Cecil Ashley
Cecil Ashley, 58, of Eaton, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 17, at his home.
Born March 21, 1940, in Breathitt County, Ky., he was the son of Woodrow and Lora (Campbell) Ashley. He was a self-employed construction worker for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann (Davis) Ashley, whom he married July 15, 1963; a son, Green Jay Ashley of Eaton; daughters, Lora Elizabeth Grubbs of London, Ky., Pamela Sue Stewart of Eaton and Barbara Marie Stewart of Manchester, Ky.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Charlotte Grubbs, Teresa Grubbs, Andy Stewart, Sabrina Stewart, Joshua Stewart, Tauchua Stewart and Mary Stewart; step-grandchildren, Anthony Vorhis and Brandon Vorhis; brothers, Ova Ashley of Eaton, John Ashley of Trotwood, Ora Ashley of West Milton and Junior Ashley of Eaton; sisters, Dorothy Webb of Vandalia, Ada Grubb of West Alexandria and Mary Jo Brannon of Eaton.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Roope.
Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 19, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Thomas Vorhis officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Freda M. Leab
Freda M. Huntington Leab, 86, formerly of West College Corner, Ind., died Monday evening, Nov. 16, at Woodland Country Manor in Somerville.
A native and lifelong resident of Union County, Ind., she was born Dec. 6, 1911, in Union County, Ind., the daughter of Edward T. and Mina P. (Vanausdal) Huntington. She graduated from Short High School in 1929. Mrs. Leab had worked as a cook at the College Corner School, was a bookkeeper for Phi Delta Theta of Oxford and had worked for the College Corner newspaper.
She was a member of the College Corner United Methodist Church, the Methodist Church Women and various other church groups. She was a member of the Oxford Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a son, Keith Leab of Trenton; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil A. Leab, on Jan. 8, 1995; two sons, Neil H. Leab, on July 13, and Duane Leab, in 1979; her parents; and three brothers, Everett, Wilbur and Paul Huntington.
Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 20, at Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner, Ohio, followed by burial in the College Corner Cemetery, West College Corner, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Everett D. Ludy
Everett D. Ludy, 85, of New Lebanon, died Saturday morning, Nov. 21, at Harborside Care Center in New Lebanon.
Born Oct. 18, 1913, in Farmersville, he was the son of the late Oscar and Leona (Hayslett) Ludy. He retired in 1972 from the Frigidaire Division of General Motors after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Brethren Church of New Lebanon.
Survivors include his wife, Glenna B. (Diehl) Ludy, whom he married June 6, 1937; daughters, Carol Althouse and husband Mark of New Lebanon, Cynthia Bowman and friend Doug Weng and his son, Justin Weng of Dayton, Jennifer Tobiansky and husband Joel of Dayton, Jane DeLaney and husband Joe of Odessa, Texas; grandchildren, Anita Beare and Jeffrey Althouse; great-grandchildren, Amy Beare and Brent Althouse; step-great-grandchildren, Brandon and Christopher Palmertree.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with Pastor Jerry Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Lebanon Rescue Squad or to the Dayton Area Heart/Cancer Association.

Rev. Glenn C. Rust
The Rev. Glenn C. Rust, 90, of Eaton, now of LakeView at BrookHaven, Brookville, died Saturday, Nov. 21, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Sept. 25, 1908, in Preble County, he was the son of the late Melvin and Hannah (Deaton) Rust. He was a graduate of Monroe High School in Preble County. He received his bachelor of science degree from Manchester College, North Manchester, Ind.; attended Bethany Seminary in Chicago, Ill.; and earned his master's degree from Miami University, Oxford.
For 26 years, Rev. Rust was pastor at the Castine Church of the Brethren and taught school for 41 years at Monroe School in Preble County and the Dayton Public School system. He was a member of the Eaton Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include his wife, Florence N. (Wolford) Rust, whom he married Aug. 16, 1930; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Gene Plunkett of Eaton, Joan and Darrell Parks of Columbus; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Dean and Shirley Rust of Lancaster, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are five sisters, Geneve Rust and Louise Blickenstaff, both of Greenville, Fern Brestel of Mason, Margaret Ann Jestice of Lebanon and Maxine Ashbaugh of Richmond, Ind.; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Max Snider; and a brother, Dr. Cecil Rust.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the Eaton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Martin Peacock and the Rev. Greg Hyre officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Max and Joyce (Rust) Snider Scholarship Fund, c/o Manchester College, North Manchester, Ind. 46962; to the Eaton Church of the Brethren; or to the Eaton Emergency Squad.

Dale D. Horine
Dale D. Horine, 78, of Woodale Drive, Eaton, died Sunday morning, Nov. 22, at Grandview Hospital in Dayton after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 23, 1920, in Eldorado, he was the son of Alva B. and L. Blanche (Deem) Horine. He was a 1941 graduate of Eaton High School. Mr. Horine served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. He retired in 1975 after 34 years of service with NCR Corporation in Dayton, and had worked at McFall's Furniture in Eaton.
He was a life member of American Legion Post #215 of Eaton, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8066 of Eaton, Disabled American Veterans of Lewisburg, and a Preble County commissioner for the Preble County Veterans Service.
Mr. Horine was a 32-year volunteer for the American Red Cross, serving with the Disaster Team at national disasters in West Virginia, Indiana, South Carolina, northern California, Alabama, Hawaii, and several in Ohio including the Xenia tornado. He was the Red Cross liaison for the Local Emergency Planning Commission and Preble County Firemen's Association.
He was a member of the Preble County Historical Society's Farm Committee, was a 30-year member of the West Alexandria Lions Club, a member of the West Alexandria Boosters Club, and coached Little League and Pony League baseball in the 1950s and 1960s in West Alexandria.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Margaret M. (Stout) Horine; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Pam Horine of Centerville, Ohio; a daughter and son-in-law, Marge and Rick Koenig of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Pete and Matt Horine of Centerville, Ohio, Hans and Deanna Koenig of Lewisburg, Gretchen and George Melvin of Cincinnati; a great-grandson, Aaron Koenig of Lewisburg.
Also surviving are brothers, Dwight L. Horine, Ralph Horine and Robert Horine, all of Eaton; sisters, Helen Zimmerman, Jean DeHart and Doris Clark, all of Eaton, Thelma Agne of Battle Creek, Mich., Mary Davenport of Dallas, Texas, and Jan Schultz of Apollo, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Horine, in 1919; and two brothers, Junior Horine and Raymond Horine.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St., with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria, with full military graveside services by the Preble County Veterans' Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.

Blanche Miller
Blanche Miller, 104, of West Dayton Street, West Alexandria, died Monday, Nov. 23, at Harborside Nursing Home in New Lebanon.
Born Aug. 10, 1894, in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of William and Ardella (Hull) Snider. She had worked for Rike's Department Store in the 1950s and the West Alexandria School cafeteria in the 1960s.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Church of the Brethren in West Alexandria, and a life member of Eastern Star. She had been award the Blue Star by the U.S. government for having five sons serve in World War II, and the Gold Star for losing a son in that war.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Miller, in 1991; five sons, Joy, Robert, Darrel, Dennie and William Miller; a daughter, Dorothea Pilarksi; and a brother, Harley Snider.
Survivors include three daughters, Velma Dyer-Brown of West Alexandria, Vera Habekost of Bradenton, Fla., and Earla Mae Giehl of Dayton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Owen Jr. "Buz" and Marietta Miller of West Alexandria, Jack and Betty Miller of Lady Lake, Fla.
Also surviving are two daughters-in-law, Ann Miller of New Lebanon and Betty Miller of Vandalia; a brother-in-law, Howard Miller of Winter Haven, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Daniel Snider officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Alexandria Rescue Squad.

William D. Green Sr.
William "Bill" D. Green Sr., 70, of Beavercreek, died Thursday, Oct. 1, at Hospice of Dayton.
He was a native of Eaton.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Frances Green; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Brian Howard of Cincinnati; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Polly Green of Jamestown, David and Carol Green of Beavercreek; six grandchildren, Shannon, Tim, Amy, Christy, Eric and Mikala; sisters and brother-in-law, Patricia and Gene Freel of Mt. Sterling and Shirley Green of Pennsylvania; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Miriam Green of California, Gary and Becky Green of Cedarville; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Elsie Green; and two brothers, Lester and Lowell Green.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Oct. 5, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Beavercreek, with Father William Kramer the celebrant. Burial was in Mount Zion Park. Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

Fern Plunkett
Fern Plunkett, 89, of Eaton, died Thursday, Oct. 1, at Oak Ridge Rehab and Specialty Care Center in Richmond, Ind.
Born Feb. 19, 1909, in Virden, Ill., she was the daughter of Irvin J. and Bertha (Mumma) Brubaker. Mrs. Plunkett had lived in Eaton since 1949 and spent the winter months in Sarasota, Fla. She was a member of the Eaton Church of the Brethren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman S. Plunkett, in 1996; and three sisters, Orpha Garst, Miriam Wrightsman and OnaMae Miles.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Barbara Plunkett of Eaton; a daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Rolf Theen of Lafayette, Ind.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 5, at the Eaton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Greg Hyre and the Rev. Martin Peacock officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Church of the Brethren.

Opal E. Lanthrop
Opal Edna Lanthrop, 87, formerly of West Chicago Street, Eaton, died Friday, Oct. 2, in Columbus.
Born June 23, 1911, in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of William and Pearl (Cain) Shank. She was a member of the First Church of God in Eaton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Lanthrop, in 1980; a son, John, in 1945; a daughter, Freda Mae Winkelman, in 1981; three sisters and a brother.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Lanthrop of Eaton and Ron Lanthrop of Marion; two daughters, Evelyn Jean Deeter of Lakeview and Mary Ann Lutz of Glenwood; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Iona Fahrenholz of New Lebanon.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Harold Combs officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Brethren Church, Glenwood, Ohio.
