Helen F. Thompson
Helen F. Thompson, 71, formerly of U.S. 35 West, Eaton, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Sept. 28, 1925, in Batesville, Ind., she was the daughter of John and Letha (Wolf) Sizemore. She retired from Baxter Laboratories in Eaton in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thompson, in 1990; and a brother, Chester Sizemore.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Lois Thompson of West Alexandria, Arthur and Maxine Thompson of Richmond, Ind.; a daughter and son-in-law, H. Judy Thompson and Ken Bailey of Dayton; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, March 28, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Virgil R. Ross
Virgil R. Ross, 85, of West Third Street, Dayton, and formerly of Lewisburg, died Thursday, March 27, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born May 20, 1911, in Booneville, Ky., he was the son of Hampton and Fannie (Couch) Ross. He was the owner of the Midway Motel and Restaurant, J & R Motel and Restaurant in Lewisburg and Linda's Family Inn in Dayton. He was a member of the All Gospel Church of God in Trotwood, where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Wanda (Combs) Ross; daughters and son-in-law, Linda (Ross) and Russell Matheny of Lewisburg, Norma Jean of Florida and Erma of Middletown; a son, Don Ross of Middletown; a sister, Elizabeth Birch of Booneville, Ky.
Also surviving are grandchildren and spouse, Ricky and Melissa Banks of Lewisburg, James Banks of West Alexandria, Paul Doughman III and fianceeŽKissy Littleton of Trotwood; nine great-grandchildren; seven nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services were Monday, March 31, at the All Gospel Church of God, Trotwood, with Brother Ralph Stacy officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.

George E. Cline
George Edward Cline, 61, of Hamilton, and formerly of Camden, died unexpectedly at his home Thursday night, March 27, 1997, after a heart attack.
Born Feb. 25, 1936, near Camden, he was the son of George and Etta (Anderson) Cline. He was a 1954 graduate of Camden High School, where he was an honor student, president of his class, a star basketball player and a member of the high school band. He was also a member of the Camden United Methodist Church and its choir, and was a Boy Scout. He was an employee of the Hamilton Waterworks Supply Company in Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; a sister, Mildred Crawford of Camden; a stepdaughter and her husband, Cindy and Rex Dabblett of Springfield, Mo.; also a son-in-law and granddaughter, Mark and Dagney Olson of Eugene Ore.; two nieces, Marietta McClothin and Deb Baubel; a nephew, John Laudahn; and an aunt, Frances Andrew of Dayton.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Oleta Witter and Lois Fogt; a stepdaughter, Margie Olson; and a brother-in-law, James Crawford.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 1, at Colligan Funeral Home, Hamilton. Burial was in Hamilton.
Verna A. Guiler
Verna A. Guiler, 83, of Eaton, died Friday, March 28, 1997, at Heartland of Eaton after an extended illness.
Born April 9, 1913, in Rockingham County, Va., she was the daughter of George and Cora (Long) Rexrode, and had lived in Preble County most of her life. She was a member of the Eaton Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon A. Guiler, whom she married Jully 18, 1931; one son, Dean Guiler of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Carole Haack of Hesperia, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Jones of Harrisonburg, Va., and Jorga Crawford of Lewisville, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Keith Guiler; a daughter, Phyllis Carroll; five brothers, Earl, Frank, Oliver, Otho and Glen Rexrode; and two sisters, Elsie Cupp and Nona Wigger.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Greg A. Hyre officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Richard Cottrell
Richard Cottrell, 65, of Trotwood, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997.
He retired in 1990 after many years at Mead Corporation. At an early age, he became a member of Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, where he served as assistant finance secretary and steward.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Clara (Elkins) Cottrell; two sons, Steven and Mark A. Cottrell; a grandson, Mark A. Cottrell Jr.; a sister, Mary Cartwright; a daughter-in-law, Shari Cottrell; three brothers, John, Cleophus and Clifford Greenwood; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Cottrell Sr.; mother, Mary Greenwood; grandmother, Hattie Cottrell; and brother, Freddie Lee Greenwood.
Graveside services were Monday, March 31, at Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria, with Pastor B.L. Peterson officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.
Kathryn I. Holsapple
Kathryn I. Holsapple, 73, of 42 Birch St., Castine, died Friday, March 28, 1997, at her home after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 22, 1924, in Darke County, she was the daughter of the late George and Rebecca (Schaffer) Lipps, and had lived in Preble County most of her life. She was a retired factory worker from J.V. Products in Gordon, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Carl Longanecker; and her second husband, Fred Holsapple.
Survivors include three sons, Butch Longanecker of Centerville, Ind., Bill Longanecker of New Paris and Richard Longanecker of Hillsdale, Wis.; four daughters, Pat Cook and Carole Ebersole, both of Eldorado, June Hines of Eaton and Emma Batdorf of Louisville, Ky..
Also surviving are 31 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred Lipps of Wayne Lakes, Ohio; four sisters, Marcella Henn of West Sonora, Betty Reyna of Greenville, Gladys Saylor and Ida Saylor, both of Palestine, Ohio; nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Linda Darlene Johnson; and three brothers, Ted Lipps, Wilson Lipps and Lester Lipps, are also deceased.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Roadway Community Church, U.S. 40, Gettysburg (near National Trail High School), with the Rev. Bill Longanecker and the Rev. Richard Longanecker officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from noon-2 p.m. prior to services on Wednesday. Burial will be in Ithaca Cemetery. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, is in charge of arrangements.
Davy L. Palmer
Davy L. Palmer, 66, of West Alexandria, died Friday, March 28, 1997, at the home of his daughter in Hillsdale, Mich.
Born Sept. 21, 1930, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of the late Perry Mathew and Ethel Jane Palmer. He had lived in Preble County since 1977. Mr. Palmer was a retired sheet metal worker and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers, Springfield, Ill., Local #117; and Sheet Metal Workers, Dayton Local.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. (Shearer) Palmer, on Jan. 25; a brother, Jack Palmer; and two grandsons.
Survivors include four daughters, Davie Lee Cloyds of Hillsdale, Mich., Linda Gill and Patricia Bacon, both of Westland, Mich., and April Lolley of Detroit, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Olen Palmer of Lady Lake, Fla.; nine nephews and five nieces.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 1, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, following by burial in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Harold E. Early
Harold Eugene Early, 67, of 224 Baltimore St., Middletown, died Friday, March 28, 1997, at Sycamore Medical Center in Miamisburg.
Born April 26, 1929, in Preble County, he was the son of Ralph and Irene (Roberts) Early. He was an engineer for the Dupps Company in Germantown. Mr. Early was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church, and was past president of the Germantown Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Lillie D. (Wilson) Early; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila Jo and Randy Scott McFarland of Middletown; sons and daughter-in-law, Larry Eugene and Jill Early of Port William, Ohio, and Jerry Lane Early of Middletown.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Sherry Jo Henderson, Shannon Douglas Rupp, Sarah Marie Savoir and Brandon Lee Early; three great-grandchildren, Mercy Savoir, Alicia Savoir and Cameron Jay Henderson; two sisters, Helen L. McCoy and Donna May Bellar, both of West Alexandria; and a brother, Curtis Early of West Alexandria.
Memorial services were Tuesday, April 1, at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, Middletown, with the Rev. Randy Wallace officiating.

Kenneth A. Richards
Kenneth A. Richards, 82, formerly of Lewisburg, died Sunday, March 30, 1997, at the Brethren's Home in Greenville.
Born July 18, 1914, in Eldorado, he was the son of Earl and Ethel (Burrows) Richards. He was a 1933 graduate of Monroe Central High School. He retired in 1977 after 33 years at Wayne Works in Richmond, Ind., and was a former member of the IOOF.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Dolores J. and George Pigg of Gordon, Ohio, and Rhonda L. Rawlins of West Alexandria; sons and daughter-in-law, Darryl J. and Joanne Richards of West Alexandria and Dennis R. Richards of Greenville.
Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Mary Richards of Eldorado, Jeanette Richards of Covington, Ohio, Aileen Browne of Hollansburg, Burnette Spurgeon of Richmond, Ind., Mildred Atkins of Tennessee and Marion Skiles of Eaton; nine grandchildren; and 10-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Timothy Means officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the chapel.

Opal E. Taylor
Opal E. Taylor, 90, of Lewisburg, died Monday, March 30, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 8, 1906, in Crescent City, Ill., she was the daughter of Hiram and Margaret C. (Lowery) Crouch. She had lived in Lewisburg prior to becoming a resident at Canterbury Care Center in New Lebanon.
Survivors include one son, Richard L. Taylor of New Albany, Ind.; one daughter, Judith Broyles of LaFollette, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; and two sons, Robert and Donald Taylor.
Graveside services were Thursday, April 3, at Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
