William W. Hageman
William Walter Hageman, 89, died Sunday, Nov. 22, in Riverside, Calif.
Born July 31, 1909, in Independence, Ky., he was the son of Harry and Bettie Hageman. He was a physical therapist from 1947 until his retirement in 1985.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Mae (Dietiker) Hageman, whom he married Dec. 31, 1929, in Covington, Ky.; two children, Fred Hageman and Leah H. Riggle, both of Riverside, Calif.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ora Mae Withrow of Camden.
Graveside services were Saturday, Nov. 28, at Somerville Cemetery in Somerville, with the Rev. Harold Horton officiating. R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, was in charge of arrangements.
Stella Cornett
Stella "Marie" (Lane) Cornett, 77, of Loogootee, Ind., died Tuesday, Nov. 24, at her home. She was a former resident of West Elkton.
Born May 2, 1921, she was the daughter of Walter and Jessie (Akers) Lane. She was a member of Shoals Christian Church and secretary of the Sunday school class, a member of the Grandmothers' Club and Dover Hill Homemakers.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, James Cornett; five daughters, Marilyn Tow of Indianapolis, Ind., Shirley Harding and Sally Ragsdale, both of Shoals, Ind., Becky Truelove of Nashville, Tenn., Shari Flippins of Santa Claus, Ind.; two sons, Richard Cornett of Loogootee, Ind., and Roger Cornett of Indianapolis, Ind.; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Dorothy Hoskins and Regent Chamberlain, both of Somerville, Laura Taylor, Norma Creekbaum and Brenda Phillabaum, all of Middletown.
She was preceded in death by two sons, James and Ranall Cornett; a daughter, Betty Lou Cornett; two sisters; and a brother.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 28, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Gratis, with Brother Ken Jurgens officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis.
Viola A. Wynne
Viola Ann Wynne, 81, of Eaton, died Friday, Nov. 27, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born July 20, 1917, in Roseburg, Ore., she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Nora C. (Shoemaker) Laughter. She was a former resident of Texas and had lived in Preble County since 1961. She retired in 1985 from Heartland of Eaton as a licensed practical nurse, and was a member of the Licensed Practical Nurses Association of Ohio. Mrs. Wynne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Eaton.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Thomas Leonard Wynne; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Hunt of Eaton, Mary Wynne of Seattle, Wash., Marjorie and Woodrow Grinstead of Tacoma, Wash., Julie and Warren Hoel of Lillington, N.C.; a son, Robert S. Wynne `of Eaton; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Nora Ledbetter and Lillian Powers, both of Texas, Barbara Adcock of Missouri, Evelyn DeKeyzer of Louisiana and Jo Bain of Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Planck, in 1996; grandsons, James Darrell and Stephen Thomas Wynne, in 1984; and a brother, Harold Laughter.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St., with the family officiating. Inurnment will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria, at the convenience of the family.

Donald K. White
Donald K. White, 70, of Toby Road, Eaton, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, Nov. 26, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Oct. 29, 1928, in Okeana, Ohio, he was the son of James H. and Susie Mae (Willis) White. He retired in 1994 from Parker Hannifin Corporation in Eaton after 28 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Frances (Buschur) White; three sons, James R. Carp Jr. of Glen Carbon, Ill., John B. Nuse of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jamie White of Ohio; two daughters, LuAnn Thorpe of Richmond, Ind., and Jacqueline M. Barger of Eaton; three sisters, Isabell Baugh and Christine Traylor, both of Camden, and Ethel Traylor of Lewisburg; two brothers, James White of Sweetwater, Tenn., and Richard White of Maryville, Tenn.; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Beddington, in 1998; and a sister, Vivian White.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 30, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Cecil O. Welsh
Cecil O. Welsh, 82, of Friendship Village, Dayton, formerly of Williams Parkway, Eaton, died Friday, Nov. 27, at Friendship Village.
Born Aug. 16, 1916, in Montgomery County, he was the son of Samuel O. and Pearl (Boomershine) Welsh, and had lived in Eaton since 1929. He retired in 1980 after being a state auditor for Ohio for 22 years, and prior to that, was Preble County Auditor for eight years.
Mr. Welsh was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Eaton; Bolivar Lodge #82, F&AM of Eaton for over 50 years; and Eaton Chapter #22, Royal Arch Masons. He was a retired U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and the former Veterans' Service Officer of Preble County.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Dorothy (Wolf) Welsh; a son, James A. Welsh of Redwood City, Calif.; two daughters, Nancy J. Kane of Sandusky and Ann Welsh Watkins of Los Angeles, Calif.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane Anson of Eaton; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia, in 1954; two sisters, Iris Jones and Mildred Schlechty; and a brother, William Welsh.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton, with the Rev. Thomas H. Maxedon Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Walter J. Cook
Walter J. "Cookie" Cook, 70, of Eaton died Saturday, Nov. 28, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Nov. 5, 1928, in Hamilton, he was the son of the late James C. and Eva Fern (Campbell) Cook. He was retired after 30 years at Leatherman Lumber Company, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eaton.
Survivors include a son, John Bertsch of Missouri; two daughters, Carol Bertsch of Tennessee and Phyllis Bullock of Richmond, Ind.; two grandchildren; four brothers, Arnold Cook of Eaton, Paul Cook and Joe Cook, both of Richmond, Ind., and Claude Cook of Dayton; a sister, Mary Tillery of Fountain City, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Winters.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Fred Hill officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Raymond J. Hilbert
Raymond J. Hilbert, 84, of Richmond, Ind., died Saturday, Nov. 28, at his home.
Born Jan. 6, 1914, in Connersville, Ind., he was the son of Joseph and Louise (Bleill) Hilbert, and had lived most of his life in the Richmond area. He retired as a tool and die maker from Alcoa in 1979 after 16 years; was a farmer, inventor and an accomplished violinist. He was instructor of the advanced machine shop class at Richmond High School night school.
Mr. Hilbert was a member of Visitation Catholic Church in Eaton, and was a former member of the Nettle Creek Steppers square dancing group.
His wife, Violet Marie (Wheeler) Hilbert, whom he married Jan. 22, 1942, preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Stella M. Witte of Richmond, Ind., Nancy Reed of Eaton and Dr. Julie Hilbert-Young of West Chester; one son, Glenn J. Hilbert of Centerville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are six sisters, Florence Amrhein, Marie Wheeler, Catherine Keal, Dorothy May and Louise Osborne, all of Connersville, Ind., and Lena Roach of Dyer, Ind.; one brother, Walter Hilbert of Connersville, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Church of the Visitation, Eaton, with the Rev. J. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Richmond, Ind. Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Richmond, Ind., is in charge of arrangements.

Alice J. Fisher
Alice J. Fisher, 79, of Eaton, died Sunday, Nov. 29, at Governor Harris Homestead in Eaton.
Born June 16, 1919, in Preble County, she was the daughter of the late William B. and Bertha F. (Foutz) Fisher, and had lived in Eaton all her life. She was a former bookkeeper for the City of Eaton, Cooper Insurance Agency and Si James Enterprises. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Regina M. Fisher, in 1997.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton, with the Rev. Thomas H. Maxedon Jr. officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, or to the Eaton Emergency Squad.
Doris Thomas
Doris Thomas, 74, formerly of Preble County, died Monday, Nov. 30, at Springfield Community Hospital in Springfield after an extended illness.
Born May 11, 1924, in Louisville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Coval) Thomas.
There are no immediate survivors.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Thomas J. Hellard
Thomas J. Hellard, 84, of Waynesville, formerly of Germantown and Richmond, Ind., died Monday morning, Nov. 30, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born Nov. 7, 1914, in Jackson County, Ky., he was the son of the late Franklin and Nanny (Young) Hellard. He retired in 1977 from the Dayton Walther Corp., and was a member of the Miamisburg Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Ray Hellard and Barty J. Hellard, both of Kettering; a daughter, Eula McQueen of Waynesville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Irvin and Glyendon Hellard, both of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dula (Morris) Hellard, in 1994; a grandson, Jeffrey Hellard, in 1968; and brothers, Jake, Carlos and Boyd Hellard.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with Pastor Stephen B. Sams officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Martha J. Hebbeler
Martha Jane (Frantz) Hebbeler, 74, of Deland Drive, Eaton, died Monday morning, Nov. 30, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Eaton after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 24, 1923, in Preble County, she was the daughter of Irvin T. and Grace Mae (Snider) Frantz. She retired in 1983 from Baxter Corporation in Eaton. Mrs. Hebbeler was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Eaton and Eastern Star Gleaners Chapter #182 of West Alexandria.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Frantz C. Hebbeler; two sons and daughter-in-law, Paul Frantz Hebbeler, Mark A. and Denise Hebbeler, all of Eaton; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald H. and Barbara Frantz of Dayton; two grandsons, Jacob and Aaron Hebbeler, both of Eaton; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Thomas H. Maxedon Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the chapel, where Eastern Star services will be conducted at 8:30. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
