogadore, she was a lifetime resident of the community.
Mrs. Russell was a poll worker in Mogadore for several years.
She was a member of the Mogadore United Methodist Church, Daughters of America, Mogadore Garden Club and Mogadore Literary Club.
Survivors include her nephew, Jim (Pat) King of Mogadore; and niece, Mary J. Shaw of Sylvan Lake, Mich. Her husband, E. Otis Russell, died in 1973.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Mogadore, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Karen Graham officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore.
Louis Mohan Jr.
RANDOLPH - Louis James "Mo" Mohan Jr., 67, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at his home.
Born in Copley, he was the son of Louis J. and Bertha Mohan. He had lived most of his life in the Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, and Atwater areas.
Mr. Mohan worked at Roadway Express for 31 years until he retired in 1993.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his sons, Ted (Tami) of Rootstown, and James (Beth) of Randolph; daughter, Cindy (Harvey) Sollers of Rootstown; one grandchild; brother, Dale (Georgene) of Cuyahoga Falls; and the mother of his children, Jessie Baum.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Mogadore, where services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Sam Goebel officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Hillside Cemetery in Randolph.

Dorothy Daugherty
Dorothy M. (Ransom) Daugherty, 75, of Lorain, the mother of Mrs. Duane (Mary) Kaley, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center in Lorain, after a long illness.
Born Sept. 24, 1923 in Blakeley, W. Va. she was the daughter of Roy and Snovia (Proctor) Ransom. She had been a Lorain resident for 43 years.
Mrs. Daugherty was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
In addition to Mrs. Kaley and her husband, who is the Portage County sheriff, survivors include her sons, Thomas of Lorain, Robert of North Ridgeville, Donald and William Schoolcraft both of Charleston W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; and brothers, Walter and Clarence Ransom both of Lorain. Her husband, Thomas, to whom she was married 40 years, and son, Ronald Schoolcraft, died previously.
Services will be held at 11 today at Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, with the Rev. James Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.

Paul Eisenman
Paul J. Eisenman, 74, of Cuyahoga Falls, who grew up in the Stow-Kent area, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998.
A life resident of the area, he attended Stow High School.
Mr. Eisenman retired from Goodyear Aerospace after 35 years of service.
He was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls and its Men's Club. He was past grand knight of Knights of Columbus Council No. 3162 in Cuyahoga Falls and past faithful navigator for Victor Paul Assembly. He also had attended St. Patrick Church in Kent.
He was active in the Akron Junior Bowling League and Cub Scouts.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Marian; sons, Robert C. (Kathy) of Stow, William A. (Lois) of Kent and Douglas M. (Kathy) of Charlotte, N.C.; daughters, Donna M. (William) Beck of Cuyahoga Falls and Joyce Robinson of Canfield; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were held at St. Eugene Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Arrangements were made by Dunn-Quigley-Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home in Cuyahoga Falls.

Virige Goodnight
CHARLESTOWN - Virgie Goodnight, 81, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born April 21, 1917 in Big Ben, W.Va., she had been a Charlestown resident for the past 25 years.
She had retired from Darwal, where she was an inspector.
She was a member of the Charlestown United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Woody of Ravenna; daughter, Darlene Sams of Charlestown; four grandchildren; and brothers, Charles Hamrick of Ravenna and Harold Hamrick of West Virginia.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Norma Bates officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
Barry Courtney
Barry S. Courtney, 74, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Anna Maria of Aurora after a period of failing health.
Arrangements will be announced by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.
John D. Earls
John D. Earls, 38, of Cincinnati, husband of Kent native Susan Perkowski Earls, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998.
Mr. Earls had been a Cincinnati firefighter for one year. He was a nationally-known softball player, performing with a traveling team on weekends.
In addition to his wife, his is survived by his son, Joey; daughter Jenny and Jayne; brothers Mike and Clifton; and sisters Loretta and Debbie Busch, all of the Cincinnati area.
Services were held at the Miamistown Church of Christ, the Rev. Mark Green of the Cincinnati Fire Department officiating. Burial was in Miamistown Cemetery,with an honor guard of 200 firefighters escorting the family to the cemetery and bagpipes playing Amazing Grace.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Shriners Burn Institute.
Thelma Marie Waggoner
Thelma Marie Waggoner, 81, of Ravenna, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born March 22, 1917 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Oliver and Daisy (Culbertson) Kreimbihl. She was a life resident of Ravenna.
Mrs. Waggoner worked in the Dietary Department of Robinson Memorial Hospital for 17 years before retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Ravenna.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Melvin H. Waggoner; son, Dan Waggoner of Ravenna; daughters, Mrs. Don (Jean) Gray of Ravenna, and Mrs. Art (June) Cline of Fairlawn; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and sister, Barbara Ferris, of Akron.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Dr. Russell Goldner officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
Robert R. Schrock
Former Aurora resident Robert R. Schrock, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, in Tucson, Ariz.
Mr. Schrock was born Oct. 26, 1927 in Barr's Mill.
Mr. Schrock played football and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Reed) of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Tom of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Amy Fry of Montana; grandchildren; brother, Jim; and sister, Janet Smith.
Charles Franklin Dodson
DEERFIELD - Charles Franklin "Cootsie" Dodson, 58, of Yale Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born July 15, 1940 in Kent, he was the son of Cloyd Edward and Edna May (Smith) Dodson.
Mr. Dodson worked at Gougler Machine as a grinder and was a member of the UAW Local 169. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Dottie A. (Rowe), whom he married Sept. 19, 1959; daughter Kathy Lynn Dodson of Deerfield; mother Edna May Dodson of Kent; brother Donald L. of Kent; sisters Marjorie J. Myers of Deerfield, Elsie M. Deacon of Kent and Emma L. Setlock of Brady Lake. His son, Charles C., died in 1977, and his father died in 1959.
Visitation will take place one hour before the service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Elizabeth M. Hazelton officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
Roger Dale Coffman
Roger Dale Coffman, 46, of Lake Milton, died Thursday Oct. 29, 1998, at home.
Born Oct. 28, 1952 in Oak Hill, W. Va., he was the son of Thomas and Avenelle (Canterbury) Coffman. He had been a Cleveland resident before moving to Lake Milton in 1988.
Mr. Coffman was a musician and had played with several area bands.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia "Cyndi" (Johnson); son Roger II of Fla.; step-daughters, Tabitha McRoberts and Jessica (McRoberts) both of Lake Milton; mother, Avenelle (Canterbury) Hurley of Oak Hill, W. Va.; brothers, Clifford of Page, W. Va., Thomas of Kent, Edward of Oak Hill, W. Va.; sisters, Vonda Ely of Norcross, Ga., Bonnie Smith of Oak Hill, W. Va., Carol Bunting of Fayetteville, W. Va., Lynn Lange of Levensworth, Kan., and Patricia Cales of Colorado Springs, Colo. His father, Thomas, and son, Sean died previously.
There will be no calling hours or services. Arrangements were handled by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home in Ravenna.
