Dixie D. Hawley
Dixie Darlene Hawley, 58, of West Alexandria, died Thursday, April 24, 1997, at Hospice of Dayton following an extended illness.
Born March 13, 1939, in Lewisburg, she was the daughter of the late Harold Sr. and Ferne (Jackson) Todd. She was a former chief for the West Alexandria Emergency Squad, and was one of the founding members of the squad. She was a member of the First Brethren Church, West Alexandria.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Warren F. Hawley Sr.; children and their spouses, Terrie Bertsch and Hap of Lewisburg, Warren Steven Hawley and Leslie of Brookville, William Todd Hawley and Janelle of Kissimmee, Fla., April Parsons and Ken of Kokomo, Ind., Dee Ann Walters and Jackie of Charlotte, N.C.; Warren Franklin Hawley Jr. and Shannon of West Alexandria; 20 grandchildren; and brothers, Harold E. Todd Jr. and Brenda Charlene, Larry L. Todd and Jean Ann, all of New Lebanon.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, was in charge of arrangements.

Emery Henderson
Emery Henderson, 83, of New Paris, died Sunday, April 27, 1997, at his home.
Born Nov. 17, 1913, in Estill County, Ky., he was the son of John and Louanne (Hale) Henderson. He retired in 1978 after 33 years with Ralston Purina in Richmond, Ind., and had farmed in Preble County.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, June E. and Thomas Bruns of New Paris; a son and daughter-in-law, D. Bruce and Lisa Kay Henderson of Tygh Valley, Ore.; two sisters, Helen Moberly of Eaton and Beulah Van Winkle of Richmond, Ky.; grandchildren, Lisa A. (Steve) Bruns-Johnson of London, Ohio, T. Chris (Jennifer) Bruns of St. Charles, Mo., David (Carla) Henderson of Bowling Green, Ky.; and a great-granddaughter, Caitland Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louise (Johnson) Henderson, in 1991; brothers, Elmer in 1973, Oscar in 1975, and John M. Henderson in 1981; sisters, Betsy Whitesell in 1977, Pearl Sarver in 1986, Mary Ogg in 1990, and Jewell I. Maxel in 1996; a grandson, Matthew Henderson in 1973; and a great-granddaughter, Courtney Henderson.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris, with the Rev. John Bredwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, 109 W. Main St.

Ollie Newman
Ollie Newman, 82, formerly of Gratis, died Sunday, April 27, 1997, at Heartland of Eaton.
She was born in Jellico, Tenn., the daughter of Rodney and Kathryn (Meadows) Allen. Mrs. Newman was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gratis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1994.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Lowe of Leominster, Mass., Phillip Newman of West Alexandria and Walter Newman of Eaton; three daughters, Patricia Godbee of Colorado Springs, Colo., Pamela Snyder of Eaton and Wanda Bowman of Trotwood.
Also surviving are a stepson, Charles Newman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Kathryn Kirk of Lebanon; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Jessica Carpenter of Stanton, Ky., and Elsie Crow of Clay City, Ky.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the First Baptist Church in Gratis, with the Rev. Hearon Carmack officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, is in charge of arrangements.

Nola S. Sears
Nola Sue Sears, 43, of 1999 Ohio 503 North, West Alexandria, died Sunday, April 27, 1997, at Middletown Hospital.
She was born Dec. 26, 1953, in Missouri. She had been previously employed at Westview Acres Care Center in Eaton.
Survivors include her husband, Donnie Sears; two sons, Robert Ray Johnson of Sikeston, Mo., and Jimmy Sloan of Parma, Mo.; a daughter, Angela Rich of Eaton; a stepson, D.J. Sears of New Lebanon; a stepdaughter, Tammy Sears of West Alexandria; a grandson, Timothy Rich of Eaton; a granddaughter, Tricia Allen of West Alexandria; her mother, Helen Cantrell of Sikeston, Mo.; one brother, Noel Cantrell of Sikeston, Mo.; three sisters, Debbie Lynn Cantrell and Michelle Cantrell, both of Sikeston, Mo., and Ellie Capps of Vanduser, Mo.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 29, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, followed by burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.
Paul E. Davis
Paul Edwin Davis, 72, of 45 W. Dayton St., West Alexandria, died Sunday, April 27, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born April 8, 1925, in Eaton, he was the son of Wilbur J. and Martha F. (Brower) Davis. He retired in 1989 after 35 years at Westvaco in Eaton, and was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn E. Davis, in 1991; a son, Gary L. Davis in 1984; and a daughter, Carolyn E. Alspaugh in 1986.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Paula Boyd, Deborah and Daniel Meyers of West Alexandria; sons and daughter-in-law, Greg and Beverly Davis of Eaton, Rick Davis of Kansas and Doug Davis; stepdaughter, Linda Pegg Whittamore of Eaton; stepson, Larry Connell of Eaton.
Also surviving are a son-in-law, Jack Alspaugh of West Alexandria; sisters, Gertrude Garner of West Manchester, Barbara Clayman of Van Buren, Ind., Opal Sheard and Wanetta Melling, both of Eaton; brother, Richard Davis of Eaton; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Opal Buckner of West Alexandria.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, 3377 U.S. 35 East, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Raymond Rothwell officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria.

Blossom W. Miller
Blossom Walden Miller, 73, of North Main Street, Oxford, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, at Mercy Hospital in Hamilton.
Born Dec. 8, 1923, in Eaton, she was the daughter of Albert and Ella Walden. She was a 1941 graduate of Eaton High School and a member of French AME Chapel.
She married Arthur Miller of Oxford in 1942.
Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Richard (Jan) Miller, Anthony (Terry) Miller of Oxford, Adrian (Juanella) Miller of San Jose, Calif., Michael (Connie) Miller and Christopher (Patricia) Miller of Cincinnati; two sisters, Dolores Gregory and Thelma Smith; two brothers, Clevon Walden of Bellefontaine and Anthel Walden of Kirkland, Wash.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and special friends, Jim and Gertha Wilkins and Lillian Turner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Alberta Pannell, Gladys Gilmer and Aliceveda Hopkins; and four brothers, William, Frank, Duwayne and Curtis Walden.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 26, at Bethel AME Church, Oxford, with the Rev. Marquis Evans officiating. Burial was in Woodside Cemetery, Oxford. Smith Ogle Funeral Home, Oxford, was in charge of arrangements.
Hazel P. Corson
Hazel Pauline Corson, 56, of West Manchester, died Sunday, April 27, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after a long illness.
Born May 20, 1940, in Amma, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late George Noble and Ethel Cora (Payne) Armstead Sr. She earned an associate degree in social work from Clark State College in Springfield, and was a social worker at the Adult Day Care Center of Richmond, Inc. She attended West Manchester United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James R. Corson; two sons, Scott Keely of Cincinnati and Bradley Keely of Columbus; a stepson, Thomas Corson of Hillsboro, N.H.; a stepdaughter, Amy Cook of Charleston, S.C.; one sister; eight brothers; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Michael Chapel, West Manchester, with the Rev. A. Kenneth Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the funeral home.

Helen C. Woods
Helen C. Woods, 88, of 115 Vine St., Eaton, died Thursday morning, May 1, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 29, 1908, in Cincinnati, she was the daughter of Frank and Carrie (Kummerling) Wallborn. She was a member of Visitation Catholic Church of Eaton, St. Ann's Sodality and the Eaton Senior Citizens Club.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, William H. Woods Sr.; two sons, William H. Woods Jr. of Lewisburg and Brother Kenneth Woods of Sparta, N.C.; one daughter, Mary L. Moon of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Osborn, in 1973; and a son, Richard E. Woods, in 1967.
Funeral Mass was Monday, May 5, at Visitation Catholic Church, Eaton, with the Rev. Ralph Lawrence officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Dayton. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Angeline Knutson
Angeline Knutson, 80, of Franklin, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at her home.
Born March 26, 1917, in Bellefontaine, she was the daughter of Wilber and Edna (Morey) Winship. She was a 1934 graduate of Franklin High School, and studied at Miami University and Iowa State, receiving her doctorate in economics.
She taught school in Lockland and Georgetown from 1940-1942; was employed by the Census Bureau and Bureau of Motor Vehicles for eight years; worked as the Chautauqua correspondent for the Middletown Journal and Franklin Chronicle; was chief records keeper for the City of Franklin and secretary to City Manager Bernard Eicholz and food stamp vendor, retiring in 1981, then began working for Joint Emergency Medical Services until March 1997.
Mrs. Knutson was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Franklin, United Methodist Women, Our Mother's Tongue, 60 Plus or Minus Club and Otterbein Home Auxiliary. She was co-honorary parade marshal in 1994, and a voting poll worker for 35 years.
Her husband, Roy Knutson, whom she married in 1942, preceded her in death in July 1981.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Randi and David Lambert of Hillsdale, Mich., Marguerite and Dow Ulrich of West Alexandria; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Karen Knutson of Franklin; brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and JoAnn Winship of New York City; grandchildren, Jennifer Lambert of Atlanta, Ga., Beth Lambert of Farmington Hills, Mich., Sara, Lori and Roy Ulrich of West Alexandria.
Funeral services were Monday, May 5, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Dale Lykins officiating. Burial was in Woodhill Cemetery.

Maxine G. McMurray
Maxine G. McMurray, 70, of New Lebanon, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born May 10, 1926, in Scott County, Va., she was the daughter of Coy M. and Cora Susie McMurray. She retired in 1985 after 17 years with Dayton Flexible in Eaton, and had lived in New Lebanon since 1954.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit P. McMurray in 1983; a daughter, Charlotte Ann McMurray in 1960; brothers, Ralph McMurray in 1994 and Ivan McMurray in 1996; two infant sisters and two infant brothers.
Survivors include four brothers: Kyle McMurray of Mendota, Va., Jack McMurray and Wornie J. McMurray, both of Kingsport, Tenn., and Cecil McMurray of New Lebanon; a sister, Dorsey Wright of Hiltons, Va.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday, May 4, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Arvil Dean officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.
