Lois A. Simpson
Lois Ann Simpson, 40, of 9166 Dorothy Drive, New Paris, died Monday evening, Sept. 22, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Jan. 12, 1957, at Ft. Riley, Kan., she was the daughter of Finley and Sudie (Laswell) Hensley, and was a 1975 graduate of Richmond High School. She was a supervisor at Landis Plastics in Richmond from 1987-1992, and for the past five years had worked at Neaton Auto Products in Eaton as a group leader.
Survivors include her husband of 14 years, David A. Simpson; two sons, Jarad Luke Simpson and Jesse Ian Simpson, both at home; one sister, Cathy Isaacs of Richmond, Ind.; one brother, Douglas Dean Hensley of South Bend, Ind.; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 26, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Reggie Osborne officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Emergency Squad or to the Preble County Heart Fund.
James Clark
James Clark, 70, of West Alexandria, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., following an extended illness. He was a former resident of Hamilton.
Born Dec. 24, 1926, in Butler County, he was the son of the late Frank and Laura (McWharter) Clark. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Occupied Japan.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva (Doyle) Clark, whom he married in 1946 in Nicholasville, Ky.; five children and their spouses, Jack Clark and wife Doris of Camden, Dianne Oliver and husband Paul of West Alexandria, Rick Clark and wife Kathy of Eaton, Brenda Black and husband Joe, Donna Henson and husband Fred, all of Camden; 19 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eliva Ivers and Goldie Baily, both of Hamilton, and Josephine Gross of Manchester, Ky.
Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 26, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Harold Paul Combs officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens.
Elizabeth H. Kelley
Elizabeth Helen Kelley, 88, of 7684 Gettysburg Road, New Paris, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at Golden Rule Nursing Center in Richmond, Ind., after an extended illness.
Born Sept. 3, 1909, in Liberty, Ind., she was the daughter of Alonzo and Martha (Mitchell) Rile. She had lived most of her life in Richmond after graduating from Miami University in 1933. She co-owned Specialty Record Shop in Richmond for 33 years with her husband, sister and brother-in-law. She was a staff writer for Senior Life magazine, and was known for her articles on birds and nature.
Mrs. Kelley was a member of numerous civic organizations and was active with the youth at Bethel AME Church and Townsend Community Center. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Church of New Paris and its Westminster Guild.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Harold B. Kelley; a daughter, Marilyn A. Dowdell of Yellow Springs; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by a son, Harold W. Kelley; a sister, Mary Ina Bass; and brother-in-law, Henry R. Bass.
A memorial service will be announced later. Patterson Funeral Home, Richmond, Ind., is in charge of arrangements.
George E. Peffly Jr.
George E. Peffly Jr., 85, formerly of 1624 Eaton-Lewisburg Road, Eaton, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton.
Born Aug. 22, 1912, in Germantown, he was the son of George Earl and Ida Mae (Hamilton) Peffly Sr. He had worked for NCR in Dayton for 17 years, was owner/operator of Congress lanes from 1953-1966, and retired from Auto Valve, Inc. in 1980 after 14 years.
Mr. Peffly. was a 50-year member of Bolivar Lodge #82 F&AM in Eaton; a 50-year member of Eaton Chapter #22; a 50-year member of Preble Council #135; a 50-year member Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton; a 50-year member of Eastern Star and past worthy patron of Gleaners Chapter #182 OES, and a member of Wolf Creek Rod and Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Viola W. (Loy) Peffly; two sons and daughter-in-law, Walter E. and Laveda Peffly Sr. and Robert E. Peffly, all of Eaton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Arthur and Forrest Peffly; and a grandson, Donald W. Peffly, in 1978.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 29, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with Pastor Gary Wood officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Cecille A. Alley
Cecille A. Alley, 94, of 400 S. Main St., Lewisburg, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 24, 1997, at Maria-Joseph Living Care Center in Dayton after an extended illness.
Born Sept. 15, 1903, in Hillsdale, Kan., she was the daughter of George G. and Lavina (Jenkins) Wilmore. She was a life member of the First United Church of Christ in Lewisburg, and a member of Rebekah Lodge in Eaton.
Her husband, Charles H. "Bill" Alley, died in November 1975.
Survivors include a son, Robert C. Alley of Lewisburg; a daughter, Betty Niswonger of Kettering; five grandchildren, Mary Lynn Zupan, Susan Alley, Ryan Alley, Amy Smith and Steven Niswonger; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 27, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. Michael McDonald officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Sandra Deaton
Sandra "Kay" Deaton, 57, of 115 Mattis Drive, Lewisburg, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 24, 1997, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton after an extended illness.
Born June 19, 1940, in Hancock County, Ohio, she was the daughter of Frank and Ellen (Oman) Zoll Jr. She had lived in Lewisburg since 1960, was one of the founding members of the Lewisburg Emergency Squad, and had worked for the Village of Lewisburg for over 20 years. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, and the Preble County and Hancock County 4-H clubs.
Survivors include her husband, Jim A. Deaton; four sons, Daniel Deaton of Wilmington, Eric Deaton of Dayton, James Deaton of Xenia and Donald Deaton of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; one daughter, Sandra "Sandy Jo' Miller of Lewisburg; two sisters, Roger Zoll of Kalkaska, Mich., and Bill Zoll of Rawson, Ohio; one sister, Judy Thomas of McLean, Va.; seven grandchildren, Joshua Magill, Cassie and Jonathan Conley, Bobby, Susan, Melissa and Benjamin Deaton.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 27, at Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Dave Justis and the Rev. Jon Thomas officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Glenna M. Moore
Glenna Mae Moore, 66, of 228 S. Maple St., Eaton, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, at her home after a two-year illness.
Born July 18, 1931, in Gratis, she was the daughter of the late Medford and Julie Cathrin (Flora) Waggoner, and had lived in Preble County most of her life. She was a member of Eaton Baptist Temple.
Survivors include her husband, William Elbert Moore; two daughters, Barbara Todd of Eaton and Linda Duncan of Dewitt, Mich.; three sons, William Moore, Jim Moore and Chris Moore, all of Eaton; eight grandchildren, Tammi Zupan, Misty Taylor, Holly Sandifer, Jennifer Moore, Rebecca Moore, Stephanie Moore, Brent Duncan and Steven Moore; four great-grandchildren, Derick Taylor, Dylan Taylor, Caleb Sandifer and Hannah Sandifer; two brothers, Roy Waggoner of Abiquiu, N.M., and Orville Waggoner of West Alexandria; nieces and nephews.
A brother, Everett Waggoner, is deceased.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 29, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Kathryn Longshore
Kathryn Longshore, 77, of 111 Leatherman Drive, Eaton, died Thursday morning, Sept. 25, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born April 7, 1920, in Ashland, Ky., she was the daughter of Worthy and Ethel (McPeek) Stewart. She was a member of the First Church of God of Germantown, where she also retired after 47 years as the church's custodian.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, John B. Longshore; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Harold Geeting of Eaton; grandchildren, Matthew Geeting of Dayton, Amy Howard and husband Fred of Camden; a great-granddaughter, Bree Anne Geeting of Eaton; aunt, Mae Williams of Middletown; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and cousins.
Graveside services were Sunday, Sept. 28, at Preble Memory Gardens, with Pastor Woodard officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.

Genevieve E. Thomas
Genevieve E. Thomas, 82, of Lewisburg, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997.
She retired from Ledex Corporation where she had worked as a machine operator, and worked for many years at the Blue Bird Bakery. She was a longtime member of Missionary Baptist Church in Lewisburg.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Edward Thomas; son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Maxine Walsh of Dayton; granddaughter and husband, Denise and Robert Lewis of Dayton; grandsons and spouses, Jesse and Diane Walsh of Dayton, Steve and Tammy Walsh of Lewisburg.
Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Bryan and Benjamin Lewis, Melissa, Nicole and Jessica Walsh, Justin and Jeremy Everett; a brother, Brady Russell of Arizona; niece and nephews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her son, Ellis Jack Walsh; and two sisters, Hazel Bennett and Alberta Parks.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 29, at Kindred Funeral Home, Englewood, with the Rev. George Pennington officiating. Burial was in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville.

Treva E. Sams
Treva Eileen (Head) Sams, 72, of Dayton, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 1997, following an extended illness.
She was retired from Inland Manufacturing, Vandalia plant.
Survivors include a son, Harry "Bo" Sams of West Milton; five daughters, Shirley Lynch of New Paris, Alice Blakemore of Michigan, Pamela Miller of Wisconsin, Beverly Layman of Miamisburg and Karla Bowman of Kentucky; three sisters, Jackie Harper and Edith Burrus, both of Dayton, and Anna Hall of Lima; a brother, Earl Head of California; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Golden N. and Margaret L. (Stoolman) Head; and a son, Roy Sams.
Graveside services were Monday, Sept. 29, at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville, with the Rev. Vernon Ware officiating. Kindred Funeral Home, Englewood, was in charge of arrangements.
Willard L. Mann
Willard L. Mann, 73, of New Paris, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.
Born Nov. 21, 1923, in New Paris, he was the son of George Leslie and Stella E. (Braughton) Mann. Mr. Mann was self-employed with Mann's General Hauling, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith P. (Burton) Mann, in 1963; and a brother, Charles Dean Mann, in 1985.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Edna P. (Veach) Mann; a sister, Marilyn J. (Mann) Oakley of Harlan, Ky.; aunts, Nancy Pennington of Aberdeen, Ohio, and Clara Patterson of New Lebanon; a sister-in-law, Josephine Mann of Richmond, Ind.; four nephews and one niece; and several cousins.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Guard officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.
