Mary E. Jordan
Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Jordan, 82, formerly of Richmond-Palestine Road and Sauer Drive, New Paris, died Sunday evening, Jan. 10, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after an extended illness.
Born on Oct. 29, 1916, in Preble County, she was the daughter of George C. and Bernice (Horner) Wolf, and had been a resident of Darke County most of her life. Mrs. Jordan had been a legal secretary for attorneys in Richmond, Ind. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of New Paris and DAR of Preble County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark J. Jordan Sr., in 1992; a son, Mark J. "Jerry" Jordan Jr., in 1996; brothers, Samuel Wolf and John S. Wolf.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Gerry Prokupek of Worthington, Ohio; two sisters, Dorothy Welsh of Dayton and Margaret Greene of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, Mark J. Jordan III and Kane A. Jordan; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were Tuesday, July 13, at Springlawn Cemetery in New Paris, with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Boyd Tackett
Boyd Tackett, 79, of Camden, died Sunday, July 11, at Fort Hamilton-Hughes Hospital in Hamilton.
Born Feb. 26, 1920, in Beech Fork, Tenn., he was the son of the late Tildon and Susie (Daugherty) Tackett. He married Dorothy Mae Mee on Sept. 6, 1941, in Covington, Ky. He was employed by Rexarc, Inc., retiring in 1983 after 28 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tildon Tackett and Susie Goodman; one brother, Ova Tackett; one sister, Christine Tackett; a half brother, Junior; and a half-sister, Opal.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Tackett; four sons, Jerry B. (Kathleen) Tackett, Donald G. (Cleda) Tackett, all of Camden, Michael P. (Sherrill) Tackett of Eaton, Richard L. (Tami) Tackett of West Alexandria; daughters, Anita Susan (Lee) Walker of Indianapolis, Ind., Nancy Louise (Terry) Miller of Eaton, Marjorie Alice (Rick) Davenport of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Christina Mae Tackett of Camden; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, 249 N. Main St., Camden, with the Rev. Keith Spencer officiating. Burial will be at the Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at the funeral home.

Dorothy E. Sheridan
Dorothy E. Sheridan, 87, formerly of New Paris, died Sunday, July 11, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Ind., after an extended illness.
Born on June 6, 1912, in Colorado City, Colo., she was the daughter of Frank and Ethel (Miller) Mulnix. She had been living in the Parker City and Muncie area the past 15 years. She was a member of the Tuesday Club of New Paris.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Nelson, in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Julia M. and Michael Corbett of Parker City, Ind.; granddaughter and husband, Hinda and David Arbogast of Gahanna, Ohio; and a great-granddaughter, Courtney Arbogast.
Graveside services and burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris, with the Rev. Don Boyer officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2:45 p.m. Wednesday at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, 109 W. Main St.

Gerald G. Dafler
Gerald G. Dafler, 80, of Yuma Drive, London, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 13, in Columbus.
Born June 23, 1919, in Preble County, he was the son of Joseph and Wanda (Unger) Dafler. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and was former owner of the Viena Motel and also the Sharonview Nursing Home.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Freda Dafler; and a brother, Henry A. Dafler.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Dafler of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and David Green of Grove City, Ohio; two grandchildren, Beth (Keith) Tatman of Amanda, Ohio, and Amy Edmonds of Grove City, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Kori, Kendyl and Luke.
Also surviving are seven brothers, Joseph Dafler Jr. of Winston Salem, N.C., Dale Dafler of Ingomar, James Eugene Dafler of West Alexandria, Paul Dafler of Lewisburg, John Dafler of New Lebanon, Fred Dafler of Dublin, Ohio, and Kenneth Dafler of Englewood; three sisters, Carolene Sigler of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Samantha Riffel of Lewisburg and Patricia Murray of Huber Heights.
Funeral services were Friday, July 16, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with Pastor Carl Gaston and Pastor Mark Diemer officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Marjean Ruby
Marjean Ruby, 62, of New Paris, died Thursday morning, July 15, at her home following an extended illness.
Born May 3, 1937, in Dayton, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Blondina E. (King) Bradley. She had worked as a beautician at the JCPenney Styling Salon in Richmond, Ind. She attended the Evangel Assembly of God Church in Eaton, and was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #360 in New Paris.
Survivors include daughters, Brenda Wesler of Marengo, Ind., Linda S. Petry of Eaton and Mary Lou Howard of West Alexandria; son, Walter E. Ruby Jr. of New Paris; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, LaDonna Clark of West Alexandria and JoAnne Bradley of New Paris; and brothers, John R. Bradley of New Paris and Jerry Lee Bradley of Lafayette, Ind.
Funeral services were Monday, July 19, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Paul Wesler officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Robert J. Puthoff
Robert J. Puthoff, 93, of New Paris, died Friday, July 16, at Heartland of Eaton after an extended illness.
Born Sept. 18, 1905, in Richmond, Ind., he was the son of the late John Henry and Clorinda (Trimble) Puthoff. He was a tool maker for International Harvester for 35 years, and retired from the Belden Corporation in 1971.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma (Jaqua) Puthoff, in 1979; a son, Robert L. Puthoff, in 1963; and a daughter, Roberta Puthoff, in 1930.
Survivors include a brother, Harold R. Puthoff of New Paris; a sister, Mildred Shute of Richmond, Ind.; one nephew and one niece.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris, with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

John C. Haas
John Christopher Haas, 27, of 3098 Bath Road, Bath, Ind., died Thursday morning, July 15, from injuries sustained in a tractor accident at his home.
Born Dec. 22, 1971, in Oxford, he had lived in the Bath area all his life. He graduated from Union County High School in 1990 and attended Ball State University. He was employed at IMC, Kitchel, Ind.
Survivors include his wife, Ann (Lucas) Haas; his parents, John H. and Jeanette (Ponder) Haas of Bath, Ind.; father- and mother-in-law, Dale and Regina Lucas of Paulding, Ohio; maternal grandparents, James and Marion Ponder of Bath, Ind.; a sister, Jill (Ronald) Webb of Cincinnati; and a nephew, Jacob Webb of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Esther Haas.
Funeral Mass was Monday, July 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oxford, followed by burial in Holy Guardian Angel Cemetery, Cedar Grove, Ind. Showalter-Blackwell Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner, Ohio, was in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth W. Hines
Kenneth W. Hines, 70, of New Lebanon, died Saturday afternoon, July 17, at Hospice of Dayton following a lengthy illness.
Born July 20, 1928, in Lee County, Va., he was the son of the late Harvey Michael and Mary Golden (Bonham) Hines. Mr. Hines served with the U.S. Army from 1946-1948, and retired in 1986 from General Motors after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Brethren Church of New Lebanon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Marion, Ray and Elmer Hines.
Survivors include his wife, Luedine (Simpson) Hines, whom he married Jan. 28, 1950; a daughter, Sandra Summers of New Lebanon; a son, Robert Hines of Beavercreek; grandchildren, Amy Novak, Robyn Laird, Kristy Summers, Brock Hines and Colleen Hines; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Ryan Novak; a brother, Lonas Hines of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister, Gay Johnson of Goodlettsville, Tenn.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with Pastor William Walk officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens.
Helen J. Redman
Helen J. Redman, 78, of Eaton, died Sunday, July 18, at Hospice of Dayton following an extended illness.
Born Feb. 4, 1921, in Pitsburg, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Simon E. and Sylvia J. (Hofacker) Miller. She had worked many places over the years, including the shirt factory in Eaton, the box factory in Camden, McCall Corp. in Dayton and in the cafeteria at Eaton City Schools.
Mrs. Redman was a member of Eaton Baptist Temple and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #8066 of Eaton.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Herbert Redman, in 1957, and Robert Redman, in 1981.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon L. and Corky Conner of Eaton, Amber M. and Robert Booher of O'Fallon, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. III and Ginger Redman of Eaton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd Miller of New Madison; and other relatives.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 20, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Robert W. Mong Sr.
Robert W. Mong Sr., 80, formerly of Eaton, died Sunday, July 18, at the Arbors of Dayton after an extended illness.
Born June 12, 1919, in Greenville, he was the son of the late Roy and Mary (Fitzgerald) Mong. He was a 1937 graduate of Greenville High School and attended Wayne State University in Detroit. He lived in the Eaton area for 35 years before moving to Dayton in the mid-1990s.
During World War II, Mr. Mong served as a master sergeant with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. He was a self-employed businessman, worked in home building, mortgage banking and real estate investment. He was appointed a Kentucky Colonel in 1963 by Kentucky Gov. Bert Combs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty A. (Dwyer) Mong, in 1993.
Survivors include a son, Robert W. Mong Jr. of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Catherine Mong of Dayton; three grandchildren, Molly Blackshear of Dayton, Eric and Elizabeth Mong of Dallas, Texas; and a brother, John Mong of Dayton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St., with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
