Nina Hall
Nina A. (Penny) Hall, 88, a former Portage County resident, died Wednesday in Demorest, Ga.
Born Aug. 30, 1909 in Edinburg, she was the daughter of Calvin and Dora Penny. She was a longtime resident of Florida, then moved to Georgia.
Survivors include her son, Leroy Taylor Hall, to whom condolences may be sent at 13729 N. Magnolia Ave., Citra, Fla. 32113; daughter, Doris Jean Bisted of Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Calvin Penny, and sisters, Lena Sprinkles and Elma Van Winkle, all of Ohio. Her husband, Taylor Brainard Hall, son, Elwood C., one grandchild, three brothers and three sisters died previously.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at Kingdom Hall, 2138 Double Ridge Road, Cleveland, Ga. Flowers for the service may be sent to 549 Garrett Road, Demorest, Ga. Another memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Kingdom Hall, Mercer Ferney Road, Deland, Fla. Flowers for the service may be sent to 291 Reynolds Road, Deleon Spring, Fla.

Rebecca Stone
Services will be held Tuesday for Rebecca "Becky" Stone, 14, of Mantua, a former Windham resident, who died unexpectedly Friday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born July 19, 1983, in Warren, she was the daughter of Dennis Gray and Cheryl Stone.
Rebecca enjoyed sports and participating in the marching band.
In addition to her parents survivors include her brother, David Honzu of Freedom; and grandparents, William Stone of Warren, Mary Stone of Warren, and Beverly Gray of Freedom.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 tonight at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Drakesburg Cemetery.

Anna Browning
AKRON - Anna Lou Stout (Shay) Browning, 80, of Akron died Monday at the Hospice Care Center in Akron.
Born March 7, 1917, in Fort Gay W. Va., she was the daughter of the Rev. Perry E. Stout and Elsie Brown Stout. She lived in Akron and Bridgeport, W. Va. a major portion of her life.
Browning was an accountant at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 21 years until she retired in 1967. She also was a co-owner of Shay's Grocery store in Akron.
She was a founding member of the Faith Fellowship Church in Clarksburg, W. Va. and she volunteered extensively at the Veteran's Hospital in Clarksburg. She had a love for cooking and growing roses.
Survivors include a son, Orray Nelson (Bev) Shay II of Deerfield; daughters, Bettie (Joe) Amoroso of Stow, and Charlene (Jon) Vohs of Cuyahoga Falls; a stepson, Donald (Miriam) Browning of Lake Ridge, W.Va.; stepdaughter, Patty Sands of Clarksburg, W. Va.; 13 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and many great- and great-great grandchildren; two brothers, the Rev. Edward Joseph and Dave Bernard, both of Akron; and a sister, Rosemary Stout of Virginia. Her first husband, Orray N. Shay I of Newburg, W. Va.; her second husband, C. Arden Browning of Marbleton, W. Va.; and a daughter, Donna Kay Jackson, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow, and from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday at the Church in Silver Lake, 2951 Kent Road (S.R. 59). Services will be held at noon at the church with a lunch following at 2 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, 44333; or to the Alzheimer's Association, 157 W. Cedar St., Akron, 44307.

Emil Vogias
Emil J. Vogias, 72, of S.R. 43, Kent, died Monday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born May 19, 1925 in Lakewood, he was the son of George and Ann M. (Berchak) Vogias.
Mr. Vogias was a graduate of Dyke and Spencerian Business College and was in the automobile business for 50 years. After his retirement, he was a consultant for Kinko's of Kent.
He served as a first class machinist mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal with two stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star.
He was a member of the Kent Lions, Kent Area Chamber of Commerce, Portage County Auto Dealer Association, Ford Grandmasters Sales Organization, and president of the Service Managers Council of Cuyahoga County. He also was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Bernice J. (Popadak); sons, Emil J. (Debbie) Jr. of Mantua, David (Tari) of Kent, and Christopher (Julie) of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughters, Cynthia Smith and Rebecca Vogias, both of Kent; and six grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Church with the Rev. Joseph Ruggieri officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Jack Henry
Jack Henry, 73, of Barberton, died Monday at Akron Manor Care after a long illness.
Born April 18, 1924 in Akron, he was the son of Joseph and Susan (Heffelfinger) Henry. He had lived in Akron for many years before moving to Barberton.
Mr. Henry was employed as a security guard in Portage and Summit counties for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Darlene (Robert) Seaver of Springfield Township; two grandchildren; and sisters, Lillian Wines of Arizona and Helen (Ed) Kuhns of Akron. Four brothers and two sisters died previously.
No calling hours will be held. Graveside services will be held at noon Friday at East Akron Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Wilbert Fullum
Wilbert E. Fullum, 77, of Kent, died this morning.
Services will be announced by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Lester Sommers
ROOTSTOWN - Lester C. Sommers, 79, died Saturday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Nov. 29, 1917, in Harmon, Ohio, he was the son of Elmer and Verda (Mishler) Sommers. He had lived in Rootstown for 55 years.
Mr. Sommers was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron.
A World War II veteran, he served more than four years with a medical unit in the U.S. Army's Third Division, commanded by Gen. George S. Patton.
He was chosen in 1995 to represent other Portage County World War II veterans at a statewide commemoration of the 50th anniversary of World War II held in Cleveland. He was a past commander of Portage County Disabled American Veterans No. 26.
He was a member of Rootstown United Methodist Church, a member and inner guard of Ravenna Elks Lodge No. 1076, a member of the Foreman's Club at Goodyear and the Elks Golf League. He was a former member of the Ravenna Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Leah (McManus), to whom he was married 51 years; sons, Lester Jr. (Julie) of Portage Lakes and John (Bille Jo) of Ravenna; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother, Bradley of Windham. Four brothers an two sisters died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where an Elks service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Orian Aubihl officiating. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mary Rogalsky
BRADY LAKE - Mary Louise Rogalsky, 81 of Wunderlich Avenue, died Saturday at her home.
Born Dec. 2, 1915 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Kessler and Hazel (Lovell) Hirt.
Mrs. Rogalsky had owned and operated Mary Lou's Beauty Shop.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Kent and its Mary Reed Circle, Olive Chapter No. 53 Order of the Eastern Star, the Emblem Club of the Elks, American Legion Auxiliary, TOPS, of which she was past president;Akron Mud Hens and the Brady Lake Women's Club. She formerly was a Camp Fire and Girl Scout leader and was a former chairman of the Portage County Red Cross.
Survivors include her husband, Adam W., whom she married Sept. 7, 1952; daughters, Heidi Smith of Kent and Pam (Bruce) Rogalsky Cannon of Brady Lake; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother, Harold Hirt of Bay Village. Her brother, Edwin Hirt, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent and from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church of Kent, with the Rev. Dr. David Palmer officiating. Eastern Star services will be held at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Alda Gordon
PARIS - Alda Estaline "Curly" Gordon, 68, died Saturday at Hospice Care Center in Copley.
Born June 15, 1929 in Newton Falls, she ws the daughter of Harry E. and Erma E (McClain) Moss. She had lived in Paris Township for 50 years.
Mrs. Gordon was a homemaker and helped with the family business, Gordon and Sons Saw Mill in Paris.
She was a member of Newton Falls Church of God, where she helped with the missions. She also was a member of Paris Ruritans for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur C., whom she married Dec. 21, 1946; son, Dave of Paris; daughter, Carleen L. Jones of Canfield; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Samuel O. Moss of Lordstown and Charles W. "Bill" Moss of Champion; and sisters, Mrs. John (Ada Ruth) Church of Braceville, Mrs. Robert (Vera) Goode of Allegany, N.Y., and Mrs. Robert (Susie) Hamilton of Newton Falls.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Church of God in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery in Paris.

Francis Baker
Francis E. Baker, 85, of Ravenna, died Friday at Intensive Hospital of Akron in Barberton.
Born Jan. 23, 1912 in Warren, he was the son of Rex and Lida (Higgins) Baker. Reared in Green Township in Trumbull County, he lived in the Warren and Cortland areas for many years. He had lived in Streetsboro before moving to Ravenna.
Mr. Baker was a truck driver for Cooper-Jarrett Trucking Company from 1973 until he retired in 1981. He also owned and operated Baker's Professional Guards, a security business in Streetsboro.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Portage County.
Survivors include his son, Jerry (Kathleen) of Randolph; and sisters, Bernice Drake of Espyville, Pa., and Helen Brewer of Warren.
There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were made by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Tom Loomis
BRIMFIELD - Tom Loomis, 39, of Brimfield, died Sunday.
Services will be announced by the Wood Kortright Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.
The Portage County coroner's office is investigating the cause of death.

Jack Henry
Jack Henry, 73, of Barberton died Monday at Akron Manor Care Nursing Home.
Services will be announced by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Lois Harmon
BRIMFIELD - Lois Dorine Harmon, 66, of Sandy Lake Road, died Tuesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born April 17, 1931 in Brimfield, she was the daughter of Howard and Marjorie (Rearick) Shellhorn.
Mrs. Harmon retired from Roadway, where she had worked as an auditor, in September.
She was a member of Victory Baptist Temple in Brimfield.
Survivors include her sons, David (Patti) of Ravenna Township, Mark (Linda) of Stow and Scott of Brimfield; daughter, Mrs. Vince (Amy) Crookston of Cuyahoga Falls; two grandchildren; brothers, Robert Shellhorn of Rootstown and Courtland Shellhorn of Sun City, Ariz.; and sister, Virginia Partin of Muncie, Ind. Her husband, Marvin C. "Danny," died in January. Her brother, Howard Shellhorn, died previously.
Calling hours will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Victory Baptist Temple, with the Rev. Mark Mohler officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Brimfield.

Shirley Silva
Shirley Silva, 71, of Jefferson Street, Ravenna, died Wednesday at Hospice Care Center of Copley.
Born Aug. 31, 1926 in Geneva, N.Y., she was the daughter of Robert and Ada (Stone) Mosher.
Mrs. Silva was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent, where she was active in the Ministry for the Sick.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph, whom she married July 25, 1958; sons, Jerry Clark of Kent, Mike Piotrowski of Kent and Steve Piotrowski of Riverside, Calif.; brother, Robert Mosher of Ravenna; and sisters, Jane Nutkins of Homer, N.Y. and Ada Oursler of Homer, N.Y.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Church in Kent, with the Rev. Joseph Ruggieri officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Myrtle Palmer
Myrtle E. Palmer, 84, of Kent, died Monday at her home.
Born May 31, 1913 in Durbin, W.Va., she was the daughter of Albert and Mae (Westfall) Ash. She had been a Kent resident most of her life.
Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Frank (Connie) Dennis of Stow and Sue Ciancio of Virginia; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters. Her husband, John, died previously.
Private family services were held this morning at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel. Burial was in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Jill Grubaugh
STREETSBORO - Jill A. Grubaugh, 62, died Tuesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born May 31, 1935 in Barberton, she was the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Snyder) Jantz.
Mrs. Grubaugh was a school bus driver for the Streetsboro and Hudson school systems until she retired.
Survivors include her son, Hoy III of Streetsboro; daughter, Zandra Boepple of Vermillion; and three grandchildren. Her husband, Hoy E., died in 1992.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro, with the Rev. Robert Sabatino officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel.

Elsie Bishop
EDINBURG - Elsie S. Bishop, 86, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter in Ravenna.
Born Oct. 28, 1911 in Edinburg, she was the daughter of Elmer and Hattie (Phile) Shilliday. She lived most of her life in Edinburg and made her winter home in Ridge Manor, Fla.
Mrs. Bishop was a homemaker.
She was a member of Edinburg United Church and attended All Faith's Church in Ridge Manor, Fla.
Survivors include her sons, Alan of Edinburg and Richard of Bay Port, Fla.; daughter, Gayle Meyer of Ravenna; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Susie Hicks of Ravenna. Her husband, Paul, died in 1964. Three brothers died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Edinburg Cemetery, with the Rev. Ruth Chartier officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Betty Hamley
Former Mantua resident Betty M. Hamley, 64, of Bradenton, Fla., died Monday at her home.
Born Aug. 1, 1933 in Streetsboro, she was the daughter of Edward and Mildren (Hanson) Brittan. She had lived in Florida for the past 22 years.
Mrs. Hanley was employed in the trust department of Northern Trust Bank in Sarasota, Fla., for 15 years.
She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bingo and clogging.
Survivors include her sons, Gary (Vivian) of Erie, Pa,. and Mark of Orlando, Fla.; daughter, Diane (Glenn) Walls of Mantua; three grandchildren; mother and stepfather, Midred and Freeman Thompson of Ravenna; brother, Dale Britton of Kent; and sisters, Marilyn Reynolds of Hudson, Patricia Foust of California and Darlene Armentrout of Ravenna.
Calling hours will be held from 10:30 a.m. until services at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua. The Rev. Will Stackhouse will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Mantua.

Mary Conrad
MANTUA - Mary A. Conrad, 79, died Tuesday at Hospice Care Center in Fairlawn.
Born Jan. 12, 1918 in Portage, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Anna Kristoff. Formerly of Maple Heights, she had lived in Mantua for eight years.
Mrs. Conrad was a homemaker. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mantua.
Survivors include her sons, Bernard A. (Barbara) of Roy, Wash., Guy M. (Gerry) of Exeter, N.H., and Mark A. (Virginia) of Canton; daughters, Mary Ann (Thomas) Painley of Mantua, Kathleen (Robert) Zoldak of Wooster and Georgette (Michael) Fries of Picayune, Miss.; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where prayer services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mantua, with the Rev. Thomas McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, 44333.

Stephen Holecko
Stephen J. Holecko, 80, of Newton Falls, died this morning at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.
Services will be announced by Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls.
