Nancy J. Egan
Nancy J. Egan, 59, of 317 W. High St., Eaton, died Friday, Nov. 27, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born March 20, 1939, in Hamilton County, she was the daughter of the late Clive and Wilma (Hapner) Spitler, and had lived in Preble County most of her life. She was a member of the Eaton Church of the Brethren and Eagles Auxiliary Lodge #2202, Eaton.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer L. Egan; a son, Wayne R. Marker of Winchester, Ind.; two daughters Celena N. Hoskins of Richmond, Ind., and Amanda B. Holderman of Eaton; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Brandt of Hemet, Calif.; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Klepinger of Stoughton, Wis.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Valkyrie Marker.
Memorial services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Eaton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Martin L. Peacock officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one-half hour prior to services on Saturday. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, is in charge of arrangements.

Elsie G. Bake
Elsie Grace Bake, 93, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Tuesday, Dec. 22, in Punta Gorda.
Born Nov. 12, 1905, in Gate City, Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Effie (McMurry) Godsey. She and her husband had lived in Eldorado for 24 years, where they farmed. In 1960, they moved to Punta Gorda, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Brent M. Bake, in 1984.
Survivors include her children, Louise (Reid) McDonald of New Castle, Ind., Paul D. (Nellie) Bake of Lake Placid, Fla., Margaret M. Rehmel of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Esther Bake of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a brother, Carl Witters of Yuma, Ariz.; two sisters, Lucille Portwood of Eaton and Ruth Wood of Camden; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 28, at Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Homes, Punta Gorda, Fla. Burial was in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
Althea Meadors
Althea Meadors, 70, of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Enterprise Road, West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Sycamore Medical Center in Miamisburg.
Born Feb. 18, 1928, in Clay County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Carl and Charity (Holland) Baker. She retired in 1970 from the Singer Sewing Machine Co. of Dayton. Mrs. Meadors was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gratis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Meadors, on Nov. 1, 1985.
Survivors include daughters, Rebecca Bell of Antioch, Tenn., Patricia Kearney and Geneva Meadors, both of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Jean Schelcher of Miamisburg and Karen Montgomery of Eaton; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Baker and Billy Baker, both of Lexington, Ky., and Boyce Baker of Hamilton; sisters, Rebecca Pease and Mary Souder, both of Kentucky, Faye Wooten of Indiana, Sarah Pease and Sally Huff, both of Hamilton, and Mabel Turner of Florida.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 26, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Norman Meadows officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
Mary L. Clayman
Mary L. Clayman, 94, formerly of New Westville, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Heartland of Eaton.
Born March 6, 1904, in Scott County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel S. and Mandy (Harper) Peters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Clayman, in 1979; sons, James and Raymond Clayman; daughter, Rosie Clayman; and sister, Maggie Hensley.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Flora and Herman Hofacker of New Paris, and Lucille Pease of Eaton; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Laverne Clayman of New Westville, Chester "Pete" and Eula Taylor of Eaton, and John Clayman of Brownsfield, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 28, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Steven L. Schwier officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
Paul E. Craig
Paul E. Craig, 74, formerly of New Paris, died Thursday afternoon, Dec. 24, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton after an extended illness.
Born July 3, 1924, in Henry County, Ind., he was the son of Paul K. and Francis (Watson) Craig. He was a 1942 graduate of Knightstown (Ind.) High School, and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Craig retired in 1988 from Ahaus Tool Company in Richmond, Ind. He was a life member of A.T.A.-National, Amvets Post 726 of Eldorado and the Gettysburg Sportsman's Club.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Gladys M. Craig; a daughter, Carol Ann Downing of Fayetteville, N.C.; a son, Robert J. Craig of Pennsylvania; five brothers, William Craig of New Castle, Ind., Robert Craig of Martinsville, Ind., Frank Craig and Leroy Craig, both of Shirley, Ind., and James Craig of Knightstown, Ind.; one sister, Helen Craig of Knightstown, Ind.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Leslie C. Yeager officiating. Full military graveside services and burial were in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown, Ind.

Mary J. Bourne
Mary J. "Molly" Bourne, 94, of 310 N. Cherry St., Eaton, died Friday, Dec. 25, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Dec. 14, 1904, in Benhams, Va., she was the daughter of the late James and Viola (Reynolds) Fleenor, and had lived in Preble County most of her life. She was a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ; Rachel Rebekah Lodge #144 of Eaton, where she was awarded the Decoration of Chivalry; and a member of the Eaton Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Dale Koons of Eaton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Betty Bourne, William and Joyce Bourne, all of Eaton, and Ronald and Freida Bourne of Amherst, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Reed Fleenor of Sunnyvale, Calif.; two sisters, Artis Ketring of Greenville and Ruby Wyand of Sarasota, Fla.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fayette I. Bourne, on Feb. 11, 1984; two brothers, Karl Fleenor and Ernest Fleenor; three sisters, Sylvia Fleenor, Annabelle Fleenor and Martha Hutton; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. James C. Sizelove officiating. Visitation and Rachel Rebekah Lodge services were Monday evening at the funeral home. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Frederick E. Ehler
Frederick E. Ehler, 75, of Lexington-Salem Road, West Alexandria, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, at his home.
Born Aug. 14, 1923, in West Alexandria, he was the son of Robert and Bertha (Oyler) Ehler. He was a lifetime farmer, a construction worker, and had retired from the GM Inland plant in 1986. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, West Alexandria, and the Preble County Farm Bureau.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen, in 1980; his parents; and three sisters, Vera Stewart, Lucille Ehler and Carrie Glander.
Survivors include a daughter, LuAnn Hollon of Eaton; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Karen Ehler of West Alexandria; a granddaughter, Emily Ehler of West Alexandria; and a sister, Ethel Dafler of Brookville.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 28, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Daniel Snider officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.

Larry V. Lakes
Larry V. Lakes, 58, of Camden died Friday, Dec. 25, at his home.
Born Feb. 6, 1940, in Hamilton, he was the son of Raymond and Olive (Bowling) Lakes. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from June 5, 1958, to June 30, 1980, retiring as a sergeant major. He was later employed in civil service as a configuration management specialist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton. He was a member of VFW Post 1577 in Camden.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Michael) Lakes, whom he married June 5, 1961, in Nashua, N.H.; one daughter, Tamella Lakes Gonzales of Santa Fe, N.M.; a half brother, Myron Lakes of Dayton; a half sister, Trina Cline of Dayton; and two grandchildren, Aaron and Alex Gonzales.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, 249 N. Main St., Camden, with the Rev. David Tackett officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.
John D. Schoenling
John D. Schoenling, 51, of Portage, Ind., died Monday, Dec. 21, after a long bout with cancer.
Born July 12, 1947, in Hamilton, he was the son of John and Martha (Minkenbough) Schoenling. He was a 1965 graduate of Eaton High School, and had earned his B.S. degree in supervision and an A.S. degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University.
He was employed as an industrial engineer for U.S. Steel for 31 1/2 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Vietnam War, and was a member of the Southlake Church of the Nazarene in Portage.
Survivors include his wife, Donna (Linxwiler) Schoenling, whom he married Sept. 1, 1967, in Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Bob (Kaye) Schoenling of Indianapolis, Ind., and Tim (Kristy) Schoenling of Valparaiso, Ind.; one daughter, Rita (David) Lyons of Indianapolis, Ind.; his parents, John and Martha Schoenling of Camden; five grandchildren, Noah Schoenling, Joshua, Jacob and Kaylea Lyons, and Katelyn Schoenling; one brother, James (Elaine) Schoenling of Eaton; and one sister, Lois (Tony) Oxley of Portland, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 24, at Southlake Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Russell Hosey officiating. Burial was in McCool Cemetery at Portage. Engel Funeral Home, Portage, Ind., was in charge of arrangements.
Arnold Cook
Arnold Cook, 73, formerly of Camden, died Sunday, Dec. 27, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Born May 10, 1925, in Hamilton, he was the son of the late James and Eva (Campbell) Cook. He grew up in Camden, and had farmed in the Preble County area for many years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Camden.
Survivors include three brothers, Paul Cook and Joseph Cook, both of Richmond, Ind., and Claude Cook of Dayton; and one sister, Mary (Alfred) Tillery of Fountain City, Ind.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Cook; and a sister, Agnes Winters.
Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Dec. 30, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, 249 N. Main St., Camden, with the Rev. Fred Hill officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon, just prior to services on Wednesday. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.
Jack D. Baker
Jack D. Baker, 68, of Lebanon, formerly of Lewisburg and Eaton, died Sunday, Dec. 27, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born July 15, 1930, in Dayton, he was the son of the late Ernest L. and Perdita (Ford) Baker. He retired in 1988 from the Dayton Daily News, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Baker was a member of VFW Post #975, West Sonora; F&AM #159, Camden; Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton; Royal Arch Masons of Ohio - Eaton #22; Preble Council #135, Royal and Select Masons of Ohio; Reed Commandery #6 Knights Templar of Dayton; and Order of Eastern Star, Ideal Chapter #293, Lewisburg.
His wife, Vivian (Gebhart) Baker, preceded him in death in 1997.
There are no immediate survivors.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, 411 N. Commerce St., with the Rev. Roger K. Braun officiating. Friends may call from noon-2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Jerry A. Wyatt
Jerry Allen Wyatt, 51, of 405 1/2 SW 3rd St., Richmond, Ind., died at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis Sunday, Dec. 27, as a result of an accident.
Born Sept. 22, 1947, in Richmond, he had lived in that community most of his life. He had worked as a carpenter and a plumber. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, was a member of Howard Thomas American legion Post #315, and attended Pentecostal Tabernacle of Richmond.
Survivors include a son, Jamey Wyatt of New Paris; a daughter, Wendy Wyatt of New Paris; his parents, the Rev. William H. and Genevieve (Petitt) Wyatt of Richmond, Ind.; a brother, William H. Wyatt Jr. of Richmond, Ind.; three sisters, Sharon Kay Coldiron of Connersville, Ind., Gloria Mae Smith of Barbourville, Ky., and Gail Lynne Wyatt of Richmond, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jacob Todd Wyatt.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Chapel, Richmond, Ind., with the Rev. William H. Wyatt officiating. Burial, with military rites by Wayne County Veterans Council, will be in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.
