Jesse Wysong Jr.
Jesse Wysong Jr., 75, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Wednesday, March 17, at Specialty Hospital in Jacksonville following a lengthy illness. He was a former resident of Eaton.
Born June 26, 1923, in Brookville, he was the son of the late Jesse Sr. and Bertha (Spitler) Wysong. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Wysong retired from Parker Hannifin Co., having worked at both the Lewisburg and Eaton plants.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary C. (Roach) Wysong, on Jan. 27, 1987; and a brother, Carl Wysong.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Virginia Wysong of Richmond, Ind.; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ronald Jones of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Jeff Wysong and wife Dianna of Eaton, Angie Adkins and husband Dwight of Dayton; six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers, Elmer Wysong of Dayton, Corwin Wysong and wife Ada of West Alexandria, Earl Wysong and wife Kathryn of Brookville, Glen Wysong and wife Evelyn of New Lebanon; special other family, Jack and Jenny Bryan, Allison and Will Bryan of McDonough, Ga., Jim and Tammy Harper of West Alexandria.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 20, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Jerry Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Preble County Cancer Society, to the American Lung Association, or to the Eaton First Church of God.
Allene Potts
Allene Potts, 86, of Heartland of Greenville, died Saturday morning, March 20, at Wayne Hospital in Greenville after an extended illness. She formerly resided on Walnut Street, New Paris.
Born Sept. 3, 1912, in Livingston, Ky., she was the daughter of Harrison and Lula (Perciful) Cope. She attended the Gospel Church in New Paris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edgar Potts, in 1984; brothers, Leonard Cecil Cope, George William Cope, James Henry Cope and John Calvin Cope; and a sister, Myrtle Cope.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Pauline and Jerry Rinehart of New Paris, Barbara Jean and Steve Charles of Dayton; sisters, Hazel Ponder and Pearl King, both of New Paris, Beulah Wentz of Warsaw, Ind., and Ethel Samdal of Eaton; two grandchildren, James Rinehart and Steven Wayne Humphrey; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, 109 W. Main St., with the Rev. Gilmer Smith officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Locust Grove Cemetery near Peebles, Ohio.
John A. Gerber
John Albert Gerber, 75, of Collinsville, died Saturday, March 20, at his home.
Born Jan. 8, 1924, on the farm where he lived his entire life, he was the seventh child of the late John August and Mary (Truster) Gerber. He was a 1942 graduate of Seven Mile High School. He retired from Armco Steel after 20 nears in the annealing department, and also worked for many years as a field reporter for the USDA ASCS Farm Service Agency.
He served as president of the Collinsville Livestock Protection Association, chairman of the Milford Community ASC Committee, inspector for the Katahdin Hair Sheep International, was a member of the National Saanen Breeders Association and the American Polled Hereford Association.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Jean (Harden) Gerber, whom he married Aug. 26, 1944; four children, Harriet Freeland of Wilmington, Douglas Gerber of Richmond, Ind., Stephen Gerber of Waltham, Mass., and John Gerber of Athens; seven grandchildren, Sarah and Aaron Rockwell, Douglas J.L. Gerber, Joni, Anna, Henry and David Gerber; a great-grandchild, Brittany Angst; a sister, Helen Ramsdell of Middletown; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Clara, Ruth (Marsh), Mary (Ortman); and brothers, Fred and Paul Gerber.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, followed by funeral services from 7-8 p.m. at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2424 S. Sutphin St., Middletown. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 25, in Collinsville Cemetery. Breitenback-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, Middletown, is in charge of arrangements.

Harold H. Hartman
Harold H. Hartman, 64, of West Carrollton, died Saturday, March 20, at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering.
He was a retired employee of DESC with 30 years of service, and a U.S. Army veteran. He was well known for his woodworking and crafts.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Marilyn L. Hartman; daughter and son-in-law, Joan D. and Joseph H. Gabriel of Zanesville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Helen Hartman of Crestline, Charles and Doris Hartman of Mansfield; two sisters and brother-in-law, Etta Mae and Lowell Ford of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Marylou Thoman of Galion; two grandchildren, Vincent J. and John H. Gabriel; and a special cousin, Betty Agresti of Sterling, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Mary Hartman; a brother, David Hartman; and a sister, Martha Jane Hartman.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 23, at Swart Funeral Home, West Carrollton, with the Rev. Richard Faust officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.
Elizina M. Wysong
Elizina Marie (Mann) Wysong, 90, of 1014 Portage St., Kissimmee, Fla., died Monday, March 22, at Donegan Health Care in Beverly, Fla.
Born July 17, 1908, in Eaton, she moved from Eaton to Kissimmee in 1955. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Eaton and attended the First United Methodist Church in Kissimmee.
Survivors include two sons, James F. Wysong of Riverview, Fla., and Stephen Wysong of Kissimmee, Fla.; a daughter, Joanne Langbehn of Tampa, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron "J.B." Wysong, on Aug. 18, 1974.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the graveside in Osceola Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Dr. Robert B. Bushong and the Rev. Dr. Bob Reaves officiating. Grissom Funeral Home and Crematory, Kissimmee, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
Charles E. Lock
Charles Edward Lock, 88, of Lewisburg, died Friday, March 5, at Heartland of Eaton.
Born June 23, 1910, in Harrison Township (Preble County), he was the son of the late Samuel Edward and Georgia Etta (Brock) Lock. He was a 1928 graduate of Lewisburg Union High School. He retired in 1975 as the owner/operator of Lock's Hardware in Lewisburg; was a former member of the Preble County Board of Elections and chairman of the Democratic Party; past councilman and mayor of Lewisburg; and served as the air raid warden for Lewisburg during World War II.
Mr. Lock was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Libanus Lodge #80, Ideal Chapter #293 of the Order of Eastern Star, and a charter member of the Lewisburg Lions Club, all of Lewisburg; Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton and IOOF of Gratis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude (Iler) Lock, in 1994; and a son-in-law, Harold Chrismer, in 1989.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis Jean and Harold Rogers of Troy; grandchildren and spouses, Scott W. and Pat Chrismer of Lewisburg, Mark E. and Beth Chrismer of St. Peters, Mo., and Lisa K. Chrismer of Punta Gorda, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Rashonda, Rachael, Lindsay, Dylan and Megan Chrismer.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 511 N. Commerce St., Lewisburg, with the Rev. James N. Lehman officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, at the church, where IOOF services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. and Masonic Lodge services at 10:45. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara J. Brandly
Barbara J. Brandly, 59, formerly of Four Mile-State Line Road, Eaton, died Sunday, March 21, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton after an extended illness.
She was born July 24, 1939, in Eaton, and was a 1957 graduate of Eaton High School. Mrs. Brandly was a secretary at the Dixon building for the Eaton City Schools, and a member of the Modern Mothers Club in Dixon Township.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Brandenburg, in 1960.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Darrell Ellis "Pete" Brandly of College Corner, Ohio; her mother, Goldie (Heckman) Brandenburg of Eaton; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike S. and Suzanne Brandly of Columbus, Chris L. and MaryAnn Brandly of Ypsilanti, Mich.
Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, James and Joanne Brandenburg of Eaton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and LeRoy Berry, Marilyn and Richard Collins, all of Eaton; two grandchildren, Marissa and Miranda Brandly; aunts; uncles; one nephew and two nieces; and special friends, Janet Lybrook and Linda Sorrell.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at the funeral home.
Charles H. Peer
Charles H. Peer of 801 W. Limberlost Drive, Space 166, Tucson, Ariz. 85705, formerly of Eaton, died Monday, March 1. He had been a resident of Tucson for 25 years.
He was a retired GM employee. Mr. Peer had been very active in Little League baseball and other activities in the Eaton area.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; two sons, Stephen of Tucson, Ariz., and Jeffrey of Brookville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Myron, in 1993.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Emergency Squad.
Doris H. Devine
Doris H. Devine, 93, formerly of Lee Road, New Paris, died Sunday, March 7, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born April 21, 1905, in Winchester, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Harry G. and Mary (Reynolds) Hickman. She was a 1924 graduate of McKinley High School in Randolph County, Ind., a 1928 graduate of Ball State in Muncie, and received her master's degree in 1938.
She retired in 1968 after 40 years as a school teacher, having taught in Parker, Muncie and Hagerstown, Ind. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Paris, Indiana Retired Teachers and AARP.
Survivors include a stepson, Dale A. Devine of West Liberty, Ohio; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Devine, in 1968; a son, James Robert Murphy, in 1994; sisters, Florence Hickman and Bertha Hickman; and a foster brother, Oscar Barnes.
Graveside funeral services were Monday, March 8, in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris, with Pastor Tim Smith officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 301 E. Main St., New Paris, with Pastor Gary Lee Green officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, to the Preble County Cancer Fund, or to Reid Hospital Foundation-Hospice Unit.
Gerald E. Johnson
Gerald E. "Jerry" Johnson, 61, of New Paris, died Monday, March 8, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born May 14, 1937, in Eaton, he was the son of the late Hubert Lee and Emily Marie (Howard) Johnson. He had worked for York Stamping Company in Richmond for the past 25 years.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Lee Johnson of Waggaman, La., William Eugene Johnson of Versailles and Rocky Lee Johnson of Richmond, Ind.; a daughter, Dawn Lee Coates of Richmond, Ind.; a sister, Doris M. Hughes of Richmond, Ind.; seven grandchildren; a special friend, Peggy Jones and daughters, Juanita, Rhonda and Londa of Richmond, Ind.; one niece and three nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, March 12, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Don Boyer officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.
