Irene M. Lunsford
Irene M. Lunsford, 69, of New Paris, died Saturday, Oct. 3, at her home after a short illness.
Born Nov. 5, 1928, in Dayton, she was the daughter of the late Harley W. and Anna K. (Short) Crawford. She was a 1946 graduate of Jefferson Township High School. She retired after 24 years as a part-time bookkeeper for Bud Reid's Garage in New Paris, and currently served as a receptionist for Don Pollock CPA in Eaton.
Mrs. Lunsford was the first woman council member to serve on the New Paris Village Council in the early 1980s for two terms. She was a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Gamma Pi Chapter of New Paris, the Tuesday Club and St. Paul United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elisha "Lige" Lunsford, in 1954.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jan C. and Coleen Lunsford of Topeka, Kan.; and granddaughters, Emilie R. and Wendy K. Lunsford.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Gary L. Green and the Rev. Ned Michael officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris. Delta Theta Tau Sorority held memorial services following viewing Monday at the funeral home, and the Tuesday Club held memorial graveside services on Tuesday.

Walter A. Tyree Jr.
Walter A. Tyree Jr., 80, of Meadowlark Lane, Eaton, died Sunday, Oct. 4, at Heartland of Eaton after an extended illness.
Born Sept. 19, 1918, in Irvin, Ky., he was the son of the late Walter A. Sr. and Maggie B. (Hackworth) Tyree. He retired from Avco in Richmond, Ind., in 1971 after 33 years of service, and moved to Eaton in 1977.
Mr. Tyree had served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of American Legion Post #215 of Eaton and a life member of the Blinded Veterans Association.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Oleta M. (Glaub) Tyree; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin A. Tyree, in 1976, and Keith E. Tyree, in 1978; three sisters, Grace Hackworth, Gladys Carmichael and Evelyn Monroe.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St., with the Rev. Tom Maxedon Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery, Richmond, Ind.

Virgie M. Fortney
Virgie M. Fortney, 94, formerly of East South Street, West Alexandria, died Sunday, Oct. 4, at Harborside Nursing Home in New Lebanon.
Born July 7, 1904, in West Alexandria, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Sarah (Cole) Flory. She was a graduate of West Alexandria High School, and had worked as a sales clerk for many years. Mrs. Fortney was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ingomar.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel O'Neil Fortney, in 1955.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Martha Fortney of West Alexandria; three grandchildren, Jill Fortney of Kettering, Jenny Sherman of Sidney and Mark Fortney of St. Charles, Mo.; and five great-grandchildren, Mathew Fortney, Laura Sherman, Paul Fortney, Tim Fortney and Maria Fortney.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Terri Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday just prior to services.

Mitchell Miller
Mitchell Miller, 81, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Glenwood, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, in Arizona.
He was a retired minister and had owned a grocery store in Glenwood years ago. Mr. Miller was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Christina (Adams) Miller, currently living in Alvin, Ill.; a daughter and son-in-law, Rella and Gene Robinson of Alvin, Ill.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil and Janice Miller of Dayton, Vearl and Debbie Miller of West Alexandria, Doyle and Brenda Miller of Eaton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Thelma Adams of Trotwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eva (Kendrick) Miller; and a brother, Russell Miller.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Gene Robinson officiating. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth J. Brinkmann
Kenneth James Brinkmann, 62, of Clinton, Ark., died Monday, Sept. 28, in Clinton.
Survivors include three daughters, Velinda Wilkinson of Dallas, Texas, Ramona Brinkmann of Conway, Ark., and Glenda Messinger of Vilonia, Ark.; three sisters, Sarah Severin of Akron, Colo., Janet Felt of Stratton, Neb., and Caralynn Appenzeller of Brookville; one brother, Wendell Brinkmann of Castle Rock, Colo.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 2, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway, Ark., followed by burial in Rest Hills Cemetery, Jacksonville, Ark. Local arrangements were by Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria.
George R. Yost
George R. "Dick" Yost, 79, of West Alexandria, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, in West Alexandria.
Born Aug. 27, 1919, in Preble County, he was the son of H.B. and Ruth (Guntle) Yost. He had farmed all his life and was a member of Dixie Grange.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Thelma (Rabold) Yost; one son, Harold Yost of Lufkin, Texas; four daughters, Clara Yost and Frances Londergan, both of Dayton, Doris Fuller of Columbus and Norma Crothers of Eaton; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Walter Yost.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 26, at Rogers Funeral Home, New Lebanon, followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Alexandria EMS, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Evelyn Foust
Evelyn Anna "Bobbie" Foust, 75, of 75 County Road 355, New Paris, died Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Green Briar Nursing Center in Eaton.
Born Jan. 21, 1923, in Union City, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Harry B. and Inez (Stump) Freidline. She was a 1941 Morton High School graduate in Richmond, Ind. She retired in 1988 from the IRS after 10 years of service as a Tax Payer Service representative, and was a member of Preble County Council on Aging and Altrusa Club of Richmond.
She was preceded in death by sisters Mary Dean Jackson in 1996 and Edna Mae Hawkins in 1997.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Wan O. Foust; sons Michael S. Foust, of Kissimmee, Fla. and Shawn D. Foust, of Moraga, Calif.; a daughter, Cynthia Jo Foust of New Paris; brother, Eldon H. Freidline of Los Alamos, N.M.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral service were held on Friday, Nov. 6 at Barnes Funeral Home, New Paris. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.
Charlene Voge
Charlene Voge, 78, West Alexandria, died Thursday, Nov. 5, at Grandview Hospital in Dayton.
Born Mar. 11, 1920 in New Holland to Clark and Donna (Smith) Orihood, she retired in 1974 from TRW (Globe Industries) in Dayton. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and Salem Women of the Church.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Lawrence Voge; seven children, Roger Shuttleworth of Dayton; Carolyn Lawson of Miamisburg; Jim Stockslager, Eaton; James Voge, Newark; Sylvia Schaeffer, Brookville and Don Voge, Bloomington; 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and a cousin, Jewell Morsa, West Carrollton.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Jo McKee in 1979, and by a sister, Janice Johnson.
Services were Saturday, Nov. 7 at Salem Lutheran Church, West Alexandria with Rev. Daniel Snider officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria. Arrangements were handled by Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria.
Donations may be made to the West Alexandria Rescue Squad or Hospice of Middletown.
Robert Downing Sr.
Robert Downing Sr., 38 of Hagerstown, Ind., died Sunday, Nov. 1 as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born Jan. 10, 1960, in Dayton, to Richard and Martha (Carnes) Downing.
Survivors include his wife, Nicole; six children, Amanda, New Paris; Robert Jr., New Paris; Miranda, New Paris; Bobby Jo, Richmond, Ind.; Harley, Milton, Ind.; Skyler, Hagerstown, Ind.; a sister, Donna Whistler of Junction City, Kansas; three brothers, Richard Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.; Louis of Miamisburg and Terry of Junction City, Kansas.
Services were held Nov. 4, at Marshall and Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin, Ind., with Rev. Fletcher Callahan officiating.
James Gibbs
James William Gibbs, 62, West Alexandria, died suddenly, Friday, Nov. 6.
He was born Dec. 8, 1935, in Covington, Ky., a son of the late Henry William and Ada (Epperson) Gibbs. He served in the United States Army from 1957-59. A member of the Inland Retirees, he retired in 1988 after 30 years with the Inland Division of GM-Vandalia Plant. An active member and Deacon of the First Brethren Church of West Alexandria, he was cofounder and cook for the Church's Men's Prayer Breakfast, was a member of Senior Citizens of the Church and participated in the Friday Night Church Fellowship Bowling League.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lawrence Wayne and Johnnie Gibbs.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marilyn L. (Rader) Gibbs, daughter and son-in-law Kendra and Bob Creech of West Alexandria; son and daughter-in-law Todd and Karen Gibbs of New Paris; grandchildren Rick, Tish, Bobby, Kayla and Kelsey Creech and Bobby and Nikki Gierzak; brothers Warren Gibbs, Dale Gibbs and Charles Gibbs of Eaton; sisters Etta Melton of Imperial Beach, Calif. and Mary Wogoman of Eaton; step-mother Julie Gibbs of San Antonio Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the First Brethren Church of West Alexandria, with Pastor David Oligee officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens.
Arrangements were handled by Barnes Funeral Home, Eaton. Contributions may be made to the First Brethren Church Memorial Fund.
Ethel Bennett
Ethel Louise Bennett, 82, Eaton, died Friday, Nov. 6 at Reid Hospital as a result of a short illness.
Born Sept. 9, 1916 in Fairfield, Ind., she was the daughter of Lenard and Edna (Cromwell) Veal. She lived in Richmond, Ind., for more than 30 years before moving to Eaton. She was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in New Hope.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bennett, in 1977.
She is survived by one son, Greg Bennett, Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters, Sandy Lang, London, Karen Alcorn, New Paris, and Becky Rogers, New Hope; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Veal, Richmond, Ind.
Private graveside services were held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were handled by Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jeffrey Blair officiating. Burial was in Lutherania Cemetery, Richmond, Ind.
