Lewis Miller
WINDHAM - Lewis B. Miller, 74, died Saturday at his home.
Born March 16, 1923 in Shock, W.Va., he was the son of Lewis Leroy and Estella (Rider) Miller. Formerly of Garrettsville, he had lived in Windham for three years.
Mr. Miller was employed at Rockwell Standard in Newton Falls for 27 years. Healso worked at the Chrysler Stamping Plant in Twinsburg for 10 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member and co-founder of the Church of Christ in Windham, where he served as an elder.
He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Iva (King), whom he married Aug. 19, 1941; son, John of North Canton; daughters, Jayne Dutter of Windham, Jean Moore of Wheeling, W.Va., Carol Riley of Warren and Anne Summers of Morgantown, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Vernon of Billings, Mont., Robert Sr. and Earl, both of Shock, W.Va., and Michael of Lockney, Ohio; and sister Gertrude Wilson of Malta, Ohio. His brothers, Ray and Harley, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Windham Church of Christ. Burial will be in Windham Township Cemetery.

Mary Marjorie Davis
Mary Marjorie Davis, 89, of Ravenna, died Saturday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Aug. 13, 1908 in Columbus, she was the daughter of Walter and Lenore (Smith) Newhall. She had lived in the Ravenna area for more than 40 years.
Mrs. Davis had worked as the chief deputy for the Portage County Treasurer's Office.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, Business and Professional Women's Association and Ravenna Sorosis.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Drugan of Ravenna; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Her husband, Oscar "Dave," died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. Robert Sabatino officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Ravenna.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Immaculate Conception Church school scholarship fund.
Opal King
Opal L. King, 67, of Ravenna, formerly of Cleveland, died Saturday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna
Survivors include her sons, Thomas of Cleveland and Gary of Ravenna; daughters, Mary (Roger) Amos of Ravenna, Joyce (Jake) Bragg of Cleveland and Kathy Burgess of Cleveland; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Margaret Massey of Marion, Loretta "Janie" Cadle of Cleveland, Peggy Cook of Ravenna and Helen Ruth Adkins and Dixie Hamilton of West Virginia. Her husband, Vernon C., son, Vernon Lee and five brothers died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Ripepi Funeral home, 5762 Pearl Road, Parma, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland.
Thomas Finch
ROOTSTOWN - Thomas H. Finch Sr., 61, died Saturday at Altercare of Ravenna.
Born Oct. 11, 1936 in Ravenna, he was the son of George and Alice (Crum) Finch. He had lived in Rootstown most of his life.
Mr. Finch was employed at Allen Aircraft in Ravenna.
He was a member of Ravenna Moose Lodge 1234 and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his sons, Tim (Dawn) of Edinburg, Tom (Jane) of Ravenna, and Mark (Rowena) of Rootstown; daughter Mrs. David (Christina) English of Atwater; seven grandchildren; brothers George and Ray of Ravenna, Bob of Mesa, Ariz., and Jack of Rootstown; sisters, Kathryn Bormuth of Kent and Wanda Nicklas of Akron; and former wife Dolores Williams of Ravenna. His brother Don died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Sam Goebel officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
Forest Hobson
AURORA - Forest G. Hobson, 85, died Sunday at his home.
Born in Sparta, Wis., he had lived in Aurora since 1985. He previously lived in Cleveland.
Mr. Hobson was a fuel service engineer and mechanic for J.J. Turner Co., where he worked for 32 years until he retired in 1977.
Survivors include his sons, Richard P. and Thomas E.; daughters, Nancy O'Brien, Mary Szasz and Patricia Textoris; six grandchildren; and brother, Eire "Dutch." His wife, Lois (Niday), died in May 1987.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kindrich-McHugh Steinbauer Funeral Home, 33375 Bainbridge Road, Solon. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Aurora.

David Cobourn
STREETSBORO - Services were held today for David M. Cobourn, 59, who died Thursday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Aug. 30, 1938 in Rahns, Pa., he was the son of Clarence R. and Helen (Isbrecht) Cobourn. He had lived in the area since 1970.
Mr. Cobourn worked as a crane operator at LTV Steel in Cleveland.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his sons, David of Highpoint, S.C., and Dan (Pattie) of Streetsboro; daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Cyndy) Stanevich of Willowick; five grandchildren; brothers, Robert of Florida and Alan of Conshohocken, Pa; sister, Helen Murphy of Conshohocken, Pa.; and former wife Glenda Cobourn.
Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.
Kathleen Coz
Kathleen Coz, 73, of Kent, died Friday at her home.
Born Aug. 28, 1924, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary (McPartlin) Bronson of Stow. She was a longtime Kent resident.
Mrs. Coz held many business and teaching jobs throughout her life.
She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent.
Survivors include her son, John, at home; daughters, Mary of Kent and Mrs. Sean (Patricia) Shay of Hilliard; and brother, Robert Bronson of Munroe Falls. Her husband, John, died in 1973. Two sisters also died previously.

Kathleen Coz
Calling hours will be held tonight for Kathleen Coz, 73, of Kent, who died Friday at her home.
Mrs. Coz was born Aug. 8, 1924, the daughter of Robert and Mary (McPartlin) Bronson of Stow.
She held many business and teaching jobs throughout her life and was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent.
Survivors include her son, John, at home; daughters, Mary of Kent and Patricia (Sean) Shay of Hilliard; and brother, Robert Bronson of Monroe Falls. Her husband, John, died in 1973. Two sisters also died previously.

Estelle Arnett
STREETSBORO - Estelle Arnett, 74, died Friday at her home.
Born Sept. 19, 1923, in Jefferson City, Tenn., she was the daughter of Dewey and Buena (Hanes) Holt. Formerly of Michigan, she had lived in Streetsboro since 1960.
Mrs. Arnett was a homemaker and a member of the Streetsboro Community Chapel.
Survivors include her husband, Carl A., to whom she was married for 52 years; daughter, Lynn Arnett of Streetsboro; brothers, William and Vertis Holt, both of North Carolina and Harmon Holt of Tennesee; sisters, Essie Holt of North Carolina and Wilma Barnes and Ann Jones, both of Michigan. His brother, Joseph, died previously.

Mary Davis
Mary Marjorie Davis, 89, of Ravenna, died Saturday at Robinson Memorial Hospital.
Services will be announced by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna chapel.
Katherine Phelps
FREEDOM - Katherine L. Phelps, 82, of Freedom, died Saturday at Grand Valley Country Manor in Windsor.
She was born May 21, 1915, in Greenville, Pa., the daughter of Claudius and Mary (Gibson) Schade.
Mrs. Phelps was a secretary.
She is survived by sons, Ralph Delroy of Marietta and Phillip Sherman of Orwell; daughters, Lois Jean Fryman of Marietta and Judith Stevens of Windham; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty I. Parker of Cortland. Her husband of 41 years, Dillen D. Phelps, died in 1991. Her brother, Claude, also died previously.

Marie Ziegler
Marie J. Ziegler, 72, of Ravenna, died Saturday morning in Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 26, 1925, in Ravenna, the daughter of Roy and Georgette (Raquet) Ziegler. She was a lifelong Ravenna resident.
She owned and operated Ravenna Accounting and Tax for more than 45 years. She was also co-owner of Bohecker's Business College.
She is survived by brother, Frank (Dottie) Ziegler of Freemont, Calif.; sister, Gilberte Bart of Willoughby Hills; nephews, Bob Ziegler of Minot, N.D., and Paul (Colleen) Ziegler of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; nieces Mrs. John (Suzanne) Wood of Short Hills, N.J., and Barbara Ziegler of Cuyahoga Falls; one great niece; one great nephew; and Lois Hansen, a friend with whom she lived for 37 years.

Meredith Culp
Meredith Anne Culp, 48, of Kent, died Friday at her home in Kent.
She was born in Paterson, N.J., the daughter of Sally and Sidney Menk. She grew up in the Bronx and Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and Newton, Mass.
Mrs. Culp earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and a Master of Arts in teaching from the College of Wooster where she played on the tennis team and taught inner city children in Philadelphia during an urban field experience. She also learned the art of pottery making and was the college's last Color Day Queen.
Mrs. Culp taught first grade in Nashville, Ohio, was a childcare worker at Boys Village in Smithville and developed and ran the ceramic program at Weaver Workshop in Tallmadge, where she worked for 20 years.
She enjoyed gardening, photography, pottery and chocolate making.
She is survived by her husband, Joel; son, Jamie; daughter, Rachel; father and stepmother, Sid and Lucy Menk; and brothers, Glen and Tim Menk.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St., Akron.

Sandy Shively
Sandy D. Shively, 54, of 1080 State St. N.W., North Canton, died Friday at her home after a three-year illness.
Born Sept. 7, 1943 in Salem, she was the daughter of Virgil E. and Violet (Stanley) Weingart. She was a 1961 graduate of Southeast High School and a 1963 graduate of Bohecker's Business College in Ravenna.
Mrs. Shively was a member of the Church of God in North Canton.
Survivors include her mother, Violet Weingart of Sebring; and sister Judi Yeager of Naperville, Ill. Her husband, Richard, who she married Oct. 15, 1971, died Nov. 13, 1996. Her father also died previously.

David Coburn
STREETSBORO - David M. Coburn, 59, died Thursday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.

Helen Slagle
WINDHAM - Helen Jean Slagle, 72 of Windham, died Tuesday at her residence following a brief battle with cancer.
Born August 11, 1925 in Bryan, Pa., she was the daughter of Andrew Clyde and Fannie (Rupp) Cogley. Formerly of New Kensington, Pa., she had lived in Windham for 43 years.
She was employed by the Windham School District for five years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Windham for 43 years, where she had served as a Deacon, a trustee and a choir member. In September she had received an appreciation award for many years of outstanding service. She was a member and past president of the Church's Helping Hand Society.
Mrs. Slagle enjoyed gardening, her family and helping others in need.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence M. Slagle, whom she married on April 18, 1942; sons, Ronald E. of Rogers, Arkansas and Robert of Berea; daughter, Bonnie Ferry of Ponca, Neb.; four grandchildren; and sisters Marie Hoffman of Butler, Pa. and Aleen White of Clarion, Pa.
Her parents, brothers Blair and Grant and sisters Lillie Rearic and Aimee Russell died previously.

Charles Woodlee
Charles B. "Snooks" Woodlee, 80, a 46-year Rootstown resident, died Tuesday. Born July 17, 1917 in Tennessee, he was the son of Elmer and Lou (Shook) Woodlee.
Mr. Woodlee was a machinist for the Akron Beacon Journal for many years. He had served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during World War II.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Marjorie Woodlee of Rootstown; niece, Susan McGrath of Rootstown; nephews, Jim Woodlee of Rootstown and Charles Woodlee of Ft. Worth, Texas; and many great nieces and nephews.

Robert Lawrence
STREETSBORO - Robert A. Lawrence, 62, died Tuesday at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 5, 1934 in Ravenna, he was the son of the late Clyde and Elsie (Shumaker) Lawrence.
He had lived in Streetsboro since 1959. He was a lift truck operator for the Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills with 43 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Janice (Bender), to whom he had been married for the past 15 years; stepson, Jeremiah Lawrence of Streetsboro; stepdaughters, Christine Todd of Streetsboro and Jessica Junius of Akron; brother, Ralph of Sardis; sister, Ruth Strock of California; and five step-grandchilren.
His first wife, Carol, and brother, Richard, both died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday with Rev. J.W. Adkins officiating.

Michael S. Giulitto
Michael S. Giulitto, 34, of Ravenna, died Sunday in a farming accident. Giulitto reportedly was working on a piece of farm equipment when his coat became caught in the machine. According to the Portage County Sheriff's Office, Giulitto's coat was caught on the power take off of his tractor. Dr. Roger Marcial, Portage County Coroner ruled the death accidental, caused by mechanical asphyxia from clothing being wound around Giulitto's chest. The accident occurred in the 4500 block of Lake Rockwell Road, between S.R. 44 and Peck Road. The Ravenna Township Fire Department rescue squad was called to the scene at 3:06 p.m. and was on the scene more than an hour. Sheriff deputies were on the scene when the emergency squad arrived. Arrangements will be announced by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna chapel.
Theodore W. Johnson
Theodore W. Johnson, 60, of Nelson, died Saturday at home. Born Sept. 27, 1937 in Painesville, he was the son of William G. and Martha (Ely) Markle Johnson. A former Chardon resident, he had lived in Portage County for the past 17 years. Mr. Johnson was a machinist at Addressograph-Multigraph in Cleveland, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Troy Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army in Japan and the Panama Canal between 1954 and 1959. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Fay (Christine), whom he married Jan. 26, 1980; sons, William Johnson of East Claridon, Ohio, Robert Christine of Tyrone, Pa., Alan Christine of Rock Creek, Ohio and Matthew of Nelson; daughters, Kelly Kutz and Meredith Kish, both of Thompson, Ruth McGowan of Huntsburg, and Amy Christine of Tyrone; 25 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Marcella Acker of Madison, Jean Marie Curry of Fairport Harbor, Agnes Loar of New Lyme and Betty Raymond of Florida.
