Henry L. Strothman
Henry L. Strothman, 83, of East Somers Street, Eaton, died unexpectedly Friday, March 3, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born June 13, 1916, in College Corner, Ohio, he was the son of Henry C. and Hester (Grove) Strothman. He was a 1934 graduate of Dixon High School, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he had been a farmer in Preble, Miami, Union and Wayne counties, and a sales representative for Federal Crop Insurance.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Aukerman and Helen White.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Barbara and Darrell Shepard of Columbus, and Nelda Blackford of Troy; sisters, Ruth Doty of Eaton and Violet Hammel of Lewisburg; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Jane Poos of Eaton.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Floyd E. Lee
Floyd E. Lee, 86, of New Paris, died Sunday, March 5, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Eaton.
Born July 30, 1913, in Preble County, he was the son of the late Jason and Rosa (Hart) Lee, and had lived in the county most of his life. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Lee was a member of Price's Creek Church of the Brethren, West Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florine (Shaeffer) Lee, in 1961; and his second wife, Margaret M. (Reedy) Lee on Jan. 24 1989; a son, Billy Joe Lee; a grandson, Dennis Hoke; and a brother, John H. Lee.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley A. and Frank Hoke of Eldorado; four grandchildren, Keith Hoke, Scott Lee, Robin Harrison and Eric Lee; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Byers of Greenville; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton, with Pastor Dean Garrett and Pastor John E. Glasscock officiating. Burial will be in Wares Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester.

Ross W. Stoner
Ross W. Stoner, 89, of Brookville, died Sunday morning, March 5, at Harborside Nursing Care Center in New Lebanon following a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 27, 1910, in Perry Township, Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Ward and Minnie (Hay) Stoner. He was a retired Perry Township farmer.
Mr. Stoner was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church, Brookville; Brookville Masonic Lodge #596, F&AM; Scottish Rite-Valley of Dayton; Antioch Shrine and High Twelve of Dayton; and a member of the National Camping and Travelers Association.
Survivors include his wife, LeEtta (Wright) Stoner; daughters, Dorothy Shock of Brookville and Linda Bowman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at Antioch United Methodist Church, 10301 Wolf Creek Pike, Brookville, with Pastor Ben Lyttle officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35 (between West Alexandria and Eaton), West Alexandria, and at the church one hour prior to services on Thursday. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Brookville.
Sherry J. Davis
Sherry J. Davis, 43, of Eaton, died Sunday, March 5, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born May 31, 1956, in West Alexandria, she was the daughter of Allmon and Nellie (Lutz) Bradley. She worked as a donut maker at Marsh Supermarket in Eaton.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1994 and her father in 1996.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Davis Jr. of Eaton; sons, Jacob, Timothy, Matthew and Daniel Davis, all at home; brothers and sisters, Allmon "Bud" Bradley Jr., William Bradley and Don Bradley, all of Eaton, Marilyn Wigger of Union, Sandy Logan of Magnolia, Texas, Russell Bradley of Gratis and Kathy Sandlin of Fairborn; and a special aunt, Betty King of Dayton.
Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, March 8, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35 (between West Alexandria and Eaton), West Alexandria, with Pastor Ron Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Donald E. Fosdick
Donald E. Fosdick, 74, of New Paris, died Thursday, March 9, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after an extended illness.
Born Oct. 15, 1925, in West Alexandria, he was the son of Richard P. and Hattie E. (Parrish) Fosdick. He was a graduate of Richmond High School, and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He had lived in the New Paris area since 1948, and retired in 1988 from Alcoa of Richmond after 39 years of service.
Mr. Fosdick was a member of the Preble County Sheriff's Department Special Deputies for over 20 years, the New Paris Fire Department for 10 years, a Jefferson Township zoning inspector, a Boy Scout leader, 4-H advisor, 25-Year Club of Alcoa, American Legion Post and First Presbyterian Church, all of New Paris.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Fosdick and James Fosdick; and a sister, Hazel Mather.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Made L. (Wright) Fosdick; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. and Victoria Fosdick of New Paris; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara L. and James Mann of Wilmington, N.C., Elizabeth A. and Dale Toschlog of New Paris, Susan E. and David Steele of Eaton.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Christina and Doug Roemer, Angela Collins, Melisa and James Ralston, Michelle Smith, Jennifer Bayt, Julie Steele, Jennifer Steele, Shawn Toschlog and Stephanie Toschlog; great-grandchildren, Dustin Roemer, Dallas Roemer, Joshua Collins, Troy Collins, Marina Ralston, Reed Ralston and Kristopher Smith; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were Monday, March 13, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Max Knight officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris, with full graveside military services by the Preble County Honor Guard.

Aileen M. Crowell
Aileen May Crowell, 82, of East Mill Street, Eldorado, died Monday, March 6, at her home.
Born April 22, 1917, she was the daughter of Ira and Ruby Ruth (McNutt) Duvall. She was a homemaker, a life member of the Dayton Fancy Feathers Club, and a member of the Eldorado United Methodist Church. She raised rabbits and chickens for many years, and enjoyed needlework.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Justine K. Duvall; and her husband, Gerald Lloyd Crowell, in 1988.
Survivors include twin sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Nancy Crowell of New Paris, and Marion and Hope Crowell of Morning Sun; grandchildren, Stephen Crowell, Joel Crowell, Dawn Sims, Kelly Crowell and Dustin Crowell; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jane Parks of Eaton; two stepsisters; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, March 10, at Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home-Eldorado Chapel, with Pastor Barbara Dungan officiating. Burial was in Monroe Cemetery, Eldorado.
Helen L. Flory
Helen L. Flory, 92, formerly of Eaton and currently of Friendship Village in Dayton, died Tuesday afternoon, March 7, at Friendship Village.
Born Sept. 10, 1907, in Eaton, she was the daughter of Luther J. and Ida J. (Malott) Coffman. She was a 1925 graduate of Eaton High School and attended Richmond Business College. She was a former member of Omicron Sigma Sorority, Eaton Country Club and St. Paul United Methodist Church in Eaton.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel J. Fulks, in 1962; her second husband, Lawrence R. Flory, in 1979; four brothers, Joseph Coffman, Robert Coffman, Paul Coffman and James Coffman; and a sister, Mildred Clark.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Richard Lee of Dayton; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas C. and Barbra Fulks of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Dorotha Coffman of Friendship Village, Dayton; six grandchildren, Susan L. Focht, Jane E. and Timothy Risner, Timothy R. and Julie Lee, Col. Thomas A. and Chang Soon Lee, David C. and Jody Fulks, Thomas and Debbie Fulks; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 11, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Ronald Julian officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Christine A. Klopfenstein
Christine Ann Klopfenstein, 32, of New Paris, died Tuesday, March 7, at Cedar Springs Care Center near New Paris.
She was born June 15, 1967, in Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her father, Keith D. Klopfenstein, in 1999.
Survivors include her mother, Judith Marie (Martin) Klopfenstein of Beavercreek; paternal grandmother, Margaret Alice Klopfenstein of West Unity; sisters and brother-in-law, Roberta M. Wisecup of Spring Valley, Tracy Lynn and Tom Fulk of Union; a niece, Catherine Wisecup; and a nephew, Nicholas Wisecup.
Memorial Mass was Thursday, March 16, at the Church of the Ascension, Kettering, with Father Mark Meyer officiating. Inurnment was in Calvary Cemetery, Dayton. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph S. Via
Joseph S. "Joe" Via, 86, of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, March 8, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Dec. 9, 1913, in Harrison Township, Preble County, he was the son of the late Ulysses S. and Lottie G. (Iler) Via. He was a retired farmer, a member of the First United Church of Christ in Lewisburg and the Preble County Farm Bureau.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul F. Via; and sisters, Florence Wysong, Lulu Brown and Irene Keckler.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Esther (Sensenbaugh) Via; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Janet Via of Lewisburg; two grandsons, Greg and Angie Via, Galen and Shanna Via; and great-grandchildren, Shelbi and Brandon Via.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 11, at the First United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Michael McDonald officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Betty J. Curry
Betty J. Curry, 71, of Eaton, died Wednesday, March 8, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born Nov. 18, 1928, in Richmond, Ind., she had attended the Richmond schools. She retired in 1990 from Baxter Healthcare Corp. in Eaton, and was former co-owner and operator of the Parkview Drive-In in Eaton and the Toot Drive-In in New Lebanon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hank Curry, in 1988.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Kip Curry of Mildenhall, England, Roger D. and Barbara Curry of Eaton; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services were Saturday, March 11, in Earlham Cemetery, Richmond, Ind., with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn C. Pierce
Evelyn C. Pierce, 82, of McGuire Drive, Camden, died Thursday, March 9, at her home.
Born July 28, 1917, in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of David and Opal (Wogaman) Miller. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Camden.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, James Franklin Pierce; three daughters, Judy (Dale) Fahrenholz of West Alexandria, Carolyn (Wayne) Keener of Eaton and Debra (James) Gibson of Preble County; a son, Clyde Richard Miller of Dayton; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harold Miller of New Carlisle.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Miller; a sister, Marie Conners; and a great-grandson.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 11, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Elther Hale officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.
Jesse B. Estes Sr.
Jesse Brunner Estes Sr., 67, of Lewisburg, died Saturday, March 11, at his home after an extended illness.
Born June 9, 1932, in Monroe County, Tenn., he was the son of the late Jesse and Alma (Skinner) Estes. He served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He retired in 1985 after 30 years of service as a senior service installer for Dayton Power & Light Co., was employed by the J.B. Hunt Company from 1990 through 1997, and was former owner and operator of Estes Electric.
Mr. Estes was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Lewisburg; a volunteer for the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church; Camp Miami & Circuit Rider of UMC, West Ohio; and a volunteer at St. Joseph's Children Treatment Center in Dayton.
He was preceded in death by two infant brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Jessie Ann (Wiseman) Estes; sons and daughter-in-law, Major Geoffrey Estes of Dayton, Jesse Brunner Jr. and Ruth Estes of Brookville; daughters and son-in-law, Stephanie Estes of Germantown, Janice Bonnie and David Harris of Miamisburg.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Jill Summerville, Nathan Estes, Christopher Harris, Amanda Estes, Elizabeth Harris, Rachel Harris and Kassidy Estes; sisters, Beulah Smith of Maryville, Tenn., Hula Easter of Erie, Tenn., Nell Meyers of New Carlisle, Bonnie Estes of Loudon, Tenn., Cleva Brown of Kingsport, Tenn., and Vivian Mims of Philadelphia, Tenn.

Charles A. Sorrell Sr.
Charles A. Sorrell Sr., 95, formerly of Eaton, died Friday, March 10, at Trinity Community in Beavercreek.
Born Nov. 7, 1904, in Hamilton, he was the son of the late Harvey and Marietta (Morris) Sorrell. He was a retired machinist from Hoovens Manufacturing, and was a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene P. (Binder) Sorrell, on Oct. 22, 1995; and a grandson, Michael Sorrell.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Charles A. Jr. and Alta Sorrell of Dayton, James H. and Mary Jane Sorrell of Middletown, N.Y., Ray T. and Connie Sorrell of Richmond, Va.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Tuesday, March 14, at Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria, with the Rev. James Wm. Whitley officiating. There was no public calling. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, was in charge of arrangements.

James McCarty Lambert, 93, of Pleasant Valley Road, Somerville, died Sunday, March 12, at Oxford View Nursing Home in Oxford.
Born July 28, 1906, in Middletown, he was the son of James Sr. and Anna (Keller) Lambert. He had worked for Maxwell Paper Mill, and was a member of the Greenbush United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, in 1986; and a sister, Juanita Hackman.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Marilyn Lambert of Eaton; two grandchildren; a sister, Martha Bethune of Philadelphia, Pa.; a brother, Ulysses "Brub" Lambert of Middletown.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Gratis, with the Rev. Gary Wood officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis.

Paul E. Hays
Paul Edward Hays, 24, of West Alexandria, died unexpectedly at his home near West Alexandria.
He was a former resident of Brookville, a 1994 graduate of Brookville High School, and was employed by GM Truck and Bus in Moraine.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edith and Edward Gallihar, and Pauline Baker.
Survivors include his parents, James and Danica Hays of Brookville; a sister, Vanessa of Brookville; and grandparents, Paul and Julie Hays.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Gilbert-Fellers Funeral Home, Brookville, with the Rev. Al Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Brookville.
