Verna Miller
Verna Miller, 87, formerly of West Alexandria, died Monday, Jan. 18, at Heartland of Eaton.
Born Sept. 5, 1911, in Union County, Ind., she was the daughter of Francis Albert and Rosa F. (Gard) John.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy H. Miller, whom she married April 1, 1930; her parents; and a sister, Ethel Marie Minnick.
Survivors include two sons, and daughters-in-law, William and Myrna Miller of Englewood, James and Sandy Miller of West Alexandria; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and her twin sister, Verla Walters of Tampa, Fla.
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 21, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, with Pastor Fred Hill officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis.
Rosemary H. Wilson
Rosemary H. Wilson, 68, of Eaton, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 19, at Franciscan Medical Center in Dayton following a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 1, 1930, in Youngstown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Marguerite (Welch) Hughes. She moved to Preble County from Youngstown in 1964 and had been a resident of Eaton for the past 18 years. She was actively associated with the Set Free Ministries in Medway.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin and Jack R. Hughes; and two sisters, Edna Robinson and Eleanor Hughes.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Donald Wilson, whom she married Oct. 5, 1957; sons, Robert Wilson of Eaton, Martin Wilson of Richmond, Ind., and James Wilson and wife Judy of Hartford, Ky.; a daughter, Marguerite "Peggy" Wilson of Eaton; grandchildren, Micah, Roseanna, Shauna, Monica, Elizabeth and Megan; sisters, Theresa Evans of Ellerton, Fla., and Mary Grace Ragan of Kissimmee, Fla.; and other relatives.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 23, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Charles Hawkins and the Rev. Denver Jewell officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
Charles D. Legg
Charles D. Legg, 59, of Dade City, Fla., died recently.
Born Feb. 3, 1939, in Vincennes, Ind., he moved to Dade City 21 years ago from Vero Beach, Fla. He was a light equipment operator for the Dade City Water Treatment Department, and was a member of the White Chapel Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Marolyn "Willie" Legg; two daughters, Sherry Harrington of Plattsville, Ala., and Brenda Thompson of Chatsworth, Ga.; six sons, Jimmy Legg, Dawaine Legg and Chuck Legg, all of Vero Beach, Fla., Ronald Legg of Jacksonville, Fla., James Williams of Chatsworth, Ga., and Roger Williams of St. Augustine, Fla.; a sister, Linda Harris of Eaton; 20 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Oma A. Legg Keehner; his father, Harry O. Legg; a sister, Thelma M. Elwood; and a brother, Lloyd E. Legg.
Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 17, at Oakley Funeral Home, Dade City, Fla.

Clara A. Francis
Clara A. Francis, 81, of West Court Street, West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born March 22, 1917, she was the daughter of Millard and Ruth (Unger) Buckingham. She had worked as a supervisor at McCall Corporation in Dayton for many years. Mrs. Francis was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in West Alexandria, the Moose Lodge in Miamisburg, the Preble County Senior Citizens and the New Lebanon Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Francis, in 1984; her parents; and a brother, Charles Unger Buckingham.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill J. and Betty Smith of Tipp City, John M. and Karen Smith of Norfolk, Va., David E. and Kris Smith of Aurora, Ind.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Gene Carter, Sue and Don Brunk, all of New Lebanon; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Jean Smith of Eaton; and a stepson, Dick Francis of Eaton.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 23, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Daniel Snider and the Rev. Verl Light officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Frank O. Finney
Frank O. Finney, 87, of West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born July 13, 1911, in Dayton, he was the son of Florence Finney. He had retired in 1975 from the Preble County Highway Department, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of James E. Ryan Post #322 American Legion and the Veteran of Foreign Wars in Brookville.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Finney; two sons, Frank Finney of Centerville, Ohio, and Douglas Finney of Eaton; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 24, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Robert French officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Rose F. Cullers
Rose F. Cullers, 91, formerly of Eaton, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the Brethren's Home in Greenville, where she had been a resident for the past four years.
Born Feb. 19, 1907, in Eaton, she was the daughter of Joseph and Carmella (Detilla) Trantanella. She had worked at the Indianapolis Glove Company in Eaton, and was a member of Visitation Catholic Church in Eaton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Cullers Sr., in 1980; a son, William H. Cullers Jr., in 1929; brothers, August "Gus" Trantanella, in 1956, and Anthony Trantanella, in 1921; two sisters, Philipena Longo, in 1980, and Josephine M. Schilling, in 1986; and a grandson, Matthew Scott Cullers, in 1992.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, James W. and Alice W. Cullers of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Eugene and Katherine Cullers of Greenville; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Jane and James Davis of Tucson, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was Saturday, Jan. 23, at Visitation Catholic Church, Eaton, with the Rev. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. A Rosary service was held Friday evening following visitation at the funeral home. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Wilma E. Shock
Wilma E. Filley Shock, 84, of Eaton, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, at her home after a recent illness.
Born June 28, 1914, in Lawrence County, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Worthington and Clemmetine (Stephens) Emmons, and had lived in Preble County most of her life.
Mrs. Shock retired in 1975 after 32 years at General Motors Corporation in Dayton. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Preble County Widows-Widowers and the Inland Retirees Club, and had been a Red Cross volunteer for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Shock; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith E. and John L. Hacker of Eaton; two granddaughters, Veneta (Deron) McEldowney and Dina (Jeff) Zepernick; a great-granddaughter, Angela Rust; a stepdaughter, Virginia Katzenmier of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two step-grandchildren; a brother, Charles W. Emmons of Vernon Hills, Ill.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Homer E. Filley, on March 14, 1975; and a half brother, Edward Watts.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 23, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Suzanne Dillahunt officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.

Terry L. Ritchie
Terry L. Ritchie, 51, of 316 S. Eastside Drive, Lakeland, Fla., died of cancer Thursday, Jan. 14, at her home.
Born Oct. 17, 1947, in Hamilton, she was the daughter of Thomas and Phyllis (Wysong) Dane. She was a 1965 graduate of Eaton High School and a 1966 graduate of Reid Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, Ind., with an LPN degree. She had lived in the Dayton/Xenia area and worked at Miami Valley Hospital before moving to Jackson, Ky.
In 1982, she moved to Florida and was a nurse for the Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She worked as a liaison with diabetics, was a Baptist by faith, and was active in several bowling leagues.
Survivors include her husband, John P. Ritchie, whom she married Jan. 18, 1969; her father, Thomas Dane of Camden; a daughter and son-in-law, Heather A. and Dario Ferrer of Lakeland, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Terrie L. Pereze of Las Vegas, Nev.; stepsons, John P. Ritchie Jr. of Jackson, Ky., Brent J. "Joey" Ritchie of Winchester, Ky., and Thomas L. Ritchie of Aurora, Ohio.
Also surviving are two sisters, Sandra Rose of Camden and Brenda Schroeder of Phoenix, Ariz.; four brothers, Phillip, Scott and Brent Dane, all of Eaton, and Mark Dane of Boston, Ind.; six grandchildren; a half sister, Roselee Cottle of Middletown; and a half brother, John Dane of Centerville, Ohio.
She is also survived by her aunt, Mary Ann Eakins, who recently relocated to Lakeland, Fla.; nieces, nephews, half nieces, half nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a son, Shannon James Ritchie; a daughter, Hope Lynn Ritchie; her mother, Phyllis Jane Dane, in May 1988; her grandmother, Martha Dane, in November 1995; an aunt and uncles.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 16, at the home of her daughter in Lakeland. Choice Cremation and Funeral Care, Lakeland, Fla., was in charge of arrangements.

Dayton O. Noland
Dayton O. Noland, 97, of Constitution, Ohio, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 21, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton.
Born Sept. 12, 1904, in Warren Township, Ohio, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Lavina (Hinton) Noland. He had attended Green Hills School in Warren Township, and had spent all his life in that community before moving to Eaton a year ago to be cared for.
He had been superintendent of Hall's Grindstone Company, and was later employed by Ohio Valley Builders Supply Company as a bulldozer operator until his retirement at the age of 83. He was a member of Cutler Chapel United Methodist Church.
On Sept. 1, 1926, he married Virgie Hardie, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 9, 1993.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Delbert and Jean Noland of Eaton, David and Beverly Noland of Fountain City, Ind., Donald and Sharon Noland of Marietta; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, James Frederick Noland; a son, Dayton Noland Jr.; two sisters, Ethel Pinkerton and Chrissie Radabaugh; three brothers, Lester Noland, Amuel Noland and Loring Reuben Noland; and one grandson, Duane Noland, who was killed in Guam in 1978.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 25, at Cutler Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Randolph officiating. Burial was in Gravel Bank Cemetery. McClure-Schafer Funeral Home, Marietta, Ohio, was in charge of arrangements.
Norbert J. Schutte
Norbert J. Schutte, 73, of Eaton, died Friday, Jan. 22, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Born Sept. 13, 1925, in Hamilton, he was the son of Frank A. and Harriett M. (Kapp) Schutte. He retired in 1986 from Browning Distribution Center in Eaton, and was a U.S. Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Schutte was a past member of Visitation Catholic Church in Eaton, and had attended the Eaton Full Gospel Temple. He was a member of the American legion, and was a ham radio operator under the call sign N8IWI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, William Schutte.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys J. (Hemmelgarn) Schutte, whom he married Nov. 24, 1955; three sons, Craig Albert Schutte and Charles Allan Schutte, both of Eaton, and Gregg Theodore Schutte of Richmond, Ind.; a daughter, Rebecca Ann Borck of New Paris; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elaine Smith of Fairfield, Ohio, and Martha J. Czeck of Eaton.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 25, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Raymond Rothwell officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
