Lura M. Cripe
Lura Mae Cripe, 94, of Eaton, died Tuesday morning, April 4, at her home.
Born June 4, 1905, in Quinter, Kan., she had lived in Eaton for the past 57 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ora, in 1993; and daughter, Beulah Petry, in 1997.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey and Dolores Cripe of West Milton, Paul and Louise Cripe of Springfield, Ora J. and Juanita Cripe of Camden; daughters and sons-in-law, Leanna and Donovan Riley of Eaton, Miriam and Cliff Sharritt of Brookville; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial will be at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at press time, and the family asks persons to call the funeral home for times of viewing and services.
Kristopher Myers
Kristopher Myers, 20, of Eaton, formerly of Hamilton, died early Thursday morning, March 23, as the result of a car accident.
Born Aug. 29, 1979, in Hamilton, he attended the Fairfield schools and had been an avid baseball player at North End when he was younger. He was employed as a roofer for Tri-County Roofing.
Survivors include his son, Austin Myers of Fairfield; his mother, Penny (Jones) Fields and her husband, Ira "Fuzzy" Fields of Eaton and formerly of Hamilton; his father, Keith Myers and wife, Sherry of Hamilton; one brother, Kory Myers of Eaton and formerly of Hamilton; two sisters, Kateland and Sabrina Fields, both of Eaton and formerly of Hamilton.
Also surviving are two stepbrothers, Travis and Derek Steele; grandparents, Ralph Jones and the late Dovie Jones, Madeline Fields, Sam and Louise Myers; great-grandparents, Earl and Janet Jones; aunt, Peggy Breedlove and fiancee, Tim Weidner; uncles, Greg (Sheree Lynn) Myers and Dave (Katie) Myers; cousins, Rodney, Ryan and Rusty Breedlove; numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gary L. Daugherty
Gary Lee Daugherty, 19, of West Alexandria, died Wednesday, April 5.
He was a 1999 graduate of Twin Valley South High School, and was employed by Green Tokai in Brookville.
Survivors include his parents, Gary W. and Pamela S. (King) Daugherty of West Alexandria; two brothers, Eric and Matthew; a sister, Ashlee; paternal grandmother, Wanda Daugherty of Huber Heights; maternal grandparents, JB and Virginia King of New Lebanon.
Also surviving are aunts and uncles, Dan and Sheri (King) Neaves of New Lebanon, Tim and Robin (King) Davenport, Dale and Beverly Daugherty, all of Brookville, Steve Daugherty of Dayton, Floyd Daugherty and Darryl Daugherty, both of Huber Heights; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Hershel Daugherty.
Funeral services were Monday, April 10, at Grace Baptist Church, Dayton, with Pastor Doug Criswell officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Rogers Funeral Home, New Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.

Richard L. Denius
Richard Leroy Denius, 66, of New Lebanon, died Friday, March 24, at his home.
He graduated from Lanier High School in 1951, and worked at General Motors in Moraine for 48 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Evelyn (Priser) Denius; and sister, Helen Jean Miller.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Bette (Ellison) Denius; sons and spouses, Jeffrey and Melissa of Michigan, Ted and Beverly of Lewisburg, Phillip and friend Jeanette Rodeffer of New Lebanon; a daughter, Angela and spouse Barry Willis of Dayton; mother-in-law, Gladys Ellison; four grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Richard and Summer; two sisters and their spouses, Nancy and Wally Ensbrenner of Erie, Pa., Barbara and Carl Homgren of Batavia, Ill.; special friend, Joan Faber of Eaton; and other relatives.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 29, at Rogers Funeral Home, New Lebanon, with the Rev. William Walk and the Rev. Robert Caplinger officiating. Burial was in Trissel Cemetery.

Linda K. King
Linda Kay King, 55, of Lewisburg, died Tuesday, April 4, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
She was born April 13, 1944, in Fleming, Ky. She had worked at T.R.W. Lucas Ledex, where she was a team leader.
She was preceded in, death by her husband, Jack E. King, in 1988; and a daughter, Diane Kay King, in 1990.
Survivors include a son, Jack Adrian King of Xenia; parents, James D. and Cora (Bentley) Mullins of Dayton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret A. and David Schenck of Arcanum, Karen E. Mullins of Dayton, Donna J. and Gary Dursch of Farmersville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jesse J. and Debbie Mullins of Germantown, David W. and Debora Mullins of Englewood; three grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 8, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, followed by burial in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.

John H. Shoemaker
John H. "Hank" Shoemaker, 64, of Eaton (Lakengren), died Tuesday, April 4, at University Hospital in Cincinnati.
Born March 16, 1936, in Harlan, Ky., he was the son of the late Bill and Ethel (Gibson) Shoemaker. He retired in 1994 as a service representative for Plastics Machinery Technology, Inc. and had also worked for NATCO, both in Richmond, Ind. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Auburn, Ohio.
Mr. Shoemaker was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Carol S. (Adams) Shoemaker; sons, Brian Shoemaker and Kelly Shoemaker, both of Dayton; a daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Bill Smith of Richmond, Ind.; sisters, Zella of Millville, Ohio, Ruth, Faye and Shannon, all of Kentucky.
Also surviving are brothers, Charles of Millville, Ohio, Herbert, Jim, Bentley and Elmer, all of Kentucky; grandchildren, Guiseppe Shoemaker, Michelle Hammond, Jeremy Hammond, J.J. Hammond and Joshua Smith; great-granddaughter, Britlyn Hammond; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 8, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Dr. Rick Rhodus officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ora A. Cripe, on Oct. 1, 1993; and daughter, Beulah Mae Petree, in 1997; grandson, John Edward Cripe; sisters, Martha Jamison, Marie Steinbring and Edna Denlinger; and brothers, Ben, Charlie and Ezra Jamison.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey W. and Dolores Cripe of West Milton, Perry Paul and Louise Cripe of Springfield, Ora Jr. and Juanita Cripe of Camden; daughters and sons-in-law, Leanna and Donovan Riley of Eaton, Miriam and Cliff Sharritt of Brookville; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Anna Jamison of Quinter, Kan., Merle and Ethel Jamison of LaPell, Ind., Houston and Rosalee Jamison of Quinter, Kan.; son-in-law, Robert Petree of St. Mary's Idaho; and caregiver, Rhonda Johnson of Eaton.
Funeral services were Friday, April 7, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Greg Hyre officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

James E. Hager
James E. Hager, 83, of Eaton (Lakengren), formerly of New Paris, died Thursday morning, April 6, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born Dec. 22, 1916, in Menifee County, Ky., he was the son of the late Benjamin and Nannie (Jones) Hager. He came to Preble County in 1947, moved to New Paris in 1984 and then to Lakengren in June 1999.
He retired from General Motors-Harrison Radiator on May 28, 1976, after 27 years; and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of American Legion Post #215 of Eaton.
Survivors include his wife, Opal D. (Elam) Hager, whom he married July 16, 1937; son and daughter-in-law, Beryl and Elizabeth Hager of Eaton; grandsons, Michael Hager of Eaton and Kevin Hager of New Paris; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Allison, Britney, Lindsay, Kayla and Kelsey; brothers, Wesley Hager of Farmersville and Winford Hager of Xenia; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, April 10, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial, with military graveside services by the Preble County Honor Guard, was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Karen M. Dearth
Karen Marie Dearth, 33, of Muncie, Ind., died unexpectedly Thursday, March 30.
Born May 13, 1966, in Brookville, she had spent most of her life in Lewisburg. She was a 1984 graduate and honor student of Tri-County North High School, where she was active in and an All-Star in all school sports. She had also been a member of the Patches girls' softball team at Phillipsburg.
She attended Capital University in Columbus and Bluffton College in Bluffton, Ohio, where she was involved in basketball and softball. She was employed at Bartlett Corp. in Muncie, and played on the company's women's softball team.
Survivors include her mother, Juanita Dearth of Eaton; a sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Johnathon Salisbury of Newburgh, Ind.; and special friends, Peggy Perrine of Eaton and Susan Mills of Brookville.
Graveside services were Thursday, April 6, at Watkins' Cemetery, Natural Bridge, Ky., with Peggy Perrine giving the eulogy and Deborah Salisbury the prayer. Herald and Stewart Funeral Home, Mt. Sterling, Ky., was in charge of arrangements.

James C. Eck
James C. "Jim" Eck, 74, of New Lebanon, died Tuesday, April 4.
Born Aug. 7, 1925, in Dayton, he was the son of the late John and Opal (Stoner) Eck. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a 1950 graduate of Ashland College. Mr. Eck was former owner of Carter Oil Company, a founding member of the New Lebanon Lions Club and a member of AL #762. He was a 67-year member of the Brethren Church, New Lebanon, where he served as treasurer for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Wanda; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Evelyn of Edgewood, Ky., Jeff and Melanie of New Lebanon, Joel and Robyn of Eaton; six grandchildren, Kelly and husband Matt Windham, Stacy and husband Zach Pickens, Jimmy, Jennifer, Emily and Molly Eck; two great-grandchildren, Catlin and Cody Windham; a brother-in-law, Bruce Carter and wife Laura of Bradenton, Fla.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 8, at the Brethren Church, New Lebanon, with Pastor William Walk officiating. Burial was in Trissel Cemetery. Rogers Funeral Home, New Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.

Charles M. Hiatt Jr.
Charles M. Hiatt Jr., 78, of Eaton, died Saturday, April 8, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Born Sept. 25, 1921, in Richmond, Ind., he was the son of the late Charles M. and Irene (Bettenbroke) Hiatt, and had lived in Preble County most of his life. He was a graduate of Earlham College, Richmond, Ind., and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired after 36 years as a pharmaceutical salesman with Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company.
Mr. Hiatt was a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ; Bolivar Lodge #82, F&AM; Eaton Chapter #22 Royal Arch Masons; Preble Council #135 Royal & Select Masons; Scottish Rite, Valley of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Wiggans.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice B. "Billie" (Gounah) Hiatt, whom he married June 16, 1946; a son, William Thomas Hiatt of Eaton; a daughter, Sharon L. Wenning of St. Paul, Minn.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Schultz and Margaret Lee, both of Richmond, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 11, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. James W. Whitley officiating. Burial, with military graveside services by the Preble County Honor Guard, was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Masonic services were conducted at the funeral home following visitation on Monday.

Kathryn I. Michael
Kathryn I. Michael, 80, of West Manchester, died Saturday, April 8, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born July 8, 1919, in West Manchester, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Laura (Geeting) Laird. She was a graduate of Monroe High School, and a member of the West Manchester United Church of Christ. She and her husband were former owners of Michael Funeral Home in West Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon L. Michael, on Aug. 2, 1978; a sister, Charlotte Heeter; brothers, Everett, Glenn, Roy "Dick" and Herbert Laird.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl K. Jeffries of West Manchester; a son, the Rev. Ned A. Michael of West Liberty; three grandchildren, Teresa K. Jeffries, Shane A. Michael and Cameron L. Michael; sisters, Eva and Mildred Laird of West Manchester.
Graveside services were Monday, April 10, at Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg, with the Rev. David A. Ireton officiating. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Michael Chapel, West Manchester was in charge of arrangements.

Irene C. Flora
Irene C. Flora, 72, of Eaton, died Saturday, April 8, at her home.
Born Dec. 19, 1927, in Rice Lake, Wis., she was the daughter of the late Alexander James and Eva Bly (Fuller) Abbott. She retired in 1984 from Dayton Flexible Products in Eaton, and had worked as an LPN at Heartland of Eaton, Cedar Springs Care Center in New Paris and Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton. She was a member of the First Church of God in Eaton.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gordon A. Flora, in 1954; and a sister, Fern Beatrice Abbott, in 1972.
Survivors include her former husband, Gordon E. Flora of Camden; a son, Jonathan W. Flora of Studio City, Calif.; a daughter, Diana Lynn Vieux of Eaton; a brother, Hollis D. Abbott of Sacramento, Calif.; twin sister, Ilene C. Boardman of Sun City, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Charity Nicole and Summer Cherish Vieux, both of Eaton.
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Friday, April 14, at the First Church of God, 1360 E. Lexington Road, Eaton, with the Rev. Jerry Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends in the social room at the church following services. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Timothy A. Mohrmeyer
Timothy Allen Mohrmeyer, 42, formerly of New Paris, died in Tempe, Ariz.
Born June 14, 1957, in Richmond, Ind., he was the son of Charles Edwin and Janice Kay (Reckers) Mohrmeyer Sr. He was a 1975 graduate of National Trial High School, a U.S. Army veteran, had worked for Coca-Cola in Tempe, Ariz., and was doing home computing and mailing work.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Charles E. and Leona E. (Metzcar) Mohrmeyer Sr. of New Madison; his mother, Janice Harris of Richmond, Ind.; brothers, Charles E. Mohrmeyer Jr. of Lakeside, Calif., and Paul E. Mohrmeyer of Greenville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pam J. and Rick VanWinkle of New Paris, Janet K. Mohrmeyer, Sharon A. and Jeff Sizemore, all of Eaton.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 13, in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris, with the Rev. James Chronister officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Rev. Ivan L. LaVallee
The Rev. Ivan L. LaVallee, 68, of Lima, died Sunday, April 2, at his home.
Born Aug. 2, 1931, in Shirley, Ind., he was the son of Henry and Lula (Wisehart) LaVallee. He was a 1953 graduate of Minnesota Bible College, and had been a member and pastor of Rousculp Church of Christ in Cridersville for 31 years. He had also ministered at churches in Stilesville, Ind., Eaton and Belle Center. He was a bus driver for Perry, Bath and Allen East schools.
Survivors include his wife, Janet M. (Davisson) LaVallee, whom he married July 4, 1952; three sons, David H. (Patricia) LaVallee of Wapakoneta, Alan L. (Kelly) LaVallee of Lima and Timothy C. (Connie) LaVallee of Lebanon; two daughters, Jane Ann (Wynn) Reese of Harrod and Anita (Jonathon) Hughes of Dickinson, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley and Paul LaVallee.
Funeral services were Thursday, April 6, at Rousculp Church of Christ in Cridersville, with the Revs. Mark Vernick and Leland Quay officiating. Burial was in Ward Cemetery. Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Stowe
Mary Stowe, 73, of Englewood, formerly of Camden, died Monday, April 10, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Aug. 29, 1926, in Dixon Township, she was the daughter of Truby and Myrtle (Mendenhall) McFarland. She married Ray Stowe on July 22, 1948. She was employed as an operator at Plastico Products prior to her retirement.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Jo Barber; two brothers, John and Bud McFarland; and a sister, Francis Cross.
Survivors include three sons, David Bailey of Columbus, Rick (Debra) Stowe of Englewood and Arthur (Mary) Stowe of Camden; a brother, Robert McFarland; two sisters, Freda Lecklider and Helen Allen, both of Richmond, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, April 14, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. Darold Chaney officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.
