Timothy W. Trader
Timothy "Tim" W. Trader, 21, of 502 Lexington Ave., Eaton, died unexpectedly Friday morning, Jan. 1, as a result of an accident near Ross, Ohio.
Born Nov. 30, 1977, in Cincinnati, he was a 1996 graduate of Eaton High School, and was employed with Carlisle Equipment of Dayton.
Survivors include his parents, William R. and Beverly A. (Reece) Trader of Eaton; paternal grandmother, Sylvia Trader of Cincinnati; maternal grandparents, Merritt and Wanda Reece of Eaton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Shelley Trader, Keith and Carrie Trader, and Mark Trader, all of Eaton; two nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 5, at the First Church of God, Eaton, with the Rev. Jerry Reynolds officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton High School Band.
Joshua R. Creech
Joshua R. Creech, 15, of Gratis, died Sunday, Jan. 3, at Children's Medical Center in Dayton.
Born April 8, 1983, he was a sophomore at Preble Shawnee High School, where he was active in the high school choir and drama club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Lebanon.
Survivors include his mother, Connie Creech of Gratis; his father, Randall Creech of Cincinnati; a brother, Jonah Creech of Gratis; maternal grandparents, Henry and Alena Powell of Kettering; maternal great-grandmother, Hazel Powell of Ervin Ky.; paternal great-grandmother, Will Mae Gibbs of Franklin; stepmother, Dawn Creech; stepbrother, Stephen Watson; a half brother, Jeremy Creech and a half sister, Erica Creech.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lewis and Christine Stuart, and Wendell Gibbs.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Gratis, with the Rev. Jim Whorton officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Medical Center Cancer Fund.
Stanley Cooper
Stanley Cooper, 89, of Gratis, died Monday, Jan. 4, at Sycamore Medical Center in Miamisburg.
Born June 16, 1909, in Campbellstown, he was the son of Charles and Daisy (House) Cooper. He was in the grocery business years ago and retired from Rexarc, Inc. in 1974 after 23 years. He had served on the Gratis Village Council, Gratis Fire Department, and was president of the Gratis Street Market.
Mr. Cooper was a member of Gratis Eden Odd Fellows Lodge #147; a member of King Hiram #88, F&AM; Scottish Rite Dayton; Antioch Shrine; Preble County Shrine Club and past president of Antioch Photo Unit.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruby Cooper; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Dorothy Cooper of Gratis; two daughters, Phyllis Monroe and Delores Duncil, both of Eaton; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a niece, Lu Jeane Beane of Eaton.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Freeda Landis; and two sons-in-law, Paul Duncil and Edward Monroe.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Gratis, with the Rev. Robert French officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the funeral home, where Odd Fellow services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Lillie F. Grimes
Lillie F. Grimes, 52, of 80 U.S. 40 East, Lewisburg, died Friday, Jan. 1, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton of injuries from an auto-pedestrian accident in Preble County.
She had worked in the dietary department at Richmond State Hospital in Richmond, Ind, and was caretaker of the Sandman Apartments.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Grimes, in July 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy L. Jenkins of Eldorado; a son, Troy E. Grimes of Greencastle, Ind.; two sisters-in-law, Stella J. Grimes and Cora M. Dulaney, both of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Tabatha K. Jenkins, Dustin J. Grimes and Natasha Nicole Evans; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St., with the Rev. Sam Shilot officiating. The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m., just prior to services, on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.
James P. Finley
James P. Finley, 85, of Eaton, died Monday, Jan. 4, at Fayette County Memorial Hospital in Washington Court House, Ohio.
Born June 23, 1913, in Buffalo, Ohio, he was the son of Charles Harrison and Helen (Stevens) Finley. He retired in 1990 from Golden Giant Steel Buildings in Kenton, and had formerly worked for Caterpillar of Cincinnati. He was a member of Eaton Baptist Temple.
Survivors include his former wife, Judy Finley of Eaton; sons, Dave and James Finley, both of Eaton; a daughter, Leasa Ludy of Eaton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Knight.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas T. Daly
Thomas T. Daly, 69, of Lewisburg, died Sunday, Jan. 3, at Hospice of Dayton following an extended illness.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War; and was a member of VFW Post 3288 and American Legion Post 289, both of Brookville.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Lynn Daly; daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Joseph Roesle of Clayton, Penny and Marion Alexander of Englewood; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and JiIl Daly of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Heather Shingledecker, Joseph Roesle IV, James Alexander, Jeremy Alexander, Thomas Daly and Jessica Daly; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty DeMerle of Lewisburg, Joan (Ed) Cook of Jacksonburg; a brother, Bill (Betty) Daly of Huber Heights; numerous nieces and nephews.
A VFW service will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 7, at Gilbert-Fellers Funeral Home, Brookville, followed by burial in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.

John Smith
John Smith, 71, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 22.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Maud; four children, Miclelle, Cheryl, Kenny and Russell; seven grandchildren; one stepdaughter; one stepson; two brothers, Russell Smith of Texas and Charles Smith of Arizona; two sisters, Judy Eby of Eaton and Patricia Clifford of Aiken, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Myrtle Smith; a son, John Smith Jr.; two brothers, James Smith of Eaton and Harry R. Smith of Florida.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 25, in Florida, with burial in Riverside Memorial Park there.
Mary A. Lindsey
Mary A. Lindsey, 89, of Eaton, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 1, at Governor Harris Homestead after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 12, 1909, in Wheeling, W. Va., she was the daughter of Frederick W. and Rebeca (Raul) Altstaetter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Lindsey Sr., in 1988; and a brother, Raoul Altstaetter.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Ruth Lindsey of Camden; a sister, Antonia A. Rhodes of Highlands, N.C.; two grandchildren, William and Elizabeth Lindsey; four nieces and three nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 6, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Oxford, with the Rev. Grant Barber officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Marvin E. Mt. Castle
Marvin E. Mt. Castle, 77, of Eaton, died Monday, Feb. 1, at Grandview Hospital in Dayton.
Born Oct. 4, 1921, in Eaton, he was the son of the late James and Pearl (Ayers) Mt.Castle, and had lived in Preble County most of his life. He retired in 1978 as a plumber from Delco Moraine (General Motors) after 30 1/2 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was a colonel of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
Mr. Mt.Castle was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows Eden Lodge #147, Gratis. He served as grand master of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows from 1976-1977; was grand patriarch for the Grand Encampment of Odd Fellows from 1981-1982; and also served 17 years as the district deputy grand master.
He was a member of the Canton Occidental #21, Springfield. He received the Declaration of Chivalry for outstanding services, one of the highest jewels to be presented in Odd Fellowship. Mr. Mt.Castle was a member of Rachel Rebekah Lodge #144 for 33 years; Bolivar Lodge #82, F&AM, Eaton; Royal Arch Masons, Eaton Chapter #22; Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton; and Antioch Temple, Dayton.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Margaret C. (Dafler) Mt.Castle; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Gerald Mt.Castle; sisters, Huldah Newman and Eileen Crothers.
Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 4, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria, with the Preble County Veterans' Honor Guard conducting military graveside services. Odd Fellow services were conducted following visitation on Wednesday.

Joseph J. Furrey
Joseph "Joe" J. Furrey, 84, of Eaton, died Monday, Feb. 1, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born May 27, 1914, in Gratis, he was the son of Frank and Anna (Kuhlenkamp) Furrey. He was a 1933 graduate of Gratis High School, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; and retired in 1974 from NCR Corp. after 30 years. He owned and operated the Stanley Steamer franchise for the Preble County area from 1975-1985.
Mr. Furrey was a member of Visitation Catholic Church in Eaton; financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus #3698; and was a certified timekeeper for Harness Racing.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Furrey, in 1988; and a sister-in-law, Louella Furrey, in 1996.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Margaret (Kastner) Furrey; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Jennifer Furrey of Indianapolis, Ind., Robert Sr. and Sheila Furrey, James Furrey and John Furrey, all of Eaton; a daughter, Rebecca Furrey of Eaton; grandchildren, Scott and Lori Trunck, Robert Furrey Jr., Richard and Ronnie Wehrly; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hayden Trunck; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass was Friday, Feb. 5, at Visitation Catholic Church, Eaton, with the Rev. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. A Rosary service was conducted following visitation on Thursday. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
