Nellie L. Carter
Nellie L. Carter, 99, of 1488 Ohio 732, Eaton, died Friday, Jan. 31, 1997, at her home.
Born Jan. 31, 1898, in Hamilton, she was the daughter of Francis V. and Elizabeth A. (Hoel) Bennett. She was a member of Disciples Christian Church of Hamilton from 1908 to 1986. She lived in Hamilton for 72 years before moving to Camden in 1970, and had lived at Heartland of Eaton for five years before going to live with her adopted children, Mack and Victoria Caudill, on Dec. 18, 1996.
She married Edgar H. Carter Aug. 24, 1916, and he preceded her in death on July 29, 1944.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews; cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Hoel and Nancy and Glenn Hoel; and adopted children, Mack and Victoria Caudill.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 3, at R.C. Nein and Sons Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. Jackie Marshall officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.

Iris B. Burton
Iris Birdeen Burton, 80, formerly of East North Street, West Manchester, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, at The Brethren's Home in Greenville.
Born Nov. 18, 1916, in Darke County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Myrtle (Riffle) Burton. She was a retired clerk from the H.L. Green Co., was a member of the West Manchester United Church of Christ and the Women's Church Fellowship.
Survivors include one nephew, Terry Lee Burton of Rising Sun, Ind.; cousins; and three great-nieces.
A brother, Keith E. Burton, is deceased.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Michael Chapel, West Manchester, with the Rev. David A. Ireton officiating. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
Sheila Z. Nelson
Sheila Z. Nelson, 42, of 47 E. Dayton St., West Alexandria, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at her home.
Born Jan. 2, 1955, in Madison, W. Va., she was the daughter of Jerry W. and Janice S. (Collins) Spears. She was a 1973 graduate of Twin Valley South High School and received an associate degree in business administration at Sinclair Community College.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry W. Spears, in February 1992.
Survivors include her mother, Janice S. Overton of West Alexandria; three brothers, Mark A. Spears of Lexington, Ky., Tim Spears of Columbus and Dave I. Spears of West Alexandria; two sisters, Patricia A. Ehlers of Brookville and Sharon K. Blankenship of Eaton; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 7, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Harold P. Combs officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Glenn K. Wise Jr.
Glenn K. Wise Jr. 83, of DeLand, Fla., formerly of Eaton, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, in DeLand.
He retired from Dayton Tire and Rubber Co. with 27 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 1982; and an infant daughter.
Survivors include three sons, Robert K. Wise of Port Orange, Fla., Frank P. Wise and James G. Wise, both of DeLand, Fla.; three daughters, Betty Cain and Frances Patrick, both of Mountain Home, Ariz., and Jean Patterson of Richmond, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Davenport of North Carolina.
Graveside services were Monday, Feb. 10, at Clayton Cemetery in Clayton. Gilbert-Fellers Funeral Home, Brookville, was in charge of arrangements.
Donald A. Heath
Donald A. Heath, 66, of 8327 Freed Road, New Paris, died Thursday evening, Feb. 6, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after a short illness.
Born March 22, 1930, in Richmond (Wayne County), Ind., he was the son of Emil R. and Mable Mae (Brooks) Heath. He had lived in New Paris since 1954, and retired from Alcoa of Richmond in 1983 after 30 years of service.
Mr. Heath was a member of the 25-Year Club of Alcoa; the Alcoa Retirees Club, of which he was a past treasurer for 10 years; a veteran of the Korean War; a member of VFW Post 1108 of Richmond; and a charter member of VFW Post 10381 of New Paris.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Rosa A. (Brock) Heath; a son, Emil Heath of Centerville, Ind.; two daughters, Gail Wigger of West Manchester and Judy Carmony of Wooster; a brother, William Heath of Richmond, Ind.
Also surviving are two sisters, June Pierson of Richmond, Ind., and Delores Feaselman of Troy; a half sister, Sheila Mullins of Richmond, Ind.; four grandchildren, Christy and Deanna Wigger of West Manchester, Clint and Sam Carmony of Wooster.
Graveside services were Monday, Feb. 10, at Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris, with Paul Branson officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Charles H. Pelle Jr.
Charles H. Pelle Jr., 86, of 108 E. Cherry St., New Paris, died Monday, Feb. 3, 1997, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton after a short illness.
Born Nov. 20, 1910, in Alexandria, Ky., he was the son of Charles H. Sr. and Catherine (Binkley) Pelle. He was a graduate of Eaton High School, and had lived in New Paris since 1987 where he moved from Richmond, Ind. He retired in 1974 from the Johns-Manville Corp. after 32 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; and a member of American Legion Post 360 in New Paris.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Florence "Pat" (Paddack) Pelle; two sisters, Mildred Izor of Eaton and Katherine Monahan of El Paso, Texas; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 7, at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary, Richmond, Ind., with Donald Boyer officiating. Burial was in Elkhorn Cemetery near Richmond.

Ray Swank Jr.
Ray Swank Jr., 76, of 5196 Hogpath Road, Greenville, died Friday morning, Feb. 7, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Feb. 29, 1920, in Muncie, Ind., he was the son of the late H. Ray Sr. and Loretta (Bunger) Swank. He retired in 1984 as the executive secretary of Preble County Child Welfare and served as superintendent of St. Clair Springs Children's Home. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; was a member of the Pleasant View Missionary Church of Gettysburg, and had served as deacon of the church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. (Sharp) Swank, whom he married Jan. 4, 1942; a son, the Rev. Thomas L. Swank of Tipp City; three daughters, Mary Alexander of Croswell, Mich., Marti Boyd of Mason, and Miriam Wertz of Mishawaka, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Harry Swank of Longmont, Colo., and the Rev. George Swank of Plymouth, Ind.; three sisters, Kathleen (Rife) Baker, Phyllis North and Barbara Brewer, all of Greenville; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 10, at Pleasant View Missionary Church, Gettysburg, with the Rev. Vic Reffey and the Rev. Richard Studebaker officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fort Jefferson. Zechar Baily Funeral Home, Greenville, was in charge of arrangements.

Elisha C. Harris
Elisha Crit Harris, 80, of Fairhaven, died at his home Sunday, Feb. 9, 1997.
Born Aug. 20, 1916, in Clay County, Ky., he was the son of Thomas and Martha (Henson) Harris. He married Effie Root on Jan. 7, 1939. He was employed at Fisher Body for many years as a pressman before retiring in 1977.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie (Root) Harris, on July 7, 1963.
Survivors include three sons, William "Bill" Harris of Fairhaven, Anderson (Sherry) Harris of Gainesville, Fla., and Estill Harris of Camden; eight daughters, Anna Lee (Golden) Prater, Princess (Donald) Shollenbarger, Martha (Jerry) Finkbine and Barbara (Robert) Smith, all of Hamilton, Kathleen (Larry) Messer and Janice Roark, all of Oxford, Dorothy Grace Harris of Dayton and Leona Harris of Camden.
Also surviving are 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Hobert and Homer Henson; a sister, Irene (Hubert) Hooker; companion and caregiver, Wanda Richards; good friend, Sherry Harris; brother-in-law, Clarence Root; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Allen, Walter and Clarence Harris; two sisters, Rose Jones and Georgia Caudill; two granddaughters, Joanne Eversole and Samantha Finkbine; and a grandson, Rusty Mayberry.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the R.C. Nein and Sons Funeral Home, 249 N. Main St., Camden, with the Rev. Charlie Petit officiating. Burial will be in Fairhaven Cemetery at Fairhaven.
Beverly S. Coppock
Beverly S. Coppock, 47, of 1404 S. 5th St., Richmond, Ind., formerly of Eaton, died Saturday evening, Feb. 8, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond after a short illness.
Born Feb. 17, 1949, in Greenville, she was the daughter of Ray W. and Mildred J. (Green) Coppock. She was a 1967 graduate of Eaton High School and a recent member of the Moose Lodge in Richmond.
Survivors include a sister, Patricia Thompson of Eaton; three nephews; and friend, Lee E. Stonecipher of Richmond, Ind.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St., with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from noon-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
Susie M. Wehrley
Susie M. Wehrley, 84, formerly of East Somers Street, Eaton, died Sunday morning, Feb. 9, 1997, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Born Sept. 4, 1912, in Preble County, she was the daughter of William J. and Mary E. (Potterf) Homan. She had attended the Church of God (East Main Street) in Eaton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chalmer W. Wehrley, in 1993; three sisters, Beulah Myer, Annie Hartman and Faye Culver; and two brothers, Jon and Carl Homan.
Survivors include a son, William J. Wehrley of Camden; a daughter, Susanne Borgwardt of Eaton; a sister, Pearl E. Groves of Tampa, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with the Rev. William J. Wehrley and the Rev. Marvin Hocker officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from noon-2 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens.
