Richard Pope
Richard Lewis Pope, 59, of Ravenna, died Sunday of natural causes at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a sudden illness.
Born March 16, 1938 in Youngstown, he was the son of Paul E. and Rose (Budinsky) Pope. He had lived in Ravenna all of his life.
Mr. Pope had worked as a mechanic for Cipra Ford in Ravenna and most recently worked as a truck mechanic for Portage Distributing until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Diane (Moore); sons, Chad of Indiana and Dutch of Ravenna; daughters, Mary and Tamara, both of Ravenna and Rainette Humphries of Colorado; mother, Rose Pope of Florida; eight grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Ann Stauffer and Gloria DeSimone, both of St. Petersburg, Fla. His brother, Paul E. Jr. died previously.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Marie Moody
MANTUA - Marie Moody, 93, died Saturday at Altercare Nursing Home in Ravenna.
Born July 24, 1904 in Germany, she was the daughter of Adam and Anna Neumann. She had been a Mantua resident for the last 42 years and was formerly of Cleveland.
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Jarjabka of Mantua; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Her son, Robert, died in 1978. One great-grandchild also died previously.
There will be no calling hours. A private family graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville with the Rev. Thomas McCarthy officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.
Virginia Kresge
Former Streetsboro resident, Virginia M. Kresge, 104, died Saturday at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.
Born Oct. 13, 1893 in Independence, she was the daughter of Frank and Myra (Packard) Fritz.
Mrs. Kresge had been a seamstress at the May Co.
She was a member of the Streetsboro United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Eastern Star. She was a foster mother to 25 children.
Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Merrill (Phyllis) Wise of Streetsboro and Hester Wigington of Brookpark; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Roy F., died in 1991.
Visitation will be at noon Tuesday followed by services at 1 p.m. at the Baker Funeral Home, 206 Front St., Berea. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.
Howard Hayward
Howard F. Hayward, 77, of Ravenna, died Sunday at Altercare Nursing Home in Ravenna.
Born in Bellaire, Ohio, he was the son of John and Lula (Hoefer) Hayward Sr. He had lived in Canton before moving to Ravenna 10 years ago.
Mr. Hayward was a member of the First Christian Church of Ravenna.
Survivors include his brothers, Chester of California and Paul of Ravenna; and sister, Betty Hollabaugh of Ravenna. His sisters, Mabel Haskins and Margaret Stockett, and brother, John, all died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Maple Grove Cemetery Chapel in Ravenna.
Arrangements are being handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Bryan Searls
SUFFIELD - Services will be held Tuesday for Bryan J. Searls, 36, of Waterloo Road, Suffield, who died Monday at Akron City Hospital in Akron after being injured in an automobile accident in Suffield.
He was born Aug. 25, 1961 in Ravenna.
Survivors include his son, Adam Wilson of Springfield Township; mother Joanne (Strayer) Schmidt of Suffield; father Oran Edward Seals; brothers William of Copley and Charles of Suffield; sister Kathleen of Suffield; and many aunts and uncles. His stepfather, Roger A. Schmidt, died in 1994.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Randolph, with the Rev. Edward Wieczorek officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Arrangements are being handled by Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent.
Memorials may be made to the family.
John Kristoff
FREEDOM - John J. Kristoff II, 39, died Tuesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a truck accident at the intersection of S.R. 14 and S.R. 88 in Ravenna.
Born Oct. 20, 1958 in Cleveland, he was the son of John J. and Mary (Chainey) Kristoff of Freedom.
Mr. Kristoff was a mechanic at Level Propane in Rootstown. He also had worked at Geauga Lake for several years.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years, was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife Margaret V. "Peggy" (Metz), whom he married June 23, 1984; sons, John Joseph III and Andrew Grant, both of the home; parents, John J. and Mary (Chainey) Kristoff of Freedom; and brothers, Kenneth J. and Thomas Michael, both of Freedom and Ricky Scott of Ravenna. His grandmother, Mary Prokay, and uncle, John Krupansky, died in 1996.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Dwaine Stanley officiating. Burial will be in Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom.
Richard K'Meyer
MOGADORE - Richard D. K'Meyer, 71, died Tuesday.
Born in Mogadore, he was a life resident of the area. He was the son of Richard and Glenna K'Meyer.
Mr. K'Meyer was a pharmacist. He retired from Bumpus Drug in Tallmadge in 1993 and also had worked at Peoples Drug.
He was a member of Springfield Church of the Brethren and the Summit County and Ohio State Pharmaceutical Associations. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; sons Randy (Connie) of Medina, Tom (Darlene) of Ravenna, and Steve (Astrid) of Seattle; daughter, Julie of Mogadore; eight grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Ellen Shull of Mogadore, and Harriet Johnson of Florida.
Calling hours will be held from 1 p.m. until services at 3 p.m. Friday at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Mogadore. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore.

Noreen Cooper
Former Portage County resident Noreen M. Cooper, 78, died Sunday at her daughter's home in East Norriton, Pa., where she had been living with her husband for six months.
Born Sept. 15, 1919 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Floyd and Margarette (McDonald) Morgan. She had lived in Aurora before moving to Streetsboro in 1967.
Mrs. Cooper worked as a ward secretary for Anna Maria Nursing Home in Aurora until she retired and became a homemaker.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Streetsboro and enjoyed oil painting.
Survivors include her husband, Barney J. Sr., to whom she had been married for 61 years; sons, Barney J. Jr., of Brady Lake, Walter (Carrie) of Albany, Ga., Herman (Shirley) of Hudson, and Harry (Kathy) of Streetsboro; daughters, Martha Coady of East Norriton, Pa., Mrs. Eugene (Jean) Pfendler of Geneva, Ohio, Mrs. Ron (Sandra) Rose of Streetsboro, Mrs. Bud (Frances) Phillips of Arkansas, and Mrs. Travis (Madonna) Rickard of Shalersville; 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Marjorie Carmello of Streetsboro. Four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a daughter-in-law and step-father Lewis Sherman all died previously.

Rev. A. Laten Carter
The Rev. Alvin Laten Carter Jr., 81, who became the first full-time minister of the United Christian Fellowship at Kent State University in 1947, died Tuesday at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring.
Born April 2, 1916 in Hollister, Mo., he was the son of Alvin Laten Carter Sr. and Edith (Martin) Carter.
Rev. Carter came to the Kent area after six Protestant churches formed the United Christian Fellowship, an interdenominational student program which was organized to meet the spiritual needs of KSU students during the era of growth on the campus which followed World War II.The program is now known as United Christian Ministries.
A minister in the Eastminster Presbytery, Rev. Carter was a graduate of Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., graduated from McCormick Seminary in Chicago and did postgraduate education at Temple University in Philadelphia and at Oberlin College.
After leaving Kent in 1951, Rev. Carter became pastor of Salem First Presbyterian Church, then served with the Presbyterian Board of Christian Education from 1959 to 1963. He then served as executive director of Ohio United Ministries of Higher Education until 1972, when he became pastor of Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, a position he held until he retired in 1982. He moved to Copeland Oaks Retirement Center in Sebring in 1988.
He was a chaplain in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Rhea (Hohlt), whom he married Aug. 31, 1941; son, Richard H. of Kent; daughters, Rebecca Modrell of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jane of Cincinnati and Amy of Denver; five grandchildren; brother, Joe of Missouri; and sister, Betty Thompson of Marshall, Mo. His son, Robert Laten Carter, died previously.
Memorial services were held Friday in Salem. Burial was in Venice Cemetery in Ross. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati. Arrangements were made by Stark Memorial Funeral Home in Salem.

Josip Mozer
Josip Mozer, 84, of Ravenna, died Friday at his home.
Born July 8, 1913 in Yugoslavia, he was the son of Ivan and Julia Mozer. He came to the United States in 1952 and had lived in Ravenna for 31 years.
Mr. Mozer retired as a grounds supervisor at Kent State University in 1979.
Survivors include his sons, Tony and John, both of Ravenna, and Steve of Macedonia; daughters, Mary McQuain and Angela Strickland, both of Ravenna; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Menka Valencak of Croatia. His wife, Elizabeth, died in June 1990. A brother and two sisters died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, with William Wisniewski officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
Abigail Booher
Abigail Marie Booher, the 24-day-old daughter of Howard J. and Debra E. (Fisher) Booher, died Thursday at Aultman Hospital in Canton after complications due to premature birth.
Abigail was born Nov. 24 in Canton.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her twin sister, Alexa Jordan of Randolph; grandparents, Howard D. Booher of Randolph, Phyllis Booher of Cuyahoga Falls and Kay Fisher of Rootstown; and great-grandparents, Henry and Kay Krahling of Akron and Jenny DeLanzo of New Castle, Pa.
Private services will be held for the family. Arrangements were made by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Neale Craig
Neale Craig, 77, of Kent,died Thursday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 16, 1920 in Summerfield, Ohio, he was a son of Franklin F. and Glenna L. (Barnes) Craig. He moved to Kent seven years ago after living in Palmyra for 35 years.
Mr. Craig was employed by Rockwell International in Newton Falls as a die setter.
He attended Palmyra United Methodist Church and was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 530, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3332 in Newton Falls and the Ohio Harness Horseman Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ruthe (Hannahs), to whom he was married 51 years; sons, Carlin (Melissa) Craig of Harvey, La., Al (Joyce) Kuss of Palmyra, Chad (Mariann) Craig of Bellville, and Craig (Rebekah) Craig of Louisville, Ky.; daughters, Charlene (Daniel) Hall of Black Mountain, N.C., Cathie (Richard) Barry of Mt. Morris, N.Y., and Connie (David) McCullough, of Lexington, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; and brothers, Carroll of Cambridge, Jerry of Columbus and Eddie of New Albany, Ohio. Two brothers and a sister died previously.

Elsie Nelson
Elsie Loraine Nelson, 73, of 4352 Church St., SW, Braceville, died Thursday at her home.
Born Oct. 7, 1924 in Bellview, Ky., she was the daughter of Elmer and Leona (Sharp) Phipps. A former Newton Falls resident, she had lived in Braceville since 1950.
Mrs. Nelson was a housewife.
She was a member of Braceville Christian Church, Braceville Senior Citizens, Trumbull County Genealogy Society and Ohio Genealogy Society. She enjoyed knitting, reading and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her husband, Chester, whom she married Nov. 20, 1948; son, Richard C. of Newton Falls; daughter, Dolores Ann of Bainbridge; six grandchildren; and sister, Jean Dolores Phipps of Louisville, Ky.

Ann Andresh
STREETSBORO - Ann Julie Andresh, 76, of Streetsboro, died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Aug. 11, 1921 in Canonsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Donato and Julia (DePaulo) DeVitis. She had lived in Streetsboro for44 years.
Mrs. Andresh was a registered nurse. She retired from Western Reserve Psychiatric Hospital (formerly Hawthorden) in Sagamore Hills.
Survivors include her sons Michael Garlisi of Mentor, Phillip Garlisi of Streetsboro and John H. Andresh Jr. of Streetsboro; daughters Anna Marie Mellor of Streetsboro, Mrs. Thomas (Julie) Aquila of Concord and Charlotte Ragan of Akron; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Mary DeVitis, Viola Cerenzia, Yvonne DeVitis, and Marie Natale, all of Canonsburg, Pa. Her husband, John Andresh Sr.; brothers John, Pete and Dan DeVitis; and sister, Carmell Malone, died previously.

Erma Bell Hull
Erma Bell Hull, 59, of 17812 Woodland Ave., Lake Milton, died Tuesday at home.
Born May 30, 1938 in Toronto, Ohio, she was the daughter of James Richard and Vona Anna (Ammond) Snowden. A former Niles resident, she had lived in Lake Milton for two years.
Mrs. Hull was a homemaker.
She was a member of Pleasant Valley Church in Niles. She enjoyed collecting bells.
Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Neil (Cheryl) Howdershelt of Lordstown, Mary Christopher, Mrs. Jesse (Toni) Ruby, Vona Brown and. Virginia Brown, all of Lake Milton, and Susan Brown of McDonald, Ohio; seven grandchildren; stepmother, Antoinette Snowden of Warren; four brothers and five sisters. A great-grandson, Derek Boggs, died previously. Two brothers and a sister died previously.

Paul May
Paul H. May, 80, of 7616 Mines Road, Howland, died Wednesday morning in Community Skilled Care Center, Alliance.
Mr. May was born Jan. 6, 1917 in Colebrook, a son of Walter C. and Mary Alice (Rice) May, and moved to the area in 1939.
He had been employed bty the former Republic Steel Corporation for 30 years in the 56 inch Hot Strip Mill, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 295, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran, seerving in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Portage County native Lucille (Lansinger Hillier) May, whom he married in 1954; son Paul L. Hillier Jr. of Beloit; two grandchildren; three great grandchilldren; sister M. Lenore May of Cortland; and several relatives from Portage County.
Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Reese-Winn-Winyard-McDermott Funeral Home in Niles, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
Brother James Kline
Services have been held in Dayton for Brother James H. Kline, 88, who died Dec. 10 in Dayton.
Born June 10, 1909 in Randolph, he was the daughter of John D. and Louisa Kline.
Brother James was a member of the Society of Mary for 69 years. He professed his first vows in the society in 1928 and his perpetual vows in 1932. He was a brother in the religious order.
He earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Dayton in 1935 and a master's degree in education from the University of PIttsburgh in 1945.
In 1947, he came to the University of Dayton to work in the treasurer's office as a purchasing agent, custodian of property transpiration and food service director. While in the treasurer's office, he was involved with the university's expansion with enrollment growing from 2,000 to 10,000 students. During his tenure, 21 buildings were added, and 10 others were renovated on campus.
He also taught at Chaminade High School in Dayton from 1930 until 1935; served at Immaculate Conception School in Washington D.C. as principal and teacher from 1935 until 1938; at Incolegio San Jose in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico from 1938 until 1940; and at North Carolina High School in Pittsburgh as principal and teacher from 1940 until 1947.
Survivors include his sister, Mildred Hilgert of Randolph. His brothers, Sylvan, Ernest, Roy, Raymond, Herman and Stanley, died previously.
Services were held at Queen of Apostles Chapel in Dayton, with burial in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Dayton.
Robert Shardine
Former Suffield resident Robert V. Shardine, 74, the brother of Mrs. Walter (Betty) Lang of Twin Lakes, died Dec. 10 in Santee, Calif. of a heart attack.
Born Jan. 6, 1923 in Suffield, he was the son of Justin and Edith (Hughes) Shardine.
In addition to Mrs. Lang, survivors include his son, Robert (Barbara) of Lakeside, Calif.; and two grandchildren. His wife, Anne, died April 30.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Dec. 23 at Fort Rosencrans in San Diego. Burial will be in a military park at Fort Rosencrans.
