William E. Setser
William E. Setser, 74, of 300 Garwood Road, Richmond, Ind., died Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Reid Hospital in Richmond after a long illness.
Born Sept. 30, 1926, in Richmond, he was the son of Andy and Viola (Whitesell) Setser, and had lived in Wayne County most of his life. He was a retired farmer and had continued to help his son farm on a part-time basis. He was a graduate of Dixon High School and a member of the Fairhaven Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Setser was on the Wayne County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 13 years, and was president of the Goshen Cemetery Board. He was an avid bowler for 45 years.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ruth E. (Bond) Setser; a son, Larry Setser of Richmond, Ind.; a daughter, Julie Fullhart of Muncie, Ind.; a brother, Gordon Setser of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Betty Stewart of Eaton and Mary Chapin of Fairhaven; one grandson; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 28, at Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, Fountain City, Ind., with Ray Vance and Brother Gary Truman officiating. Burial was in Goshen Cemetery.

Joseph E. Long
Joseph E. Long, 81, of Marty Lane, West Alexandria, formerly of New Lebanon, died Thursday, Dec. 3, at the VA Hospital in Dayton.
Born Dec. 23, 1917, in New Paris, he was the son of Charles and Callie (Krull) Long. He had retired from Hobart Dayton Scale in 1987 after 22 years, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include a sister, Virginia Smith of Trotwood; and a special friend, Lena Berry of West Alexandria.
Graveside services were Saturday, Dec. 5, at Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria, with the Rev. J. Herman Bassler officiating. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth L. Schuster
Ruth L. Schuster, 82, of 338 N. Locust St., Oxford, died Friday evening, Dec. 4, at Oxford View Nursing Center near Oxford.
Born April 5, 1916, in Darrtown, Ohio, she was the daughter of Lima and Carrie (Weiss) Bowers. She had lived in the Butler County area all her life, and was a member of the Collinsville Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur B. Schuster, in 1984; her parents; and a sister, Luella Irwin.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen L. Binegar of Oxford; two brothers, William F. (Betty) Bowers of Eaton and Donald (Roberta) Bowers of Jeffersonville, Ohio; a grandson, Glenn Binegar; a niece, Linda Woesner; and three nephews, William D. Bowers, Bobby Irwin and Ronnie Irwin.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner, Ohio, with the Rev. Robert Clark officiating. Burial was in Darrtown Cemetery.

Francis M. Bixler
Francis M. Bixler, 81, of 408 Arlington Road, Brookville, died Friday, Dec. 4, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Aug. 31, 1917, in Lewisburg, he was the son of the late Luther G. and Allie (Deisher) Bixler. He was a 1936 graduate of Lewisburg Union High School. Mr Bixler was a Montgomery County farmer for over 50 years and retired in 1979 from General Telephone Co. after 17 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lewisburg; a member of Twin Valley Grange and the Preble County Farm Bureau; and was past president and secretary/treasurer of the Brookville Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Esther C. (Miller) Bixler; a son, Ronald M. Bixler of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Jane Munson of Englewood; a brother, David Bixler of California; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Roger Paul Bixler; brothers, Ralph Bixler and George Bixler; and sisters, Madge VanNote and Phoebe Tegtmeyer.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, with the Rev. James N. Lehman officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Helen M. Dillon
Helen M. Dillon, 86, of Brookville, formerly of Preble County, died Saturday, Dec. 5, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Dec. 27, 1911, in Preble County, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Dottie R. Oler (Brown) Miller. For many years, she was the owner of the Country Inn Restaurant in Brookville. Mrs. Dillon was a member of Christ Life Center Church in Brookville, and was a former member of the Eaton Eagles and Moose Lodges.
She was preceded in death in 1950 by her husband, Landon H. "Pat" Dillon, whom she married May 25, 1932.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy D. and John Lanning of Brookville; a granddaughter, Sue L. (Dean F.) Mart of Brookville; a grandson, Mark A. Lanning of Bangor, Maine; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel A. Mart, Nicholes F. Mart and Sarah E. Mart.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with Pastor Glenn L. Younce officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Dr. Peter H. Mulder
Dr. Peter H. Mulder, 82, of the North Shore Retirement Community, Lakeside, Ohio, died Friday, Dec. 4, at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton.
Born July 12, 1916, in Cleveland, he was a graduate of Wooster High School, graduated from Wooster College and the Ohio State University Medical School. He served as a Navy doctor with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was a family physician in Darke County for 30 years, later served as medical director for Otterbein Home at Lebanon, then as plant physician at the Goodyear Atomic Regeneration Plant at Piketon before retiring to Lakeside.
Dr. Mulder was very active in many musical, church, community and professional activities wherever he lived. He was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church, Marblehead Lions Club and Gideons International.
Survivors include two daughters, Muriel Moore of Lima and Marilyn Bridges of New Madison; two sons, John Mulder of Lima and Jim Mulder of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; a sister, Elizabeth Davis of Lakeside; a brother, George W. Mulder of Peoria, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Smith) Mulder; his parents, Peter H. and Hendrika (Van Essen) Mulder; and a daughter, Margaret Hale.
Memorial services were Sunday, Dec. 6, at Lakeside United Methodist Church in Lakeside. Neidecker-LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Lakeside, was in charge of arrangements.

Goldia E. Layland
Goldia Elizabeth Layland, 89, a resident of Heritage House of Richmond, Ind., since 1983, died Monday night, Dec. 7. She formerly resided at 115 E. Spring St., Eaton.
Born Aug. 16, 1909, in Preble County, she was the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Everding) Straw. She was a 1927 graduate of Eaton High School, and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eaton.
Her husband, William C. Layland, died Oct. 26, 1968.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou and Richard Fligor, June and Donald Cottingim, all of Eaton; a son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Elaine Layland of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Laverna Layland of Orlando, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a niece, Darlene (Fleisch) Harris of Detroit, Mich.; and a nephew, Clarence Hewitt of Eaton.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmie Layland, in 1994; a grandson, Larry Layland, in 1995; and three sisters, Versie Fleisch, Zelma Millard and her twin, Lola Straw, in 1926.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

William E. Gibbs, Ph.D.
William E. Gibbs, Ph.D., 68, of Chesapeake, Va., died Sunday, Nov. 15, at his home.
Born in Akron, he was the son of the late Marvin Hill and Mary Frame Gibbs. He received his education at the University of Akron, where he obtained his bachelor of science, master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees. He was a scientific consultant at the University of Akron and was an instructor in polymer science.
He had served as a research chemist for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, and was a research chemist with the U.S. Air Force, having served as a major in the Air Force and the Air Force Reserves.
He was associated with the materials lab at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, served as a group leader, acting branch chief and branch chief, then as director of the polymer department.
He served as vice president and director of research and development for the Foster Grant Company in Leominster, Mass., and had also served as vice president and director of research and development at the plastics division of the American Hoescht Corporation in Leominster. From 1986 to present, he was the chief executive officer of W.E. Gibbs Corporation of Chesapeake.
Dr. Gibbs was a member of the American Chemical Society and chairman of the Polymer Chemistry Division in 1971. He had served as a member of the National Academy of Science Macromolecules Commission and Fire Toxicology Commission. He joined the Society of Plastics Engineers, and was a member of the Society of Chemical Industry, Alpha Chi Sigma. He was listed in the 1999 version of "Who's Who in America."
Survivors include his wife, Susie Janet (Cottingim) Gibbs; children, Sheryl McClary of Lilburn, Ga., Shelley Gibbs of Dayton, Susan (Larry) Kennedy of Kettering, Sharon (Scott) Charlesworth, and Scott Gibbs, all of Dayton, Leslie (Peter) Bovenzi of Lunenburg, Mass., David (Marcia) Sullender of Hamilton, and Eric (Rosemary) Sullender of Lunenburg, Mass.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores Gibbs (Gordon) Statts of Marietta, Ga.; his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Cottingim of Camden; sisters-in-law, Faye (Robert) Ketring, Ruth (Burdette) Ehrhardt; brothers-in-law, Earl Cottingim, Mike (Rhonda) Cottingim and Eddie (Karen) Cottingim; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Wilma Gibbs; and a brother, Marvin Gibbs.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 21, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. Greg Jackson officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.

Allie C. Tidd
Allie C. Tidd, 75, of 459 W. Main St., Arlington, Ohio, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 18, at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo.
Born Jan. 31, 1923, in Preble County, he was the son of the late Henry A. and Sarah A. (Trace) Tidd. He was retired from Arlington Good Samaritan Center with 19 years of service.
He was a member of the Bible Fellowship Church, Arlington, a past member of the church board and a former Sunday school teacher at the church; founding president of Appleseed EMS in Arlington; and a former Arlington Village councilman. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1945 during World War II in the European Theatre.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. (Brown) Tidd, whom he married Nov. 22, 1942 in Phillipsburg; two sons, Dennis E. Tidd of Findlay and Richard L. Tidd of Arlington; four granddaughters; one great-grandson; and one brother, Eugene Warrick of New Paris.
Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 20, at Bible Fellowship Church, Arlington, with the Rev. Jerry A. Kellogg officiating. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery. Crates Funeral Home, Arlington, was in charge of arrangements.
