Rosa M. Deal
Rosa Mae Nickell Deal, 53, of Verona died Sunday, July 13, 1997, of cancer.
She was the daughter of Gladys Cecil Nickell of Mize, Ky., and the late Everett Nickell. She was a retired teacher for the Preble County school system in Verona and Lewisburg, having taught for 29 years; and was a member of the Phillipsburg Missionary Church.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Angie Deal of Weirsdale, Fla., Daniel and Rebecca Deal of Vancleve, Ky.; a brother, Roger Nickell of Franklin; niece and nephew.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 15, at the Phillipsburg Missionary Church, with the Rev. Lowell Nihizer and the Rev. James Allen officiating. Burial will be in Hazel Green Cemetery, Hazel Green, Ky., on Wednesday, July 16. Herald & Steward & Halsey Funeral Home, West Liberty, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.
Rachel A. Flora
Rachel Ardell Deaton Shank Flora, 79, died at her home Tuesday, July 15, 1997.
Born July 10, 1918, in Preble County, she was the daughter of Newton and Emma Deaton. She was a 1927 Eaton High School graduate and earned her bachelor of science degree in elementary education at Manchester College in 1940. She taught two years full-time and substituted in Camden schools for several years. She was a member of the Camden Philomathean Club, Glenwood Grace Brethren Church and the Middletown Parkinson's Support Group.
She married Earl Shank in 1942 and owned and operated Shank's Variety Store in Camden until 1971.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970; and an infant daughter, Ester Jane, in 1944.
Survivors include her husband, Orville Flora, whom she married in 1971; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Emily Shank of Eaton; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Larry Colclasure of Middletown; and six stepchildren, Naomi Tapalman of Eaton, Gordon and Janet Flora of Camden, Carol and Jim Thoraldson of Mishawaka, Ind., Kenneth and Carol Flora of Franklin, Roger and Judy Flora of Placentia, Calif., and Charles and Sue Flora of Eaton.
Funeral services are pending at R.C. Nein and Sons-Limber Funeral Home, Camden.
Nelson O. Foster
Nelson Orville Foster, 66, of Eaton, formerly of Dayton, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at the VA Medical Center in Dayton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Foster.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Foster of Lucasville, Ohio; a sister, Rosemary Turner of London, Ky.; two brothers, James Foster of Lucasville and Richard Foster.
Private services were conducted at the convenience of the family. Tobias Funeral Home, Dayton, was in charge of arrangements.
Martha J. Knabe
Martha J. Knabe, 50, of Deland Drive, Eaton, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Hospice of Dayton after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 7, 1947, in Dayton, she graduated from Eaton High School in 1965 and from the Reid School of Nursing in Richmond,Ind., in 1967. She was a proof operator at Twin Valley Bank in West Alexandria, and a member of the Philadelphia Church of God in Dayton.
Survivors include her mother, Helen B. (Matix) Miller of Eaton; her birth mother, Margaret Coy of Dayton; sons and daughter-in-law, John A. and Katie Knabe of Kettering and Joshua A. Knabe of Eaton; her former husband, Lowell Knabe of Eaton; a grandson, Codie Knabe.
Also surviving are sisters, Janet E. Hancock of Richmond, Ind., Donna Guntle of New Lebanon and Charlene Snowden of Beavercreek; brothers, Ronald Coy of Bellefontaine and Raymond Coy of Clayton.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Paul Miller; her birth father, Upton Coy; a brother, Harold Coy; and a sister, Sharon McCracken.
Funeral services were Friday, July 18, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Smith officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Edna F. Fulton
Edna F. (Barclay) Fulton, 91, of Ohio 503, Lewisburg, died Thursday morning, July 17, 1997, at Heartland of Eaton after an extended illness. She had resided at Heartland since March 1994.
Born Sept. 21, 1905, at Carmichaels, Pa., she was the daughter of John P. and Ann (Stevenson) Barclay. She retired from Ewalt Stolger Dry Cleaning.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Delphene and Harvey Gray Sr. of Lewisburg; a sister, Ruth Long of Iowa; brother-in-law and wife, Bill and Cy Fulton of Belle Center, Ohio; three grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; a son, Charles Fulton, in 1948; and her husband, Donald A. Fulton, in 1981.
Graveside services were Saturday, July 19, at Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center. There was no public calling. Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Arno T. Springer Sr.
Arno T. Springer Sr., 83, of Swishers Mill Road, West Manchester, died Friday morning, July 18, 1997, at Heartland of Eaton after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 15, 1914, in Bradford (Miami County), Ohio, he was the son of Joseph and Cora Mae (Kuhnle) Springer. He worked for General Motors in Dayton for 33 years before retiring in January 1975. He was a member of Frigidaire Local 801.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary M. (Lux) Springer; six daughters, Lyonne Ward of Piqua, Betty Dysinger of Covington, Ohio, Jean Bousman of New Paris, Connie Springer, at home, Mary Fall of Milton, Fla., and Patty Steele of New Paris.
Also surviving are five sons, Arno Springer Jr. of Eldorado, Joe Springer of New Paris, Ernie Springer of Piqua, Dan Springer of Richmond, Ind., and John Springer of Centerville, Ind.; 24 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Zeno Springer, in 1988.
Funeral services were Monday, July 21, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. Dane Driver officiating. Burial was in Wares Chapel Cemetery near West Manchester.

John A. Jennens
John Allen Jennens, 81, of 201 Southeast Pkwy., Richmond, Ind., died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Heritage Regency after a lengthy illness.
Born March 14, 1916, in Muncie, Ind., he was the son of John Allen and Ethel (Thomas) Jennens, and had lived in Richmond since 1980, moving from Brookville, Ohio. He was a retired employee of Lau Brothers, Inc. (Phillips Industries) in Dayton, and was former treasurer of General Tire & Rubber Company in Wabash, Ind.
He was a 1933 graduate of Muncie Central High School and a 1984 graduate of Indiana University with a degree in public and environmental affairs.
Mr. Jennens was a member of West Richmond Friends Meeting in Richmond, Ind. He was treasurer of Indiana Yearly Meeting and a member of Friends United Meeting. He was a board member of the Society Preservation and Use of Resources, and was a trustee of Earlham College for 10 years.
He was a former board member of Friends Fellowship Community, had served on the Brookville town council, and had served as a board member of Brookhaven Nursing facility in Brookville.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen A. Blake Jennens, whom he married March 8, 1980; one son, John A. Jennens of Toledo; three daughters, Jane Silven of Dallas, Texas, Julie Schermerhorn of Madras, India., and Jill Blankenship of Las Vegas, Nev.
Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Roberta Gongwer of Acton, Mass., and Ruthanna Moore of Tipp City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a half brother, Davy L. Winkle of Columbus; a half sister, Berdina Grove of Parker City, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jewel Gibson.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 18, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Richmond, Ind., with Josh Brown and Tom Mullen officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery at Muncie, Ind. There was no public calling.

Eva M. Stephens
Eva M. Stephens, 93, of Lewisburg, died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at Hospice of Dayton after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1904, in Preble County, she was the daughter of the late John N. and Ida (Cummings) Pence, and had lived in Lewisburg most of her life. She attended Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewisburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh L. Stephens, in 1977; a son, Donald R. Stephens; two brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Wilma Stephens of Clayton; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Tony Sayre of Winchester, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Doris Stephens of Eaton; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were Tuesday, July 22, at Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton, with the Rev. Jon A. Thomas officiating. Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, was in charge of arrangements.

Beverly Davis
Beverly Davis, 48, of South Maple Street, Eaton, died unexpectedly Monday, July 21, 1997, at her home.
Born March 4, 1949, in Dalton, Ga., she was the daughter of Johnny and Geneva (Creech) Estes. She was a homemaker and a member of Full Gospel Temple in Eaton.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Goins, in 1983; her mother, Geneva Adams; her father, Johnny Estes; and a sister, Sue Tamplin, in 1996.
Survivors include her husband of 10 years, Gregg Davis; a daughter, Jamie L. Goins of Eaton; two brothers, Gary Estes of Carlisle and Larry Adams of Tacoma, Wash.; and two sisters, Jackie McDaniel of Lewisburg and Tammie Sanders of Gordon.
Funeral services were Friday, July 25, at Full Gospel Temple, Eaton, with the Rev. Raymond Rothwell officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.
