Janet R. Borak
STREETSBORO - Janet R. Borak, 57, died Sunday at her home after a short illness.
Born July 25, 1940 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Zastro) Cygan. Formerly of Chicago and Florida, she had lived in Streetsboro forfour years.
Mrs. Borak was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Jim, to whom she was married for 39 years; son, James of Chicago; daughters, Cheri of Streetsboro and Janet Schimmelpfennig of Sanford, Fla.; six grandchildren; brothers, Walter Jr. and Kenneth, and sister, Carol Kearney, all of Chicago.
There will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Chicago. Burial will be in Bethania Cemetery in Chicago, Ill. Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Visiting Nurse Association of Cleveland.
Glen L. Adams
Glen L. Adams, 73, of Ravenna, died Saturday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness.
Born April 11, 1924, in Richland Township, Pa., he was the son of Herbert and Blanch (McCall) Adams. Formerly of Mantua, he had lived in Ravenna for 15 years.
Mr. Adams worked as a custodian for Omega Co. in Ravenna.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his stepdaughters, Angie Wright and Debbie Crookham, both of Freedom Township; four grandchildren; brothers, Robert of Baltimore, Md. and Arnold of Hayward, Calif; and sisters, Rose Smeltz of Pleasantville, Pa., Hazel Fink of Mantua and Helen Kurka of Dorset, Ohio. His wife, Thelma, died in 1989.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 11 am. Tuesday at Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna, with the Rev. Roger Mize officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Greater Portage Area VNA and Hospice.
Myron "Mike" Wirick
STOW - Myron E. "Mike" Wirick, 75, a Kent State University professor emeritus of special education, died Monday in Cuyahoga Falls.
Born March 6, 1922 in North Baltimore, he was the son of Ira and Mary (McCory) Wirick.
Mr. Wirick graduated from Wittenburg University in 1944, where he was a member of Kappa Phi Kappa Fraternity. He did his post graduate work at Columbia University.
He then was a principal at Ottawa Hills High School before becoming a supervisor of teachers in the Cleveland area.
He taught language arts to gifted children and was a member of the Ohio Council International Reading Association.
In 1960, he became professor of special education at KSU, retiring in 1977. Upon his retirement, he became a consultant for Zaner Bloser, a handwriting specialist, and for Newsweek.
Survivors include nieces, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Crow of Wapakoneta, and Joanna Wirick of Toledo; and nephews, Ferd (Connie) Fisher of Atlanta, Ga., and George A. Peronis of Stow.
A memorial mass was celebrated at St. Bernard Catholic Tuesday, with the Rev. Paul Schindler officiating. The Dunn-Quigley-Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home in Stow was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Powers
Clarence M. Powers, 74, of Ravenna, died Saturday at the Longmeadow Care Center of Ravenna.
Born May 9, 1923 in Kentucky, he was the son of Duncan and Della (Vanover) Powers. He lived in Palm Bay, Fla. before moving to Ravenna two years ago.
Mr. Powers was a paratrooper with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a machinist for a rubber factory in Youngstown.
Survivors include daughter, Susan of Youngstown; brother, Allen of Tiffin; and sisters, Okla V. Bishop of Ravenna and Emma E. Ferrell of Akron. His wife, Lorene, died in 1995.
There will be no calling hours or services. Arrangements have been made by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home in Ravenna.
Gail Pownall
STOW - Gail W. Pownall, 93, died Oct. 11.
She was born in Beallsville and had lived in the Stow-Kent area since 1921.
Mrs. Pownall was a 75 year member of First Christian Church in Kent.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Her husband Otto and niece Joy Gidley Eden died previously.
Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church of Kent, 335 West Main Street, the Rev. Lauren O'Dell-Scott officiating. Burial has taken place at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Redmon Funeral Home in Stow.

Louis Glod
Louis J. Glod, 76, of Tallmadge Avenue, Kent, died Thursday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born April 25, 1921 in Hazelton, Pa., he was the son of Frank and Julia Glod.
Mr. Glod worked for Ohio Edison Co. as a truck driver until he retired in 1987.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Armenia N. (Montoni) of Kent; and sisters Ida Orlander, Mrs. Edward (Ann) Palatore and Mrs. Emro (Genevieve) Shivy, all of Hazelton, Pa. His brothers, Joseph, John, Stanley and Anthony and sister, Julia Madefeski, all died previously.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Church in Kent, the Rev. Joseph Ruggieri officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Herbert Fleming
STREETSBORO - Services will be held at 2 p.m. today for Herbert M. Fleming, 71, who died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a brief illness.
Services will be held at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel with Rev. Thomas McCarthy officiating.
Born April 9, 1926 in Cleveland, he was the son of Jessie and Mary (Haines) Fleming.
Mr. Fleming was a coremaker at A.C. Williams in Ravenna.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the VFW in Streetsboro. He attended St. Joan of Arc Church of Streetsboro.
Survivors include sons, Martin (Barb) of Streetsboro, Jessie (Sandy) of Columbus, and James (Robin) of Ravenna; daughters, Patricia (Buddy) Hunt of Florida, Kathleen McCain of Ravenna, Beverly Klonaris and Joan Fleming, both of Streetsboro; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Fleming of Columbus. His wife, Marian E., and a brother, Paul, died previously.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Streetsboro.
Harold B. Mayhew
Former Ravenna resident Harold B. Mayhew, 80, of Bradenton, Fla., died Tuesday.
Born May 17, 1917 in Painesville, he was the son of Benjamin Franklin and Luella Mary (Sage) Mayhew. He had lived in Bradenton for the last 23 years.
He had worked from 1920 to 1957 at Mayhew Elevator Co., which his family owned and operated in Ravenna. He retired from Rockwell International after 15 years as a test technician.
Mr. Mayhew graduated from Ravenna High School and attended Kent State University for two years. He was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie (Owen), whom he married May 16, 1943; son, John of Chino, Calif.; daughters, Mary Lou Johnson of Townsend, Tenn. and Sarah McDaniel of Brea, Calif.; brother, Ellis of Worthington, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His sister, Marion Kurz, died previously.
Calling hours will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Home, Inc. in Cortland, Ohio until funeral services, which begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Sager Memorial Cemetery in Bristolville.

Glenn Carlson
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday for Glenn A. Carlson, formerly of Streetsboro, who died Sept. 17 in Mullins, S.C.
The service will be held at the Knollwood Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 1678 SOM Center Road, Mayfield.
Born June 8, 1931 in Rocky River, he was the son of Glenn and Herthel Carlson. mother survives)
Mr. Carlson was a retired maintenance mechanic, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Hermit Lancaster
SUFFIELD - Hermit "Lank" Lancaster, 75, died Wednesday.
Born in Spencer, W.Va., he lived in Suffield most of his life.
He retired from General Tire and Rubber, where he had worked for 42 years.
He was a member of the Hartville Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel (Cruise), to whom he had been married 45 years; sons, Gary (Julie) and James (Mary Lou Jarrell), both of Suffield; daughters, Clair (Dennis) Hanni of Hartville and Becky (Carl) Wright of Akron; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Mogadore, 34 S. Cleveland Ave., where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Mike Hone officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

Lelah Cowan
Lelah Marjorie Cowan, 84, of Norwood Street, Kent, died Wednesday at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital.
Born Dec. 1, 1912, she was the daughter of Carl and Ellen (Keller) Straight. She earned her bachelor of science degree in Education at Kent State University.
Mrs. Cowan taught in the Atwater and Aurora school districts, and later taught English and music in the Streetsboro schools. After her retirement, she continued as a substitute teacher with the Streetsboro schools.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Streetsboro and Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn, whom she married Aug. 8, 1936; son, Robert C. (Britta) of Munroe Falls; daughter, Mrs. John (Anne Elizabeth) Arbuckle of Spartanburg, S.C.; two grandchildren; brother, Edward Straight of Florida; and sister, Lois Dene Ward of Florida.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Streetsboro, with the Rev. James Cox officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.

John Bernas
John J. Bernas, 82, a resident of Roberto House in Ravenna, died Tuesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a long illness.
Born in Cleveland, he lived in Garfield Heights until moving to Roberto House in 1993.
Mr. Bernas was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program in Garfield Heights, where he was a member of the AARP. He was a member of Ss.Peter and Paul Holy Name Society and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Altar Boys Club and former president of St. Stanislaus Dad's Club.
Survivors include his son, Thomas of Mentor on the Lake; daughter, Patricia Baranowski of Deerfield; five grandchildren; four brothers; and one sister. His wife, Stella, died in 1981.

Normae Jenior
RANDOLH - Normae Jenior, 74, died Monday at Akron General Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Born Jan. 28, 1923, in Medina, she had been a Randolph resident for most of her life.
Mrs. Jenior was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Mogadore Ladies Golf Club and St. Joseph Church in Randolph.
Survivors include her husband, Lamar; sons, Doug (Patsy) of Suffield. Tom (Fab) and Lee (Bonnie), both of Rootstown, and Steve of Randolph; daughters, Mrs. William (Sandra) Huber of Paris and Mrs. Rick (Pam) Purses of Canton; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Mrs. Dale (Eileen) Neal of Silver Lake. Her grandson, Ed Huber, died Oct. 4.

Mary Jane Swerline
Mary Jane Swerline, 82, of Warren, died Tuesday at Community Skilled Nursing Home in Warren.
Born June 11, 1915 in Newton Falls, she was the daughter of Frank and Ida (Wallace) Stewart. She formerly lived in Champion and Newton Falls.
Mrs. Swerline worked for Country Classics for 10 years as a retail clothing clerk until she retired in 1983.
She was a member of the Newton Falls United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Chapter No. 79 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her son, Lee of Newton Falls; daughters, Mrs. Frederic (Linda) Beagle and Mrs. Donald (Kay) Cole, both of Champion; five grandchildren; and sister, Eleanor Burr of Ann Arbor, Mich. Her husband, Albert C., whom she married Jan. 3, 1943, died Aug. 29, 1974. A sister, Elizabeth Seivert, and brother, Max Stewart, also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where an Eastern Star service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Newton Falls United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery.

John McQuaid Sr.
STREETSBORO - John E. McQuaid Sr., 61, died Monday at his home after a long illness.
Born Jan. 8, 1936, in Akron, he was the son of Edward and Marie (McKitrick) McQuaid. He had lived in Streetsboro for 38 years. He was a former Stow resident.
Mr. McQuaid was a machinist for Reuther Mold and Manufacturing in Cuyahoga Falls.
He was a member of Ravenna Moose Lodge No. 1234.
Survivors include his wife, Martina, to whom he was married for 41 years; sons, John E. Jr. of Cuyahoga Falls, Charles L. of Kent and Thomas L. of Rootstown; daughter, Mary L. Schenk of Randolph; eight grandchildren; brother, Bob of Cleveland; and sister, Martha Demiter of Iowa. A brother, Donald, died previously.
