William Fuller
Former Kent resident William J. Fuller, 76, died Saturday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center-Wade Park in Cleveland after a long illness.
Born June 30, 1921 in Kent, he was the son of Charles A. and Grace M. (Hynton) Fuller. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent in 1939.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in World War II and the Korean War. He served aboard such ships as the U.S. Saratoga and the Bonhomme Richard, traveling extensively across the globe. He retired from the Navy in 1958.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
In his retirement, he enjoyed his grandchildren, reading, walking and following Cleveland's professional sports teams.
Survivors include his son, W. John (Diane) of Avon Lake; two grandchildren; brother, Charles of Melbourne, Fla.; and sisters, Anne Gardner of Kent and Beatrice "Beatty" Aldridge of Eustis, Fla. His brother, Richard, and sister, Rita M. Scheinoha, died previously.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Zita Jazorak
Zita Brothermel Jazorak, 93, of Warren, died Sunday at home.
Born Jan. 29, 1904 in Kent, she was the daughter of James and Catherine (Westrick) Magargee. She was formerly of Ravenna and the Windham-Newton Falls area.
Mrs. Jazorak retired in 1970 from the dietary department of Trumbull Memorial Hospital after 15 years. She also was employed in the custodial department of St. Cyril and Methodius Church and School for 10 years.
Mrs. Jazorak was a member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church.
Survivors include her sons, James Rothermel of Santa Fe, Texas, George Rothermel of Jacksonville, N.C., and Stanley Rothermel of Circle City, Ariz.; daughters, Catherine Lachowski of Warren, Eva Flaviani of Howland and Theresa Fenster of Casper, Wyo.; 32 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Mrs. Agnes Rothermel of Randolph. Her first husband, George Rothermel, died in 1957; her second husband, Joseph S. Jazorak died in 1970. Her sons, Francis, Patrick, Bernard and Thomas Rothermel, daughter, Rose Mary Nelson, two brothers and two sisters died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, Warren, with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church, preceded by a 9 a.m. service at the funeral home. Burial to be in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

Wallace R. "Wally" Pierce
MANTUA Wallace R. "Wally" Pierce, 86, retired president of Mantua Grain and Supply Co., died Sunday at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna after a period of failing health.
Born Aug. 3, 1911 in Mantua, he was the son of Gillman and Lucy (Tinker) Pierce. A lifetime Mantua area resident, he was a graduate of Mantua Center High School in 1929 and then attended Hiram College where he graduated in 1935 with a degree in business administration.
Mr. Pierce was the president of the Mantua Grain and Supply Company which he operated for many years, overseeing the operations of locations in Mantua, Aurora and Troy. He retired from the business in 1993 and sold it to Tom and Durfee Aldrich, who operate it today.
He was a longtime member of the Hilltop Christian Church in Mantua, a charter member and past president of the Mantua Rotary Club, a member and past president of the Ohio Cutting Horse Association and a member of the National Cutting Horse Association. An avid bridge player, he was the founder of the Mantua Men's Bridge Club.
An active Mason, he was a member of Mantua Masonic Lodge No. 533, serving two terms as Master. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Valley of Cleveland, a member of the Al Koran Temple, Cleveland, for more than 50 years and a member of Mystic Chapter No. 32, Order of Eastern Star in Mantua.
Survivors include his wife, Dorthea (Mayhew), whom he married June 22, 1937; sons, Ted M. (Amy) Pierce of Jerusalem, Ohio, and Dale E. (Jody) Pierce of Aurora; sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Mary) Webker of Florida and Mrs. Frank (Ruth) Hammel, Jr. of Mantua; and six grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where a Masonic service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Will Stackhouse officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township.
Carmella E. Nagella
Carmella E. Nagella, 93, of Ravenna, died today at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville.
Born Sept. 1, 1904 in Benevento, Italy, she was the daughter of Anthony and Maria Secola. She was a lifelong Ravenna resident.
Mrs. Nagella had worked at the Cleveland Worsted Mills in Ravenna. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna and the Italian American Society.
Survivors include her sons, James of Ravenna, Albert of Texas and Anthony of Mantua; daughters, Helen Nowacki of New Jersey, Angie Reedy of Ravenna, Viola Coleman of Cincinnati, and Frances Carroll and Joan Vitale, both of Twinsburg; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Rose Fisher of New Jersey and Concetta Secola of Italy. Her husband, Paul; son, Jimmy; two grandsons; brothers, Michael and Peter; and sister, Maria, died previously..

Taimi T. Musgrove
NELSON - Taimi T. Musgrove, 77, died Sunday at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren after a long illness.
Born May 25, 1920 in Windham, she was the daughter of Gust and Amanda (Palojoki) Peterson. She was a life resident of Windham.
Mrs. Musgrove was a homemaker.
She was a member of Nelson United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Dennis D. of Nelson; and three grandchildren. Her husband, Donald "Chick" Musgrove, died in 1983. Her son, Richard, daughter, Donna, and brothers, Ivy, John and Onie Peterson, died previously.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until services at noon Tuesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, with the Rev. Dwaine Stanley officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.
David Beatty
David Beatty, 37, of Parkman, died unexpectedly Sunday of natural causes at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Services are being arranged by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.
Dr. Marvin Koller
The Kent State University Department of Sociology will honor and remember Dr. Marvin Koller at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 in Room 221 of KSU's Merrill Hall.
Dr. Koller, a pioneer in the study of the sociology of humor and a KSU faculty member for more than 40 years, died Nov. 8, 1997, at the age of 78.
He is remembered as a scholar, teacher, gerontologist, artist, humorist and friend. In 1986, he was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award from the Kent Alumni Association.
The service will follow an open forum format to give colleagues, students and friends a chance to share their recollections of Dr. Koller.
Phyllis Lyle
Phyllis A. Lyle, 70, of Ravenna, died Thursday at Akron City Hospital.
Born June 20, 1927 in Youngstown, she was the daughter of George and Lila Robbins.
Mrs. Lyle worked as an elementary school special education teacher at Rootstown Elementary School. Prior to that, she taught at Athens Middle School and at Aurora Elementary School.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Ravenna and the National Organization of Women. She volunteered at the Center of Hope in Ravenna, at Planned Parenthood and the Ravenna Preschool. She was an avid gardener and belonged to several garden clubs.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. William Lyle, to whom she had been married since 1949; son, Randall of Kent; daughters, Roxana Lyle of Ravenna, Nena Lalich of Cincinnati and Aimee Lyle of Kent; and 10 grandchildren. A brother and sister died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Grace Episcopal Church, Ravenna with the Rev. Gaye Jennings officiating. Private burial will take place.

Betty Jane Scheffel
Betty Jane Scheffel, 73, of Diagonal Road, Kent, died Thursday at Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Born Oct. 13, 1924 in Bedford, she was the daughter of George and Maxine (Stancliff) Yost.
Mrs. Scheffel taught at Lake County, Twinsburg, Hudson and Ravenna schools. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Streetsboro.
Survivors include her husband, Chester, whom she married Jan. 2, 1946; son, Gary (Kathy) of Streetsboro; daughter, Mrs. John (Vickie) Mathews of Timmonsville, S.C.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, George Yost of Chagrin Falls; and sister, Wilma Hull of Franklin, N.C. Her brothers, Richard, Nelson and Joe Yost, died previously.

Olive Holliday
Olive "Pug" Marie Holliday, 68, of Silverton, Ore., died Dec. 19, 1997 in Silverton.
Born Feb. 1, 1929 in East Freedom, Pa., she moved to Silverton in 1955 from Whittier, Calif.
Mrs. Holliday volunteered for Next to New in Silverton. She was also a member of Assembly of God Church in Silverton.
Survivors include her daughters, Carol Satrum of Silverton, Ore. and Susan Fairchild of Eugene, Ore.; four grandchildren; brother, John Kuhns of Freedom, Pa.; and sisters, Esther Ferguson of Silverton, Ore. and Alma Hosterman of State College, Pa.
Services were held Dec. 22 at Assembly of God in Silverton, Ore. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery in Silverton, Ore.

Lucinda Wheat
Lucinda "Cindy" Grafton Wheat, 48, of Florence, Arizona, formerly of Ravenna, died Tuesday in Tucson, Ariz. following a long illness.
Born in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Hildred (Teaford) and George Grafton. She graduated from Ravenna High School.
Mrs. Wheat was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Dave of Florence; son, Troy (Heather) of Apache Junction, Ariz.; daughters, Brandy (Mike) Burnett of Parsons, Kan., and Candy Wheat of Pueblo, Colo.; four grandchildren; mother, Mrs. George Grafton of Streetsboro; brother, Monty (Jennifer) Grafton of Streetsboro; and sisters Jackie (Jack) Giulitto, Linda (Blaine) Baldasare and Tracy (Bryan) Wright, all of Ravenna and Tammy (Ron) Thompson of Ashland. Her father, George Grafton, died previously.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Simes Mortuaries Florence Chapel, P. O. Box 366, Coolidge, Ariz. 85228, with the Rev. Steve Vaughn officiating.
Rev. A. Elaine LePoris
The Rev. A. Elaine LePoris, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ravenna since 1995, died Wednesday in Akron following a struggle with lymphoma and pneumonia.
Born in Alliance, she attended Boardman schools and was a graduate of Clarion College and the University of Pittsburgh. She did postgraduate work in biochemistry at the State University of New York at Plattsburg and received her master of divinity from Hamma School of Theology. She was ordained at Weaver Chapel in Springfield on Nov. 13, 1976.
Rev. LePoris was an ordained pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Northeastern Ohio Synod. Prior to coming to Ravenna, she served Lutheran parishes in Lancaster, Arcadia, Springfield, Fairlawn, Casstown, Massillon, Akron and Enon, Ohio.
Survivors include her brother, Frank Rich of Niles; and sisters, Bobbie Wittkugle of Struthers and Joann Laurie of Mentor; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ravenna with Bishop Marcus J. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

Ethel Kilby
Former Parkman resident Ethel Kilby, 84, of Takoma Park, Md., died Wednesday at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma.
Born Jan. 30, 1913 in Dekalb, Ill., she was the daughter of John and Dagmar (Lehtonen) Urpi.
Mrs. Kilby was a homemaker. She also had worked at General Electric at Nela Park in Cleveland and was a waitress at Post House Restaurant.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a former "Miss Parkman."
Survivors include her daughters, Carol of Takoma, Md., Alice Khalif of Olney, Md. and Deborah of Parkman; two grandchildren; and sister, Lila Pettengell of Charlotte, N.C. Her husband, Henry C., whom she married in 1945, died Jan. 11, 1967. Her brothers, Donald, Uno and Wilho and sisters, Allie Pavlick and Helvi Harwath, also died previously.

Ruth Seither
SHALERSVILLE - Ruth G. Seither, 75, died Wednesday at Akron General Medical Center after a long illness.
Born July 14, 1922 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Sreal and Helen (Arnold) Thomas. She had lived in Shalersville for three years. She formerly lived in Ravenna and Bedford.
Mrs. Seither retired from National Pottiers in Bedford, where she was a floral arranger.
She had served as president of AFL-CIO Local No. 411 in Bedford Heights for more than 20 years.
Survivors include her sons, Donald of Garrettsville, and Louis "Butch" of New Orleans, La.; daughter, Susan Marks of Shalersville; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Thomas of Ravenna; and sisters, Shirley Griffith of Mantua and Linda Sykes of Louisiana. Her husband, Donald, died in 1984. Two grandchildren and her sisters, Jean Black and Marilyn Wagner, also died previously.

Charlotte Hobson
Charlotte M. Hobson, 65, of Ravenna, died Tuesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a battle with cancer.
Born June 18, 1932 in Uhrichsville, Ohio, she was the daughter of William A. and Grace I. Brown. Formerly of Streetsboro, she had lived in Ravenna for 10 years.
Mrs. Hobson worked as a clerk at Fisher's Big Wheel in Ravenna and last was a dispatcher for the Streetsboro Police Department. She most recently was employed as a clerk for Hills Department Store in Kent.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna and its Willing Workers Class. She attended the Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minn.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred, to whom she had been married for 44 years; sons, Joseph of North Port, Fla., John Mark of Ravenna and James of Brimfield; daughter, Valorie Adkins of Kent; three grandchildren; brothers, Vernon of Augusta, William of Tuscon, Ariz. and Russell of Minerva; and sisters, Pauline Huff of Tuscon, Ariz., and Pearl Dunbar and Carolyn Kandel, both of Minerva.

Marjorie Edwards
Marjorie L. Edwards, 92, of Ravenna, died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born July 27, 1905 in New Harmony, Ind., she was the daughter of Lorren and Elizabeth (Schutz). She had been a Ravenna resident since 1945.
Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna.
Survivors include her daughter, Nadine Bezilla of Berlin Center; three grandchildren; and sisters, Anna Shaw of Nevada, and Mary Millroy and Aleda Miller, both of Indiana. Her husband, Harris, and daughter, Elizabeth, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Poremba officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
Morrell Gale
SHALERSVILLE - Morrell F. Gale, 76, died Wednesday at Kent Quality Care Nursing Center.
Born March 5, 1921 in Cleveland, he was the son of tFrancis and Fay Gale. He had lived in Shalersville since 1978.
Mr. Gale retired from the City of Akron Water Works Department.
He was a member of the Summit County Grange.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Anita (Seivert); and son, Keith William of California. A daughter, Lynn, died in 1975.
Private services have been held . Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmstead. Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
