Richard Kilbourne
Former Kent resident Richard A. "Dude" Kilbourne, 78, of Mesa, Ariz. died April 9 in Mesa.
Born Nov. 20, 1919 in Kent, he was the son of Edward R. and Clora Kilbourne. He lived in the area until moving his family to Mesa in 1955.
Mr. Kilbourne was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School and Kent State University and taught at Roosevelt and Hudson high schools. He also served as principal at Randolph High School. After moving to Mesa, he served as a school administrator.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alice, of Mesa; daughters, Margaret Motes and Deborah Blackman, both of Arizona; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Clinton "Ike" (Catherine) of Kent; and sister-in-law, Ruth Kilbourne of Cuyahoga Falls.
His first wife, Ruth Longsworth, brothers, Roger and Charles "Cockey," and sister, Ethel Palazzo, all died previously.
Services were held April 11 at Melcher's Chapel of the Roses in Mesa, Ariz.

Cindy Clow
Dr. Cindy Clow, 37, a former Kent resident who worked for the Kevin Coleman Center in Kent, died Sunday in Lexington, Ky., after being injured in an automobile accident.
Born Aug. 6, 1960 in Youngstown, she was a daughter of George and Elizabeth A. (Lennox) Clow. A former Girard resident, she lived in Kent for 10 years until she moved to Lexington six years ago.
Dr. Clow was a clinical psychologist who specialized in psychotherapy of adult women, forensic psychology and the treatment of troubled children. She was employed by Comprehensive Care of Lexington.
As an undergraduate at Kent State University, she participated in the KSU honors program in psychology and obtained her bachelor's degree Summa Cum Laude in 1984. She received her master's and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from KSU as well.
She had worked in the mental health care field since her student days at KSU, starting in the mid-1980s. Most of her clinical work was done in community mental health agencies, including the Kevin Coleman Center in Kent.
She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral of Lexington, and was a friend of the Unitarian Church of Lexington.
Survivors include her sister, Linda Batcha of Youngstown. Her parents and a sister, Margaret Susan Aigler, died previously.
Visitation will be held from noon until services at 1 p.m. Saturday at McClurkin Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., Girard. The Rev. Jane McDermott will officiate.
Memorials may be made to area animal shelters.
Opal Hawthorne
Former Atwater resident Opal M. Hawthorne, 86, of Canton, died Wednesday.
Born on July 14, 1911 in Shadyside, Ohio, she was the daughter of Arthur and Julia (Piper) Menges. She formerly lived in Cleveland, Alliance, and California.
Mrs. Hawthorne was a former dental assistant.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Glen, died in 1955.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Monday at the Canton Christian Home. Chaplain Ron Iwanusa will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Beliot. Local arrangements were made by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Atwater Chapel.

Casmir Jakubowski
MANTUA - Casmir "Casey" Jakubowski, 80, died Thursday at Barberton Citizens Hospital after a period of failing health.
Born March 4, 1918, in Cleveland, he was the son of Steven and Josephine Jakubowski. He was a life resident of Mantua.
A self-employed dairy farmer, Mr. Jakubowski retired in 1975. He also worked at Joy Manufacturing in Solon for several years after retiring.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mantua.
Survivors include his wife, Enid; stepson, Byron Hutchison of Streetsboro; and sister Stella Smyles of Bedford. His wife, Rosemary, died in 1982. His brother, Joseph Jacobs, and sisters, Helen Hybil, Frances Mariejwski, and Laura Nieucytek, also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where services will be held at noon Monday. The Rev. Thomas McCarthy will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township.
Carrie Moore
Carrie E. Moore, 77, of Ravenna died Thursday.
Born Dec. 10, 1920 in Clarksburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of Jacob and Missouri A. (Rogers) Hefner.
Mrs. Moore operated an answering service from her home for many years. She also was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting blankets and photo album covers.
Survivors include her daughters, Charlene Hurley and Mrs. Charles (Patricia) Mays Sr., both of Ravenna; one grandchild; and sisters, Evelyn Shewell of Edinburg and Rosalie Aristide of Kent. Her husband, Charles, one granddaughter, brother, James, and sister, Virginia Bradfield, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 1 p.m. until services at 3 p.m. Saturday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. The Rev. Carl Holm and the Rev. Phillip Miller will officiate.

Mabel Winkler
Mabel E. (Luedy) Winkler, 89, of Sardis, Ohio, who taught at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent from 1937 to 1947, died Wednesday at Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville, W.Va.
Born April 11, 1909 in Sardis, she was the daughter of Henry and Lydia (Reusser) Luedy.
Mrs. Winkler was known as Mabel Luedy when she taught English, science, social science and home economics at Roosevelt. She later was an associate professor of education at Kent State University until she retired.
She was a graduate of Wisconsin State University and KSU.
Survivors include her husband, Harry R.; and sister, Emma Moser of Woodsfield. Three brothers and three sisters died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rush Funeral Home, 125 Clarinda Drive, Clarington, Ohio, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Zion Memorial Garden in Sardis.

Adam Adams
MANTUA - Adam Adams, 88, died Saturday at Bedford Medical Care Center in Bedford after a period of failing health.
Born Feb. 23, 1910 in Poland, he was the son of Walter and Helen (Miskiewicz) Adams. A Mantua resident since 1980, he formerly lived in Chagrin Falls and South Russell.
Mr. Adams was employed in management at TRW in Cleveland for many years until he retired in 1972.
Survivors include his wife, Veronica L. (Mituniewicz); son, Carl F. of Indiana, Pa.; daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Janet) Osborn of Mantua; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be announced later. Arrangements were made by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Alvin Henderson
PALMYRA - Alvin K. ("Red") Henderson, 95, died Monday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born March 10, 1903 in Canonsburg, Pa., he was the son of Christopher C. and Catherine (Hilton) Henderson. He had lived in Palmyra for more than 50 years.
Mr. Henderson had worked as a pipemaker for Universal Sewer and Pipe Co. in Diamond.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice (Jordan), to whom he was married 50 years; adopted son, Ernest Bray of Warren; and adopted daughter, Janice Jordan of Warren.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m.until services at noon Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. The Rev. Carl Holm will officiate. Burial will be in West Cemetery in Palmyra.
Kenneth Wayne Walters
Former Rootstown resident Kenneth Wayne Walters, 40, of Craig Beach, died unexpectedly Monday at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown.
Born Oct. 17, 1957 in Ravenna, he was the son of Clifford and Lois (Hunt) Walters. He had lived in Craig Beach for five years.
Mr. Walters had worked as a steel mill equipment designer at Tech-Link of Solon. He was serving on assignment at Danielli-Wean in Austintown.
He was a 1976 graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion at Ravenna Post No. 331. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria "Vickey" (Klink); sons, Ross, twins Joseph and William, all at home; parents, Clifford and Lois Walters of Kent; and sister, Mary Kay of Florida.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Patrick Russell officiating. A private burial will be held.
Serva infant
Isaac Austin Serva, the son of Michael and Jessica Lynn (Myrla) Serva, was stillborn Saturday at Alliance Community Hospital.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his grandparents, John and Brenda Serva of Brimfield, Teresa Myrla of Randolph and Jesse Myrla of Pennsylvania; and great-grandparents, Marilyn Serva of South Carolina, Paul and Beverly Dick of Florida, Bill and Margaret Sexton of Pennsylvania and John and Marilyn Myrla of Pennsylvania.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield, with the Rev. Steve Thornton officiating. Arrangements were made by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Mary Kolody
GARRETTSVILLE - Mary Kolody, 87, died Tuesday at her home after a long illness.
Born Nov. 13, 1910 in the Ukraine, she was the daughter of John and Catherine Bezruczka. A Garrettsville area resident for more than 25 years, she formerly lived in Mantua.
Mrs. Kolody and her late husband, John, operated a dairy and beef farm for many years in the Garrettsville area.
A homemaker, she enjoyed growing roses.
She was a memberof St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Solon.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Gary (Christina) Pierce of Mantua Township; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Anastais Rudko of England. Her husband, John, died in 1986.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 27275 Aurora Road in Solon, with the Rev. Jaroslaw Mychajlenko officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hiram. Arrangements were made by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Robert Stanley
Robert M. Stanley, 71, died Sunday at Altercare of Ravenna.
Born May 6, 1926 in Windham, he was the son of Harry G. and Grace (Waller) Stanley. He was a life resident of Windham.
Survivors include his brothers, Earl R. of Potomac, Md., and Fred of Newton Falls; and sisters, Mildred Martin of Newton Falls and Maxine Adolf of Cuyahoga Falls. His brothers, Carl, Claude and Roger, and sister, Phyllis Garland, died previously.
Private burial and graveside services will be held at a later date in Windham Township Cemetery. Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home, Garrettsville, is in charge of arrangements.

John L. Knapp
RANDOLPH - John L. Knapp, 69, died Saturday at his home.
Born Dec. 5, 1928, in Randolph, he was the son of Oscar and Ollie Knapp.
Mr. Knapp's career in the construction industry spanned 47 years. He rose from equipment operator to division manager of the heavy highway group at Ruhlin Company in Akron.
He was a life member of St. Peter of the Fields Church in Rootstown. He was well-known in the civic community, a devoted family man, and he enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Dias), to whom he was married for 44 years; sons, Randall (Vickie) of Lima, Jeffrey (Lori) of Atwater, Daniel (Allison) of Sarasota, Fla., Kurtis (Judy) of Barberton, Stephen (Jennifer) of Suffield, and Bradley of University Heights; daughters, Mrs. Lee (Bonnie) Jenior of Rootstown, Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Larson of Medina and Mrs. Craig (Linda) Edington of Rootstown; 16 grandchildren; brothers, Paul, Richard, and Raymond; and sisters, Edna Nuzzo, Alice Mattes, Mary Jane Knapp, Betty Sorboro, and Rosemary Kintz. His son, John, brothers, Roy and William, and sister, Dorothy, died previously.

Leonard Smith
Leonard L. Smith, 74, of Ravenna, died Sunday at his home.
Portage County Coroner Roger Marcial has ruled the death a suicide.
Born March 23, 1924 in Leinarts, Tenn., he was the son of Daniel and Mary L. (Hainey) Smith. He had lived in Ravenna for 41 years.
Mr. Smith was as an automaker at the Walton Hills Plant of the Ford Motor Co. until he retired.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Eagles and Moose lodges and Veteran of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Wilson), to whom he was married 50 years; sons, Michael (Denise) of Ravenna and Jerry (Sheila) of Washington;daughters, Patricia (Dave) Stonestreet, Judy (Gary) Jones and Debbie (Larry) Burton, all of Ravenna; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Alvin D. of Ravenna and Raymond of Tennessee; and sister, Virginia Davidson of Tennessee. Paul Mullenax
Paul W. Mullenax, 63, of Barberton, died Saturday at Akron General Hospital after a long illness.
Born Jan. 7, 1935, in Pennsylvania, he formerly lived in Akron. He had lived in Barberton for three years.
Mr. Mullenax was a retired Parker-Hannifin Co. machinist.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Grace; son Jon, of Akron; and daughter, Paula, of Akron.
No services will be held. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the residence of Marie Radish, 482 Adkins Ave., Akron. Green's Funeral Home in Mantua handled the arrangements.
Mayme Dye
Mayme M. Dye, 85, of Nelson, died Thursday of natural causes at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville.
Born April 15, 1912 in Braxton Co., W. Va., she was the daughter of James Gordon and Rhonda V. (Duvall) Bragg. She had been a Nelson resident since 1941.
Mrs. Dye was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Nazarene Church of Windham.
Survivors include her stepmother, Ruth Bragg; sons, Hollis D. of Nelson, Darrill Berlin of Southington, Ronald G. of Nelson and Dennis L. of Newton Falls; daughters, Barbara G. Nottingham of Strange Creek, W. Va., Evastine M. Cutsail of Deland, Fla. and Eloise L. McCauley and Patricia A. Quiggle of Nelson; half brothers, Darrill Bragg of Leavittsburg and Melvin Bragg of Fowler; half sisters, Mildred Jones of Newton Falls, Minnie Swaggart of Girard, Mary Gorgesky of Warren, Phyllis Laird of Fowler and Susan Fresher of Champion; 39 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Berlin Holis Dye, whom she married October 15, 1931, died March 1, 1987. Her son, Claudius J., brother, Marvin Bragg and sisters, Mabel Ballard and Madge Springsteel also died previously.
