James A. Simpson
James A. Simpson, 81, of Eaton died Monday, Oct. 28, 1996 at Hospice of Dayton.He was a graduate of the Fine Arts Academy of Chicago and studied voice for two years under Oscar Siegel. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he was a bugler and entertained troops with his singing and was a member of the V.F.W. and Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his first wife Hetty and son Timothy. Survivors include his wife Ona Maxine; sons Allen Land of Porter, Texas and Richard Land of New Carlisle; brother Paul of Milebrae, Calif.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton. Barclay Funeral Home, Kettering was in charge of arrangements.
Nettie Mae Davis
Nettie Mae Davis, 97, of 515. S. Maple St., Eaton, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, at Heartland of Eaton. Born Sept. 28, 1899 in Eaton, she was the daughter of Irvin E. and Dora A. (Carico) Davis. She retired from the Excello Corp. and General Motors. She was preceded in death by brothers, Charles E. and Stanley Russell Davis, both in 1975; sisters, Helen Clifton in 1974, Mildred Rothert in 1975 and Alice Darnell in 1978. Survivors include nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Mound Hill Union Cemetery in Eaton with the Rev. Mike McGuire officiating. Barnes Funeral Home in Eaton was in charge of arrangements.
Russell Cook
Russell Cook, 62, of Paint Road, New Paris, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind. Born May 21, 1934 in Ready, Ky., he was the son of John Tilford and Minnie Irene (Elder) Cook. He had worked for Frank Miller Lumber in Union City, Ind. and Elmer Rader in Greensfork, Ind. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Bonnie Lou (Hayes) Cook; sons and daughters-in-law, Russell Joseph and Sue Cook of Lynn, Ind., Christopher Cook and Jimmie Ray Cook, both of Belmond, Iowa, John E. and Julie Cook of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jackson D. Cook of Richmond, Ind., and Marty J. Cook of New Paris; daughters and sons-in-law, Hope R. and Mike Baker of New Paris, Ruth P. and Bill Apple of St. Petersburg, Fla., Serena D. and Chris Short of Richmond, Ind.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jess Cook of Cynthiana, Ky., Bill and Connie Cook of New Paris, Chester and Vida Cook of Richmond, Ind., Roger and Betty Cook of Union City, Ind.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nova and Sam Wilker of Ansonia, Lorene and Lupus Vasquez of Texas, Ageline and Eugene Hardin of Brownsville, Ky., Daisy and Randy Shepherd of Richmond, Ind., Cathrine and Warren Childers of Kentucky; 36 granchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 4 at the Barnes Funeral Home, Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria with the Rev. Gilmer Smith officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens.
Nancy L. Tucker
Nancy L. Tucker, 59, of 5865 Lewisburg-Ozias Road, Lewisburg, died Friday, Nov. 1, 1996 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Born Nov. 12, 1936 in Dayton, she was the daughter of Richard S. and Wilma Geraldine (Albert) Douglass. A 1954 graduate of the Lewisburg Union High School, she has worked as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Brookville. She was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lewisburg; member of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority in Lewisburg; First Dan in the United States Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Joey R. Tucker; daughter and son-in-law, Ann T. and Doug Langenbrunner of Dallas, Texas; and her father, Richard S. Douglass of Lewisburg. She was preceded in death by her mother, Wilma Douglass, in 1966 and by her son, Christian Douglass Tucker in 1991. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lewisburg with the Rev. James Lehman officiating. Burial was in the Roselawn Cemetery in Lewisburg. Lu Keplinger
Lu (Stephens) Keplinger, 88, formerly of Eaton, died Sept. 28, 1996 in La Mesa, Calif. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Huss and Georgia Hoover, both of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Thursday, Oct. 3 in La Mesa.
William A. Hand
William A. Hand, 84, formerly of Georgetown-Verona Road, Lewisburg, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. Born June 22, 1912 in Grand Rapids, Mich, he was the son of Harry and Clara (Austin) Hand. He retired in 1977 after 22 years with the Ohio Division of food, Dairy and Drugs; was a graduate of Penn State with a BA in agriculture and member of the Alumni Association; a World War II Army veteran; member of the V.F.W.-Brookville Memorial Post and American Legion, West Alexandria; Hilliard Happiness Entertainers; member of the Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church, Hilliard. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen M. Hand in 1986 and a son, William H. Hand in 1969. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gary A. and Christine Hand of Dublin, and two grandchildren, Gary and Ryan Hand. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 11: a.m. at the Barnes Funeral Home, 411 N. Commerce St., Lewisburg, with the Rev. Max Williams officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. Family will receive friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church.
William F. Dannecker
William F. Dannecker, 87, of 3105 Shadow Hill Road, Middletown, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996 at Willow Knoll Convalescent Center. He was born Dec. 8, 1908 in Cincinnati. He retired from Armco Steel Corp. in 1970 after 37 years of service as a metallurgical engineer. He was also the owner-operator of Danny's Train Shop for 40 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Middletown YMCA, Model Railroad Association and Alpha Lambda Tau Fraternity at the University of Kentucky and was also a Boy Scouts of America leader. Survivors include his wife, Alice C. Dannecker; one daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Hal Yoder of Eaton; one son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Jean Dannecker of Palm City, Fla.; grandchildren, Debby and Doug Bryant of Hamilton, Bob and Christina Yoder of Eaton, Chris and Jennifer Dannecker, and Kelly Dannecker all of Daytona Beach, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, Middletown with the Rev. John Keeny officiating. Ruby Barnette
Ruby Feltner Whitis Barnette, 71, of 6450 East Kentucky 70, Eubank, Ky., died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1996, at her home.
Born July 12, 1925, in Langnau, Ky., she was the daughter of the late John and Flora House Feltner. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Barnette; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Rhonda Whitis of Camden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Dexter Mobley of Eubank, Ky., Marty and Mike Myers of Eaton; a sister, Martha Sczewc of Indiana; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Barry Whitis; a daughter, Julia Kay Whitis; five brothers, Potter, Carl, Jasper, Woody and Freddie Feltner; and a sister, Mary Case.
Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 22, at the chapel of Morris and Hislope Funeral Home, with Brother Troy Roberts officiating. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery, Eubank, Ky.
James F. Johnson
James "Jimmy" Finch Johnson, 43, of 61 1/2 S. 15th St., Richmond, Ind., died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1996, at his home.
He was born Aug. 18, 1953, in Richmond, Ind., and had lived there since 1991. He was a reporter for The Graphic Press and the Palladium-Item. He was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Springs, Md., and Gilford College in Greensboro, N.C. He had attended Indiana University East.
Mr. Johnson was a musician in several bands in the Washington, D.C., area for 10 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Finch Johnson of Richmond, Ind.; three sisters, Mary Anne Walker of Carmel, Ind., Rita Pardieck of Summerville, S.C., and Patricia Johnson of Lancaster, Pa.; one brother, David O. Johnson of Boca Raton, Fla.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, E. Orville Johnson, in November 1995.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 23, at Doan and Mills Funeral Home, Richmond, Ind., with Father Todd Riebe officiating. Burial was in Earlham Cemetery, Richmond.

Raymond L. Smith
Raymond Lee Smith, 18, of Cambridge City, Ind., died Thursday, Nov. 21, 1996, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, following an accident at work.
A native and lifelong resident of New Castle, Ind., he was born July 1, 1978, and attended Lincoln High School in Cambridge City. He was a carpenter and was employed by Newton Construction Company in Cambridge City. He attended Bentonville Christian Church.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Larry E. and Sandi (Hicks) Smith of New Paris; his mother and stepfather, Sandra L. (Mobley) and Rickie Sherwood Sr. of Cambridge City, Ind.; two sisters, Ginger Marie Marshall of Dublin, Ind., and Misty Dawn Smith of Cambridge City, Ind.; one brother, Larry Leon Smith of Dublin, Ind.
Also surviving are paternal grandparents, Leon and Helen Smith of Connersville, Ind.; maternal grandparents, Minor and Geneva Mobley of Dublin, Ind.; a nephew, Chandler Todd Marshall; three stepbrothers, Shannon Smith of Kankakee, Ill., Rickie Sherwood Jr. and Nicholas Ryan Sherwood, both of Milton, Ind.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 25, at Marshall Funeral Home, Dublin, Ind., with the Rev. Brian Justice officiating. Burial was in South Lawn Cemetery, Dublin.
Helen T. Garst
Helen T. Garst, 92, formerly of Ridgeville, Ohio, died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, at the Otterbein Home in Lebanon.
Born in Eaton, she was the daughter of Andrew and Ida (Tucker) Weir. She graduated from Ohio State University and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She had taught fine arts and elementary school in Eaton, Dayton, Kettering and Springboro. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Ridgeville Homemakers and the Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Garst was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Garst, in 1975.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Sally Garst of Beavercreek; a daughter, Carol Manspeaker of Salem, Ore.; five grandchildren, Daniel and Joan Garst, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Andrew Manspeaker.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 25, at Otterbein Home Chapel, Lebanon, followed by burial in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home, Waynesville, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Marker
Robert L. Marker, 69, of 52 N. Main St., West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Aug. 22, 1927, in Richmond, Ind., he was the son of Walter and Carrie (Wysong) Marker. He had retired from the West Alexandria Post Office after 27 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of James E. Ryan Post #322 American Legion, a member of the First Brethren Church in West Alexandria, and a past member of the Ohio State Patrol Auxiliary.
His wife, Betty Jane Marker, preceded him in death in 1995.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, R. Dwain and Sandra Marker, Rick and Linda Marker, all of West Alexandria; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Fran Naudascher, Robin and Chic McKinney, all of West Alexandria, Regina and Derek Crase of Clay City, Ky.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lowell Marker of West Alexandria and Charles Marker of Lewisburg; and a special friend, Janious Hart of New Paris.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Gene, James and Lloyd Marker.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the First Brethren Church, with the Rev. David Oligee officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.

Leonard Marker
Leonard Marker, 92, of 142 N. Main St., Camden, died Saturday morning, Nov. 23, 1996, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Born July 18, 1904, in Eaton, he was the son of Washington and Carrie (Campbell) Marker, and had lived most of his life in Richmond, Ind. He had worked for Thompson Dairy Co. as a pick-up man from the dairy farms and also at the plant, worked seven years for the Indiana State Highway Department out of Centerville, Ind., and helped his son on the farm for many years. He was a member of the Liberty (Ind.) Church of Christ for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary J. (Anderson) Marker, in 1988; a daughter, Janice M. Bailey Zumbrun; one sister and two brothers.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty L. Kenney of Richmond, Ind., Phyllis A. Lackey of Camden and Donna M. Branson of Richmond, Ind.; a son, Kenneth A. Marker of Liberty, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Carol Jacobs Steen of Fountaintown, Ind., and Shirley Jacobs Clark of Indianapolis, Ind.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Showalter-Blackwell, Baker-Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, Ind., with Brent Avery of Oklahoma City, Okla., officiating. Burial was in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Boston, Ind.

Maurice Schmidt
Maurice "Bud" Schmidt, 69, of 8621 Reeve Road, Camden, died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 23, 1996, at his home.
Born June 2, 1927, in Cincinnati, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (May) Schmidt. He was employed with George E. Fern Decorators in Cincinnati for over 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Jane (Buchert) Schmidt, whom he married Oct. 22, 1949; four sons, Joe (Pam) Schmidt of Morning Sun, Buddy (Marian) Schmidt, Fred (Becky) Schmidt and Tom Schmidt, all of Camden; three daughters, Lenna (Tom) McKee of Eaton, Sandy (David) Kalnai of Trenton and Laurie Schmidt of Camden.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, David Schmidt of Cincinnati and Garhart Schmidt of Camden; four sisters, Lucille Burger of Camden, Shirley Muring and Alvera Enverle, both of Cincinnati, and Mary Davis of Florida.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Schmidt and Joseph Schmidt; and three sisters, Martha Burwinkel, Deloris Bross and Elizabeth Sherlock.
Funeral Mass was Tuesday, Nov. 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Camden, with Father Monig officiating. R.C. Nein and Sons Funeral Home, Camden, was in charge of arrangements.
