Walter G. Acton
Walter G. "Shorty" Acton, 85, of 20 E. Elm St., West Alexandria, died Tuesday morning, April 13, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 13, 1914, in Eaton, he was the son of John C. and Georgia (Miller) Acton. He was a retired butcher and meat cutter, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Acton was a member of American Legion Post #215 of Eaton, and attended Eaton Baptist Temple.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Carl M. in 1992, James in 1936, Cloyd V. in 1946 and Raymond J. in 1970; sisters, Virginia Warner in 1993 and Helen Drummond.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Stephanie Acton of Eaton; a stepson, Arlie Pack of Cape Coral, Fla.; daughters and sons-in-law, Christa and Mike Mattox of Cape Coral, Fla., Karen and Dalton Perry of Eaton, Kathy and Gary Lovell of West Field, Ill.; a brother, Robert Acton of Ft. Worth, Texas; a sister, Rosie Busse of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, April 16, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Tommy E. Welch
Tommy Estel Welch, 74, of Jacksboro, Tenn., formerly of West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 7, at Methodist Medical Center Oak Ridge.
He was the last member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by his parents, Alice (Bullock) and Clyde Welch Sr.; brothers, Hugh, Herbert (Cleo), Eukle, Thurman and Clyde Welch Jr.; a sister, Marie Welch; and a son, Tommy Wayne Welch.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Welch; daughters, Arlene Collins of West Alexandria, Phyllis Hunter of Fort Myers, Fla., and Carolyn Vance of Camden; a son, Dell Ray Welch of Jacksboro, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services were Saturday, April 10, at Bakers Forge Cemetery in LaFollette, Tenn. Funeral Directions, Knoxville, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.

Ethel B. Redmond
Ethel B. Redmond, 63, of Lewisburg, died Tuesday, April 13, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born April 21, 1935, in Pennington Gap, Va., she was the daughter of Brownloe and Queen Dell (Woods) Burton. She had lived in the Lewisburg area since 1969, and retired in 1990 from Baxter Health Care in Eaton after 20 years. She was a member of Lewisburg Christian Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernest C. Redmond, in 1986; sisters, Pauline Olson and Edna Prim; and a grandson, Don Redmond.
Survivors include sons, Herman H. Redmond of Trotwood, Don G. Redmond of Lewisburg, Gary L. Redmond of Richmond, Ind., and James A. Redmond of Arcanum; daughters, Tressia A. Webb of Weatherford, Okla., Linda K. Garrett of Arcanum, Mary Martha Redmond of Dayton, Lisa L. Howard of Lewisburg and Angela D. Williams of Richmond, Ind.
Also surviving are brothers, Luther and Boone Burton, both of Virginia; sisters, Rainy Williams, Mary Nichols, Joyce Wynn and Golden White, all of Salem, Ind., Virginia Boggs of Virginia and Iyvone Clark of Indianapolis, Ind.; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 17, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. Les "Butch" Loranzan officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lewisburg Christian Center, 219 N. Commerce St., Lewisburg, Ohio 45338.

John H. Lee
John H. Lee, 88, of 110 North St., West Manchester, died Wednesday, April 14, at Wayne Hospital in Greenville.
A native and lifelong resident of Preble County, he was born Sept. 24, 1910, son of the late Jason E. and Rosa (Hart) Lee. Mr. Lee was a retired farmer and owned the John H. Lee Moving and Trucking business. He was a member of Price's Creek Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel M. (Grant) Lee, whom he married Aug. 17, 1935; son and daughter-in-law, Clark E. and Mona Lee of West Manchester; daughter and son-in-law, Judy E. and Jim Miller of West Manchester; six grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Lee of New Paris; a sister, Clara Byers of Greenville; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 17, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Michael Chapel, West Manchester, with the Rev. Raymond E. Rothwell officiating. Burial was in Wares Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Central Rescue Squad.

Elmer A. Bruns
Elmer A. Bruns, 86, of Eaton, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 13, at his home.
Born March 19, 1913, in Coldwater, Ohio, he was the son of Frank and Rosa (Wilker) Bruns. He retired in 1985 after 20 years' service as a job setter for Parker Hannifin Corp., and had farmed in Washington Township. He was a member of Visitation Catholic Church, Eaton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Mary Bruns, in 1995; a brother, William Bruns; sisters, Lillian Stammen, Loretta Schweiterman and Norma Geier.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Harold F. and Carol J. Bruns of Eaton, Thomas W. and Lillie M. Bruns of Baldwin, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was Saturday, April 17, at Visitation Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Visitation was Friday, April 16, at the funeral home, followed by Rosary services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Visitation Catholic Church, Eaton, Ohio 45320.

Robert L. Pennix
Robert L. Pennix, 47, of Greenbush Road, Somerville, died Sunday, April 18, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Born Dec. 2, 1951, in West Liberty (Morgan County), Ky., he was the son of the late Lester and Bonnie (Kennard) Pennix. He had lived in Preble County 29 years. He was a supervisor at Miami Valley Paper Co., where he had worked for 28 years.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Rita J. (Coyle) Pennix; a son, Bobby Pennix; two brothers, James Pennix of Cincinnati and Scott Pennix of Germantown; mother-in-law, Mittie "Ma" Coyle; aunts and uncles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Charles "Dicky" Pennix; maternal grandparents, Winford and Mary (Williams) Kennard; and paternal grandparents, Smith and Becky Anne (Lykins) Pennix.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at the Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, 1500 Manchester Ave., Middletown, with the Rev. Bobby Hollon officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairmound Cemetery, West Elkton.

Rodney Dunham
Rodney Dunham, 74, of New Paris, died Friday, April 16, at his home.
Born Jan. 19, 1925, in Camden, he was the son of the late Charles Hobart and Elizabeth Marie (Byers) Dunham. He retired in 1978 after 33 years as a master mechanic for Oberle-Jordre Co., Inc. of Richmond, Ind. Mr. Dunham was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 3205th 6th Amphibious Engineers Brigade, and was awarded one Arrowhead and three Bronze Battle Stars.
He was a member of Faith Community Church of God in Richmond, Ind.; American Legion Post #360 of New Paris; Bolivar Lodge #82, F&AM of Eaton; and Scottish Rite of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Annabelle Norman; brothers, Harold and Kenneth Dunham; and a son-in-law, John E. Horigan.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Juanita (Sherrow) Dunham; sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney L. and Jane Anne Dunham of Eldorado, Charley E. and Candy Dunham of New Paris, Jeffrey A. and Lori Dunham of West Manchester; daughter, Ruth Ann Horigan of Hamilton.
Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Norma Dunham of Renfro Valley, Ky.; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Vance Ketron of Eaton; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, April 19, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Lynn Morey officiating. Burial, with graveside military honors, was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris. Masonic services were held Sunday evening following viewing at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Emergency Squad, New Paris, Ohio 45347; or to Faith Community Church of God, 518 NW "M" St., Richmond, Ind., 47374.

Dorothy G. Toney
Dorothy G. Toney, 84, of 612 Miami Drive, West College Corner, Ind., died Saturday afternoon, April 17, at Oxford View Nursing Center in Oxford.
Born July 2, 1914, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of William E. Sr. and Frieda F. (Eisselle) Grimm. She graduated from Western High School in Washington, D.C., in 1932. She earned a degree from the Washington School for Secretaries, and was employed by the federal government in the Public Works Administration and then the Department of Labor, where she served as a supervisor for two stenographic pools.
She married attorney William E. Toney in June 1952 and moved to West College Corner. Toney, a Union County native, set up his own law practice in Liberty, Ind., and his wife worked for him. She was a member of the College Corner United Methodist Church, a past member of the College Corner Home Ec Club, the Ohiana Literary Review Club and the McCullough-Hyde Hospital Women's Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen E. and Loraine Toney of Muncie, Ind., James F. and Chris Toney of West College Corner, Ind.; a brother, William E. Grimm Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Margaret F. Bodziak of Rockville, Md.; three grandchildren, Matt, Megan and Billy Toney of West College Corner, Ind.; five nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986; her parents; and a brother, Carl E. Grimm, in 1998.
Public graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. (Indiana time) Wednesday, april 21, at College Corner Cemetery, West College Corner, Ind., with the Rev. Ed Scherer-Berry officiating. There will be no public visitation. Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, Ind., is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cincinnati Association for the Blind.

Truman Leisure
Truman Leisure, 75, of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Fairhaven died Monday, April 19, in North Fort Myers.
Born April 14, 1924, in Elwood, Ind., he was the son of John Aubrey and Beulah (Elmore) Leisure. He was a Preble County area farmer and carpenter, and was also employed at Miami University for 10 years. Mr. Leisure was a member of Fairhaven Community Church and the Dayton Emmaus Community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta (Hays) Leisure, whom he married Jan. 2, 1943, in Fairhaven; and a brother, Howard Leisure.
Survivors include Tommae Lu Leisure of North Fort Myers, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Kaye and Darrell Tolley of Camden, Deborah Ann and Donald Taylor of Arcanum; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Kay Leisure of Jacksonville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Leisure of Celina; and a sister, Shirley Keller of Dayton.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 24, at Fairhaven Community Church, with the Rev. John Crutchfield officiating. Burial was in Fairhaven Cemetery. R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice and Pallative Care, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, Fla. 33908; or to Fairhaven Community Church, 6585 Israel-Somers Road, Camden, Ohio 45311.

Daniel L. Shank
Daniel L. Shank, 59, of West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, April 18, at his home.
Born Feb. 14, 1940, in Dayton, he was the son of Walter and Ruth (Priser) Shank. He retired from Integrity Manufacturing Co. of Dayton. Mr. Shank was a member of the Eaton-North Congregation of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda S. (Turner) Shank, whom he married Jan. 18, 1965; sons and daughter-in-law, Daniel L.N. and Lisa Shank of West Alexandria, Corbet L. Shank and Carter L.P. Shank, both of Eaton; grandchildren, Kyleigh Shank and B.J. Shank; his mother, Ruth Shank of Eaton; sister, Karen Spitler of Eaton; brothers, Charles Shank, Pete Shank and Mike Shank, all of Eaton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter, in 1994.
Memorial services were Saturday, April 24, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Brother Doug Fordyce officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton-North Congregation Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses World Wide Fund.
