Hortense Rich
Hortense (Robbins) Rich, 74, of Camden, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 1996, at Mercy Hospital in Hamilton.
Born April 25, 1922, she was the daughter of Garrett and Mabel (Warren) Robbins. She was a 24-year member of the First Southern Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis Rich, whom she married Nov. 27, 1948; four daughters, Barbara Lotti of Michigan, Jean (Gene) Scott of Arden, N.C., Patricia J. Shiverdecker of Camden and Janet (David) Back of Middletown; four sons, Kirby E. (Deline) Rich of Oceanside, Calif., Ernest (Lu Ann) Rich of Fairfield, Donald Rich of Camden and Eugene (Teresa) Rich of Eaton.
Also surviving are 27 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers, Earl Robbins, Dewey Robbins and Junior Robbins; and four sisters, Lucy Roberts, Ruth McGinnis, Christine Sloane and Imogene Schaffer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Stanley and Buddy Rich; three brothers, Gerald, Clifford and Lonnie Robbins; and one sister, Norma Sykes.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the First Southern Baptist Church, Camden, with the Rev. Greg Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Hamilton. R.C. Nein and Sons Funeral Home, Camden, will be in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati at Mercy Hospital, Hamilton, or to the First Southern Baptist Church, Camden.
Mary K. Minor
Mary K. Minor, 86, of 328 W. Chicago St., Eaton, died Monday, Nov. 25, 1996, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Oct. 4, 1910, in Blaunville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late John and Sally (Smith) Hensley, and had lived in Preble County since 1960. She was a member of the First Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Robert K. Minor; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jack Miller of Eaton; a grandson, Jeff Wysong; a granddaughter, Angela Adkins; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Ida Brenner of Richmond, Ind.; a brother, Cecil Hensley of Trenton, Mich.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Charles Haney officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Herman S. Plunkett
Herman S. Plunkett, 90, of Eaton, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Dec. 1, 1905, in Roanoke County, Va., he was the son of John and Molly (Johns) Plunkett. He attended Manchester and Wittenberg colleges, and had lived in Eaton since 1949. He was founder and owner/operator of Plunkett Plumbing in Eaton. Mr. Plunkett was an active member of the Eaton Church of the Brethren and was a member of the Eaton Lions Club from 1953-1973. He and his wife spent the winter months in Florida.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Fern (Brubaker) Plunkett; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Barbara Plunkett of Eaton; a daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Rolf Theen of Lafayette, Ind.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Eaton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Craig H. Smith and the Rev. Martin Peacock officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Darrell L. Taylor
Darrell L. Taylor, 65, of 698 Lakengren Drive, Eaton, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 1996, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
He was born May 24, 1931, in Frankfort (Ross County), Ohio. He retired in 1993 after 22 years at Newco Frebco Co., Dayton, and was the Preble County plumbing inspector from 1995 to the present. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Plumber and Pipe Fitters Local #162 of Dayton, was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, a member of American Legion Post #215 of Eaton, VFW Post of Ada, and a member of the Eagles Lodge in Eaton.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Patricia S. "Pat" (Bowers) Taylor; his parents, Clarence and Evelyn Taylor of Eaton; three sons, Gordon L. Reynolds of Columbus Grove, Robert L. Reynolds of Elida and Michael Taylor of Eaton; two daughters, Claudia Bolinger of Carroll and Patti Sizemore of Beavercreek; one sister, Deloris Henson of Beavercreek; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dannie Taylor.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 2, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Raymond Rothwell officiating. Graveside services and burial were Monday afternoon at St. Matthews Lutheran Church Cemetery, Cridersville, Ohio. The Eagles Lodge, American Legion and VFW conducted memorial services Sunday evening, Dec. 1, at the funeral home.
Fern A. Ochs
Fern Alice Ochs, 89, formerly of Eaton and Oakwood, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 1996, at Wood Glen Nursing Center in Springboro.
Born June 21, 1907, in Preble County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Iva (Renner) Weaver. She was a graduate of Lewisburg-Union High School and attended Miami Jacobs College. She had worked at Frigidaire before going to work at City Loan in Dayton.
Her husband, Charles J. Ochs, died in 1970.
Survivors include one sister, Bernice Simmers of South Carolina; two nephews, Edwin J. Green of South Carolina and James L. Sims of Columbus; a niece, Kathleen Driesen of Kettering; two great-nephews, Scott and Mitchel Green; two great-great-nieces; one great-great-nephew; and cousins.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 30, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. James W. Whitley officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
John H. Fisher
John Hurley Fisher, 58, of West Alexandria, died Friday, Nov. 29, 1996, at his home.
Born Nov. 4, 1938, in Dayton, he was the son of Charles E "Pete" and Rella Elaine (Malott) Fisher. He was a 1956 graduate of Lanier High School, and retired in 1991 from Chapel Electric in Dayton. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of IBEW #82 Local Union of Dayton.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Sandy A. (Marks) Fisher; his mother, Rella Elaine Fisher of New Lebanon; his father- and mother-in-law, Joe Marks of Albany, Ky., and Chelsea Marks of Brookville; a son and daughter-in-law, John "John Boy" and Debbie A. Fisher of West Alexandria.
Also surviving are a brother, Mike Fisher of Centerville, Ohio; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty (Marks) Mattingly of Miamisburg, Glenna (Marks) and Pete Tucker of Eaton; a brother-in-law, Doug Marks of Lewisburg; nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Georgia Painter of Eaton, and special nephew and wife, Bill and Janette Schlotterbeck of West Alexandria.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 2, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Harold Ady officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.

Irene B. Valant
Irene B. Valant, 90, of U.S. 35 North, Richmond, Ind., died Friday morning, Nov. 29, 1996, at Pinehurst Nursing Home in Centerville, Ind., after an extended illness.
Born May 31, 1906, in West Hartlepool, England, she was the daughter of John and Isabelle Jenny. She had lived in the Richmond area since 1994 and had also lived in Tucson, Ariz. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Joseph B. Valant, died in 1964.
Survivors include three sons, Jay N. Valant of Richmond, Ind., Laurence B. Valant of Golden, Colo., and Edwin J. Valant of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family with burial in Webster Cemetery, Webster, Ind. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Jeanne S. Gardner
Jeanne Sedella Gardner, 41, of 304 Elmwood Drive, Eaton, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996, at her home after an extended illness.
Born Sept. 3, 1955, in Dayton, she had lived in Eaton all her life. She was a 1973 graduate of Eaton High School, and was a member of Evangel Assembly of God.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne R. Gardner; her mother, Vicie Lee (Fluty) Albert of Eaton; a son, Jonathan R. Gardner, at home; two daughters, Bethany S. Gardner and Rachel E. Gardner, both at home; one sister, Virginia L. Wenning of Eaton; nieces and nephews.
Her father, Byron R. Albert, died Oct. 6, 1991.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Evangel Assembly of God, 216 S. Cherry St., Eaton, with the Rev. Charles K. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Ruby G. McCarty
Ruby G. McCarty, 88, formerly of West Eaton Pike, New Paris, died Saturday evening, Nov. 30, 1996, at Greenbriar Nursing Center, where she had been a resident since September 1991.
Born Oct. 10, 1908, in Jackson Township (Preble County), she was the daughter of Jerry and Pearl (Cail) McCarty. She was a 1926 graduate of Jackson High School and a 1931 graduate of Reid Hospital School of Nursing. She had been the head nurse of Reid Memorial Hospital nursery and obstetrics for 42 years, retiring in 1973.
Survivors include nieces; nephews; great-nieces and -nephews; and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth E. McCarty, in 1992; and four brothers, Glenn, Earl, Kenneth and Howard McCarty.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, 109 W. Main St., New Paris, with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Burial will be in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.

Deborah N. Via
Deborah (Nein) Via, 40, of Somerville, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996, at Middletown Regional Hospital in Middletown.
Born Oct. 20, 1956, in Hamilton, she was the daughter of William and Betty (Humphrey) Nein. She graduated from Preble Shawnee High School in 1974 and Miami University in 1978. She was employed as manager of Star Bank (Breiel Boulevard) in Middletown. Mrs. Via was a member of Delta Zeta at Miami University.
Survivors include her husband, Rodney Via, whom she married Sept. 23, 1978; a daughter, Leslie Via, at home; a son, Clint Via, at home; her father and stepmother, William and Wilma Nein of Miamisburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Vickie and Michael Miller of West Alexandria; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Mary Nein of Woodland Park, Colo.
She is also survived by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and June Via of Lakengren; four brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph Jr. and Theresa Via, Greg and Rhonda Via, Brian and Jeanne Via, all of Camden, Andy and Tisha Via of Germantown; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Nein, on March 23, 1989; and a nephew, Nicky Via.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 3, at R.C. Nein and Sons Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. Warren McCready officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.

Walter A. Henne
Walter A. Henne, 84, formerly of Lewisburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996, at Canterbury Care Center in New Lebanon after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 27, 1911, in Eaton, he was the son of the late John and Hannah (Williams) Henne, and had lived in Preble County most of his life. He had worked at Dayton Tire & Rubber Co. in Dayton. He later became a jeweler and optician and was the owner and operator of Henne Jewelers in Lewisburg for 35 years. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewisburg.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Jewell R. (Cole) Henne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Robert Bash of Lewisburg, Joyce and David Stebbins of Farmersville; a stepson and his wife, Robert and Elke Melling of New Paris; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Sherry and Ron Sowder of Franklin, Brenda and Richard Stultz of New Lebanon.
Also surviving are six grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Ida Clark of Eaton; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Henne; a stepgrandson, Wesley Melling; one brother and one sister.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 7, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Raymond E. Rothwell officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.
