Alfred E. "Al" Combs, 57, of New Lebanon, died Friday, July 14.
He retired from GM, where he was a Hy-Lift operator.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Combs Sr.; stepfather, Luther Scott; mother, Allie Scott; brother, Stanley Combs Jr.; and infant son, Terry.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Carol Combs; one son, Tony Combs of New Lebanon; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jim Clevenger of Lewisburg; seven grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Troy and Phyllis Combs of Vandalia; two sisters, Edith Summers of Kettering and Lois Boehringer of Vandalia; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Rogers Funeral Home, New Lebanon, followed by burial in Trissel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday.
Etna C. Markland
Etna Catherine Markland, 83, of Sharpsburg, Ga., formerly of New Lebanon, died Sunday morning, July 16, in Georgia.
Born Jan. 3, 1917, in Mt. Sterling, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Homer and Zelia (Denton) Markland. She retired in 1973 from Delco Products in Dayton after 32 years, and was a member of the New Lebanon Assembly of God Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Lemuel, Lee, Ewell and James Markland; sisters, Erma Worley, Louellen Brown and Bessie Markland.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, including nephews Ewell W. Markland of Sharpsburg, Ga., and Richard L. Markland of Kettering; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, including Jason and Justin Markland.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with Pastor Christopher J. Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.
Sandra K. McDonald
Sandra K. McDonald, 50, of Eaton, died Monday, July 17, at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.
She was born May 25, 1950, in Middletown. She had been a counselor for the Guernsey County Mental Health Center in Cambridge, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Ann Soales.
Survivors include her father and mother, Richard M. and Barbara Jo McDonald of Middletown; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason N. and Johnene Adams of Eaton; grandchildren, Tasha Nichole Adams, Jonah Adams and Stormy Brook Adams; brothers, Richard A. McDonald of Richmond, Ind., Jeff S. McDonald of Italy, Chuck DeBolt of Texas; sisters, Patricia Lynn Lagle of Cambridge, Karita J. Pierson of Eaton and Toni Gayle Ulmer of Cincinnati; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 20, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Cynthia L. Johnson
Cynthia Lynn (Geeding) Johnson, 31, of Worthington, Ohio, died of cancer Monday, July 17, at her home.
She was a former teacher in the Westerville City Schools, and was very active in children's soccer programs and schools.
Survivors include her husband, David; children, Tyler, Kyle and Abigail; parents, Bob and Betty Geeding; brother, Mark Geeding; sister, Shelly Geeding; grandparents, Teresa Hill, and Bob and Mary Geeding; godparents, Bob and Rose Reichert; father- and mother-in-law, Ron and Betty Johnson.
Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, July 21, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Columbus, with Father Rodric DiPietro officiating. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery. Schoedinger Worthington Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Howard Berry
Howard Berry, 86, of Camden, died Saturday, July 22, at his home.
Born Nov. 4, 1913, in San Angelo, Texas, he was the son of the late George Elan and May (Bynum) Berry. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1942 until 1945. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a roofer at Valley Sheet Metal Company.
Survivors include his wife, Henrietta (Salyer) Berry, whom he married Aug. 19, 1960, in Parrish, Ky.; two sons, Steven Ray Berry and Wilton Lee Berry, both of Oklahoma; one brother, Lymon E. Berry of California; one sister, Bell Berry of California; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services were Monday, July 24, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, followed by burial in Butler County Memorial Park.
Preston Back
Preston Back, 85, of Eaton (Lakengren), formerly of Middletown and Deltona, Fla., died Sunday morning, July 23, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton.
Born Jan. 1, 1915, in Morgan County, Ky., he was the son of the late Winfield Scott and Emma Lou (Richardson) Back, and spent his childhood in Menifee County, Ky. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and had worked, along with his sons, as a self-employed carpenter.
Mr. Back was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Camden; and a former member of Grace Baptist Church of Middletown, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and member of the Building Committee. He was also a former member of Deltona Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and member of the Church School Board.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Back; sisters, Bethel Baker, Ida Craft, Addie Robinson, Imogene Whitt and Corda Wilson; and a son-in-law, John Wood Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Elizabeth (Avery) Back, whom he married Nov. 21, 1936; children and their spouses, Roberta and Earl O'Banion, Loretta and James Roberts, Bonnie (Wood) and Gary Weisenbarger, all of Eaton, Richard and Wanda Back of Camden, Harvey Scott and Linda Back of Camden, Sandra and Robert Williams of Trenton; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Back of Middletown; sisters, Ladeska Howard of Middletown and Florence Downing of Trenton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35 (between West Alexandria and Eaton), West Alexandria, with Pastors Greg Jackson and Dr. Howard Sears officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral Home.

Joanne L. Walsh
Joanne L. Walsh, 70, of Eaton, died Thursday, July 20, at her home.
Born July 14, 1930, in Dayton, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. and Berniece (Stumpf) Faulkner.
She was a 1948 graduate of Julienne High School in Dayton, and graduated in 1954 from the University of Dayton with a B.A. degree with honors. Mrs. Walsh was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau, an academic honor society, Visitation Catholic Church in Eaton, St. Ann's Sodality and Right to Life of Preble County.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Robert H. Walsh; sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher R. and Deborah K. Walsh, Paul G. and Linda A. Walsh, Matthew J. and Cindy H. Walsh, all of Columbus, Michael D. and Karan K. Walsh of Lebanon; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa A. and Jason A. Jones of Columbus; eight grandchildren, Catherine, Andrew, Bradley, Collin, Shannon, David, Margaret Walsh and Alex Jones.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, July 24, at Visitation Catholic Church, Eaton, with the Rev. J. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Norma A. Boomershine
Norma Adkins Boomershine, 76, of Lenoir City, Tenn., formerly of Farmersville, died Friday, July 21, in Knoxville, Tenn.
Mrs. Boomershine was a member of Community Baptist Church in Lenoir City and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Farmersville. She was retired from General Motors, Harrison Radiator Division in Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Chester Boomershine and Raymond Hester; her parents, Norman Lee and Leoda (Barker) Adkins; and a brother, Chester Lee Adkins.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Gary Lee and Linda Boomershine of Germantown, Diana and Tom Sanders of Eaton, Norma Jean and Cecil Sanders of Kingston, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Tom Vorhis and the Rev. Dustin Vorhis officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis.
Evelyn E. Brown
Evelyn Eunice Brown, 89, of Lewisburg, died Monday, July 24, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton.
She was retired from McCall's Manufacturing, and was a member of Verona United Methodist Church and the Ladies Missionary Society of the church.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 69 years, Glenn C. Brown; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald G. and Joan Brown of Charlotte, N.C., Francis L. and Doris Brown of Lewisburg; daughter and son-in-law, Connie M. and Dick Smith of Corpus Christi, Texas; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip A. and Jennie (Haddix) Hoffman; sisters, Daisy May Hoffman, Orpha May Hoffman, Mary Helen Hunt and Treva Ruth Carmony; a brother, Gilbert E. Hoffman; and a half brother, Roy Haddix.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at Kindred Funeral Home, 400 Union Blvd., Englewood, with Pastor William Schilling officiating. Burial will be in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, at the funeral home.

Stanley A. Coffman
Stanley A. Coffman, 70, of Melbourne, Fla., died Monday, July 24, at his home.
He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, and moved to Brevard County, Fla., in 1973 from Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He was a retired Air Force chief master sergeant, and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, with 27 years of service. After retirement, he worked at Harris as an integrated logistics support manager.
Mr. Coffman was a member of the Harris Retirees Association, Canaveral Lapidary Club, Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club, and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Alice (Cummings) Coffman, formerly of Lanier Township in Preble County; a son, Stanley Coffman of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Susan Payne of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Sarah Lindsay of Cherokee Village, Ark., and Sandra Kreinbrink of Bryant, Texas; a brother, Keith Wolf of Lake Panasofkee, Fla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 27, at Brownlie and Maxwell Funeral Home, Melbourne, Fla., followed by burial in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

Donald W. Clark
Donald Wayne Clark, 30, of Camden, died Friday, July 28, near Camden.
He was born July 18, 1970, in Hamilton. He was employed by Xerox, and was a member of the band "DDT."
Survivors include his parents, Jack and Doris (Fields) Clark of Camden; brothers and sisters, James Dale (Dawn) Clark, Rebecca Sue (Edward) Black, all of Camden, Steven Lee Clark and Amanda June Clark, at home; two nephews, Joshua Dale and Ethan James Clark; three nieces, Amber Sue, Cassandra Ruth Black and Chiann Clark; and a special friend, Wendy Fryer.
Funeral services were Monday, July 31, at R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. Michael Gadd officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.
LaVerne Jordan
LaVerne Jordan, 97, formerly of Gratis, died Saturday, July 29, at Heartland of Eaton.
Born March 19, 1903, in South Lebanon, she was the daughter of Harry and Jenny (Bell) Reddick. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny Jordan, in 1985; two sons, James and William Jordan; a brother, Louis Reddick; and a sister, Elizabeth Stubbs.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Marjorie Jordan of Eaton, Richard and Paula Jordan of Middletown; two daughters, Vivian Hardy of Eaton and Josephine Taylor of Cambridge, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Delvenia Macy of Germantown.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Gratis, followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis.
Dr. H. Gene Christman
Dr. H. Gene "Chris" Christman, 68, of Eaton, died Sunday, July 30, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born May 26, 1932, in Mansfield, he was the son of the late Hugh G. and Loree (Marshall) Christman. He was a 1950 graduate of Eaton High School and a member of the 1948 state basketball championship team and the 1950 state runners-up team.
He graduated from Miami University with a B.S. degree and earned his master's and doctorate degrees from Penn State University. He was a professor in the College of Education at the University of Akron for 20 years, retiring in 1990 as professor emeritus. He had taught in the Eaton and Dayton school systems, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He had also resided in Wadsworth, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Jefferson) Christman, whom he married Dec. 25, 1953; a son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Kathryn Christman of Alpharetta, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberlee and Michael Kleshock of Cincinnati; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Amanda and Sara Christman; an aunt, Charlotte Lincoln; and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the funeral home.
