Charles I. Elmore
Charles I. Elmore, 85, of Hagerstown, Ind., formerly of Lewisburg, died Sunday, Aug. 29, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
He was a retired die maker from Color Box Company, and was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church near Brookville.
Survivors include two sons, Charles (Cindy) Elmore of Hagerstown, Ind., and Richard Elmore of Richmond, Ind.; a daughter, Patricia Ann (Keith) Gales of Wisconsin; a brother, William Elmore of Florida; a son-in-law, Jesse Reese of Lewisburg, 10 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Danny and Carla Stamper of Greensfork, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Belcher) Elmore; and a daughter, Judy Reese.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Kindred Funeral Home, 400 Union Blvd., Englewood, with Pastor John Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the funeral home.

Leo G. Cardone
Leo George Cardone, of Rancho Mirage, Calif., died Saturday, Aug. 21, at his home.
He was the son of Pete and Nora Cardone, and a graduate of Eaton High School and the College of Engineering at Ohio State University. His professional career was devoted entirely to the Space Industry and the research and development of its necessary technology. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; sons, Mark, Bruce, Danny and Damon; grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters, Helen, Irene and Anna.
Carl V. Garrett
Carl Victor Garrett, 75, of Eaton, died Sunday, Aug. 29.
Born Aug. 2, 1924, in Eaton, he was the son of the late Ernest Carl and Grace (Barnhart) Garrett. He was a 1943 graduate of Lanier High School. Mr. Garrett was a farmer and a retired machine operator from Parker Hannifin Corp. He was a member of the Eaton Church of the Brethren and the Preble County Senior Citizen Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha E. (Ludy) Garrett, on Sept. 17, 1996; and two sisters, Helen Woodruff and Julia Pence.
Survivors include three sons, Glen Garrett and Wayne Garrett, both of Eaton, and Dean Garrett of West Alexandria; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Dorothy Reichard of Eaton; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Eaton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Greg A. Hyre officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

B. Agnes Horner
Bertha Agnes Horner, 84, of New Paris, formerly of Braffetsville, died early Monday morning, Aug. 30, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton.
Born June 18, 1915, in the Braffetsville area, she was the daughter of Charles Caleb and Ona Anna (Hill) Wiley, and had lived in the local area all her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Price's Creek Church of the Brethren in West Manchester.
Mrs. Horner was a member of Commodore Preble Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Eaton; an organizing member of DAR Cameo Society for the state of Ohio; an avid genealogy historian; and a former Girl Scout, Brownie and 4-H advisor for Preble County.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Jones of Braffetsville and Janice Shock of Eaton; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald W Horner, on Dec. 6, 1997; and two brothers, Ora Franklin Wiley and Marshall James Wiley.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Storch-Braund Funeral Home, New Madison, with Pastor John Glassock officiating. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home.
Ralph H. Creager
Ralph H. Creager, 80, of Kettering, died Monday, Aug. 30, at Bethany Lutheran Village in Dayton.
Born Sept. 22, 1918, in Preble County, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Nora (Baker) Creager. He graduated from Eaton High School. As a young man, he worked at E. J. Godshall Photography and was manager of the Warren Store, both formerly on North Barron Street in Eaton.
He attended Sinclair College in Dayton and Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., the Dayton Art Institute and The Old Mill Art School in Elizabethtown, N.Y. He was a renowned local artist, instructor of art and owner of The Artist, an art store and gallery in Centerville, Ohio.
Mr. Creager was a former member of the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors, and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Don, Earl, Joe and Ray Creager; a sister, Norma Swain; and a grandson, David Strader.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Wilma; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ann and Don Harlow of Brookville, Sue Strader of Kettering, Carol and Jim Click of Beaver, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Mitch and Charlene Creager of Lexington, Ky.; a sister, Irene Lawson of Eaton; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 2, at Routsong Funeral Home, Kettering, with Pastor Thomas D. Porchaska officiating. Burial was in Phillipsburg Cemetery.
Effie L. Henson
Effie Lou Henson, 79, formerly of Germantown, died Friday, Sept. 3, at the Barbara Parke Care Center in Middletown, where she had been a resident since 1993.
Born Jan. 5, 1920, in Mt. Olivet, Ky., she was the daughter of the late William Herbert and Dora Alice (Robinson) Gough. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Franklin.
Survivors include five daughters, Elaine (Earnest) Mastin of Franklin, Linda (Joe) Douthett of Punta Gorda, Fla., Ina (Luke) Miller of New Lebanon, Sue (Mike) Mathews of Middletown and Fay (Larry) Hester of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Danny Dale (Toni) Henson of Mt. Sterling, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Velma Gough of Paris, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Marvin "Willie" Henson, in 1994; and two sons, William Herbert Henson, in 1939, and Don Henson, in 1990.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Joseph Douthett officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Joseph M. Stover
Joseph Marion Stover, 89, of Loxley, Ala., died Friday, Sept. 3, at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Ala.
A native of Eaton, he was born Sept. 6, 1909, to the late Harry and Bertha Stover.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Anna (Shiver) Stover; a daughter, Judy Bishop of Pensacola, Fla.; a grandson, Joey Bishop of Milton, Fla.; and stepdaughters, Barbara Lovell of Loxley, Ala., Beverly Jeffers and family of Greenville.
A visitation was held Saturday, Sept. 4 at Mack Funeral Home, Robertsdale, Ala. Graveside services were Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton, with the Rev. Brian Dillahunt officiating. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, was in charge of local arrangements.

Wade F. Allen
Wade F. Allen, 83, of Camden, died Monday, May 31, at his home.
Born Aug. 10, 1915, in Liberty, Ky., he was the son of Joseph and Ann (Peck) Allen. He attended Scott's Chapel School. He retired from Hamilton Tool in 1978 after 15 years of service as a master electrician, and was then the self-employed owner of Allen Electric Company. Mr. Allen was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Camden.
On Sept. 17, 1938, he married Martha McFarland in Liberty, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Allen; two brothers, Worth and Carl Allen; and a sister, Lela Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Martha Allen; children, Marge (Willard) Cottingim of Calhoun, Ga., Hazel (Stan) Andrew of Palm Harbor, Fla., Carol (Lee) Montooth of Eaton, Teresa (Steve) Hughes of Liberty, Ind., Leisa (Mike) Kloss of Eau Claire, Wis., Frank Allen of Camden, Ronnie (Donna) Allen of Goldsboro, N.C., Gary (Carol) Allen, Jerry (Linda) Allen, Rudy (Carolyn) Allen, all of Hamilton.; 39 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 3, at the First Southern Baptist Church, Camden, with the Rev. Greg Jackson officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden. R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, was in charge of arrangements.

William J. Coffman
William J. Coffman, 76, of North Commerce Street, Lewisburg, died Tuesday afternoon, June 1, at the VA Medical Center in Dayton after an extended illness.
Born Nov. 21, 1922, in Lewisburg, he was the son of William J. and Laura (Bixler) Coffman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and retired in 1972 after 20 years of service with Westvaco in Eaton.
He was co-founder of the Twin Valley Rod and Gun Club of West Alexandria, and a member of the VFW of Brookville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Coffman, in March; a brother, Chas Coffman; sisters, Maude Newman, Eva Duke and Edith "Toots" Horsey.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Vivian S. (White) Coffman; sons, Steve Coffman of Lewisburg, Todd Coffman of Brookville and Rick Hyatt of Greenville; daughters, Cheryl A. Coffman of Columbia, S.C., Debra J. Burris of Richmond, Ind., Joyce M. Smyer of Lewisburg and Sharon Snyder of Mesa, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, June 7, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. Ralph Helm officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg, with full military graveside honors.

Ruth M. Smith
Ruth M. Smith, 98, formerly of Gratis, died Thursday afternoon, June 3, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Eaton after an extended illness. She had been a resident of Vancrest since February 1993.
Born May 29, 1901, in Farmersville, she was the daughter of Abraham L. and Mahala E. (Booker) King. She was a 32-year member of the Gratis United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Greeley Smith, in 1957; a son, Larry Smith, in 1991; a half brother, Harvey Werts; a half sister, Della Stiver; sons-in-law, Jesse Young Jr., in 1996, and Gerald Stubbs, in 1997; a granddaughter, Gail Martin, in 1996.
Survivors include three daughters and son-in-law, Virginia Young of Findlay, Barbara A. and Wayne Hale of West Alexandria, Donna Stubbs of Eaton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and June Smith of West Elkton, Daryl and Audrey Smith of Riverside, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 5, at Gratis United Methodist Church, Gratis, with the Rev. Harlan Sorensen officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
