Nellie E. Smallwood
Nellie E. Smallwood, 91, of Preble County Line Road, Middletown, died Monday, July 5, at her home.
Born March 3, 1908, in Greenbush, she was the daughter of Andrew and Lidia (Brell) Walt. She was a member of West Elkton Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Greg Taylor, in 1977.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Myrna and Vince Taylor of Middletown; a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Betty Smallwood of Camden; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Gratis, with the Rev. Ruben Cabanillas and the Rev. Paul Pennington officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 p.m., just prior to services, on Thursday, July 8, at the funeral home.

Linnie M. Cook
Linnie M. Cook, 93, of Camden, died Tuesday, June 8, at Woodland Country Manor near Somerville.
Born July 30, 1905, in Morehead, Ky., she was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Lillie (Cornett) Caudill. She married Paul R. Cook on Aug. 3, 1929, in Hamilton.
Mrs. Cook was a charter member of the Pleasant Avenue First Church of God in Hamilton, a charter member of the Eaton First Church of God, a member of the Camden First Church of God and the Westgate First Church of God in Oxford.
She was preceded in death by a son, Calvin C. Cook; a daughter, Beulah Geis; two brothers, Zora and Oval Caudill; and two sisters, Gladys Leonard and Grace Hogan.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Paul; two daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Gray, Phyllis and Ralph Johnson, all of Camden; a son-in-law, Charles Geis of Buffalo, Wyo.; two brothers and sister-in-law, Clyde and Imogene Caudill of Hamilton, and Clarence Caudill of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Nola and George Treadway of Fayetteville, W. Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 12, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. Clarence Brannon officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3797 Summit Glen Drive, Dayton, Ohio 45449.

Shirley J. Beard
Shirley J. Beard, 62, of 24 Northwest "E" St., Richmond, Ind., died Tuesday, June 8, at her home.
A native and lifelong resident of Richmond, she was born Sept. 13, 1936, the daughter of John Henry Earl French and Hannorah Marie Sheard French Bowman. She was a 1945 graduate of Richmond High School, a 1972 graduate of Reid Hospital School of Practical Nursing, and a 1976 graduate of the IUPUI School of Nursing. She earned a bachelor of science in nursing from St. Francis College in Joliet, Ill., in 1979.
She worked as a registered nurse and retired in 1998 from Reid Hospital as patient care coordinator on the L-4 nursing unit after 38 years of service. After retirement, she worked as a secretary for Beard Masonry.
Mrs. Beard was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Indiana State Nurses Association and was a St. Jude Children's Hospital benefactor.
Survivors include her husband, Cecil S. Beard, whom she married Aug. 15, 1964; six daughters, Kitty J. Boyce of Rochester, Ill., Cecilia M. Beard, Michele D. Fox, Kelly K. Shook, all of Richmond, Ind., Anne Griffin of Williamsburg, Ind., and Sherry L. Fanelli of Dayton; a son, Michael S. Beard of Richmond, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; and a cousin.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mickey Rachelle Preston; and a brother, Robert Lewis.
A prayer service was held Friday, June 11, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Richmond, Ind., followed by Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Todd Riebe officiating. Burial was in Economy Cemetery, Economy, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to Reid Hospital Foundation, 1401 Chester Blvd., Richmond, Ind. 47374; to St . Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, Tenn. 38148; or to St. Mary Catholic Church, 233 S. 5th St., Richmond, Ind. 47374.

Helen J. House
Helen Joyce House, 77, formerly of Sebring-Warner Road, Greenville, died Wednesday, June 9, at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. She had been a resident at Resthaven Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born Feb. 4, 1922, in Darke County, she was the daughter of Basil A. and Ruth M. (James) Ketring.
She was preceded in death by a son, Paul J. House; a daughter, Darla R. House, in 1997; five brothers, James, Boyd, Jack, Basel and Keith K. Ketring; and a sister, Louise Agnes Patton.
Survivors include a son, Michael R. House of Highland, Calif.; brothers, Kenneth K. Ketring of Fairborn and Richard Ketring of San Bernardino, Calif.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 12, at Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home, Eldorado, followed by burial in Twin Creek Chapel Cemetery near West Manchester.

Myrtle Leach
Myrtle Leach, 89, of North Street, Eaton, died Tuesday, June 8, in Richmond, Ind.
Born April 7, 1910, in West Liberty, Ky., she was the daughter of Clark Alexander and Dora (Helton) Short. She had attended Eaton Baptist Temple.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Glover Leach, in 1966; a daughter, Rita Marcum; a daughter-in-law, Jean Leach; two brothers, Walter and Archie Short; and a sister, Nina Wells.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Thomas and Anita Leach, both of Eaton; two sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Leach of Eaton, and Harold Leach of Connersville, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Vogt (Warren) of Miamisburg.
Funeral services were Friday, June 11, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Lowell Spencer officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.

Danielle C. Sawesky
Danielle Cleo Sawesky, infant daughter of Mark and Amy (Rice) Sawesky of West Alexandria, died Wednesday, June 9, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandmother, Karie (Huff) Sampson and husband Chris of Brookville; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Cathy Rice of West Alexandria; maternal great-grandmother, Margie Couch of West Alexandria; paternal grandmother, Bonnie Sawesky of Eaton; paternal grandparents, James and Robin Sawesky of Kentucky; maternal great-great-grandmother, Mae Combs of Hazard, Ky.; paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Hammer of Kettering; two aunts, Heather Warrix and Jamie Sawesky, both of West Alexandria; and two uncles, Scott (Andrianna) Sawesky of West Alexandria and Brian Sawesky of Eaton.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 12, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. J. Herman Bassler officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.

James Groves
James Groves, 67, of Camden, died Friday, June 11, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Born Nov. 29, 1931, he was the son of Samuel and Edith (Root) Groves. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a recipient of the Korean Service Ribbon, the U.S. Service Ribbon, the National Defense Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was self-employed as a truck driver. Mr. Groves was a charter member of VFW Post #1577 and American Legion of Camden.
He was married to Betty Jane Sorrell on Dec. 10, 1955, in Richmond, Ind.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Charles Garnett of Somerville, Tammie and Bob Burns of Hamilton; five grandchildren, Charles, Tim and Geff Garnett of Camden, Christina and Jimmy Burns of Hamilton; three sisters, May Sams of Camden, Freda Stephen of Fairhaven and Ruth Stevens of Oxford; and one brother, Herbert Groves of California.
He was preceded in death by Betty Jane Groves; four brothers, Harold, John Byron and Samuel Groves; and two sisters, Grace Gregg and Mary Jane.
Graveside services were Monday, June 14, at Somerville Cemetery, Somerville.

William Bennett
William Bennett, 87, of Dayton, died Wednesday, June 9, at his home.
Born March 10, 1912, in Harrison Township (Preble County), he was the son of Edgar and Elizabeth Mae (Myers) Bennett. He retired in 1977 after 25 years with Shefield Gage Corp. in Dayton. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lewisburg.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Arafiles, in 1974; and two sisters, Gladys Bennett, in 1979, and Ruth Tankersley, in 1995.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, James and Marilee Bennett of Enon, Bill and Beth Bennett of Concord, Calif.; brothers and sister-in-law, Richard and Mary Bennett, and Eugene Bennett, all of Lewisburg.
Also surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Richard Harding of Beavercreek, Betty Hurley of Brookville, Nina and Robert Hahn of Dayton, Jeanette and Don Wright of Lewisburg; an aunt, Irene Taxis of Brookville; grandchildren, Rob and Kim Sierschula, and Tonya Bennett; great-grandchildren, Andrew Bennett, Tara and Tyler Sierschula.
Funeral services were Monday, June 14, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. James N. Lehman officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Lonnie M. Lainhart
Lonnie Mae Lainhart, 83, of Bantas Creek Road, Eaton, died Friday, June 11, at Heartland of Eaton.
Born Dec. 6, 1915, in Jackson County, Ky., the daughter of Sterling and Laura (Rose) Collins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Omar Lainhart, in 1981; a son, L.D. Lainhart; three brothers, Dewey, Wayne and Harvey Collins; and two sisters, Lizzie Ann Rose and Ethel Hazlett.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Joe and Lois Lainhart of Eaton; six grandchildren, L.D. Lainhart Jr. and special friend, Leslie Gibson, Sue Lainhart-Davis, Joe Allen (Bonnie) Lainhart, Jason (Lisa) Lainhart, Bill Lainhart and Bart Lainhart; eight great-grandchildren, Shane and Katie Davis, Ben and Chris Lainhart, Eric, Zachary and Charles Lainhart, and Noah Lainhart; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, June 14, at Warren-Toler Funeral Home, Irvine, Ky., followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, Alcorn, Ky. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, was in charge of local arrangements.

Christine Pells
Christine Pells, 76, of Camden, died Saturday, June 12, at her home.
Born April 28, 1923, in Old Landing, Ky., she was the daughter of Vollie Lee and Ethel (Durbin) Howell. She married John "Jack" Pells on April 26, 1954, in New Jersey. Mrs. Pells was a U.S. Navy veteran, and had been employed at Hyatt Roller Bearing for five years.
She was preceded in death by a son, John R. Pells; a daughter, Christine Pells; her parents; two brothers, Ora Lee and Mitchell Howell; and four sisters, Shirley Phillips, Elsie (Pat) Evans, Faye Morris and Ruth Fern Howell.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Jack Pells; a son, Leslie Pells; three brothers, Luther (Gladys) Howell of Camden, Leslie (Etta) Howell of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Kenneth (Juanita) Howell of Fairfield; and one sister, Laverne (Walter) Feeney of Anderson, S.C.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, June 15, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Camden, with Father Francis Monnig officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice, 1132 W. Kemper Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45240.

Jeanette Waitman
Jeanette Waitman, 90, of Dayton, died Saturday, June 12.
Survivors include one son, Olen McTeer; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 15, at Magetti Gavin Funeral Home, Dayton. Graveside services and burial followed in Lower Miami Cemetery.
