Herbert A. McKee
Herbert A. McKee, 81, of Ketterman Road, Eaton, died Monday, April 24, at Sycamore Medical Center in Miamisburg.
He was born in Norwood, Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James McKee Sr. He had worked as a security guard for Nutone Manufacturing.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Mabel McKee; two stepsons, Glen (Sheryl) Byrd of West Alexandria and Willie (Linda) Kelly of Irvine, Ky.; three stepdaughters, Judy Fultz of West Alexandria, Lisa (Alan) Reed of Lynx, Ohio, and Barbara Byrd of New Paris; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, James McKee of California.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. J. Herman Bassler officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.
Daniel G. Reid Jr.
Daniel G. Reid Jr., 78, of San Diego, Calif., died Saturday, April 8, at his home.
Born Feb. 1, 1922, in Richmond, Ind., he was the son of the late Daniel G. Sr. and Mary M. (Huffman) Reid. He was a 1939 graduate of Jackson High School in Preble County. Mr. Reid was a shoe salesman for Nordstrom Department Stores.
Survivors include a son, David Reid; a daughter, Diane Reid; and a sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and John Bowman of Plantation, Fla.
Graveside services were Friday, April 28, at Concord Cemetery (Dixon Township), near Eaton, with the Rev. Thomas H. Maxedon Jr. officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Ida A. Baker
Ida A. Baker, 87, formerly of Miller-Williams Road, Eaton, died Friday, April 28, at her home in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Born June 20, 1912, in Eaton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Fletcher and Hazel (Siler) Jeanes, and had lived in Preble County all her life until moving to Florida eight years ago. She was a secretary for the Preble County Landfill office, and was a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Stanley Baker, on April 23, 1991; a brother, Edmund Jeanes; and a sister, Evelyn Crauder.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis McNeely of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son Darrell Baker of Eaton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton, with the Rev. James William Whitley officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Betty A. McCargish
Betty A. McCargish, 62, of Lakengren, near Eaton, died unexpectedly Friday morning, April 28.
Born July 23, 1937, in Dayton, she was the daughter of Andrew and Mary A. (Good) Ostopak. She had worked at the Sears store in the Salem Mall for over 25 years, and was a member of Visitation Catholic Church in Eaton.
Survivors include her husband, James L. McCargish, whom she married Dec. 1, 1956; sons and daughters-in-law, James G. and Lora McCargish, Daniel L. and Lynne McCargish, all of Eaton; a daughter and son-ion-law, Amy L. and Kevin Bowser of Eaton; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jimmy and Katie McCargish, Mickey, Mason and Callie McCargish, Max, Alex, Kasey and Lewis Bowser; a brother, Joseph Ostopak of Chicago, Ill.; and a sister, Mary T. Ostopak of Eaton.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, May 2, at Visitation Catholic Church, Eaton, with Father J. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Alexandria. Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.
Irma S. Groves
Irma S. Groves, 84, formerly of North Maple Street, Eaton, died Wednesday, April 26, at Middletown Regional Hospital in Middletown.
Born June 3, 1915, in Camden, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Alberta (Johnson) Steel, and had lived most of her life in Preble County. She was a graduate of Camden High School. Mrs. Groves was a retired cashier from Miller's Super Market in Eaton, and was a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold S. Groves Sr., on March 17, 1996; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cox; a grandson, Michael Scott Cox; and two brothers, Samuel Steel and Vernon Steel.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harold S. Jr. and Judy Groves of Middletown; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman Steel of Somerville; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 29, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. James William Whitley officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Donald W. Anderson
Donald W. Anderson, 90, formerly of Eaton and Dayton, died Friday, April 28, in Bradenton, Fla., where he had resided since 1977.
Born Feb. 15, 1910, in Eaton, he was the son of the late Foster Lee and Mammie Arlene (Wagoner) Anderson. He was a 1929 graduate of Eaton High School, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a retired supervisor for the Foreign Intelligence Department at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Lee Anderson, in 1993.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth W. (Warrick) Anderson of Bradenton, Fla.
A memorial service will be held in Bradenton, Fla. Burial will be in Polk Grove Cemetery, Vandalia, at the convenience of the family. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Betty C. Harrison
Betty Cole Harrison, 64, of Eaton, died Saturday, April 29, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, after an extended illness.
Born April 21, 1936 in Waynesburg, Ky., she was the daughter of Dexter and Lena Hayes Cole.
She was a former employee of McCall's, later Dayton Press; Dayton Power and Light; administrative assistant affirmative action at Miami University in Oxford for 15 years; member of the First Baptist Church in Eaton.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Jayne Harrison in 1978; a brother, William D. Cole in 1991, and her father, Dexter Cole.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Lena and Charles Lipscomb of Eaton; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Michael Kraft of Trotwood; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Lori Harrison of Clovis, Calif.
Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Robert Watt of West Alexandria; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Ruby Lipscomb of Eaton; sister-in-law, Anna Cole of Sidney; granddaughter, Kara Harrison of Clovis, Calif.; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1320 N. Maple St., Eaton, with the Rev. Fred Hill officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery at Eaton.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Barnes Funeral Home, Eaton, is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Rogers
Ruth Elizabeth Rogers, 91, formerly of Eldorado, died Monday, May 1, at Greenbrier Nursing Center in Eaton after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 9, 1909 in Richmond, Ind., she was the daughter of Daniel and Anna (Baker) Jennings.
At age 8, she contracted polio, but did not let the crippling effects interfere with her life.
She was a graduate of Jolliett, Ill., High School, Jolliett Junior College, and Ball State University. She was an Elementary School Teacher, having taught from 1954 to 1975 at Verona, West Manchester, Monroe and Richmond, Ind., schools. She was a member and past president of the American Association of University Women; member of the Preble County Retired Teachers Association; American Association of Retired People; B.P.W. of Eaton; Preble County Historical Society; Unitarian Universalist Women's Federation; Phoenix, Arizona Baptist Hospital Auxiliary and life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Edwin Rogers; infant son Bruce Scott Rogers; brother Daniel B. Jennings and sister Helen Katte. Survivors include 4 sons: Ralph E. Rogers II, Henryville, Ind.; Donald L. (Ellen) Rogers, Glendale, AZ; Samuel L. (Glenda) Rogers, Niceville, Fla.,; Paul T. (Marie) Rogers, Eaton; daughter Sarah Ann "Sally" (Dennis "Buzz") Klinski, Clyde; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and sister-in-law, Beulah Jennings, Richmond, Ind.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home, Eldorado with Rev. Raymond A. Michel officiating. Interment will be in Hollansburg, Oh., cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, May 4, from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital.
Elma B. Route
Elma B. Route, 75, of Gettysburg Road, New Paris, died Monday, May 1, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born on Feb. 21, 1925 in Chenault, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Clyde Bennett and Hazel (Willett) Bennett Berry.
She was a 1943 graduate of Jefferson Twp. High School and a 1947 graduate of Reid Hospital School of Nursing. She retired in Dec. 1999 after over 25 years of service at Jackson Park Hospital in Chicago, Ill.
She was a member of American Association of Nursing and Illinois Nursing Association and had formerly lived in Homewood, Ill.
Survivors include son Rodney Riddle of Tinley Park, Ill.; sister Jean King of New Paris; brother Dudley Berry of Maryville, Tenn.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May, 4, at 10:30 a.m. (Ohio time) at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris. Interment will be held in Springlawn Cemetery in New Paris. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 3, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Walter E. Simon
Walter E. "Bud" Simon, 73, of Eaton, died Saturday, April 15, at his home after an extended illness.
Born June 22, 1926, in Shelby County, he was the son of the late Alfred and Alma (Swartz) Simon. He was a 1944 graduate of Versailles High School, and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Simon retired in 1988 after 40 years with Delco in Moraine. He was a member of American Legion Post #215 of Eaton, the 25-Year Club at Delco, a member of the Eaton Church of the Visitation and the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Byers, in 1981; and a brother, Ed Simon, in 1999.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, D. Joan (Perkins) Simon; three sons and daughters-in-law, John A. and Sue Simon of Bluffton, Ind., Tom J. and Andrea Simon of Bellefontaine, Jim W. and Cheri Simon of Brookville; a daughter, Janet K. Simon of Eaton; seven grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette Payne of Wilmington; and a brother, Wayne Simon of Piqua.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, April 18, at the Eaton Church of the Visitation, with the Rev. Thomas J. Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton, with full military graveside services provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Nadine Clear
Nadine Clear, 94, formerly of Eaton, died Thursday, April 27, at Bay View Gardens in Clearwater, Fla.
Born May 9, 1905, in Richmond, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mabel (Wise) Reid. She had served as matron of the Preble County Children's Home for a number of years. Mrs. Clear was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Harold Clear, in 1978.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Fulks of Columbia, S.C.; grandsons, David C. Fulks and Tom A. Fulks; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton, with the Rev. Thomas H. Maxedon Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Forrest E. Holman
Forrest E. Holman, 90, of Dayton, died Tuesday, May 2, at Riverside Nursing Home in Dayton.
Born Dec. 2, 1909, in Overpeck, Ohio, he was the son of the late Frank and Emma (Smith) Holman. He was a 1925 graduate of Farmersville High School. Mr. Holman retired in 1971 after 33 years of service with NCR in Dayton, was a member of the United Brethren Church in Dayton and Stillwater Lodge #616 in Kettering.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Holman and Ozra "Jack" Holman; and a sister, Thelma G. Rowe
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth I. (Lincoln) Holman of Dayton.
Funeral services, preceded by Masonic services, were Thursday, May 4, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with James Harvey officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Donald V. Baker
Donald V. Baker, 85, of Scheyhing Road, Lewisburg, died Thursday, May 4, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton after a short illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1914, in Perry Township (Montgomery County), he was the son of the late John and Pearlie M. (Priser) Baker. He was a retired Preble County farmer, a member of the Preble County Farm Bureau and the Eaton United Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and John Baker.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Alma L. (Landis) Baker; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Sara Baker of Eaton; daughters and son-in-law, Carol and Devon Marker of Lewisburg, and Karen Cameron of Dayton; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, May 8, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. Rodney Shelley officiating. Burial was in Pyrmont Cemetery, Brookville.

James P. Summers
James P. Summers, 29, of South Franklin Street, Eaton, died unexpectedly Friday, May 5.
He was born Oct. 27, 1970, in Dayton, and had attended Twin Valley South High School. He was a member of the Full Gospel Temple in Eaton, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn Summers; four sons, James D. Summers, Jacob Summers, Drake Summers and Derek Summers, all at home; two daughters, Amanda and Samantha Summers, at home; his parents, Ronald and Anita (Hamm) Summers of West Alexandria; two brothers, Brian Summers of West Alexandria and Jon Summers of Lewisburg.
Also surviving are five sisters, Cynthia Steinberger of Lewisburg, Melinda Black of Bradford, Angela Summers of Germantown, Amanda Brubaker and Jennifer Bell, both of West Alexandria; maternal grandmother, Helen Hamm of West Alexandria; father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Paula Dunlevy of Russells Point; and brother-in-law, Michael Ansley.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Rosa Belle Summers; and maternal grandfather, Paul E. Hamm.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 9, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Raymond Rothwell officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery near West Alexandria.
Stan Moore
Stan Moore, 67, of New Paris, died Sunday morning, May 7, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Dec. 16, 1932, in Hamilton, he was the son of the late Stanley Sr. and Ada (Heilman) Moore. He retired as a semi driver from Zumstein Trucking in 1997; and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra S. (Thompson) Moore, whom he married July 14, 1983; children, Ricky Lee Moore and wife Judy of San Jose, Calif., Leslie Gunn and husband Jim of Republic, Kan., Stanley Moore III of Bakersfield, Calif., Dawn Moore and fiance Cliff of Bakersfield, Calif., Tina McKinney of Richmond, Ind., Cris McKinney of Miamisburg, LeeAnna Jenkins of New Paris, Gary McKinney II of Richmond, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Woodrow Moore of Texas and Richard Moore; sisters, Betty Shiverdecker of Florida and Ivy of Michigan.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 9, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens.
