Michael Sitko
Michael "Mitch" Sitko, 81, of S.R. 59 in Kent, died Monday, June 8, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Aug. 28, 1916 in Cleveland, he was the son of Charles and Valeris (Kwiecien) Sitko.
Mr. Sitko worked at the Ravenna Arsenal from 1947 to 1956 and was a materials handler at Ford from 1956 to 1982.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, serving nine years as air traffic controller and Drill Sergeant in the India Burma and Central Burma campaigns, earning the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Service stars.
He also tried out for the Cleveland Indians after high school and played during his time in the Army and for various area teams, including the Fageol team until 1950. He loved to read and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Geisinger); sons, Jere of San Francisco and Tom (Donna), Ed, Ronald and Chuck (Mary Kay), all of Kent; daughters, Cynthia of Santa Fe, N.M and Florence Sitko, Mrs. John (Michelle) Martin and Mrs. Dan (Pam) Ray, all of Kent; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Steve (Ruth) of Hiram; and sister Mrs. Doug (Charlotte) Hurd of Richfield. His brothers James, Edward and Stanley died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Robert Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Ola Mae Sannin
Ola Mae Sannin, 70, of Newton Falls, died Monday, June 8, 1998 at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
Born June 6, 1928 in Canada, Ky., she was the daughter of Benjamin F. and Fannie C. (Smith) Chapman.
She was a member of Community Free Will Baptist Church in Canal Fulton.
Survivors include sons, Danny of Willowwood, Benjamin of Florida and Paul (Vicki) of Lake Milton; four grandchildren; and sisters, Mrs. Trula Hendrick of Massillon and Dixie Turner of Vero Beach, Fla. Her husband, Elmo Jr., whom she married May 4, 1946, died May 10, 1980. Her son Jimmy, four brothers and one sister also died previously.
Calling hours will be held one hour prior to 11 a.m. Thursday services at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Vaughn Cemetery in Lake Milton.
Effie Marsh
Effie I. Marsh, 81, formerly of Newton Falls, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998 at Glenview Manor Home in Mineral Ridge.
Born January 8, 1917 in Upshur Co., W.Va., she was the daughter of William and Ida (Thompson) Harris. Formerly of Buchanan, W.Va., she moved to Newton Falls in 1943.
Mrs. Marsh was a seamstress.
She was a member of the First Church of God in Newton Falls and enjoyed gospel music and playing the piano.
Survivors include her sons, Eddy of Warren and Larry of Southington; daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Barnhart of Newton Falls and Karen Thomas of Vienna; seven grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Marvin, whom she married on November 16, 1936, died June 28, 1992. Her sons Marvin and Donald, brothers Harvey, Charles and Floyd, and sisters Thankful and Cosby also died previously.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery.
Pascal Norman
Pascal J. (P.J.) Norman, 62, of Bartow, Fla., died Monday, June 8, 1998 at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla.
Born March 3, 1936 in Shock, W.Va., he was the son of Boyd and Ella Norman. Formerly of Spencer, W.Va., he moved to Bartow in 1987.
Mr. Norman was a truck driver with Gray Trucking.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; son, Damon of Gandeeville, W.Va.; stepsons, Robert Blosser of Taeys Valley, W.Va. and Charles Blosser of Lesage, W.Va.; daughters, Ramona Nichols of Iron Station, N.C., Andrea Turner of Charlotte, N.C., and Melinda Cantebury of Walton, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren; brother, Stanley W. Norman of Ravenna; half-brother LaRon Conley of Southington; and sisters, Della Southward of Marion, Ohio and Neva Bill of Mount Gilead, Ohio. His brothers Orval, Denver and Haymond all died previously.
Services are pending.
David Hunter
David Lee Hunter, 62, formerly of Ravenna, died Friday, June 5, 1998 in Virginia.
Born Jan. 17, 1936 in Ravenna, he was the son of Freeman and Mildred (Seeley) Hunter.
A former Ravenna resident, Mr. Hunter was retired as a systems developer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his brother, Ronald of North Canton; and sister, Linda Snyder of Clinton.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
Arlene Cozart
Arlene L. Cozart, 80, of Suffield, died Monday, June 8, 1998 following an extended illness.
Born June 17, 1917 in Smithville, W. Va., she was the daughter of Clem E. and Emma LaVerna Brewer. She and her husband had lived in Ohio since 1950.
Survivors include her husband, C. Allen, whom she married June 21, 1942; son, Stephen (Aleta) of Suffield; daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Emily) Salvatore of Libertyville, Ill. and Mrs. Arthur (Michele) Fach of East Canton; and 10 grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the Thursday services at the Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville. Pastor Jim Shuman will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Peace Cemetery in Hartville.
Glenn Day
FAIRHOPE, PA - Glenn M. Day, 67, died Sunday, June 7, 1998 at Canemauh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pa. after a short illness.
Born June 15, 1930 in Fairhope, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Hannah (Hutzell) Day. He had lived in Ravenna for several years until moving to Fairhope 25 years ago.
Mr. Day had been a painter at Ametek in Kent.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy, whom he married in 1953; sons, Larry, Gary (Cindy) of and Donald, all of Fairhope; daughters, Judy (Edward) Kisciky of Shalersville; Vicki (Glen) Stemple of Ravenna; nine grandchildren; brother Jacob of Fairhope; sisters, Mary Baer of Fairhope, Martha Valarinos of New York City and Janet Twigg, Shirley Smith Helen Natcher, all of Ravenna.
His sons, Glenn and Jerry, and several brothers and sisters all died previously.
Calling hours were held Monday and will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Deaner Funeral Home in Berlin, Pa., where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Mt. Zine Cemetery in Fairhope, Pa.
Worthy Cottrill
Worthy W. Cottrill Sr., 68, of Newton Falls, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
Born June 21, 1929 in W. Va., he was the son of John and Lenora Cottrill.
Mr. Cottrill was a press operator at Harbison-Walker in Windham until he retired.
He was a member of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his sons, Worthy Jr. of Warren and Robert of Orwell; daughters, Kim Boyce of Windham, Sandy Cottrill of Warren, and Judy Pritt, Wretha Cox and Tracy Kelm, all of Newton Falls; 13 grandchildren; brother, Roy of Bridgeport, W.Va.; and a sister. His brother, Welch, died previously.
Services are being arranged by Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls.
Elizabeth Peko
DEERFIELD - Elizabeth Peko, 83, died Saturday, May 30, 1998 at her home following a short illness.
Born February 16, 1915 in Germany, she was the daughter of G. and Anna (Rademacher) Goldner.
Mrs. Peko was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Paul's Church.
Survivors include her stepsons, Alexander of Concord, Douglas of Lyndhurst and Matyas Jr. of South Russell. Her first husband, Jose Tannenmayer, died in 1963 and her second husband, Matyas Peko Sr., died in 1982.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Dean's Funeral Home, 256 W. Ohio Ave., Sebring, with the Rev. John Graham officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Beulah Gibbs
Beulah I. Gibbs, 83, of Dover, , died Tuesday, June 2, 1998 at Hennis Care Centre following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 27, 1915 in Dundee, Ohio, she was the daughter of Charles and Pearl (Mumma) Burkholder.
Survivors include her son, Stan (Joyce) of Dover; daughters, Barb Swegheimer of Dover and Grace Luthy of Streetsboro; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Joann) Burkholder of Canfield; and sisters, Grace Thompson of Ravenna and Gloria Loewen of Norman, Okla. Her husband, Kenneth H., died Jan. 15, 1991. A brother, Simon Burkholder, grandson, John Jay Luthy, and great-grandson, David S. Luthy, also died previously.

Patricia Stahre
Patricia A. (Leach) Stahre, 67, of North Fort Myers, Fla., the mother of Mrs. Ed (Linda) Waller of Kent, died Sunday, May 31, 1998 at her home.
Born Sept. 12, 1930, in Euclid, Mrs. Stahre was a former Chesterland resident.
In addition to Mrs. Waller, survivors include her husband, Robert E..; son, Dale (Patty) Stahre of Euclid; daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Kimberly) Riedel of Chesterland; nine grandchildren; and half-sister, Barbara Leach of Euclid;.

Louis Schneider
Louis M. Schneider, 60, of Savannah, Ga., husband of former Ravenna Township resident Carol (Ard) Schneider, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, in Savannah, Georgia after a brief illness.
Mr. Schneider was an insurance claim adjuster.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Louis Jr. of Louisiana and Kyle of Savannah; and daughter, Julie of Savannah; brother, Dick of Florida; and sister, June of Florida.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held today in Savannah.

George Vair
CHARLESTOWN - George E. Vair, 87, who retired from the Charlestown Township road crew at the age of 85, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born May 16, 1911 in Charlestown, he was the son of Charles and Hattie (Bradfield) Vair. He was a life resident of Charlestown.
Mr. Vair retired in 1972 as a truck driver for Kaplan Trucking in Cleveland. After retiring, he worked 23 years for the Charlestown Township road crew, retiring in 1996.
He enjoyed camping and belonged to Good Sams Camping Club, a nationwide organization.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine, to whom he was married 63 years; daughter, Sandra (Roger) Platt of Charlestown; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Linda (Frank) McClintock of Garrettsville, and Ruby Pringle of Rootstown. A brother, Glenn, and sister, Elsie Busse, died previously.
There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place. Private burial will be in Charlestown Township Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

George Dragich
MANTUA - George N. Dragich, 71, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at his home.
Born Aug. 20, 1926 in Parksville, Pa., he was the son of George and Mildred (Vocovich) Dragich. He had lived in Mantua for 35 years.
Mr. Dragich retired in 1997 from the Ford Motor Co. in Walton Hills, where he was a welder repairmen.
He was an avid hunter, gardener and accordion player.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Rae (Schuman); sons, George of Mantua and Michael of Fort Myers, Fla.; daughter, Diane Cheryl (William) Gadomski of Streetsboro; one grandchild; brothers, Melvin of Northfield, Martin of Mantua and Peter and Alexander of South Carolina; sisters, Elizabeth Matela and Stella Sharp of Pittsburgh, Cathy Liss of Florida and Martha Ann Rains of Austintown. His brothers, Michael and Louis, died previously.

Timothy Peterson, 12
Timothy P. Peterson, 12, of Mantua, died Saturday, May 30, 1998 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident Saturday afternoon on Diagonal Road in Shalersville Township.
Born May 15, 1986 in Westminster, Calif., he was the son of Charles and Brenda (Broemsen) Peterson. He had lived in Mantua all his life.
Tim had just completed the fifth grade at Atwater Christian Academy.
He was a member of His Ministry Church in Aurora, where he was a junior usher, a member of the Gospel Team and the Nursing Home Ministry, and he sang with the Children's Church Choir. His love of singing was shown both at his church and at school.
He played left field and third base for the Shalersville Diamondbacks Baseball Team.
Survivors include his parents and his sister, Rebecca, all of Mantua; paternal grandparents Harold Jr. and Gloria Peterson of Aurora; maternal grandmother Cara Broemson of Mantua; maternal grandfather Edward Broemson Jr. of Emerald Isle, N.C.; great-grandfathers Harold Peterson Sr. of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Edward Broemson Sr. of Rio Hande, Texas; and great-grandmothers Ann Brott of Grandville, Mich., Polly Bramley of Mantua, and Lucy Broemson of Rio Hande, Texas.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at His Ministry in Aurora, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Florence Udell officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Mantua. Green's Funeral Home in Mantua is handling arrangements.
Isabell Jeffreys, 75
Isabell R. Jeffreys, 75, formerly of Silver Oaks, Kent, died Sunday, May 31, 1998 at Portage County Nursing Home in Ravenna.
She was born July 7, 1922 in Kalamazoo, Mich., the daughter of Arthur R. and Gladys A. (McDowell) Ruggles.
Mrs. Jeffreys was an office worker for the veterans administration. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Kent.
Survivors include her brother, James Ruggles of Ravenna, and sister, Genevieve Iivari, of Kent. Her husband, A. Clark Jeffreys, died previously.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Standing Rock Cemetery, with the Rev. Kay Dunlap officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. Arrangements were made by the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.

Alberta Reed, 90
Alberta Reed, 90, of Freedom Township, died Saturday, May 30, 1998 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born August 11, 1907, in Derry, Penn., she was the daughter of Orion P. and Elizabeth (Lloyd) Miller. She had lived in Freedom since 1987.
Mrs. Reed was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons Thomas B. of Fortson, Ga., Robert E. of Moorpark, Calif., Harold of Sparks, Nev., and William of Wintersville, Ohio; and daughters Betty Dragich of Freedom Twp, Alice Giannamore of Steubenville, Regina Turner of Columbus, Mary Chafin of New Cumberland, W. Va., and Barbara Evans of Calif. Her husband, Thomas B., and her son, James, died previously.

Helen Huffman, 89
Helen Huffman, 89, died Saturday, May 30, 1998 at Castle Nursing Home in Millersburg, Ohio after a lengthy illness.
Born in Seville on April 14, 1909, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Weldy) Edell. A resident of the Hiram area since 1991, she had lived in Cleveland most of her life.
Mrs. Huffman was employed for many years as a dietitian at the Broadview Nursing Home in Broadview Heights.
She was an avid reader.
Survivors include her son, William (Stephana) Huffman of Hiram; daughter, Janice Graf, of Parma; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell, in 1980; daughter, Elda Hesser; and brothers, Ray and Roy Edell.
No calling hours will be held. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Brooklyn Heights Cemetery in Cleveland with the Rev. Michael LaRusa of New Life Chapel in Seven Hills officiating. Green's Funeral Home in Mantua is handling arrangements.
