Lou Ann Nelson
Lou Ann Nelson, 60, of Eaton, died Saturday, Sept. 19, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind.
Born Nov. 3, 1937, in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Ezera and Alpha Fraley. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Eaton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Junior Nelson, on March 13, 1996; brothers, Gary and Charles Fraley; and a sister, Geneva McNally.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jan Thomas and Bev Bowen of Madison, Ind.; two grandchildren, Deanna Turner and Michael Bowen; two great-grandchildren, Lacy and Tiara Turner; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Waymire of Eaton; a brother, Robert Fraley of Middletown; a sister, Phyllis Fields of Eaton; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. L. Keith Spencer officiating. Burial was in Miami Valley Memory Gardens, Centerville, Ohio.
Alice M. Schul
Alice M. Schul, 89, of Wayne Township, Ohio, died Thursday, Sept. 17, at her home.
Born July 30, 1909, in Gratis, she was the daughter of Earl C. and Clara (Lease) Koontz. She had been a seamstress for the Central Store in Middletown, was a Sunday school teacher and 4-H leader, and a member of Jacksonburg United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Joyce Schul of Wayne Township; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn A. and Charles Hoit of Wayne Township, Shirley K. and Jim Williams of Camden; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and six step-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Virginia Koontz of Eaton; sisters and brother-in-law, Jeanette Long of Hamilton, Jeanne Clayman of Camden, Laura Mae Sword of Wayne Township and Virginia and Tom Weaver of West Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond G. Schul, in 1968; her parents; a son, Donald E. Koontz, in 1977; three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 21, at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, Middletown, with the Rev. Jeffrey Motter officiating. Burial was in Elk Creek Cemetery, Madison Township.

Ethel W. Pugh
Ethel W. Pugh, 76, of Camden, died Thursday, Sept. 17, at Heartland of Eaton.
Born Sept. 28, 1921, in Dillsboro, Ind., she was the daughter of Fredus and Minnie (Meyers) Preble. She was a 1940 graduate of Fairfield High School, and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley S. Pugh, whom she married June 25, 1941, in Hamilton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley G. and Norene Pugh of Wind Lake, Wis., Glen and Elaine Pugh, Ronald and Patricia Pugh, all of Camden; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wayne Preble of Columbus.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 21, at Zettler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Metzger officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis.
James T. Heck
James T. Heck, 55, of Crescent Drive, Lewisburg, died Saturday, Sept. 19, at the VA Hospital in Dayton after an extended illness.
Born July 12, 1943, in Dayton, he was the son of James R. and Anna Mae (Hutton) Heck. He had served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962, and with the Oklahoma National Guard for several years.
Survivors include a son, Terry Heck of Oregon; a daughter, Jaimie Heck of Oklahoma; four sisters, Sharon Y. Saylor of Lake Worth, Fla., Claudia J. French of Sacramento, Calif., Teresa M. Heck of Mississippi and Bobbie Lynn Thomas of MerRouge, La.; and two brothers, Michael E. Heck of California and Shaugn W. Brown of Denver, Colo.
Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. David O. Justis officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Delia F. Oechsle
Delia Florence Oechsle, 94, of Eaton, died Sunday, Sept. 20, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Sept. 23, 1903, in West Alexandria, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah Jane (Rigney) O'Dell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Leroy "Roy" Oechsle, in 1991; and a daughter, Anita Jane Oechsle, in 1934.
Survivors include one son, Donovan "Don" Oechsle of Eaton; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Rawleigh O'Dell of Louisville, Ky.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St., with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Roger L. Hoffman
Roger L. Hoffman, 64, formerly of U.S. 40, Lewisburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Palm Bay Hospital in Palm Bay, Fla., after an extended illness.
Born June 11, 1934, in Dayton, he was the son of Leo L. and Anna M. (Brown) Hoffman. He was a 1952 graduate of Trotwood High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Hoffman had lived in the Lewisburg area since 1973, and retired in 1986 from AT&T after 34 years of service. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Lewisburg.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Elaine F. (Breno) Hoffman; sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew Hoffman of Lewisburg, Eric and Heidi Hoffman of Cincinnati, Christopher Hoffman of Seattle, Wash., Gregory and Amy Hoffman of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; one grandchild; several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 7, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Rezash officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.

Herman J.B. Unger
Herman J.B. Unger, 89, of West Dayton Street, West Alexandria, died Thursday, Dec. 3, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Oct. 12, 1909, in Preble County, he was the son of Jacob and Sarah (Steinmeyer) Unger. He was a former school board member of the West Alexandria schools, and had been employed by Preble County and worked as the recorder for many years. He had been a farmer most of his life.
Mr. Unger was a member of Salem Lutheran Church; West Alexandria Lions Club; Gleaners Chapter #122, OES; and King Hiram Lodge #88, F&AM.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Unger, in 1942; and his second wife, Marjorie, in 1980.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Nina Unger; four sons and daughters-in-law, Lowell and Marlene Unger of Akron, Larry and Carol Unger, Jay and Rosalie Unger, all of Eaton, Charles and Cheryl Unger of Eldorado; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Also surviving are three stepchildren, Carol Lunsford of West Alexandria, Ralph and wife Shirley Habekost of Eaton, Carl Habekost of Toledo; eight step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren.
A grandchild, Daniel Unger; two brothers, Stanley and Paul Unger; and a sister, Naomi Poos, are also deceased.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 7, at Salem Lutheran Church, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Daniel Snider officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.

Irene Taggart
Irene Taggart, 74, of U.S. 40, New Paris, died Monday, Nov. 30, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Dec. 14, 1923, in Baxter, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Amon and Ada (Dickerson) Brock. She had lived in the New Paris-Richmond area since 1944, and had worked at the Holiday Inn in Richmond. She was a member of the New Paris Chamber of Commerce.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Almon Taggart, in 1986; a sister, Loretta Brock, in 1986; and twin daughters, in 1947.
Survivors include sons, Fred E. and Nathan A. Taggart, both of New Paris, David D. Taggart of Texas and Jonathan W. Taggart of Middletown; a daughter, Dianna S. Ehrhard of Florida; stepdaughters, Ada M. Alvey of New Paris, Eunice F. Alvey of Fountain City, Ind.; sisters, Rosa Heath of New Paris, Veda Branson of New Madison; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 4, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Reggie Osborne officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.

Raymond L. Curtner
Raymond Louis Curtner, 78, of 5780 West Elkton-Gifford Road, Somerville, died Monday morning, Nov. 30, at his home.
Born Sept. 13, 1920, in Piqua, he was the son of Earl and Ruth (Konz) Curtner. He was employed as a shipping supervisor at Armco Tubing until retiring in 1982 with 40 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a Purple Heart recipient, a member of CARE (Concerned Armco Retired Employees), and the West Elkton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Virginia (Miller) Curtner; two daughters, Peggy O'Callan of Columbus and Karen (Larry) Bryan of Carnegie, Pa.; two sons, Robert (Jackie) Curtner of Salisbury, N.C., and Kenneth (Jennifer) Curtner of Elkton, S.D.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Murphy of Piqua, Mary Deckard of Dayton, Edith Cox of Piqua and Elsie Hutchison of Piqua; and two brothers, Charles Curtner and Edward Curtner, both of Piqua.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John and Clarence Curtner.
Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 3, at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, Middletown, with the Rev. Ruben Cabanillas officiating. Burial was in Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio.

Charles A. Held
Charles A. Held, 84, of Eaton, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, at his home.
Born Dec. 7, 1913, in Sandusky, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Anna (Stehle) Held. He retired as plant production manager from Westvaco in Eaton in 1979 after 44 years. He was a 1931 graduate and class president of Sandusky High School, a past president and secretary of Sandusky Musicians Association Local 573, and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eaton.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret M. (Gast) Held; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles W. and Jan Held of Vandalia; two daughters, Sondra S. Hotchkiss of Sandusky and Debra A. Moore of Eaton; a brother, Leonard Held of Huron, Ohio; a sister, Shirley Christofel of Sylvania, Ohio; four grandchildren, Charles Bradley Held, Jeffrey P. Held, Jason D. Moore and Nikki Hotchkiss; two great-grandchildren, Scott and Amanda Hotchkiss; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, George and Robert Held; and three sisters, Alice Schoewe, Edna Held and Leona Schonhardt.
Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 3, at Grace Lutheran Church, Eaton, with the Rev. Brian Dillahunt officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
